San Diego Cantina Event Wrap-Report

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

For the first time since Star Wars: the Old Republic began the Cantina Tour stops three years ago, the event in San Diego during Comic Con weekend was an all-day affair, featuring special guests and visitors that weren’t present even during their event at Celebration in April.Posted Jul 23, 2015 by Jean Prior

The Singleplayer MMO Cometh

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

Knights of the Fallen Empire signals a big change for SWTOR. This doesn’t mean that BioWare will be leaving out the “MMO bits” as it calls them, but it’s clear that things are changing. I still fully expect there to be new raids, flashpoints, and warzones, but these items appear to be sidelined in favor of a renewed focus on story.Posted Jul 1, 2015 by Michael Bitton

E3 2015 – Knights of the Fallen Empire Preview

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Preview

It’s the year of Star Wars with the new movie, Battlefront, and now SWTOR’s next big expansion: Knights of the Fallen Empire. Announced officially during EA’s E3 press conference, the expansion marks a new major story initiative for BioWare’s MMORPG, and we got to see just what that means in a behind-closed-doors presentation at EA’s press booth.Posted Jun 19, 2015 by William Murphy

Changing the Face of the Galaxy

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

On Monday at the Electronic Arts presser at E3, BioWare Austin announced that it was overturning the applecart that is Star Wars: the Old Republic. While we got a taste of the next iteration the previous Friday when a somewhat calculated leak of the new expansion's name and many of its details was hastily removed from the official website, sometimes it takes a trailer and a studio General Manager showing up to make it feel more real. Shadow of Revan - Short, Sweet, and to the Point

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

It's been four and a half months since BioWare Austin released the second full expansion of Star Wars: The Old Republic, entitled Shadow of Revan. At the launch and since that time, the level cap increased to 60, everyone's skill trees were replaced by Disciplines, they've added story encompassing three new planets, we now have a better means of managing our characters' outfits, and there have been a few new Flashpoints and Operations. A Missed Opportunity at Celebration

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

This past weekend saw the advent of Star Wars Celebration, the Star Wars version of BlizzCon or SOE Live, only bigger and let's be fair, better. Hosted in the same venue as BlizzCon in Anaheim, CA, SWCA featured more stormtroopers than you could shake a Jawa at, Star Wars celebrities ranging from Mark 'Luke Skywalker' Hamill to Anthony 'These aren't the droids we're looking for' Forrest. The (B)Austin Cantina Tour Stop, Including Spoilers

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

Fulfilling their promise to make up the canceled Boston Cantina Tour stop with a livestream on Twitch, BioWare Austin's team presented a rather meaty event that promises better, more fan-satisfying events in the future. In this one, jokingly referred to as the (B)Austin Cantina Tour, they went over many of the details of Game Update 3.2.Posted Apr 2, 2015 by Jean Prior

The Top 21 Locations in SWTOR

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

Not every article has to be an in-depth discussion of gameplay, offering commentary on press releases, or speculating what big reveal BioWare might choose to unleash at Star Wars Celebration next month.Posted Mar 17, 2015 by Jean Prior

The Outfit Designer Won't Save Crafting

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

In the recent Producer's Roadmap, Bruce Maclean dropped the news we'd known about for awhile, Star Wars: the Old Republic would have some kind of Outfit Designer. Coming in the spring with Game Update 3.2, it's supposed to be an 'awesome new feature'. Let's speculate as to how this new feature will work and how it will integrate with the existing crafting system.Posted Feb 26, 2015 by Jean Prior

Does It Actually Matter if SWTOR is Canon or Not?

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

Like the rest of the EU, Star Wars: the Old Republic was slapped with a 'Legends' imprint and sent on its merry way, and quite rightly the fans worried that it meant doom for the BioWare Austin MMO. Almost a year later, SWTOR's status has become an increasing question of debate as the new movies approach and the announcement that there will be a Cantina Tour stop at Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, CA.Posted Feb 12, 2015 by Jean Prior

Cantina Tour at PAX South: A New Hope

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

This past weekend, several members of BioWare Austin descended upon San Antonio for PAX South in the latest Star Wars: The Old Republic Cantina Tour stop. In it, guests were treated to the usual Q&A interspersed with prizes for correctly answering trivia questions. Unusually, the event was actually held on-site at PAX and required a badge although it wasn't a part of official programming.Posted Jan 29, 2015 by Jean Prior

But Everyone Else Was Doing It Too!

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

This week, Star Wars: the Old Republic put in a patch that had a fairly large number of tweaks to the game, mostly a lot of bugfixes and updates to various group activities such as changing which comms drop and rebalancing certain encounters. Sadly, however, much of these things were not the topic of many conversations about the game the past few weeks.Posted Jan 15, 2015 by Jean Prior

Three Things We Want from SWTOR in 2015

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

Star Wars: The Old Republic may never live up to the lofty expectations many had for it before it launched back in 2011, but the game seems pretty healthy despite all the initial setbacks. 2015 is a new year and with a new year comes new possibilities. Let’s take a look at some things we’d like to see in SWTOR this year.Posted Jan 7, 2015 by Michael Bitton

Was Forged Alliances Really Necessary?

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

In their prelude to their current expansion, Shadow of Revan, Star Wars: the Old Republic spent five months giving us new big-picture epic content via four Flashpoints collectively known as Forged Alliances. I spent an afternoon playing all four of them back to back on solo mode now that it's possible to do so and have been left with some questions that remind me of another big-name scifi franchise's first movie: Is this all that there was? Was there nothing more?Posted Jan 2, 2015 by Jean Prior

Shadow of Revan - Final Thoughts

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  General

On December 2nd, early purchasers of the Shadow of Revan expansion were granted access to two things: the new content that was being added for the $20 purchase of the expansion pack, and the new skills and streamlined combat systems. For people who have played SWTOR in the past and are just curious about the new discipline system, I’d recommend just logging in and trying it for yourself. Posted Dec 24, 2014 by Pete Schwab

Shadow of Revan RIP #2 - New Planets

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  General

Introducing new environments to explore is a staple of MMORPG expansion packs, and Shadow of Revan does not disappoint. After the prologue missions, the new content kicks off on the relatively obscure planet of Rishi, home to some interesting looking bird folk and a whole lot of pirate business. Bioware reached way back and dipped into the classic trilogy for the second planet (or rather moon), Yavin 4, recognizable to fans as the home base to the Rebellion in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.Posted Dec 16, 2014 by Pete Schwab

Shadow of Revan Review In Progress #1

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  General

Since the first official announcement of Star Wars: the Old Republic, BioWare Austin has not been shy about letting its audience know that story is one of the main pillars that they felt was missing from the MMORPG space. A bulk of their effort developing the game went into creating a richly-told, voice acted story that would ease the pain of the traditional level grind. Posted Dec 9, 2014 by Pete Schwab

The Value of 12X Class XP

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

With the launch of early access for Shadow of Revan on Tuesday, Star Wars: the Old Republic retired a subscriber perk that had allowed hordes of filthy casuals like myself to finally get through each class story and have a character at the now-previous level cap. Today's article is about that perk and whether it ultimately had value to the game. Posted Dec 4, 2014 by Jean Prior

The New Discipline System Primer

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Column

The latest expansion pack for Star Wars: The Old Republic has arrived, and with it the game is graduating to version number 3.0. One of the banner features of the upgrade, although not specifically tied to the expansion pack, is the new method for dealing with skills: Disciplines. Posted Dec 2, 2014 by Pete Schwab

Shadow of Revan - A Look at Flashpoints

Star Wars: The Old Republic -  Preview

With a little more than two weeks before Shadow of Revan launches, Bioware and publishing partner EA invited the press and select members of the SWTOR community to EA's Redwood Shores offices for a peek at the expansion. Though the event was in some ways a retread of previously released information, we were given some hands-on time with the new solo-able Flashpoints. Posted Nov 24, 2014 by Neilie Johnson
