Well, for instance, one of the elves has this sort of helmet/mask thing that makes him look like a super hero. The thing is, regardless on what other artists have depicted as clothing for middle earth characters, unless they met with tolkien and he said "YES, that is exactly the way it is", they are still artists giving their rendition of what the clothign looks like. I still think that the Turbine artsits could have done something that was on the realistic side but still seemed more plausible than some of the clown outfits or the super hero helmet. Regardless of what one thinks about the movies, the armor and weapons felt right to me. I would have preferred something more along those lines (no, I'm not saying copy the movies but "along those lines") than what Turbine has come up with. I actually don't like the new armor set that they have created. Though I haven't played in a while (still debating if I should resub for the next expansion) my character has what I consider his 'i'm an elven hero" gear but I also put him in starter lvl chaine and boots. Not flashy but it looks like regular chain that a warrior who is actually fighting would wear.
The armor really up till level 50 really looked good for some classes. The elf stuff was a horible joke. The dwarf stuff was over the top but you saw lots of men and elf wearing it. The we got moria and the cookie cutter outfit. The worst is the mini T1 armor it looks like a clown, Burgs got the best looking of the bunch. |

Seams they used the same color scheem that we had in moria. I call epic fail on the entire thing. Now that the NDA has been lifted I can say things a way buggy with the skirmage instances, I expect a rocky start on the 1st. If you loved moria then you will love som. If you hated moria well your getting more of the same. More gear gating, more LI grind, and more hampster wheel of death repeatables in lue of content. |

Well one sign that you bought money is if you received the sum from a low level character. Gold sellers will typically use a "trash account" to deliver the money. So if that account gets banned they don't care. Spammer Account A farms the gold and mails the money to Spammer Account B, who then in turn gives to Low Life Player C. So the can see if someone's 50 hero/villain gave a lowbie an inf gift or did some lvl 1 named dkdjfjfjk give it instead. If you see someone spamming in chat, global, general, trade, whatever you kick them immediately and suspend the account. Then they can have a supervisor decided whether or not to ban the account. Legit players aren't going to make a macro and spam the chat with "buygold.com cheap! gold 4 u" endlessly. The global block would help out the players a lot. We all know that ignoring gjkkdkdk does nothing as after spamming for 5 mins they simply delete that char, make another gibberish one and log back on. By globally ignoring them I'd never see any of their spams for as long as they use that account. NCSoft could check how many accounts get globally ignored to help see which ones are spammer accounts. If one got a lot of hits for global ignores, they can then check the logs and see why. If they find "buy inf cheap.com" ads, then POOF the account goes bye bye.
I agree they could do some stuff with filtering, looking for websites and stuff. They could also put a temp ban on those giving out websites as most of those are either selling gold or giving out bad websites with virus info. Helpfull websites could be posted in the forums. Also I am sure they could put some kind of tracking on cash. Like say you got a pig payout of gold is a dead givaway. They check your account against what you sold on the ah and eanred via questing/looting/vender junk. I think that banning folks who buy the gold as well as well it and I mean perma ban them not not of this temp ban stuff like lotro does. |

It is amazing to me how the gold farmers are able to exploit the system so freely. The gold farmers seam to almost get there with no problem and make tons of gold/plat/isk instantly. However I got also point out another well know thing and its not quite a gold farming thing. In several games there are certain guilds/kins. They have a website. They loot stuff put it up on their website. Then they promotie this website. You go to their website and use real world cash to buy looted items. Im not sure this is gold farming per say but it is just as bad. I know they got the ban hammer at lotro for this, and lotro tryies to fight this kind of thing buy using the BOA bind on aquire thing. However I see them do this all the time in EQ2 and sony has to know about it, its always comming accross the auction channels. I am sure it happens in other gams as well.

Well I am still on the cryptic bash bandwagon. I know folks who play in other games, none of them bought the campions online and none of them have been extended an invite to the beta program. Some these foks did beta's for LOTRO, EQ2, SWG and other games so they are use to doing these kind of things. Also just giving us a bridge to be social with is a cop out. With that being said im 50/50 in doing the pre order. Now for call of duty. I dont play that fps. i don't see how that is going to work in an mmo. I do agree calling it an MMO is the buz word nowdays. Third cash payouts to bring your friends. This is something new we have been seing all around. Direct TV 100 bucks to sign up a friend, I actually got 200 out of that little thing. There are other companies offerinc cash incentives. Will it work with games, It could I can see going out of my way to make a couple of extra hundred bucks for hitting all my friends up. Interesting article. |

I have to say I did nto think any move would be as bad as Search for spock, but that movie that J.J. Abrams did was the worst move in the entire history of Star Trek.

Actually I am surpized they have not yet went under. I was thinking buy now they would be bankrupts, but having a 9 mill loss. yea there in real trouble. That was 3rd quarter wait till you see the 4th. I played some in beta it was a lag fest. The other day Direct 2 drive gave it 2 me a 9.99. Unfortunaly I found out that was jus the game and it did not cover any time play. Well I played my 30 days and it is still worthless.

The ships look cool, however the player models really lack something or at least in this shot they just look so skinny and out of wack. Possibly a bad screenshot. The medical officer on the front lines wow the face is all out of wack, and what up with 2 andorians in star fleet uniforms, I did not know they were in the federation. Maybe 1 transfer officer but 2? Yea they need to do some tune up on the character faces, now like I said they done a good job on the ships. |

General: Community Managers: Where We Came From
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/17/09 2:51:24 PM
Interesting article. However I got to say you got to be carefull how you handle stuff. Like find out what the comunity is freeking out. Look into the complaints and try to figure it out. Far to many times I have seen companies. SOE, Turbine both have a record of locking threads, and yes making those threads disapear all together only to followed up with new threads going what gives that thread is locked. Deleting and locking threads is not the answer, trying to handle the crisis in a positive manor is the way to go, instead of having a formum omod drop on the thread and trying to change the subject. There is usally a really good reason why folks get bent out of shape, and that is usually when something goes way wrong. Especially when the threads has more than 50 pages that tells you its a hot topic right of the bat. I really think the forum mods need to monitor that kind of situation and talk to the devs and high ups before going wacko, and locking a thread out, when that happens it tells the player base hey look the dont give a rats rear end, and thing go down hill from there, and that is the reason why so many of us are cynical at best when it comes to certain game companies and not having any trust in what the do. All the lies and half truths add up after a while. |

Lord of the Rings Online: Siege of Mirkwood Preview
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/17/09 11:43:38 AM
***************** Skirmishes are Turbine's way of creating enjoyable, repeatable, randomized, and story-driven encounters for all different sizes of groups to enjoy. The entire system has been created from the ground up with several different notions in mind. They need to be relatively quick pieces of content to enjoy, they need to scale for all play-styles and party-sizes, and they need to be dynamic enough and rewarding enough to encourage multiple play-throughs. And as I quickly learned, all three criteria were handily met by the developers **************** While I sat hear and read this I almost fell out of my chair. While Turbine might think its fun. I got a feeling after about a month of more of the same hampster repeatable wheel of death will get old again and have folks clammoring for something else. Only time will tell. If you like repeatables then it will be great for you, however if you get board repeating stuff yea, leason not learned.

Fallen Earth: Does It Need Fast Travel?
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/17/09 7:08:40 AM
FE is a new game. I love a lot of it. I have debated the issue with my wife for some time for fast travel. As we both play FE. My wife wants fast travel, I don't know how it is going to work. The problem with fast travel in this game as is follows. We are post fall. Most of the cities are in total dismay. There are very few folks running around with cars, some buggies, and tons of motorcycles and about 70% use horses. Gas is scarace, and is hard to find. You look around the monarail system is destroyed. I just saw my first working interceptor looked just like the car from mad max day before yesterday. Got to hand it to the guy who spent the 15 days building the parts to make it. So how are you going to have fast travel? I think its kind of problematic. Do we need it. I am not sure its been a hotly debated thing. Oh and I am one of those running around clanless. Hard to find a clan for Lightbear/VIsta support.

General: SOE Working on 4th Unannounced Title
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/17/09 6:49:31 AM
Yes It probably will be total crap whatever it is they are making. I have not seen anything impresive from them in quite some time. I receintly went back to eq2 just to finish out what I had started years before. It was great for a while, running all the new content that had been added. It will be interesting to see what the give us in february. However all the stuff they have done in recent years. Pirates what a joke. The card games like LON, and stargate uggg, yea they made a lot of crud lately. This after destroying a couple of good games in the process. All I can say is it its for console, good for them as I will not be getting it.

First let me explain myself. Fallout 3 was a total steaming pile of junk. I installed that on my computer. Every time I tured around it would have erros with the game. The game contunually crashed. Even with the updated stuff that I downloaded through the patches. I hated the combat in this game especially the part added to zoom in on and focus on. The game was such a steaming pile of junk I never got out of the main megaton city where your suposed to put the detonator on the bomb. I don't know how you would say it resurected Fallout 1 or 2. Too bad that fallout 2 dont run on dx10 or I would still play it from time to time. Most fallout folks I know actually hatted Fallout 3. Gosh knows I did, it was buggy and probably one of the worst games I ever spent money on. To bad direct to drive does not give refunds. Lets just say I will never ever buy anything else made by them ever.
