I really dont get all these card game but hey lon cost me nothing and once a month i get a free pack.  I open it 9% of the time i get squat but there have been times i gotten a loot card.

Im just saying I don't pay for them decks they are expensive.

I loved this statement

After all, one day, that special MMO is going to appear, on sparkly clouds and pulled by six unicorns, and offer to sweep me away to a land where everything is just as it should be. "

One can only hope the past couple of years we thought we were getting something nice only to find the brown paper bag full of it ablaze on our doorstep.

I voted no for the simple fact that the last couple of games they have made are pure steaming piles of you know what.

Sorry from now on if Cryptic name is attached I dont even give it a second thought.

All I can say is I already voted with my wallet,  and that was with a resounding no. I was glad I had a free open beta key and I did not have to use any real money to get a look at this pour excuse of a game.

All I can sugest at this point is to cut your losses and run, that is if you are really unhappy.  Dont give them any more of your cash.  If enough folks start doing that, Cryptic will have to change.  Untill then they will keep giving you the same old stuff, as when you pay them you are saying im good with this.

Supply and demand.  I don't demand it, there is a supply and its going to stay on the store shelf as far as I care.

The only design that may be over used but is not really done properly is the tank n Spank.

This is because 99% of the games are solo, how can you say a game utilizes a certain aspect if it is just solo players running around? There is ONLY one game right now that promotes the TRUE Tank and spank theory and that is FFXI.All the other games only call for it in their cheap instance designs. One thing about FFXI however is the tank n spank is not locked in,to the creative players ,the game does allow for various combination of game play,it is just best suited to using the Tank N spank, because it utilizes a SUPPORT role design, rather than a ME ME design.

Also what FFXI does different is the go fetch 10 rats design of questing. It is all done utilizing a favor system,or a rank system is a better term. You do not go fetch 10 rats for some ridiculously lame XP reward, nor will you get 10 shiny gold pieces,so although the game might ask the same of you it is not for the same reasons.

I have no problem with Fantasy, because that is what it is,you cannot go around expecting to change definitions of genres. It would be like saying i am tired of hockey sticks in Hockey,or tired of baseball bats in Baseball,it is what it is and should not be changed.

Levels

Yes this part has been done the same in all games,i have no problem with levels IF they were treated like AGE,witch is actually the way it is designed but not implemented.Levels were meant to be a measuring stick on age,but players do not age, they just get new spells and abilities, this again is done poorly, players should always EARN abilities.I mean when you learn something in real life, you don't learn it just because you had a new birthday lol, otherwise we would all be Einstein's at the age of 40.SO yes i agree levels is way over used and improperly, and guess what?Square is going to remove them from FFXIV,so again Square shows they think a little smarter or outside the bubble than the rest of the SOE followers.

It is not only SOE that uses level, lets not forget wow, STO, CO, COX, any Tubine game.  Just saying SOE is just but one of many almost the entire game comunity uses levels.

A good list

I was laughing so hard about the 10 rats.  I mean most MMO's have kill x number of this or that, and its a standard in all of them.

The fedx one I have to agree with.  I would love to use this example of how silly it can get.  While I read the part they use it to send you to the next location sometimes that is not the fact.   In SOM in lotro there is a quest that you get when you get to ost galath the next area past haunted in.  This quest is timed and requris you to go back to the haunted in,  now this is just the area that yo completed and moved on from, and they send you backwards,  Im like wtf should they not send you to from the haunted in to ost galath.   There were 2 quests already at haunted inthat send you to the locations that you need to go next, and then they send you back.  Lotro excells at the backwards fedx delivery system.

Yes I thought they were already working on another MMO.

I will say this, loud and clear I will not play it, they dont get any more chances at my money.

I wonder about 1 Million.  LOTRO has claim to 4 Million, however you would be lucky if 500K were playing.

Now I know tons of folks signed up on the furoms hoping to get a beta invite.  I don't believe for one moment there are 1 million folks playing STO.  I played open beta and 1 Mill would have shut that puppy down.  Heck you could barly get 300 in sol systemberfore it would crash and drop dead.

So I have to ask how many of these forum accounts were folks trying to get in on beta. I know I have over 50 different ones going to 10 different email accounts, and the only way I got in was through ten ton hammer giving out free keys.

So yes I dont belive those numbres.

Oh and I got to wonder how many of these went lifetime, how many are actually going to stay after the first 30 days of free game play.

I think were a bit to fast declaring victory.

For the OP I agree with what you have said.  That is why after I actually gave the beta 5 days before I gave up.  Im going to let those who love it play, however I am not.

Yea I created 52 forum accounts trying to get a beta invite as well as other folks did too.  So those numbers are way so not real.

Now if cryptic wants to give us some numbers how about how many paying subs they have, then ill shut my mounth.

Ill give you the main reasons why I got turned off on this game.

(1) Highly Instanced as it way to many

(2) Ground combat not fun

(3) Space combat remind me of pirates of the burning sea

(4) Half the lore already referes to the abrams universe, there was a voice over about romulus being destroyed and nero.

(5) Money grab,  50 buck for game 15 bucks a month and more  money to unlock character slots

(6) It does not feal like star trek at all

So that is why I voted no.

Yea it is sad when the dev's dont even play their own games. See this time and again, and they wonder why folks flame them when they give us something totaly useless.

I got to agree with that part.

However I find it funny when the show up after that and then try to convince all of us that were having a great time and actually get into heated arugments with the player base not only on their own forums but other web sites.

I played the beta it and  I denstalled it from my comp.  I was going to wait 6 months then check it back out to see if it got any better.  However now that I see it is a cash crab just like the previous title, there is no way  that Cryptic will ever get my business.

I just dont understand the entire cash shop unlock of klingons thing then showing us ground footage of kligons.  Hmmm. I was thinking now this game has been released it would kind of calm down.  Looks like lots of STO will still be in my inbox for a while.

well several of the companines I have been interviewing at have asked to you have a facebook account,  if you say yes your fail the interview and are escorted out.

Rofl, I am not surpised and all the folks are going omg.  tried to warn you guys rofl.   Pay a sub and then get nickle and dimed to death like its a f2p game.  Totaly epic fail.

Well, Cryptic is digging their own grave during headstart already. The server crashed.... YET again. And they just keep copy pasting the same unexpected downtime messages day in day out, since the headstart began.

This is going to be funny when the real flood of players start entering the game coming Tuesday (for US) and friday (EU).

A couple more 4+ hour unexpected downtimes and most headstart people won't even be picking up their gameboxes.

Really name one game besides lotro that didn't have this kind of issue.

More then enough.

Fact is, that people seem to have the memory of a goldfish. And forgotten that Cryptic launched another MMO not so long ago and went through the EXACT same crap as STO is going through right now.

One would think they would have build up some experience from that debacle 6 months ago and try not to EXACTLY repeat it again.

Just saying.

Rofl,  Hello It is Cryptic and they used the same engine from the other game.  What would lead you to belive they could turn out a good game after that and bassed on the same engine.  All I got to say is they have no idea of what quality is.  And the same old fan boys go ohh give me more,  they deserve what they get now.

6) I agree on many fronts regarding SWG.  I was one of the few fans that liked the changes and saw the possibilities that it could have brought, including a lot of new players that could have made the game more enjoyable.  But as stated, the fanbois lost their damn minds and made new players even afraid to try the game.  Don't really think the companies messed the game up, they truthfully made it better.  The bad apples destroyed this one.

Anyways...guess that's enough said after my few years of silence in the gaming world....flame on guys

LOLOL in red, are you serious?  I loved pre-cu, I enjoyed post cu, but to say that they "made it better" with the NGE  is beyond hilarious.  They made a different game and then wondered what happened when the player base didn't want a "new"  game.  Its that simple, no amount of negative players kills a game.  A company that spit in the face of what their customers wanted and released a half baked revamp of core mechanics killed the game. Sorry to break it to you but you are in the ultra minority considering that basicially none of the players that played at that time much liked it and it didn't draw any new customers for the most part I guess that's all the proof I really need now isn't it.

Yeah to funny how it is the players fault for what happened to an mmo.

Lets see, people didn't flock to the original game, because it was broken, buggy and unfinished.

People didn't flock to the nge, because it was ridiculously broken, buggy and unfinished to the point it made the original game look like it was a polished masterpiece.  The conclusion is that somehow it is the players fault for not retaining or attract new players?   Somehow new and old players are supposed to be excited about 2 years of player and developer work being thrown out the window without any notice and jump on the "it has potential" bandwagon?   New players are supposed to be excited to give money to a company that just told their current players to piss off?

So soe completely tries to revamp an entire mmo in 2-3 months, delivers one of the worst releases in mmo history, intentionally alienates their customerbase in the process by lying about the changes and you wonder why swg had problems rebuilding a player base?

I wonder just how bad a game has to be or what massive blunders a company has to inflict on a game in order to be responsible for its own outcome and not some angry players.

The lies, thats exactly it.  If you all would remember we got mustifar about a month before the NGE.  One day somebody that would be me was cruizing around Amazon and found the Guide to Star Wars Galaxies NGE  for the Console.  it was posted on the SWG forums, and i got a 3 day ban for that after the firestorm erupted.  SOE was like there is not going to be a console version.  Lots of finger pointing went on, and we even had one Dev if anybody would care to remember who stood up for us. Care to take a guess.  Tiggs.   Long storry short for 2 months SOE lied and told us nothing was happening then all the sudden about month from the NGE they told us it was comming.  NGE was what it was; as nothing existed from the old game except your characters. 80% of the player base quit, folks were so mad that had just got mustifar expansion now to have it all nerfed down folks actually got their money back.   And then somebody says it made the game better, rofl at that.  IF the NGE was so great then why have they had to merge servers, and why is it a ghost town.  I know it is I play eq2 and I can send cross server tells across games even.  So all my friends are on my list and guess what, nobody is playing with the exception of 2 of them.

Rofl NGE made the game better,  I laughed so hard i had to clean my keyboard.

After playing in the head start a few hours I must say I am torn. I am also one of those Trekkies that can speak Klingon and knows the difference between a Hydran and Kzinti. I am old school computer trekking as well, back through all the mess and ending with Star Fleet Command.

STO so far has been interesting, the FPS element is okay but I am not a big FPS fan so I might not judge it fair. The starship element has me torn. It is more tactically oriented than the other star ship mmo scifi offering. This to me spices up the combat. However I am left feeling more like I am flying a fighter than a starship.

STO is trying to walk the middle ground between the rich tactical combat of SFC and the orbit and click combat of EVE.

At the end of the day this is a fun title and gets you your trekkie fix however I do not see it being listed as a great title. EVE will not lose a lot of players because STO does not appeal to the same group, the lack of sandbox in STO saves EVE. The PvP to me in STO sounds better however, I hate blob fights, perferring the quick dance of small fleets.

At the end of the day the success or failure of this MMO will be known in about 6 months. Cryptic has a title on it's hands that wins in some small degree without any game. You say Star Trek and you draw in a nice little group. However they need to put some serious support in for a real win.

The game has a number of graphical glitches that are just lazy quality control. The server problems are to be expected so we get to see how they handle this. The game play has a bit more of an arcade feel than I feel most trekkies will like so it will be interesting to see how they rework that or if they do.

Right now it is a fun change of pace but to make it a down the road MMO they are gonna have to beef it up.

On a side note what happened to my favorite race the Gorn?

The gorn are there I found them in beta, on a mission in the arcanues cluster  they are poorly done they look like crud,  not very well thought out, same with klingons they just dont look right

this thing right now is as broken as vanguard was at launch..........

Actually i thought it was worse off than vangaurd at launch.  Needless to say I deinstalled it from my system,  maybe if they are still up and running this time next year after they get the major kinks out of it I might try to play it.  I have no interest in paying to beta a game that was rushed and dont work well.
