Well some instancing is good espicially for raids and such. After all if you had 4 raid groups show up to kill the same boss you could have an issue.

However were do you draw the line on instancing, as it limits the number of folks wo are in a group.

MMORPG = Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Gaming.  So the more instances you have the less massive it is.

I think games like DDO and STO are not MMORPG's they are co-opts basicly RPG with many folks playing in small groups, nothing massive about it.  Turbine has taken it one step futher with LOTRO and the skimish system,  turning lotro the game into tons of small instances,  something turbine loves is isntances we say that with the original ddo and now with the new ddo and now lotro is headed that way,  and that is why lotro has lost it's appeal for me.

To much instancing is bad and to me it ruins the game, and wll there goes the online experiance.

I have to ask this question, why pay a fee for an online game and not have the social abilities.  I mean I could buy dragons age or something and play it on the xbox and not pay a monthly fee if I wanted to solo everything.

I guess it is up to everybody to figure out how much interaction they need,  if your just going to solo everything out then why pay a fee?

WE had a perfect example of this noon/noobie thing in lotro

This guy got to end game content and had no idea of what his class does. Something is bad wrong when you burn through all the content and you have no clue of what your doing other than mashing buttons, and then post going whats dps and agro.

It is one thing to ask noob questions, its another thing to go gee wiz i have no clue what I am doing and I don't get it at the end game. This is how a lot of mmo games have failed, and just turned folks into button pushing robots who don't take the time to learn their class.

http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=317809

yea 2011 soebody need a foot up their rear end.   is been 2 years and still nothing.  I know they want to make a great game but come on weekly updates on somethng still a year out,  all that does it make it worse.

All I can hope for is its not even remotely similar to the NGE.

I would still love a pre cu server.

I got to say interesting read.  I don't mind noobs real ones.  They got a lot of questions sometime I try to help them.  What bothers me is when you get somebody who rolls an alt then starts acting like a noob trying to get help, now that can be bad. You can usually tell these as sometimes they give it away.  I usually ask questsion to these noobs to see how noobish they are.  The kind of stuff I ask is about prior games that way I can talk to them in a game sence about how to do things as I have played many of an mmo over the years.

Tthank god for eq2players.com I can usually find them easy that way and make sure they dont have access to the bank vault. As most folks who try to act like a noob just want your goodies, its been problem in eq2 for a while, somebody rolls a toon then hits someboies guild bank.  Im sure it happens in other games.

Well anways I got to kive you kudos for the picture of the cat attacking the noob duck we all got a great laugh out of it over here at my house.  The other pictures were cool to.

I never heard of mortal online until I saw the post and wanted to read up on it.

First let me say this, from a bussiness perspective you never attack the customer.  You may get into an argument, but you never ever continue to attack them.  We just had some training classes at work in how to handle angry customers in your customer service position.  The one thing they tell you to is listen and try to calm them down.

The kind of actions I saw would have gotten you terminated for harrasment, and putting the company in a bad light.  Just ask anybody who is at a call center, or help desk. Or anybody who does customer service.

All I saw was a person who let his anger get out of control, and then decided to become vengefull,  you cant do that and work for a company, even if it your not being paid.

I would recomend him taking some of the workplace violence, harrastment, and communication classes that my company has mandated before he takes another job so he can see where he went wrong.

I just dont see it, folks moving the price up to 24.95,  Not in this economy

I almost spit mountain dew across my screen when I read the part about the NGE being a limited sucess.  ROFL

OK here it is in a nutshell.  Back in the day we got real content, lots of stuff to do.  It took months to level, and even more months to gear your toon out. Then we had lots of end game stuff that was fun to do.

The NGE was the start of the end.  At that point all the game companies were like "Hey folks will buy crud lets give it to them cheaper"  And guess what they do.  So as long as folks settle for the cheep way out so the companies will give it to them.

Take a look at LOTRO, good case study here.  We had a game that was diverse.  This game was great, until somebody in marketing thought hey we need to come up with all this raid instances and rad armor and stuff.  We got Moria, it was a dismall abiss.  Now we got SOM a ver small xpac.  After that really small book update with even more instances.  Once again Turbine taking the cheap way out, going down the track of re-usable instances. Oh and I will say this folks will call me crazy, as it was such a big hit for the ADHD crowd there going to continue this route so there goes a lot of open world content.

I have to note that yes the gaming comunity has changed. A lot of us are getting older. Im 45 now.  A lot of the younger crowd clammers for the quick got to have it fix, and the game companies give it to them.  Level to max level in under a month, then they get board.   The only problem is the make it so easy it makes the game booring.

I don't blame the devs, the real villian is the bean counter, with his hand up the devs rear end so far they lack any real creativity.

I was talking with my 2nd in command the other night about the fact I had noticed he had not bough the som xpac nor had he logged in since october.  He said "I am really discontent, and I don't seam to find any mmo experiance out there to be deap and meaningfull gameplay, gone are the days of relaxing after I get home, now its all rush rush rush."  he then said he was playing dragon something as it was more fun than logging in.

All I can say is the op is very much dead on about several things, and all these had been pointed out way so many times on these very forums

(1) Lack of Content  - Very True

(2) Combat well yes that too

(3) Crafting if you can call it that

(4) server stability  he he he omg, we all knew about this when oben beta went live.

I just find it somewhat funny now were seing all the same stuff over again that had been pounded to death. To bad I don't have a dead horse picture to place somewhere.

As for the good, well customization of ships and character yes,  but that is not content.

Lets wait 6 months and see what the game looks like at that point

I thought the /music thing was awesome.  It almost alone kept me playing even though I didnt think much of the game.  Has there been any updates to it?

NO the music system is still the same as it was.  Another thing just like housing that turbine did and forgot.

You can always go to fatlute.com and download songs but that is good as it gets.

wel the picture alone is enough for me to go no thank you

Sorry but i smell a photo shop on this.  I just pulled up my station account and nothing new in it, with the exception of 30 days free swg time.

So I am calling bogus photoshop.

All I see in MMO is EQ, EQ2, Pirates, planetside, SWG, Matrix, and Vangaurd.  I checked the strategy card games its not their either.

The above is MY screenshot with MY desktop visible in the background - here's a supporting thread (where I heard about it) with a different screen (obviously different because it was posted well before mine and mine shows my desktop even):

http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/268887/SOE-Station-Access-lists-CLONE-WARS-New-MMO-rumor-fuel.html

There were more than enough people who thought like you did, and I would too...that's why "I" took my own screenshot ;)

Hmm well I cant recreate it, So yes I guess they took it down.  This reminds me of the find of the NGE being sold for console that time on Amazon.  For 2 weeks SOE said not true, then we got the news it was comming but not for the console.   So we might get something ineteresing.

Honestly I am surpirsed that this would happen, Lucas arts is not to happy with SOE otherwise bioware would not have gotten swtor.

I still rofl at the 1 million subs that sto got,  he he.  They have a single shard server and if you think they can support 1 million folks signing in i would love to see them try.

First I will say the only thing that can kill blizzard and wow is blizzard themselves.  We have seen other games take shots at blizzard in hopes to nail them between the eyes. LOTRO tried and they are getting wow accounts but they did not kil wow, AOC, Warhammer and others have tried.  I have yet to see anybody yet with the kill shot and hear the words double humilation back from my counter strike days.

I am looking forord to the release of of STwor,  as most folks are.  I loved SWG but it was totaly blown by the NGE.  If anything it will finally put the nail in the coffin for SWG.

However I don't think it will kill wow.  The reason its not that type of mmo it is a totaly seperate type of lore. Those folks love their elves and what not, and as far as I know there will not be any elves in STwor.

I could be wrong but I really dont see blizzard getting nailed by bioware or for that matter anybody else.

wow was nailler a long while back in asia lol!since blizzard isnt in their market its not said.but the fact is there is at least 10 mmo that have higher sub then wow in asia.if they brag about its may be in BAIDU,because asian couldnt care less about the rest of the world they got 1300 million people to chat with just in china lol!i sure wouldnt bother a reply to anybody outside of china.the only time we get a sneakpeak of what is really going on in china is when chinajoy is going on

and chinajoy is way bigger then e3 ,they are an inexperienced team (chinajoy)but they are way bigger then everythin there is on the planet!so for  a population of 1300 million do you honestly think they notice they are 20 million in their favorite mmo

hell they meet one million people just walking in the street they dont notice that at all it would take an american firm to go to asia and check the total number of player.and i bet the asian would say why you need to know .mmo maker would say we know how much we made is that good for you researcher!i bet if you ask most asian mmo maker most probably dont know how many gamer they service ,and why would they care the way they think is this, the more player there is the more will end up paying and their revenue prove them right!

Yea wow got kicked out of china, big deal.  They still have something ofbig market in the us, and no other game even comes close. I don't know much about the aisian market other than they make a lot of really odd games.

There are several major problems with housing.

(1) Turbine gave up on it.  aside from the patch notes that they are fixing 1 statute size, it has become a totaly ignored game mechinic.

(2) New houseing neighborhoods do not open up unless one becomes full.  This can take a while as 80% of them are full of forclosed houses, a state of how the game is going.

(3) They should look at how EQ2 did housing,  one house with multiple instances for each toon that way you dont need all the extra neighborhoods.  The way it is currently is just pathatic.

(4) I agree with the op take the houses away, stash the stuff in the players escrow account and refund the players money.

(5) give me the option to sell my house,  and get my cash back before I move or decide to fold my kin.

Wow it would have to be Interplay the made the original.

I have to agree with the OP as in how Fallout 3 was a huge disapointment.

I have been in lotro since beta A2 and up.

I t has always been lackluster.

Content wise it was ok, as we got regular updates. However those have slowed way down.  Even the last xpac if you can call it that was small in size.  I have been on bullroares test center today and even the new book update, well is very sad as well.

The changed the leveling to make it easier, however the 35-50 range has always been hit somewhat hard even with the addition of  Forchell.  Once your past 50 leveling goes super fast.  Once you hit 60 you can make it to 65 in under 24 hours if your hard core.

The problems with this game are lack fun end game content, that has been replace by the how many times you can run a skirmish in a day.  It is sad but with each advancing book lotro looks more and more like DND as far as adding more instances.

Just my 2 cnets worth, and its just my thoughts, I speak for nobody else.

They are currenly reworking the SoA zones, which is good. They did already improve Ered Luin, Breeland and the Lone Lands to a certain extent.

Anyway, Wife and I are currently playing our low-level hobbits in the North Downs on Laurelin (not even the busiest European server) and there are plenty of people around freeing Dori, defending Trestlebridge and fighting Falconers.

Turbine mainly seems to need to recruit more players for the American servers, IMO.

Actually you should read orions blog, hes no longer working on revamps.  He said the revamps to north downs has beenn put on hold.  His original blog said he had been moved to another project. however the blogs been updated a few times. I just now says that he cant discuss why  hes not working on the north downs revamp.

So no more revamps, and I suspect they are short a dev now after 5 of my questions asking what happened has been pruned.

This is the link to Orions blog

http://my.lotro.com/orion/2010/01/21/and-nowfor-the-bad-news/

And if the link does not work you can go to my.lotro.com and its right there on the first page.  And for those without acess to that here is the cut and paste.

(qouted from oriond blog)

Bad news always sucks. We never like hearing it and we never like having to give it to people. Yet, sometimes, we have to bite the bullet and parse out the information as we know it and let the stinging barbs be unleashed upon our person.

I am not going to the North Downs. I have completed the revisions on Epic Volume I, but my revision work on the North Downs is now on indefinite hold.

Unfortunately, this is another reason why we should not be so free with the information that we provide.

I will be posting another blog soon explaining the kinda good news that you may or may not be looking for with relation to the changes coming with the Volume I revision.
