About what I thought, and wanted from the MMO. Simply a casual place where I can show my leet gear, challenge others to see if I'm better, chat, duel, or team up with some buds. With the way Torchlight plays, I don't see this as an issue, rather a good way to do it.

Just an update, still looking for one more to fill the spot.

I'd describe Torchlight as: Fate with a cross between Diablo1 and Diablo3 (not D2).

The overall feel of gameplay is very much the same as in Fate, not as deverse in character developement or creation but still just as enjoyable. It has everything Fate had, just revised and simplified versions of those features. They also added the ability of spells for your pet.

It is like D1 with the scenario. There's a town, with a vast dungeon below, and an ever growing unknown evil force to defeat. BUT I will simply say the game does not end there, there are still more things/places to explore before you retire your character.

If you do some research on D3 and what new features it will offer, you will see a lot of those things present in Torchlight (but done much better in my opinion). Things like interactive environments, and monsters able to crawl out of anywhere and everything.

D3 currently only offers 3 classes as well with more to release in an expansion at a later date, but without the ability to apply your own stats as you level up (apart from skills), making replayability very questionable for us Diablo veterans. This is something Torchlight addresses and does not apply, they allow complete customization of any spells/stats.

Although one thing Torchlight is lacking, is that it does not seem to fully support the randomly generated dungeon aspect. Which is a shame since they did it so well with Fate. There are of course some random dungeons in the game, just none the main places which pertain to the story. The only apparent random generations come from phase portals, a quest giver in town, and dungeon scrolls bought from an npc merchant.

Many of the floors of the main dungeon seem to be random too, as I have rolled a second toon to check it out and found that it is different.

I find TL very, very fun. It runs smooth, there's lots of gear. Unlike FATE the UI doesn't make me want to take my eyes out with a spoon. The pet is a nice addition as it allows you to quickly sell stuff while staying in the dungeon and acts as another bag.

It's not trying to be anything special, and there's no reason to think it is. It does what it sets out to well though, it is a solid dungeon crawler that really does have a similar feel to Diablo.

I don't see how it's simplified though, I'd like to know where your seeing that. Because it's just "One Dungeon"? Because to be fair, the one dungeon has a multitude of floors (40+ I believe) and it changes environment as you go down, as well as increasing difficulty and there becomes more side passages and portals.

I wouldn't say this is for kids, it still requires intelligence in piecing your gear together and it really is a bloody game.

Console players have no problem with this? Maybe pc players feel a little to entitled? I don't see any difference between my consoles games with P2P and my PC games with its own server.

Dedicated servers are how PC FPS games run. We are not console gamers, we do not use consoles. Of course there's a difference.

Dedicated servers allow more fair play, there's no host with 0 ping. They allow MUCH larger amounts of players (ARMA 2 can host 100+ player games, and quite smoothly). There is a big difference.

When you develop on the PC platform, there are things you almost have to include. One of these are dedicated servers for FPS games. Without them, you are almost cheating the PC gamers, and many will not buy your game.

I also play in a clan that plays for fun, they were all pretty hyped about MW2, they have all now cancelled their pre-orders.

In Fallout 3 I got bored once and decided to kill absolutely everyone in Megaton. I was level 3-5 or so, had no cheats on, no good gear. Just a hunting rifle and basic armor. I tried anyway.... and succeeded, without dieing. Got quite a bit of neat stuff from there too :P

In GTA: San Andreas I find it endless fun to jack trains and derail them :D

And in MMOs with uber killing guards, I find it fun to agro absolutely everything in the area, and then watch the guards slaughter the poor things.

Nice idea:)

Why thank you. I thought it was a good way to save 25% on Borderlands, and you have 4 people you can play with too :P

I don't want to deal with PayPal, otherwise, I would have joined in.

Is there another way to get the money to me? Using PayPal isn't that big of a deal, it's just the only way I know of to get the money from point A to B quickly over really long distances. I mean, unless you're sending a money order through Western Union or something of the such. Like I said, PayPal doesn't matter, if you have another idea of how to get the money to me, that'd be great.

Steam offers a Borderlands 4-pack for $150 dollars, which is only $37.50 a copy when split four ways. I would like to buy this and currently have 3 people for it already (myself and two friends). I am looking for a fourth party to join in with us. Here's how it all works:

1. I will add you as a friend on Steam

2. Money from all 3 parties will be sent, via PayPal, to me (if I do not receive the $37.50 from all 3 parties those that sent their money will have their money sent back, this should not happen as I double and triple check each participant to make sure that they will pay)

3. After I receive all of the payments, and will have my own in there, I will use the money straight from PayPal (no transferring it anywhere) to purchase the 4-pack off of Steam.

4. Once purchased each participant will be gifted their copy of Borderlands.

5. Then we all get to kill things and loot 5 bazillion guns :)

You may have a few questions, such as:

Q: How do I know you won't rip me off?

A: To my knowledge PayPal protects you from this.

Q: When will this happen?

A: Hopefully sometime next week, when everyone has the money to make their payment.

Q: How long will the entire process take, from me giving the money to getting the game?

A: Probably about 5 or 10 minutes.

If you have any more questions please post here, PM Me, or email me at nickelpat@live.com . If you would like to be the fourth party, please email me at nickelpat@live.com .

Thank You Very Much,

 - Eric

I was going to say the main city from Champions, but then I thought that really was more of a map, or a zone rather than a city.

Layout wise, Stormwind from WoW. Everything was close together and easy to find.

As for NPC life, the Empire's main city from WAR. Again, don't care for the game, but the city is great. It's big, there's slums, palaces, docks, taverns, multiple auctioneers, a guild hall thing, statues of accomplished players, a college where lava flows through every, dungeons, and to top it all off, a drunk guy in the bar goes ape sometimes and offs players in one or two hits.

Visual stunning goes to Rivendell from LOTRO, becasue it is simply beautiful.

Player life goes to Bree, it's cool to see people just hanging in a tavern and actually not roleplaying, just talking about stuff, or bands playing in different spots.

I have yet to see a city that combines all of these things though.

it had to be done :)

I think the only thing Buyers need to beware is getting sucked into the game and then coming home one day to find the wife has changed the locks on the door and dumped your PC in the garden :p

At least it's in the garden so you can still take it and keep playing! Granted you find an outlet...

It glances because its using the same mechanics other mmo's use to calculate damage which is a basic dice roll computing stuff such as your weapon skill and stats. If it worked like an fps where headshots and firing from 10 feet away killed you, then there would be no purpose to have an ap skill system at all.

Although headshots do crit much more often than a body shot :)

MMORTS?

 Darkfall isn't an MMORTS...

To my knowledge SAGA and Dreamlords are the only two real MMORTS games out right now.

 1) Yes, it is a large game, I got mine through STEAM though so the download was pretty snappy.

2) .... You're not paying for the download.... you're paying $50 FOR THE GAME. C'mon. There are few games that don't charge a box price. You also get the standard free 30 days with that. You're not just paying for the download though, you're paying for the client/activation key.

3) I found the community rather nice and helpful.

4) Yep, definitely. Icarus made this MMO with 5500 quests, a crap load of gear, quite a lot of landmass in roughly a year. You got them, it's all a Fallout 3 clone.....

No. Work started on FE before Fallout 3 was announced. Do I think the original Fallout and Fallout 2 inspire some things? Yeah, sure. But Fallout 3 had little to do with FE. They both just have pretty standard post-apoc landscapes.

And, please, stick to ONE thread degrading a game for many.... well, dumb reasons. Of course the community with think asking what the reloading hotkey is is dumb because it is... Oh yeah, here's your other thread:

You know, in case you forgot about it.

Only way I would come back is if they had a complete graphics overhaul.

That would bring me back just to see it, but the graphics aren't one of the reasons I left and don't play.

The community sucked, the game was fairly boring and lacked anything that engaged me. I'm sure it's gets better at higher levels when you combine various skills and play style can change. I don't want to play a game where I have a boring, unengaging grind to 80 though. In the end, they would have to revamp the entire skill, stat, and combat system to make me come back. Things that would make most of the current players flee.

 In no particular order:

1. Tabula Rasa (I got a lot of fun out of TR)

2. EVE Online

3. Fallen Earth (it's an early title, but it really is one of the few MMOs I enjoy)

If you're not building a character, there's no real need for persistence. Just log in, fight, fight, fight. log out till your fingers recover, then log in again, fight, fight, fight.

Sure it's fun, but it's not a good model for an MMORPG IMO.

Maybe for an alternate server, like the FFA PvP servers, you could get a maxed toon server where you log on with a maxed toon and just fight.

Two things,

The thread is about a medieval mod based around DAOC. Not some overhyped new game.

Secondly, yes, it is pretty much an FPS. I don't know what people aren't understanding. From what I understand the OP is talking about a third-person shooter in the DAOC universe.

DDO is definitely the best F2P title I know of, followed by Runes of Magic.

I wouldn't say DDO is overly complex, it has a ton of skills and stats and what not, if you want to mess with them. If not I belief they will auto adjust according to your class. Otherwise, it is a very fun MMORPG with complex dungeons that have different puzzles and traps. It actually makes you think and figure things out.

I would have to say, it's looking good although sharper textures would be great, along with more advanced mapping features (bump and normal mapping).

You could do it but a huge amount of work. The play style could be tweaked, to include hotbar powers but without point and click auto attack. AoC had the feel of a hybrid combat system in that way.

It actually wouldn't be quite that much work if you can borrow code from the two mods I mentioned, Modular Combat and Age of Chivalry for their upgrade systems and factions systems and AoCs combat and class systems. Remodel everything with a DAOC theme, get everything to play nice and tweak it (this would take quite a bit), and release. But the big systems (the three factions, upgrades, medieval theme, skills are in ModCom too, you can summon creatures so the code is even there for that) are all done, you'd just have to get them all together.
