...something I wish I had more of. I've been playing this game for 3 days and now I have to stop because of school and work and it sucks.

I just got a new computer; Intel duo quad core Q6600, Geforce 8800gt OC and 24 inch monitor. So I bought the game just because it came out, and it's so addictive like WoW was at the beginning. It's like a shiny gem of video game goodness.

My first impressions were that the graphics weren't good enough, but they just grow on you. It's like WoW without the cartoony graphics. Please don't get mad at me for saying that, I don't have enough time to describe exactly what I mean by that, just that it is more gritty than WoW.

There are lots of similarities to WoW, but I think these guys did a fantastic job with lots of little innovations, the game just looks and plays so damn tight. These are very new impressions of course, but I'd say anyone with a sweet rig and a good sized monitor needs to shell out the 50 bucks for this game. It's worth it. Now I just need to win the lottery so I can actually play it.

Did this reply?

Just kidding, but really, it's much better when you try it on a high end machine. That is, if you're a graphics whore like me. It looks really really sweet. If you're level 80 you have no life btw.

Installing: Dang this took forever. Around 2.5 hours with downloading, kinda long but oh well.

Account Creation: Pretty straightforward, the usual. Took around 10 minutes.

Intro: If you like Conan, you'll love the intro movie.

Character Create:  Quite satisfying. A decent amount of options and pretty cool classes and races.

Graphics: I give them at least a 9 out of 10. This is what I hoped WoW would be: realistic design, lots of detail, beautiful artwork. I play with the settings on low, but with bloom and 6XAA. The game looks fantastic.

Sound: Really crisp, nothing to complain about here.

Opening quests: like youre usual game intro. Play through it and rescue a hot chick and bring her to town. Pretty fun combat, decent amount of items and equipment drop.

Overall this is the best launch of any MMO in recent Memory. The graphics are just great and should play well on a fairly wide range of systems.

I'm on the RP PvP server (Hyperborea or something) and can't wait to try out the PvP.

Overall I like the game, but playing on a PvP server there are some things need to change.

Loading Screen camping, this is pathetic. Something should of been in game from start about this.

Instance Swapping running. How lame is it that you can fight someone and they can swap out of the instance instantly?

FC needs to fix these on the PvP servers.

Those do sound a bit cheesy, hopefully they fix those two things somehow. Should be gray when you zone in for 10 or 15 seconds so either no one can kill you or anyone who does gets penalized. Whatever, I'm just happy they FFA PVP whack jobs have a place to go now. Where I can kill them, that is.

It must happen. Only if we let it die, the lesson is learned.

I had my entries and breaks, but now, after server merge, I came back a third time. VG has it qualities, no doubt. But all in all its cumbersome, difficult, deadly and dull. I still spent about 60% of my time SEEKING things instead of having fun, I still die waaay too fast and often compared to medium difficulty games like EQ2 ( NO I DONT PLAY WOW!) and still its difficult to find a group (not because of lack of players, but those who are in only group with friends) asf. Really, VG has qualities, but altogether its so unbelievable cumbersome, EACH damn time I feel, hey lets resub and see how VG has evolved after some time I feel intolerable levels for frustration. When I was stuck in some damn curtain of doom today (aka bug) and died because of the uber fast repop I just decided this was my thrid and last try.

VG deserves to die. Its a lesson devs must learn, the painful way, as I learned in this thrice damned excuse for a game. ><

You may write athousand times I am stupid, whatever. I think I am as good or as bad as most players, and years of MMO experience have shown ME, what I am capable of, which is all I need to know. The unwelcoming nature of the game is just too much.

You have been going back and forth on Vanguard for over a year, maybe just YOU shouldn't play?

I like the graphics, like this one

The graphics are very very good, much better than I had even hoped there would be in a PVP game. I like PVP but I like graphics more. We humans can make our own content; that's what online communities sprung from in games like Uo and EQ. Everquest was very much more about community than it ever was about quests, or at the very least equally so.

For those who cannot live without PVE, here's your content: You. Getting owned. By me.

I'm kidding obviously, but seriously please don't rule this game out as any sort of success just because of it's lack of PVE. PVP in an MMORPG doesn't ever have to be about being a ganking/griefing/exploiting/leetspeakingchowderhead. There really are lots of us with honour.

This SS is sick

I must admit a knights of the old republic type MMO made by Bioware would be unbelievable.

Another point is this. If you have a vision of a game so grand in scope that it would cost more than 80 million to make, and you know from the beginning you only have $30 million to spend from your investor, you don't blame the investor! You either get a different investor from the beginning who can supply the needed funds, or failing that  you adjust your vision to fit your budget. Sigil did neither.

I think that people just believed, and no one person knew exactly how difficult neigh impossible their task was. They did amazing things on what budget they had though. Chalk that up to the human spirit.

I seriously can't wait till September when I get my new video card and am actually able to play again though. Any predictions on what the game will be like after summer?

If they make an expansion before fixing the existing game then I'll be out on the Anti-SOE picket lines along with Shayde.

Awesome screens Teala thanks for this thread. I especially like the one of the lizard man close up, just so sweet. Vanguard's graphics just do it for me, some will disagree and to each their own. I am a tech guy however and I'll take high detail over bloom any day.

One thing i will say is that Vangaurd has some of THE BEST armor and weapon models I have ever seen. The totaly beat LotRO in that department.( at least what Ive seen )

My lvl 20 Dread knight - slightly lowered Balanced settings - what I play at..

Yup that is some badass armor. And the weapons in Vanguard equally kick ass. They beat any game save arguably EQ2 and of course a billion manga fans will say Lineage 2. Anywho that armor rocks.

Ummm...those are environment shots.  I said LoTR has great environment graphics.   They always have done a good job with that.  AC2  proved that.   Now show us the best close up of a character.  I'll do one of mine and we'll compare images.   :)

That's not an actual screenshot. That was concept art that Turbine has shown us during beta. Sorry, but I've been a LOTRO beta player ever since the Pink Alpha Faries were in and you can't fool a LOTRO player of your false character detail shots. Try again and this time do a screenshot like we all are doing and show us your character.

Same with your environment shots. They are not only shots taken by Turbine, but also they have been doctored for advertisement. If you are going to show off LOTRO I would STRONGLY suggest you do it with shots of your own. So that way people can see what gamers see. LATER

I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like....victory. Or as Kelso would say....BURN! And anyway, that armor on that guy is way low poly and without bumpage just looks low budget. Mountains and trees sure to look purty tho.

Vanguard is a game to rival EQ in complexity and breadth of play options.

I did not find it to be so at all.

Then I guess you didn't play it. More races, more classes, more area to explore, more quests: more everything man. You clearly haven't a clue.

As for the home thing, definitely. Vanguard is a place you can go and always find something to do no matter what mood you are in. You meaning me.

dont give me that fanboi optimistic bullsh*t.  yeah i bought clothes like a mofo for crafting to try to make the complications stop.  it did jack sh*t.  i crafted my ass off. you cant make crap worth crap until around lvl 15 so all those great items your talking about is a damn lie.

and yeah i was under a certain impression of what the game was going to be like according to all the damn q&a's and faqs and all that stupid crap that sigil had been doing years prior to beta/release.  and the game they produced is nothing like what they advertised in the beginning.  and no playing a single player game wouldnt do it for me bud, considering i play mmo's for the content single player games cant offer and the oh so fun community of people you get to meet in mmo's

and ive read many posts from a whole variety of people with different systems from high end to my crap ass low end specs and most of them couldnt run the game the way any of them were hoping to.  and even on low end it still lagged like a bitch.  and i didnt want to play vanguard cause it was so high demanding as you said. i played cause it seemed to be the game i was hoping to play since i discovered mmo's.

and all the bad things that people say are 100% true! stop twisting words around to try to make it seem like im takling out of my ass. i played this damn game a lot and i know what im talking about.  so you can take your  face and blow it out your ass.  its bastards like you that still sucker poor unknowing people into games that arent worth buying

Sorry man, but he was right. This post by you that Reklaw quoted made you sound so stupid and full of impotent rage. Grow up, kid.

Some people would have you believe that the game is now flawless, and that anyone saying different is lying, trolling, hasn't played since beta.

Cmon man, you don't have to exaggerate to give people a sobering view of Vanguard. Show me one ****ing post where someone said Vanguard was "flawless" and I'll show you my time machine. I'll drop you off at SWG's release date while I make my way back to UO's.

I enjoy your posts like Seinfeld but I had to call B.S.--Vanguard doesn't need any extra conspiracy theories, especially from the credible.

Pretty interesting stuff. Kind of shocked that they are planning on adding an instance, but not as dissapointed as I thought I might be by such news. I just hope they don't go too too crazy with instances.

I love the idea of ocean content and ship to ship combat. Also, I love the screenshots on that page, this one in particular. Just a darn kewl screenshot.

I purchased this game a month ago and tried to play in on my 1st gen. Dell Xps (3.2g x800xt 2g3200 ram).  It ran like a dried slug.  I uninstalled it and thought the game was horrible.

Fast forward to today..I got a new system (mach 5) and reinstalled the game.  Let me just say this thing is jawdropping.  The enviroment is realistic; the spell animations are awesome.  Although I am not a big fan of the character animations, Vanguard has my attention for now with the game.

Yes, it kicks LoTR Shadows of Angmar square in the nuts.

LOL /drool I want a mach 5 too.

P.S.- it would have run just about as good on your previous system with some appropriate tweaks.

Performance has always made people shy away from Vanguard. Heck, I was about to quit after playing for 2 days and write a nasty post on the official forums when I was in beta 3. When I went to the site, I happened to stumble upon Morts tweak thread and that changed my opinion 100%. The game went from crap to gold in about 10 minutes.

It's easy to say a game sucks hardcore donkey if it looks like a bunch of random laggy crap on your computer.

Awesome links man, thanks. Bored at work here too reading. I think Vanguard has some of the best game lore outside of an I.P. ever written. Shame most people in this forum just won't read it. Oh well, those of us who appreciate good fiction and don't harbor hate for this group of ones and zeros will enjoy the read.
