I wouldn't say that only hardcore players hate the game, I am sure that there is more than enough hate from the casual player to around.

Well that depends on what match you get into, but on a whole, they are still the same, you wait forever in a que and then you get bumped just to wait all over again.

I like the weekly episodes but it would be nice if both klingon and feds could participate together doing the missions.  Other than the Breen torp. the rewards are kind of lame, I put my box of tube steaks in the bank and the grenades were good, too bad you can't get more of them.

The tubers are actually a great reward - you can feed them to certain breeds of tribble (Mattson or a Ricossa) and get a Rare Cryo Tribble from them!

Yeah I knew that but I guess it is OK if you are a breeder of tribbles but me as  Klingon just use them to toss in my warp core for that extra boost of speed when you need it.

I came to believe that when Cryptic says that the Alpha testors had trouble or that something just can't be done is usually just an excuse for not wanting to do it.  I have yet to see someone who Alpha tested the game say they did not want 360 turns/loops or that they got motion sickness without all those rocks in every system or the game does not need ingame voice chat..

You are correct, there are no missions that take place on or within your ship and that truly is sad.  Like you said, there are so many things that could be implemented with the ship interiors with the least being a Warp Core overload wich everyone kow happened more than a few time in every series.

If they had a trial (not a SP demo) then I would try this game out and consider buying it. Until then, no thanks. Haven't heard many good things about it anyways.

What, you are expecting a full trial from a company who made you pay to beta test,, well to be honest, you had to pre-order to get into beta but it is still paying for beta.

Well, they got these big interiors, now how about makeing a few missions that can be done in them, like fighting off a boarding party or something that would realy be within the Star Trek Universe.

Well everyone knew it was going in that direction, but I didn't think it would so fast.

That would be the best thing that could happen to STO, that way it can die,

What is the deal with all the browser games as of lately?

The thing about the new weekly content is that it is nothing new.  All they did was just combine 3 of the same missions that we were doing into one.  You still scan 5 of these, kill 5 of these, there is nothing new and the rewards are not worth the time except for the Breen Torp. and that has limited usefulness.

And I suppose that I am to clap my hands and jump for joy over that list?  The first part of what they have done for us lately should have been in the game from launch.  The second part is nothing but promises of things to come which is the same old story that Cryptic always uses,,The check is always in the mail, just hold on for another 3 or 4 months and you will see that the game is getting better well, when you hit rock bottom there is no place to go but up.

I could only think of a few, but of course my dirty mind went to work.

I wouldn't play this game if it was T'Pal with Pon Farr and I was the only male around for 100 light years.

I wouldn't play this game even if Seven of Nine said I could plug into her collective consciousness.

I wouldn't play this game even if Yoshi said she would give me lessons in how to be a cunning linguist.

Oh, you bad, bad boy.

I am still waiting for my Klingon Scaners to work, they been broke since BETA.  I find it funny that they can pump out Fed Starships every couple of weeks to put in the C-Store but fail to fix something as small as a scanner.  I realy believe that within 12 months, just long enough for the Lifers to get their monies worth to go F2P  that way Cryptic dosen't have to justify any thing they do with the game.

Theyre not broken. Scanners only detect non-combat interractable objects, and Klingons simply have none. That said, I do want them to detect combat groups as well, but as it currently stands the scanner works exactly like it was made to, and is therefore not broken.

I think that is a load bull, everything is non-combat interactable until I decide to shoot at it and then it becomes combat interactable.

Oh, your free to think whatever you want, but in this particular case your wrong. There is no interaction you can have with enemies other than combat. You cant scan them or activate them in any way.

That's not it at all.

It's actually a tech issue which prevents this from happening. The difference being that the tricorder scan is looking for interactions described as "clickable" on the map, and then pointing the way there.

Your objectives however are described as "destructable" and so the tricorder doesn't pick them up.

I know... not really cool.

So, what we have is a tech issue, AND we think that we may have a solution. I'm not making promises about a when, or even guaranteeing it will happen right now. However, I did just put a bee in the ear of about half the STO team, starting with Stahl, and they walked me around, we spoke to various different members of the team, and they are going to look to see if it can be done easily. If not, it will take a while longer to get out to you. However, we are working on it!

Thanks,

Stormshade

Looks like Cryptic is on the ball.

I must admit this review was pretty interesting.  Although it seems that the writer was slanted more towards Cryptic than giving an honest and nonbiased review.  One of the things Cryptic failed to take into account when developing this game was that Star Trek fans are some of the most knowledgeable fans around. Every year thousands of Star Trek fans attend conventions, by books, manuals and even encyclopedias on Star Trek. Cryptic also failed to realize that if they put out a half-baked game that the fans would revolt against them, they also failed to realize that Star Trek is more of a religion and a way of life to many of its fans.  Just about every episode has been taken apart, discussed, and analyzed for the underlying meaning of that episode.  Every bit of technology that has been used in the show from warp drive theory to phasers to the Picard maneuver has been thoroughly discussed for accuracy and feasibility.  To make a Star Trek game where Federation officers attack for no reason, kill and steal items from other ships goes against everything Star Trek stood for and was a slap in the face to every true Star Trek fan.  Ok, I am sure that there are some who will say that has all changed with the diplomacy missions, but going to a planet and scanning the five hazardous plants is not diplomacy.  Talking to the Breen and beaming out captives is not diplomacy. Diplomacy is using your brain to think of ways around something, where the outcome is beneficial to everyone. So for cryptic to think that they can make a half baked Star Trek and get no flak for their efforts is foolish. They failed to take into account the loyalty and intelligence of their fan base. For cryptic to say that “we just don't get it” is pure arrogance. Now I am sure that there are many fans of Star Trek Online the game, but they are not fans of Star Trek and what it stood for. There is no doubt that the majority of the players came to this game because of its name, and expecting to take part in the Star Trek universe, to be the Picard, Kirk or Janeway and be put in similar situations and see how they would handle it, but what they got was a single shooter space based game with Star Trek skins. It doesn't matter how many commercials are shown on TV that compares the quality of a Hundai to a Mercedes, the fact is, a Hundai will never be a Mercedes and you can be comforted in a believing that you have a Hundai and it is just as good as a Mercedes, but deep down you know it is not and wish you had a Mercedes, that's the way to fans of Star Trek feel.  In my opinion, Cryptic deserves every bit of negativity they receive.

How is this a MMO though? looks to be only a Online Shooter.

Feel me in please.

" According to devs, the game will "thrust hundreds of players together into a lush, dynamic open world combining intense competitive multiplayer and large-scale cooperative gameplay." "

In case you didnt bother to read the article.Seems to be mmo enough for me it all remains to be seen tho.

Just because they describe something that resembles an MMO dosen't make it one.  Star Trek Online claims to be an MMO but everyone who plays it knows that it is a single person shooter most of the time and far from being an MMO, well atleast in the real world.

Well in my opinion F2P has a place and many of them are good games as an example I would say RuneScape.  Now I have not played it in years but as I remember their were two options, one was free and one cost 5.00 a month.  The free had a limited amount of missions and area which you could do/use and the paid was open.  Another is Free Realms which my 5 year old loves, he has been playing it for avout 6 months and it does not cost anything unless you want to buy upgrades and things like that, but since he is only 5 he usually changes players every other day.  It is a good way to see if you want to invest in the game or not.  Well that is my take on F2P.
