I doubt cbs would complain, it's like writing fan fiction on a games forums. If you read the ELUA it says anything submitted to the web site becomes instantly the property of said company to use, reuse, modify, and distribute as they please. In other words, you draw a picture, make a good story, or submit something you liked and wanted people to enjoy. The next week you see that something in the game or on TV and go, hum, wait I made that, wheres my credit for it? They really don't care if you wreck canon or not, they just won't allow something that does to be included into the game, but if you advance canon then they will keep it.

This was a big thing around the time that this game and many others like SWToR were announced, people flooded the forums with stuff then found out that their stuff, stuff they had made, now belonged to Cyrptic, EA, Blizzard, etc. To put it simple these companys love this stuff, because not only are they getting paid by you for you to make content for them, they get the rights to it the second you hit submit.

I think you're totally right, and people should be made aware of that. As a freelance artist, NEVER post your work on commercial forums. On a side related note I think this is a little abusive, a bit too much power given to corporations by legal infringements, as is more and more the case. My work should remain mine, and those post should serve as a proof of anteriority. Unfortunately, they don't, so beware if you create stories you wish (hope) to see published, because they won't, ever, at least not with your name on it, if you use them in foundry stories. Which is sad.

I'm thinking that one day a million-dollars hit from a big media corporation, originally written by a fan on their forum, will make a huge noise and hopefully help limit how much companies can "own" our data. Especially when we happen to be creator of said data...

It's a totally weird legislation too. How would people feel if Microsoft owned Windows-created content, Adobe owned all Photoshop created content, and so on?

The only problem with that is that a site can put anything down as rules or agrements to use their site, the problem comes with trying to enforce those agreements, like at a big box store that has a sign outside that says they are not responsible for damage to your car from loose shopping carts or the sticker on the back of an over loaded dump truck full of gravel that says they are not responsible for damages caused from loose or falling items from the truck, they loose everytime they are sued.

Well, just about everyone is either an Admiral ot General and they all fly their own ship getting orders from Lts. and Capts. on what to do.  An Admiral for every ship and every ship for an Admiral.  If they had this system Admiral Kirk would never of had to be busted down to Captain just to get a ship again.

And that would be?
I have to tell you, that is one cool computer. I have an old P-4 that still works and I am going to give it a try myself and if it works I just might go all out on a new build. thanks for the link.
I must say that I am realy enjoying this game. This is the first MMO where you buy all of your desired equipment, pay a monthly fee and they give you.....
Say whatever you want about this game, but my Son loves it and I would rather him play this then some other game.

If you count the Federation's manditory new Prime Directive to shoot first, blow up and destroy on sight Star Trek Lore, then it is right on target.  If a Klingon can walk around strokeing a tribble lore,, then yes, it is followed by the numbers.

I beg to differ with you on the popularity of STO.  For the last two weeks I have been sitting in space looking for a group to do a STF with and the most I could get was three, sometimes I would be the only person in the whole sector.  The wait for Pvp is not as long as it used to be but there still is a good wait and when you do get in you have to put up with all the space junk like mines fighters and now that every one can put out fighters and tractor beam mines the battle field is just too cluttered to get or keep a lock on a target.  Your ship still gets stuck in rocks in space and your character sitll gets hung up on plants and anything else over an inch in height  while moveing on the ground.  Sure they made alot of of new content, but that content should of been there at launch, not over a year after and they made little improvement to he mechanics of the game, but the game does look pretty with those Borg equipment attachments for you ships, now everyone can fly around in a Christmas Tree.

This game is, in my opinion, one of the best MMOs out on the market. It has a fantastic atmosphere, very exciting and immersive quests (quest-lines), beautiful graphics, excellent sound and a very good dev team, who listen to the community and take care of the game.  I wouldn't call a Dev team the has the "They Just Don't Get It" attitude very careing and listening.

STO has been misunderstood in the beginning, everyone wanted a Sci-Fi-WOW and got disappointed by learning that the game strucuture and mechanics of STO are completely different.  No one wanted a Sci-Fi WOW game, but that is what we got, a shoot first and blow things up and ask no questions game.

It's slow paced, it's not about jumping around and smashing buttons, it's not (so much) about collecting items and rewards.  That is exactaly what it is about, jumping around and smashing buttons.

You have to turn your ship into the right position, you have to use shields and other gadgets in ground combat at the right time a.s.f., everything at a slow, tactical pace.  There is nothing tacticle about space or ground combat, the person who shoots first with the most usually wins and the battle is usually one big slow circle.

It's about having a great, exciting and fun experience on your way to the highest level. It's not about getting to max level as fast as possible to then play the endgame. I am commander 8 now (playing 4 MMOs at the same time right now, STO, DCUO, Rift (beat) and AOC), although I play from the day of release now and I didn't even once think about wich level I am now and how long it will take to get to max level. I simply enjoy the present adventuring experience.

Maybe one off its main problems is that the game does  not fit into the US market because of its different play style. Here in germany, I know a lot of happy players who would never quit. (This is NOT a judging in any ways !) Well it is good to know that Cryptic will always have a market in Germany.

I played 11 MMOs so far, each  to max. level and a minimum of 6 month, and I have never witnessed such a great peace of art like STO to this point.  I would love to know what 11 mmo's you played to make this statement.

STO has evolved a lot since release and I can only recommend to anyone to try it out, play it open minded and give it a little time to undestand it. You will get a wonderful game if you like star trek or science fiction in general.  You are correct, STO did evolve alot since it launched in pre-beta stage.  At this point in time STO is or would be in the last stages of Beta before being released.

What we fail to realize is what Cryptic said months ago about most of us is "that we just don't get it".

I for one am glad to see it go.  I can not tell you how many days I waited trying to get into a group to get a piece of Rad gear only to be told you needed rad gear to get rad gear, I always thought who came up with this great idea to make people wait days for a group to get just one piece of gear ( that is if you don't belong to a kinship) when it could of been easier to tie it to deeds or make it a crafting skill.  Well, I am glad it is gone, maybe I will start my sub back up and pick up where I left off.

Well, that is your right to disagree, but the question was is the game worth getting and in my opinion, yes it is.  No one has bashed this game more than I have, just check out my previous posts, but for the price you can get it at now and the amount of content that exists, it is well worth a try for a couple months atleast.

I woul say that yes, after a year STO is worth picking up.  This is where the game should of have been at launch but it launched in a pre-beta stage and ruined it for the players that got in at the beginning.  For spme of the players who got in at the start (I am one of them), nothing Cryptic can do would make this game redeemable in their eyes, but as a new player or one who is re-subbing after stoping after the first month or so, then Yes, this game is definately worth  a monthly sub.

Pretty good.

They always could put a shine on a turd , but it's still a turd. I give you this for consideration.

Xp boost? How does this help the VA's and their Klningon counterparts? Leveling isn't exactly an issue in the game. it's fairly simple.

Seriously? You think putting something in the C-Store is something to celebrate? Re-ally? How about you GIVE the people something? You know for helping you survive the last year during your game which is little better then an open beta? How about that? You do more for the C-Store then you do anything else. How is something new there, special?

The release of the new "weekly content" isn't something to celebrate. It's been since the Fall of 2010 since the last time you released anything new for the players to play. Doing your job isn't cause for celebration, not at all.

You started to copy players missions onto the Holodeck? Ok. But that isn't content YOU made. It's not part of a celebration, is it? It's not new content, it's player made content. And don't forget you have alll been saying the UGC wouldn't degrade or replace content you produced. OF course when you set a standard of releasing new content every 5-6 months I guess it will be a simple matter to say, it's not having an impact, huh?

Is this really the amount of effort you wanted to give and show people for the games one year anniversary? Is this really the level of love and dedication you have to the people paying your salaries? Seriously? This is akin to buying the first card you see on a shelf. It's very much like giving someone a get well card on their birthday. How sad you couldn't find a way to do just a bit more.

I have an idea, why don't you give eveyone currently subscribed a choice between the Grumba, Delta flyer or the vulcan ship, gratas? Don't pretend it would spell doom and gloom for the game. Clearly you can afford it. You want to do something special? Do that.
if you aren't happy, vote with your subscription. that is your recourse.

as for the team, I've already said in multiple threads that we spent an awful lot of energy doing these updates and on top of that the majority of our "budget" went into the next feature episode series.

if you're convinced that we aren't pouring our lifeblood into this game, i invite you to come visit the studio and i'll introduce you to everyone working on the game and you can ask them personally.

Funny thing is right after he posted his article, he was banned, go figure.

To celebrate the launch of Champions Online: Free for All and the one year anniversary of Star Trek Online, we’ll be discounting the price of Lifetime Subscriptions for both games by 20%! The sale starts January 25 at 6 a.m. Pacific and ends February 4 at 10 a.m. Pacific. This means players will be able to purchase a Lifetime Subscription to Champions Online: Free for All or Star Trek Online for just $239.99!

This is absolutely hilarious . They announce that CO goes F2P on Jan 25 and post this crap ! Wow , they think people are as dumb as door stops.  This borders on unethical behavior. When you really give it some thought, you're really just paying full price for STO. Cryptic has hit a new low. Anyone who takes advantage of this , I have land for sale, in NJ.

Yes there are people who play STO that are dumb as rocks, just look at their forums, as of yesterday there were atleast 12 that were going to bite on that discounted life time and even more who said that they would if they could make payments.

Where STO is now is where it should have been when it launched.  Yes, I am sure that everyone who picks it up at the discounted price and plays the first few weeks will think that STO is the Cat's Meow and jump right on the forums and enlighten everyone on how wrong the nay sayers have been and how those people who played since Beta must be playing a different game than the one they just bought for $2.50 since there is so much content and so much stuff to buy in the C-Store that those old player haters can't be playing the same game as them, but then again, maybe they are playing the same game but they Just Don't Get It.

I have to agree with you on that.  The game is worth a couple moonths sub, but soon it will be F2P maybe in 3 months.  You can also dress up in your 7 of 9 coustme that you bought from the C-store and hang out all day with your other friends who also bought that costume and table dance of that one Ferengi space station like I saw last night.

This was my number 1 most wanted feature, and I'm so glad its here now. It's restored a lot of faith in Cryptic.. this game mighty actually have some hope left afterall. Well done Cryptic.

Don't get your hopes up, just because they fixed something that people cried about doesn't mean they care.  I am waiting to see just how much fixing Sector Space will be off-set in the C-store.  Now if they can only get the Klingon Scanners to work then I will be impressed.

Oh, I totaly agree with you that the new episodes are no reason to re-sub.  The new weekly episodes are too simple and boarder on being lame.  The fact is once you make LG or VA the only things that you can do is your dailies, day after day and an occasional PvP if you can wait for whatever seems forever to get in and then you have to deal with all of the trash that is put out.

I agree that the game is getting better.  This is where the game should of been at launch, not that almost Alpha state that it was launched in.
