A months supply of Tuck's will help.
Other than that, I would find myself a clan before you even fire Darkfall up. Or at least before you start playing seriously.
Good luck. |

And that's what makes open PVP games superior to themeparks....we decide wtf is going on in the gameworld... even more than say a sandbox like EVE which has empire space....
Sorry, that's not special treatment. Everyone plays by the same rules regardless of style. Daarco said it like the sellers were in bed with the developers or something. Which, given Aventurine's track record, wouldn't surprise me at all.
Superior to themeparks? That's debatable and purely an opinion. Not even worth discussion. As far as comparing Darkfall to other games? I find it as nothing more than a sad attempt to somehow prop up Darkfall and Aventurine. The truth is, Darkfall, with the exception of being "3D", can't even compare with a game that is 12 years old.
Player justice 4TW. How's that working out? Because it wasn't working when I quit in June. In fact, it has never worked in an MMO, and for Aventurine to think that it would magically work for them is beyond naive. Raph Koster has a few articles as to why posted on his site, if anyone cares to read them.
As for gold sellers, I have already stated that Aventurine has all Asian countries blocked, but add that to the dismal population and the lack of a free trial, there aren't going to be too many. And at $50+ a pop, there probably never will be.
Then again, who cares? Or was this just another attempt to "prop" up Darkfall? Until Darkfall can hold it's own, on it's own merits, let's at least leave the horns and cymbals packed away. Let's just stop all the "my dad can beat up your dad" nonsense. Deal? |

I kind of figured that it was because Aventurine has the Asian ip's blocked. Dear Leader Tasos mentioned it back during launch, I believe.
Anyway, I'm just curious about the "special treatment" that the gold sellers/spammers/farmers etc., receive in other MMOs. |

I take it you mean PeeVeePee mindset when you say military power? I ask because my first thought was, "What the heck does not using afterburners have to do with anything?" I guess I am not following you on this part. Probably lack of sleep.
Ok, in your scenario regarding components. How does that help anything? Each and every player can still do it themselves. Maybe I am just being stubborn. But when I see Aventurine announce the Caravans and Player Vendor additions, I ask myself why are they working on these things? The Role Players are few and far between in Darkfall, and that is the only case that I can see caravans being used with the current system. Player vendors? People will use them as storage. Nothing more.
Oh well. Maybe Aventurine can figure out a way to fix the economy, along with a myriad of other things.

This is what you get when everyone can do everything. I'm not really interested in discussing this point, but until Aventurine somehow addresses this issue, the economy in Darkfall cannot be fixed.

No they didn't. Go read the interview. All they said was they would make allowances for NA players playing on the EU server to play on the NA server when the time comes. That could mean anything as in transfers with fees, transfers without fees, being able to just create a character on the NA server day 1, transfers day 1, transfer 6 months after the server launch, etc. Giving the part of your post that I highlighted consideration, Tasos/Aventurine did mislead their player-base. If Tasos/Aventurine hadn't made the stealth change in policy changing it from single character per server to single character per account, then most of the outcry would never have happened.
I would like to think that most players could understand the need for a waiting period before established characters would be allowed to transfer to a new server.
Then again I have been wrong before.

General: The List: Top 5 MMOs That Need Remakes
News Discussion « General Discussion 10/06/09 5:17:24 PM
I will have to stand behind you on UO in the #1 spot.
Another EA blunder I would like to see remade and that is Earth & Beyond. I was just getting into the game when EA hit it with the Out-of-NoWhere-Axe-of-Banishment for OVER 9000!!!
Heck and to a lesser degree, Motor City Online. |

Nothing fishy there Darth, MMO)RPG's are discussed, but in the game world, the concept and design are basically the same. The article discusses the sandbox. Yes, there are diferences that have to be accounted for between your 1 - 4 player RPG and a MMORPG, but the fundamentals are the same. The author firmly believes that the biggest mistake a designer makes when wanting to create a "sandbox" environment, is that "less is more". That the amount of detail and dedication that is required to pull off a successful "sandbox" is usually lost on today's game designers.
"Conclusion In direct opposition to the notion implied by the metaphor, sandbox design requires more top-level design, not less. To be frank: the great risk of the sandbox is that it can be boring. Where the sandbox is the main part of the game, sometimes the game is impossible to "master": instead you can just juke around with it until it grows tiresome. In this case, there's no artfully-crafted narrative, so no climax; there's no reward scheme or gameplay-building (such as technique-training and gradation of difficulty). All told, it is weak on conventional game-design fundamentals. The added freedom makes up for this to an extent, but the problems must still be addressed and overcome by the gameplay design itself. The space-empire-building game X3 is a solid example of this. "There is a main campaign, but it is secondary to the sandbox play. (It wasn't carefully designed or written, which is unfortunate, but let's leave that aside.) The game shines as a sandbox involving the handling of complex systems, and the emergent behaviors are interesting, on a systemic scale. In the end, however, managing the empire becomes something like a full-time job, the goal and reward being that you have a stranglehold on a single-player universe. From one perspective, it's fun to gradually corner and master a dynamic system, but from another perspective it's -- well, let's just say that one might be inspired to existential or self-ironical thoughts: "why am I doing this?" "

What makes Darkfall a "Sandbox"? Like has been stated numerous times, you can ask 100 people what the criteria that a game has to meet before it can be labeled a "sandbox" is, and you will get 10, 000 different combination's .
Most feel that as long as it meets "their" criteria, it is a sandbox. Even if said criteria may change at a moments notice, and doesn't meet the next person's set of criteria.
Here's a little article I ran across a while back, that takes a pretty in-depth look at what makes a game a sandbox, and where most developers fall short.
The History and Theory of Sandbox Gameplay
Personally, I found the article to be refreshing and just a little more than enlightening.
Now, this doesn't answer the OP question as to what makes Darkfall a sandbox or not, but it may shed some light as to why some feel the way they do on the matter.
Enjoy.

How much of a performance boost would an i7 add over a c2d 3.0ghz?

Well, at least if you get the i7 front-end, you know where to work from (towards).
Anyway, good luck with whatever route you choose.

Well, just from the memory standpoint alone, having the memory controller on the i7 processor itself makes a world of difference in throughput, that the C2D can't touch. What it does is gets rid of a "step", a.k.a. the Northbridge, thus reducing latency. Also, the controller on the i7 has 3 memory channels, versus 2 with the C2D Northbridge.
This "small" difference is enough for me to make my next build an i7. |

Well, to be honest, I have done some modifications as far as all the mesh goes. With a little creativity, using some 1/8" polycarbonate in strategic places helps direct the air a little more proficiently.
I basically just like the HAF's looks overall. Plus it had either top or bottom PSU mount. The Antec 1200 is a nice case also. I guess I am just a sucker for that style is all.
As far as room goes, my EVGA GTX 295 Co-Op has no problem fitting in the HAF.
Anyway, I hope the OP finds what he needs.
Good luck. |

Personally, I have the Cooler Master HAF 932, and I swear you could park a dump truck in it. Right now the price is right from New Egg at $139.99 (usually $159.99) Not to mention that the airflow is absolutely superb.
And to top it off, it looks good. I did what one of the reviewers did and painted the insides a flat black.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide on. |

Not bad, not bad at all.
Would have been cool if the author had worked in Unknown Soldier by Breaking Benjamin. |
