Actually, ACE Online is my favorite localization of the localizations that exist. ACE is an acronym for [Aerial Combat Extreme] Online; compared to such classics as Space Cowboy Online and Air Rivals lol. I like it as is. If you've played the game movindude, how would you change it?

Seriously enough of the spamming. I appreciate that you all want to post your review of the game, but let's do it in a somewhat tactful manner okay? ACE Online Review! x(20) is going to scare more people away than it will bring in. I'm hoping all subsequent reviews be posted in THIS thread, not through creating a new one.

Gee, if there was a little more courtesy, and less hostility (however justified), I'd do a little more forum digging to see, since this question keeps coming up. However, I do believe the current answer is a no, but that may change with the next huge patch (EP 3-2) which is coming out at some point shortly (lots of localization going on as well as bug testing). You'd likely have more luck posting in the game's forums themselves, in Gen. Discussion, since all the legit, non-ZOMG I WANT REWARDS people view that.

Your friendly "reviewer"

Baishuu.

Or you could have read my reply in an earlier thread. You know, whichever. I'm tired of it and I'm going to make a thread for this because the spam is shameful at best.

e: These are in fact legit reviews, from people who love the game. Granted it was done in a shameful at best fashion, good reviews are just that, good reviews. If you go to rottentomatos, for instance, and see that 97% of the people absolutely LOVE movie A, are they all Half Baked reviews? Once again, I grant you the people have went about this in a terrible fashion, but each individual wrote up their own review for this (there was no template), so keep that in mind when reading or simply skipping over.

Well, the company just launched their Ad campaign (for ACE Online anyways), and they wanted help from the players to get the word out about ACE Online. Naturally this involved rewards, and people want said rewards, so they post reviews for the game at various sites geared towards games and their reviews. Naturally the only people doing this are the people who love the game, so it's a little... overwhelming... I'll admit, especially since the period is over a very short amount of time for the rewards. It really is a great game, and I hope people don't get turned off by this kind of thing (although I have a feeling they might). As you can see, I've been here far longer than the past few days trying to get the word out, so at least you know I'm not motivated out of wanting a reward. I was kinda hoping that everyone would post it in the Review Thread, instead of just spamming... but I can't do anything about it here.

The game's real purpose is a PvP game though, and that's where it shines. Too many MMO's (in my opinion), are grind centered, and as far as skill goes, it's all based on where to point and what to click. Sure, strategy is there, but ACE is really a lot more in depth than that. You literally control everything about your gear. Speed, height, turn angle, barrell rolls, and the like are completely controlled by you, and the grind just gives you more levels and stat points, as well as giving you higher leveled gear. In the game, PvP is a lot more skill dependent than gear/level dependent, which, combined with the flight sim feel as well as the MMO Nation vs. Nation aspect, make it one unique game, which has been the focal point for just about everyone who loves the game. Take out the PvP, it's just a grind game, like so many others. WITH PvP though, it's a completely different game (there is no penalty whatsoever to killing other nation members. It's encouraged as they drop things called killmarks, used to make things. Duels records are shown if you wish, and there's no penalty for losing).

Really, the game is quite commonplace without the PvP aspect, and it's just a grind MMO if you don't. The GM's did implement a function to make everyone level faster, so it doesn't take too long to get into the warring range (5x-6x), and really experience how fun the game is. So while there have been a lot of posts recently (and NOT in one thread unfortunately, I hope someone can merge them all into one topic, but I don't know how your forums work compared to ours), each and every one of them was entirely written by the person who posted it, and it's how they personally feel about the game. They all (or most, I haven't read all of them) mentioned in some way the PvP aspect, because it's so central and so unique in making the game what it is. I hope everyone who gave this game a bad review played it where they could at least experience ONE Nation vs. Nation battle (and there's at least 5 a day, not including the weekly ones) before judging it.

Bumpin' to say this game definitely is still around, and server populations are rising. With this game and the massive wars involved, the more people, the more fun; almost exponentially so.

It' really no different than when I first posted here months ago, only now the GM's are offering rewards to players for posting. In essence (since I've already posted my reviews on sites, I'm not eligible for prizes but here I am anyways), my previous reviews share my thoughts on the game, specifically how it takes itself out of the "Point and Click" style of play, and into a 6 Degree freedom of movement system not unlike the old game Descent (truly a classic. Still love that game), only with massive PvP that is primarily skill, not equipment based. The reason for this influx is due to SUBA (finally) starting to advertise their games (Metin 2, the add showing as I type this, is another one of their's), and ACE Online is (in my opinion) the best, but least well known. Basically the ACE players are trying to get the word out, show how great the game is, and raise server population because, in this game, the more players there are, the more fun it is due to a LOT more PvP happening. Please don't think they're spammers or something, they're just trying to get the word out to those who may be considering an MMOFPS game, because this game really is a hidden gem.

I feel that someone who would say "You need friends in order to play this game" is someone who didn't try to join a brigade ("guild") or were very outgoing to start with. PvP really doesn't start I'd say until level 50 (which doesn't take all that much time to get to). Before then, you're going to die a LOT more than you kill, which makes perfect sense. You're up against a bunch of high level players who have put their time and effort into this game in order to become great at it. And let's be sure to note, equipment is not the be all end all in PvP. I've fought many people with "hax equips" and easily beaten them because they don't know how to actually FIGHT, they depend solely on their equipment to get their kills. If you're smart and know the game, you can beat them (I beat a level 72+ at 58 with no problem in a 1v1).

This game has a really good community for the most part (there are always exceptions), and if you take a look around, you're more than likely going to find a brigade that suits you and helps you out. I'll agree that at low levels you can't do much PvP on your own (nor should you really, there's plenty of 75-80 level players who like to roam the Battle Zones for nubbles, so stay in safe channels), but as you level and get good, you can do pretty much whatever you want. Since level 64 (granted everyone was lower than), I've done solo raids and whatnot, and usually never call on friends unless I'm outnumbered 2 or 3:1, if you're good you simply don't need to. Friends aren't required to play the game, but they do make it a whole lot better.

I played it. Having also done Freelancer on persistent multiplayer worlds, I'd much rather do Freelancer.

It's really quite bad, to be honest. I'm not just trolling, I played it quite a bit to get a feel for it. It's just very primitive, simple, and dated (even more than Freelancer, and that at least has some depth to it in comparison).

I guess if you're broke it is an option, but I really think it's extremely bad when compared to other free options. I give it a 2 out of 10. I reserve a 1 for games that make people die upon viewing them.

I would like to know how far you got before you decided on your opinion. Game doesn't truly open itself in its full glory until around level 50 (few days of grinding really if you're casual). This game is heavily PvP centered, if you didn't PvP, you can't really write an honest review (this includes wars, skirmishes, duels and major Nation v Nation battles).

Be sure to join BCU Prelude ;D

Prelude is the server, BCU is the nation to choose after the level 11 mission

^Obviously didn't read the thread.

Each gears play a role, whether or not that is defined as "roleplaying" is up to the person. Technically, the game is classified as a MMOFPS, although it's technically defaulted into third person INSTEAD of first, but you can change it to first if you want (don't :D), so I classify it as a MMOTPS xD

Also, there have been no character losses as far as I know since Space Cowboy in the popular versions of this game (AirRivals and ACE Online). All it is is the company splitting it into more localized versions, which is nice because it reduces lag :D

It is the exact same game as Space Cowboy, or at least it WAS. ACE Online has gone under huge expansions, and no it's not being constantly sold/re-bought. That has ONLY happened the one time with Space Cowboys. AirRivals is still up and running, but it's based in Germany so the Masang decided to open it in  North America as well, to accommodate the players here. The community is awesome, GM's go above and beyond their call of duty, PvP is unparralled to any game I've played, and there is currently no fear of this game being shut down. Just because it happened the one time, everyone assumes that it's going to happen again, instead of realizing that they are in the process of making the game global by hosting it in many different countries with more localized versions. ACE Online is located in Canada, and AirRivals is in Germany, SCO was I believe in California, so it's more a Homecoming instead of a "ZOMG TEHY SOLD TEH GAEM AGAIN Y PLAY????!!oneoneshiftone"

Just copy and pasted my reply to another post on this same subject:

The game just went under a huge expansion as of 2 days ago. It's still very buggy because the GM's actually ASKED the players if we wanted to help test it or just wait until the final, polished version. Naturally we all voted to test it early ;D

As per the game itself, it's a heavily skill based game. This is NOT your standard "Point, click, throw in some skills and move to the next guy" MMO. The actual avatar variety IS somewhat poor, I'd agree, but you're only not in your gear (plane) when you're in town, maybe 10% of your time. Unlike other MMO's, you control EVERYTHING you do. Altitude, strafing, barrel rolls, speed, boosts, you can even fly upside down if you turn off autobalance (though I recommend keeping it on for a bit while you get used to everything). The grind is made easier because the GM's introduced a 50% extra EXP bonus because they didn't want it to be so much a grind game.

But enough about the grind, that's the LEAST important portion of this game. This game is ALL ABOUT the PvP. The wars are amazing. There is so much strategy and skill involved when fighting someone else, that it far outdoes any other MMO I've ever played. The maneuverability offered in this game surpasses most, if not all, other MMO's I've even read about. I grant you that PvP is hard for the lower levels, depending on your "class" (in game known as "gear"), but as you war more (and warring should be done more then grinding as you level up, it's just way too much fun) and get better, the game in it's entirety will open itself to you. From Major Mothership Wars and Strategic Point Battles (both are nation vs. nation), to small skirmishes and raiding the opposing nation's maps (there are safe zones to grind in without fear of being pummeled by a high level raider), this game has more PvP Opportunities then you can shake a stick at.

The community is amazing. After all the versions of this game that I have played, this is by far the most helpful, fun, and talkative bunch I've found. The GM's are above and beyond any GM in ANY game I've ever played, hosting daily presents at 5:25 EST, as well as random events thrown in every few days or so, consistently. You won't go even one week without a GM event. Not only that, but many times the GM's will visit, answer questions, and just hang out with the player base to get a feel for how things are going.

I'm not someone who just played this game for a few days or hours, I've logged months into this game in all 3 versions and have experienced everything this game has to offer, and it's a 10/10.

To sum it up, if you want to PvP on a massive scale in a way that actually takes skill, and not simple point, click, and throw in skills, this game is for you. There are thousands of variants of items and hundreds of upgrades available, and best of all, it's NOT a Cash Shop based game. I haven't purchased a single thing and am still on par with those who buy a LOT. Granted my weapons are not QUITE as good, but the skill factor in this game far outweighs any amount of Cash Shopping.

And just a heads up, if you find "turning the planes" annoying, this game isn't for you. I never found it that hard to move my mouse left or right, while holding A or D for a sharper/wider turn all that hard.

Ever heard of a false positive? Obviously not. Ignore it and play.

While I don't show up in the level rankings, there IS like a 20 way tie for being level 80 at the moment, and I'm not sure how they determined who gets up there XD
