What is the point of this post? Is the OP trying to get other people not to play RiFT? Or is the OP wanting people to help change his mind? It doesn't matter to me if people play a game or nor but am wandering the purpose of making a post about how you not going to play a game. I just want to know what the goal of it is.

I found DCUO fun. I use the controller on PC version myself cause i find it easier since i played more action games on consoles then my pc and am use to it. I just think the control scheme will be so different to people who mainly play MMORPGs and they won't give it a real chance. MMORPGs fans always saying combat needs to be changed in every new MMO but they seem to like the old target and auto attack and hit hotbar keys combat more.

I will difinitely be playing this game for at least the free month cause I know I will enjoy it for that long. Rift will be playable Feb 24 for preorders so thats why i say one month for sure cause I may get RIFt.

The Star Wars IP especially in the KoTOR timeframe has me very interested and I'll probably play for that reason alone. However from what I have read on the game (and I'll admit I'm not really up to date) it seems as though it will cater mostly to the solo crowd, so I'll probably go into it with the mindset of it being another KoTOR RPG rather than a MMO. If it has similarly disappointing item-based endgame as what I've played already I'll most likely hit cap on a character or two and quit.

Its based 300 years after KOTOR 2. Each character or class gets their on story line which is cool. There is grouping and will be raids and PVP. Most all MMOs is solo or group based until you get max level and then players get into raids anyways. Well i usually push my limits on a new MMO and out level my friends so usually soloing anyways.

I do like Star Wars. I liked KOTOR. I like alot games Bioware puts out too. I like the focus on a story. Lots of reasons why i hyped for this.

The Rift invasion event around the end of beta was awesome. The CE has some nice in game items. It even has some real items. So I will most likely place a preorder on the CE too sometime in the near future.

As for that comment WSIMike, Arenanet dosen't have to follow the WoW footsteps, they got a groove all thier own and a non-stat (no int, str, or other trash) based system all in a buy - to - play system. I'm looking forward to the story continuing 250 years after Eye of the North, WoW so stall in the storyline that it makes me thankful they aren't planning a "World of Starcraft". Besides, I got sick of WoW's one side bias development, Horde horde horde.... I think I'll go join Mr Murphy at the Vomit Bar.

Arenanet kick Blizzards ass please like you did EQ.

LOL... Haven't there been enough "WoW killers" and the inevitable results, for people to realize that at this point the only threat to WoW is Blizzard itself?  GW's was a fun game, but it only managed a fraction of the players that WoW has.  GW2 does look like a great deal of fun, but lets be realistic.  Neither it, nor TOR nor Rift are going to be "WoW killers".  I'm personally looking forward to all of them.  I've no doubt if they are done right, that they will be successful, enjoyable games.  But "WoW killer"? Not going to happen.

Everquest 1,EQ 2, EVE and etc is still around too. Why do you expect WOW to be killed by any new game. WOW will lose subscribers when SWTOR comes out i bet but kill WOW no. There are no WOW killers but I dod expect even alot of WOW players are tired of WOW too and SWTOR has potential to pulll a decent amount of WOW players away of they pull it off. There is also a bunch of MMO players who don't like or play WOW around too. Blizzard plans WOW to be around another 4 years before their next MMO milk it as much as possible before their next MMO but no game kills another games only a bad MMO dies and servers gets shut down.

Game is sounding good. Hopefully no huge deleays before release unless it is really needed.

Crew system is cool since they can do stuff even when you are off line.

Space combat was actually added later which is why space combat isn't too great. Hopefully in the first expansion or a patch down the line they will add a more true space exploration and combat to game.

I think the only thing STO would even have on SWTOR is space combat and SWTOR will be better in almost every other aspect.

Actually the more I think about it, I'm not even sure this qualifies as a "MMO" considering what most people understand that term to be traditionally. Other than the part about "massively mulitplayer online", it's as many have said.. more an action game first and MMO second.

But then that would make FIFA or Halo a MMO as well, no? That's just too broad a definition anymore.

Sorry, but that is not correct. How is it that you get the name right, but the meaning wrong.  The meaning is in the name. Maasive Multiplayer Online. Halo is not an MMO.  It is simply multiplayer. Massive is defined by the size of the world and the large number of players in it.  MMO's are huge and have thousands of players all playing on the same server.  That's all.  An MMO can be any style of game.  Planetside was an MMO, but was more FPS. You replaced the wrong letters. DCUO is not a traditional MMORPG. It's the RPG that needed to be replaced, not the MMO.  Yes, it is more action based than most MMORPG's. For many people, that will not be a problem.

While I do feel that the game is fun, I think the OP is over stating quite a bit. The game still has a lot of ruff edges. There are things that could/should have been done better. But as I said, it's fun.  Hopefully it remains fun for the long term.

DCUO is a MMOARPG.(massively multiplayer online action rpg). There are other genres of MMOs too just more rare.

Did anyone post how horrible the graphics look b/c it does. I mean out of all the highly anticipated games coming out soon, SWTOR looks the worst. Skill animations look also pretty lame. Comparing it  to WOW's graphics, since it's so outdated now, I don't see that much of a difference. I mean other than it being Star Wars, I don't kno why so many people are so excited about this game, other than being Star Wars. Let's pretend this game wasn't Star Wars, would you be still so hyped about it. I kno hard it would be to forget the "Star Wars" part of it all but try very hard.

The graphics are not bad. Graphics aren't the only thing anyways. Its gameplay that makes or breaks MMOs. Don't play it if you need highest end graphics for every new game just don't expect that in too many MMOs. Developers tend to want their product to play on as many systems as possible.

I'm not hyped cause it is Star Wars. I'm hyped cause its Bioware. I did like the KOTOR games too but I like alot of Bioware games.

My take on gaming in general is that story and gameplay are very important to any game. Graphics are up there but don't have to be top of the line for me at least.

For years I have been arguing with people about the so called "end game content" in MMO's and here is the thing.  There is no such thing when a game is continued to be supported and they have updates.  The term you all are looking for is "high level content".  The term "end game content" would refer to the game being ended when you reach say lvl 30 and there is nothing else after that meaning you just beat the game.

Only MMO I can think of that has "end game" is GW and that's because you beat the game.  You can play back through and go through the same content but that is it once you beat the end of the game say Prophecies then you can either get the next game or just pick up another entirely differrent game.

All end game content in MMOs is the same. You run the same raid zones. You run the same dungeons. You PVP in the same areas. You level up alts. They add new content rinse and repeat. New games are now starting to add achievements to give people something to work on while they are doing the same stuff over and over.

No subscription fees so as long as its decent not many people should be complaining. Only reason I will get this game is the no subscriptions ever thing. More hyped for SWTOR though personally.

I just plug my PS3 controller in the PC and play the game fine. Its action game so controllers are way better. The price is the same price as every other new game. I can pay 60 bucks for a single player game I can beat in 8 hours or less. Single player RPGs are longer play time I know. I believe DCUO will be one those games I can unsubscribe if i get bored and resubscribe at later date and just jump back into easy. The game has so much room to grow too and improve. I playing it cause its different and its based off DC Universe because I'm a huge Batman fan. I know I will get my money worth for 2-3 months at least better value than most games in general.

No, he obviously isnt, he is obviously just saying that this game in particular dosent warrant the cost.

Just wait until he realises that SOE have most likely stripped a lot of the core game he think is missing to stick in the cash shop lol.. wait till you see what he think then, when he is charged extra for that content ON TOP of the sub :P

SOE only sticks cosmetic stuff in their shop. Not stuff that effects gameplay.

If a game have subscription it shouldn't have an item shop. There is no excuse. Is not 15$ enough for soe now? And peoples asking for a lower sub. Yeah right.

Exactly, all these "cosmetic stuff" should be included in sub as ingame items (I still think sub is too high, but with item shop, its ridiculous).

Ya agree the cash shop is stupid and lame but if it doesn't effect gameplay I can deal with it. I enjoyed EQ 2 so I am use to it i guess. But if i can get a month or 2 enjoyment or until i get bored out of a MMORPG its worth the price when you look at new game prices that you can beat in a few days. I thinking DCUO will be a MMO i can leave for months resubscribe at later date and jump back into and have fun cause its not the typical MMORPG. I just waiting for SWTOR and need something to kill time.

Was DAOC if it was out can"t remember if it was or was EQ 1 either or both.

I really didn't execpt to like this game when I downloaded the beta.  I was pleasently suprised.  It was fun.    It's action oriented and overall a pretty good game with a decent PvP expeirience.    The problem is it's just not good enough for my to pay what they are asking.  I would shell out 49.99 for the "box" but I wouldn't pay a monthly fee.  OR I would pay 9.99 a month if the client was free to download.   But 49.99 for the client and the expected 14.99 a month is just to much.    I seriously think price is going to be the downfall of this game.

Huh? this is the standard price of MMORPGS in P2P model. Are you new to MMOS?

The game itself is worth the price of a single player game so teh up front price doesn't even bother me. Get the first month free to play online too. I think its fun enough that I at least can play a month or 2 cancel and pick it up again down the line anytime. Its action MMO and its that type of game. I plan on picking up another MMORPG when it releases anyways so wll use this game as a time killer and have fun doing it.

The End for MMOs

I dont understand why people say the quest in WoW are extremely well done.  I'm seeing this all over the place now adays.

When i first leveled in WoW 4-5 yeras ago it was go kill 10 boars or rapters over and over again.  I had no problem with this, and actually enjoyed it.  But thats certainly not a well written quest.

Today they have quests like jump in this car or vehicle and bomb these guys over there. Or go pick up your girlfriend in your motercycle and shoot lasers at people.  Is that what people really consider a good quest? This is whats considered innovative?  B/c i call that boring and it seems like its deisnged for a bunch of teenagers.  Not to mention phasing.  Sure its cool for the quests but you may as well be playing a single play game.  There could be somoene standing right next to you but you'll never see them b/c your in a different instance then them.

Me neither. And i can't understand why WOW quests are hyped so much. I still think that FFXI had some of the best quests in MMO genre.

WOW quests are hyped because its WOW and we all know WOW is best at doing the same old crap found in other MMOs. I'm tired of quests, hot bar combat, the races and classes found in MMORPGs so going back to WOW cause it doesn't have any of those things or wait yes it does.

Just being sarcastic but seems to me like some people are burnt out on MMORPGS in general and need to take a break or find a new genre.

Every game Past,Present, and Future is a WOW clone!

I thinking alot of people need to find a new genre beside MMORPGs. Seem alot yall are tired of whats makes a MMORPG a mmoRPG. Bitch about how its like other games and you don't like those features but are playing a game with those some of those same features at same time. All MMORPGs are similar enough old and new that the every new games rips off another game argument is total bull crap.

Take the most popular game on market right now which is WOW. They took features from the games before it and improved them where they could and added a few new features and people were happy. Now take any new MMORPG that tries to do the same thing now a days and you get WOW fans saying its a clone of WOW no matter if any new features are added or improved and yet they still play WOW.

MMORPGs are similar in alot their features but different in their world and story just like alot of single player RPGs are.

Nope!

GW2 might be decent, other than that, the rest are loaded with negatives.

SWTOR - is just Wow in space.  It might be fun initially, but it has the exact same problems as Wow does.

TERA - is just another Korean game in a long line of failures to port to the west.  The player caricatures are ridiculous, the weapons and armor also.

Rift - cute idea, but lacking content.  Expect to be bored within the first month.

DC Universe - another in a line of hero games that many of us have no interest in.  Will do ok, but it differs little from the competition.

Reams of f2p games, most pay to win, none have any content to speak of and usually are major grindfests.

Why is it so hard to drop the dumb level/class system and use a skill based one?  The only place you ever find a class/level system is in MMO's.   Why don't these developers understand we are bored silly with this dumb design, how about something different.

GW2 is one time buy and no subs which is all good if it is half way good.

SWTOR looks good. And i just knew someone would say SWTOR is WOW in space lol! Stories should be part of mmoRPG. Bioware is one of the best companies so high hopes.

Rift looks good. Suppose to have 10 normal and 10 expert dungeons at launch. A 10 man raid zone and a 20 man raid zone at launch. Thats a decent amount end game content if its in.

DCUO is fun. Action MMO with superheroes. Will be able to log in and jump in and have some fun. MMORPGs tend to like the action toned down and slower though so not for everyone.

Blizzard can milk the hell out their WOW fans. I am a Blizzard fan but would not buy an older MMO where i must pay for every expansion seperately. Most companies would have packaged most if not all of the expansions and main game together by now to make it a better buy for new customers. I just feel sorry for WOW people who decided to get another account or 2.
