Unidentified Craft in Calypso Airspace!

Here, kid. I know it's summer and school is out, so let me spell check that post. I'm afraid you get an "F" anyway. "Make sure your credit card is as big as your gun because you are going to shoot $100 bills like [unintelligble]" And you're right, there isn't a lot of activity here, mostly because there are a couple of much more active forums for the game without trolls or kids that don't understand that while the game *can* be played for free, it is designed for players to put some funds in, just like so many other MMMOs out there. Meanwhile, I'll be enjoying the game, you can go play maplestory or jerk the gherkin. |

Unidentified Craft in Calypso Airspace!
General Discussion « Entropia Universe 8/05/09 5:12:31 PM
Several independent witnesses reported mysterious contrails over the skies of Calypso around noon today. The objects causing the contrails quickly crossed over the skies and disappeared. On one occasion, pictures were taken of the objects that were described as “disc-shaped flying crafts”. Nobody seems to know about the origin of the flying discs, and if they do, they remain silent. Space Watch has not reported any objects closing on to Calypso. The Federal Imperial Navy denies any testing of undisclosed jets in Calypso’s upper atmosphere. A telling sign is that as the rest of us speculate of government conspiracies or coming invasions, CDF’s only response is that they are investing the incident and urges the public to remain calm. I for one intend to welcome our new alien overlords...with the biggest gun I can carry!

They're also available as embedded vids on entropiagateway.com I'd rather hoped the last posted mini-teaser would have been more... well... kickass. Nice to know the developers lurve us all though. :)

Version Update 10 now in (internal) testing phase
General Discussion « Entropia Universe 6/26/09 10:47:57 AM
My guess would be that with the July vacation for the bulk of the MA & fpc staff, both 9.x and 10.0 get frozen where they are, save for any unplanned emergency fixes. Then, when vacation is over 9.x stays frozen, testing and minor tweaking continues on 10.0 for a release mid to late August. |

Do you have to spend money to have fun?
General Discussion « Entropia Universe 6/03/09 11:10:12 PM
Hey Baldy,
If you see folks standing around in the New Arrival zone with anything other than rags on, chances are they are there to help new folks out. Try chatting them up in public chat and you'll likely get a response.
Also, during business hours for Europe, Simon or Emma, the Official Guides are often there. Look for the gold star above their heads. I'll be happy to answer questions here on this forum, or over on entropiaforum.com
Thanks!

So why don't all the skill lovers and level "haters" don't play EU? Is it the RL cash thingy?

Some of these examples were players leaving game, some merely selling off surplus skills or inventory.
This is not to say that everyone in game makes a profit, not by any means. It does say that the game is different from your run of the mill FPS. |

Sorry gang, just seen one too many "tHis gAmE SuXoRs" laments to have much sympathy. If the reasons cited had more to do with bugs or problems with the actual game mechanics rather than the economic model, I'd have probably been a bit more tactful in my response. |

Again, some of these posts make it apparent that they were looking for a free money machine, or by the "money sink" comments, couldn't stick to a reasonable budget for their gaming and got themselves into financial straits. Perhaps they need their head examined or take a refresher course in high school business math. Perhaps the complexities of a game with the in-game currency closely tied to RL funds eludes them. Should you decide to quit, liquidate the skills on your avatar as well as selling off your inventory and wind up with more than 1000 PED in cash (100 USD) on your avatar, you can withdraw those funds. In other words, the company will send you a check or direct deposit the amount into your bank account. I'd like to hear of a monthly fee game that'll do that! LOL NO, you won't get back the money you spent on ammo, mind essence, etc... but Entropia is a game that it's possible to do some things in without spending, putting in the same amount that you would for monthly fee games, or spend your lottery winnings in. It's up tpo the player, and your account keeps going even if you don't put anything in in a given month like the subscription games. As with any place with cool stuff, there is the temptation to spend. In a RCE game like this, research is crucial to avoid wasting money. Get the minimum weapon that matches avatar skills. Get armor that provides reasonable protection for the noob mobs, and not because it looks cool. There are dedicated forums, and even a really nice wiki out there that can help a player determine a reasonable equipment loadout, which mobs to try and take on, strategies for sweating mobs (yes, ot does take a long time to accrue PED by sweating. AGAIN, there ain't no free money! In Entropia, it's up to the player to decide how much the level of entertainment is worth to them. If they can't get any satisfaction here, there's always Maplestory.

Entropia Universe: Gathering Teleporters
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/14/09 10:48:30 AM
Contrary to Longsnouts... critique of Entropia Universe, there is plenty of fun to be had! Currently, there is a participant art exhibition gong on in-game at the New Oxford Instituts of Fine Arts. Over 40 colonists of Planet Calypso have put their works up for other to enjoy- at no cost. A new streaming radio station- Atlas Haven Radio, has recently launched. Programming includes a wide array of music types, as well as a scheduled newscast and breaking news reports. Again, this is free! Atlas Haven Radio often hosts a variety of contests during special events, often with pretty nice prizes! An exarasaur hunting contest, perfect for thise relatively new to the planet!
Many naysayers of the game simply don't understand one fundamental difference between Entropia and other MMORPGS, namely the Real Cash Economy. The in-game economy is tied to the RL one, meaning that that your cash in-game has a real world value. Because of this crucial difference, it's sheer fantasy to think a new player will become an uber PK juggernaut in 2 weeks time and not depositing any funds. It is possible to play the game without deposting, but as with anything else in life, don't expect lots for free. Sure, gathering vibrant sweat is time consuming and can result in death. Again, expecting a free money machine is unrealistic. However, unlike some games, reviving costs nothing, and all your stuff takes the ethereal journey with you back to the revive terminal. Also unlike many games, If you have over 1000 PED of accrued net worth on your avatar and decide to quit, you can liquidate those assets in-game, execute an in-game withdrawal, and THE COMPANY WILL SEND YOUR MONEY BACK TO YOU! YOU WON'T GET THAT IN ANY MONTHLY FEE GAME! Other current happenings in game include: An attack by robot forces on various locations on planet. Coded robot messages have been intercepted and decrypted by volunteers in the player community. These messages give some clues as to what the robots are up to, and where colonists militia forces can deploy to counter their attack. An upcoming fashion show on Club NeverDie So, there's plenty to see and do on planet!
For those of you that do try the TP run in the article, I'd strongly suggest NOT making the run alone! Check with the Official Guides (Simon and Emma, they have stars over their heads!) at the New Arrival Zone at Port Atlantis. Ask if they know of a TP run being organized. Often there are seasoned players at the NAZ, and they may assist you in a TP run to some of all of the teleporters. Be warned, it IS a long walk, so be prepared for an extended session if you're planning to add more than a few TPs to your map in any given session! Another noteworthy destination for newcomers that isn't on the charted course presented in the article is the Port Atlantis sweat camp, located a bit Northwest of Port Atlantis. Newcomers often congregate here in order to collect vibrant sweat, distributing the risk of attack across their number instead of taking on creatures 1 on 1 and certainly invoking their ire. Healers often practice here also, patching up the damaged at no cost while raising their own skills in the healing arts.
Cheers! AG |

After a few viewings, I have to say that the landscape photo of the waterway is my favorite. It was hard to pick a favorite though, and Jamhots entry did really strike my funnybone. Still does, actually. :) |
|
|
I dropped by the exhibition with several members of Dragons Shadow yesterday. There are about 40 entrants in ranging from abstracts to photogtaphy. I found the piece by Jamhot to be the most entertaining of the lot. Anyone that's been around an ad screen has no doubt heard Mark Kostabi instructing potential students to draw two figures, each with a telephone.... LOL As with any art show, my reactions ranged from "Huh?" to "Wow!" :) AG |

General Discussion « Entropia Universe 4/24/09 1:23:32 AM
From kirbays one other post (welcome to mmorpg!) he seems to be on Vista. Here's something from the planet calypso FAQ. Lets see if it helps...
When installing Entropia Universe on a Windows Vista machine, please make sure that you run the application by right clicking the Entropia Universe Installer icon, and choosing Run as administrator. This is because the Windows Vista UAC (User Account Control) limits the privileges of applications for security reasons. If the application at some point will not start, or you are unable to update the application in Windows Vista, always try running the Entropia Universe application using the above method before contacting Entropia Universe Support, because the software is updated on a regular basis. |

Do you have to spend money to have fun?
General Discussion « Entropia Universe 4/19/09 5:40:06 PM
Good data icytear! Agreed, it's pretty unlikely to become uber for free, but how many games offer the chance at all, combined with the possibility of getting some fnds back if you do decide to quit? Nevertheless, there are fun things to do for free in Entropia. The mentor thing is important to know, because there are some predatory types out there that will swoop in on noobs sign them up as a disciple, then dissapear never to be seen again. If the disciple doesn't ick the mentor in a few days, they wil be essentially handcuffed together till the disciple has enough skill to graduate, then the deadbeat mentor gets a prize with real cash value for no effort. In Entropia, it's good to do some homework before starting. Here are two ways, I'm sure there are others. The largest forum for the game, entropiaforum.com has lots of information for newcomers. Before others weigh in on the subject of that forum, be aware that entropiaforum is privately held, unaffiliated with MindArk or First Planet Corp, yet has rules prohibiting much in the way of saying anything other than Entropia is the greatist thing since sliced bread. Even with that policy in place, there is a huge amount of data to pull from, and lots of friendly people. Another great resource for newcomers is Alices guide, located here in PDF form.

Easter Bunny visits, Eomon to follow!
General Discussion « Entropia Universe 4/17/09 10:48:02 AM
Colonist reports coming in now, Eomon are indeed on the migration path. No official statements have been released yet. Initial reports show these giant beasts can currently be found between East Scylla Mountains and Twin Peaks.

Unfortunately 1300 is in the middle of my work day so I probably won't be able to pay much attention to the session in realtime. I'll keep an eye out for the transcropt.

IIRC, the migration path starts someplace east of Twin Peaks and the herd winds up at the big crater north of Camp Echinda over the course fo 2 weeks. I'm pretty sure they follow the same path annually. Either big guns, or lots of little ones! I have heard rumors of hoardes of oplao shooters taking one out, but I suspect they were amped. |

Easter Bunny visits, Eomon to follow!
General Discussion « Entropia Universe 4/13/09 11:38:18 AM
Ah springtime on Calypso. The warm weather returns, and the wind wafts in the smell of... Pheremones? With the conclusion of the "Cargo Ship Full of 'Energized Bunnies'" Easter event drawing to a close and many Colonists happily hugging their new stuffed animal prizes, there ae reports that the annual migration of Eomon and Longtooth Exarosaurs will follow soon. I was able to loot a couple of the wascally wabbits. In the spirit of the season I passed them for others to enjoy... as one was to me before I managed to find any in my loot window. :) Suprisingly enough, it seems that our old nemesis, the Robots had an interest in these mechanical analogs of genus lepus. Advanced generation Warlock 'bots and Eviscerators were spotted and engaged by voluteers from the most powerful Societies on planet near the East Scylla Mountains teleporter terminal. To the North of the same teleporter, colonists encountered other seldom seen robot models such as Defenders, Legionares and Droka. Once again, Calypso held fast and repelled the robot hordes. Meanwhile, The Entropia Gateway is reporting that the increased pheremone levels in the atmosphere is an indicator that the Eomon and Longtooth migrations are likely to start winthin a week or so. This migration usually lasts for 2 weeks as these walking leviathans travel from their winter home to their breeding grounds. As always hunters both human and carnivore are expected to be encountered in large numbers along the migration path.
