What is it that draws you to this game?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 6/01/08 4:30:29 PM
Well to be honest from what little I've read it's not idiot-centric. Meaning it doesn't appear to be the run of the mill dumbed down for the lowest common denominator of person that doesn't want to think to play a game. It's not WoW-trailer park.

I recently caught the tail end of the Vet trial,,, I guess that's what it was. I downloaded the 7 day trial and made a toon on it and started playing, but when I had logged off so my daughter could do some work on the game we're creating she saw the swg icon and logged in to my old toon thinking I had reactivated our old account, low and behold it was active. --Well active for about 5 days.
I played on Naritus server, I played probably 4 months before the beginning of the jedi/village quests and to about 4 months afterwards. Anyway, Back in the day I was a Master Commando/Master TK/ and everything else left over was in Artisan. I loved having people pay me to go scout planets for the mineral of the week and send back the waypoints. With my Commando and TK training it was exceptionally easy to defend myself, and with my custom made flamethrower from Dy-nod and my Exo-NeoComp Armor with 90 resists well lets just say there wasn't much I couldn't drop in a few shots.
I also liked the Force Sensitive quests, although they were long and tedious, grinding out combat xp and crap, the fact that you actually did something besides just grind professions I enjoyed. Most of the time I just kept doing what I was doing, scouting planets, working my "adopt a newbie" program, and hunting critters for their skins because I was always getting orders for hides just like scouting for minerals. I made a good name for myself as a scout I do think.
Anyway back to what this is about. Logging back into Naritus for the first time in years I found the landscape 100% different. All the old cities were long gone and in their place were different cities. One of my favorite shopping venues the "Mos Quito" mall was still there, but the cities name was different, and the mall was crap. Whomever took it over didn't have what the previous owners had as far as an idea of quality. The same for the mall by Theed, it was like the trading hub for our server.
The player vendors I shopped at the most were gone. I think, I had waypoints to their personal vendors and they were gone, but I was still finding Dy-Nod items for sale here and their, for tons cheaper than what they were pre-nge. I guess since there were so few people you price your stuff for whatever you can get.
There were still tons of cities, rarely did it look like they had been planned out like it was previously, they looked like someone just started dropping houses, manufacturing/harvesting machines just where ever there was space. My guild and it's city was long gone, the city hall and guild hall were gone, but many houses still remained and slated for demolition by the empire.
In my friends list was the name of every guild member and while I played I noticed 2 log on, but they never replied to mails or tells and were never on long, maybe 15 or 20 minutes that I ever noticed. The big thing that I disliked the most about this was that during the entire time I played, and with the exception of seeing 2 of my old guildies names light up, I only ever saw 5 other people in the course of 5 days. 4 were afk, and 1 was a jedi who thought he was being a badass and sent me a tell saying "you're welcome". I was experimenting with the different classes and had just respec'd to a jedi and got caught and flagged by an Empire npc.(Rebel here) I just zoned into the starport and noticed a player that wasn't afk so I hit the force run and flew past him.
I thought about picking a fight with him, back in the day I would've destroyed him, again as this was a jedi I had beaten once before when he thought he was a badass and tried to gank me while doing Rebel terminal missions. But this new setup and the fact that my best weapons vanished out of my inventory and all my good armor was gone as well the only weapons I had was what the game gave me when I respec'd and well that crap is crap.
I just shrugged it off and said whatever and went on about my day. I didn't accomplish anything, I discovered that jedi and smuggler are easier to level with than other classes IMHO. I started a new toon over so I could get a feel and tried some of the diferent professions. Except entertainer, I don't like that one.
Smuggler gets an awesome AOE attack and well it was easier to lvl than even a jedi once I got that attack at lvl 6 I think it was.
Anyway, it's a shell of a game that it once was, even on the Europe-Chimera server which had a heavy server load and that's the server I made my new toons for testing on I rarely ever saw anyone that wasn't afk. I don't get what the afk is, I guess maybe just fanbois that log their toons in support of the bastardization of the game, but they're actually playing something else? I dunno.
In closing, I don't understand what SOE thought they were going to accomplish by changing the game like they did, but in all honesty they should just shut it down.
I've played every MMO out except for a few of the asian games, and those few asian games I've played have sucked hard. But in my experience to date, everything SOE touches, sucks. I'll never play another SOE game again, just like I will NOT play anything with the EAxis logo on it.
Goodnight Naritus, and I'm sorry.

I'm tired of dumbed down trailer park trash games. I want depth and complexity, everything WoW and the current generation and games that have come out in the last few years, aren't.
I like high but fair learning curves, it keeps the idiots away. I like 100% player driven economies, it keeps the idiots away. I like strategic thinking, it keeps the idiots away. |

I want Shadowrun, Cyberpunk, or Rifts as far as games being based on an already existing IP.
Although If I could have any sci-fi game it would be one based off my system which is ready to go, just need finances and programmers. |

Why should you play Eve? Because you have to go use the bathroom, and that 10 jump trip you're getting ready to take is going to take an hour and you REALLY REALLY have to go make an offering to the porcelain god. Then you can go make a sandwich, finish some homework if you have it. Kiss on your significant other a bit, and the come back and dock.
I played the game for a month, and what I found is if it weren't for the community I'd have quit the game after a week. But I didn't buy the game for a visual and pretty chat room, I bought the game for the game.
Also, being a family man my daughter couldn't make her own toon. Well she could but it was crippled if my toon was training. Which is a stupid way to do things but hey I'm sure CCP would rather bilk you out of more cash for a second account than be family friendly. |

EA Mythic and Blizzard are the only truly quality mmo gaming companies out there
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 5/31/08 3:50:13 PM
That's like saying Microsoft is the only company that can produce quality products. Or that the Dallas Cowboys are the only ones that can win superbowls.
Other companies can, and have done better. (subscriptions doesn't mean quality, look at windows as a good example)
Subscription numbers, yes WoW has a metric shit ton of subscribers, but I think the game sucks. I did play it, I played for a long time. I played it because it was simple, it was easy, and there was nothing else to do at the time because I had a craptastic computer which brings me to my next point of that WoW will run on nearly anything. That's what I hate about the game, it's the trailer park trash of games.(other than the fact it runs on anything, that's a good thing.) Stupidly simple.
I hate anything branded EA. I hate the fact that if they run across competition the first thing they do is "acquire" them and/or destroy them. They destroyed Westwood when they acquired them, the Command and Conquer series used to be something I looked forward to. I can honestly say that their is a distinct difference in quality in Westwood games since EA got their stranglehold on them. I could go on but the fanbois will flame me just for having a difference of opinion.
Enjoy. |

Helping would be stating "have you tried restarting the game" which I had done, but didn't state so. That would've been passable. Helping would be "Have you checked to see if the issue is on other toons?" Which I had done but didn't state so.
Helping would be "Is it like this in all zones, maybe it's just an issue with the current zone?" Which I did check and it's only in St. Martial and Grandville.
But like you did, they didn't bother to comprehend what was typed out in the original post. Questions like the above 3 are considered help, asking questions that have ALREADY BEEN ANSWERED is not help, that's just being stupid and for now on is going to get you reported for harassment/flaming, at least on the CoH forums.
On thesse forums you have to actually do something wrong to get in trouble. <modedit> |

Something else to keep in mind is that some MoBs at later levels are resistant to certain kinds of damage. All MM pets with the exception of Bots do Lethal and Smashing damage (with the exception of a -few- attacks from tier 2 and 3 pets). While Bots do energy and to a lesser extent smashing damage.
Then look at AOE abilities, some pets, like ninjas do crazy damage on one MoB at a time, and can technically out damage a Bot, however a full team of Ninja pets can't kill a full even con spawn of MoBs as fast as 3 drones with the full auto upgrade. However those ninjas can take down a boss better than those drones can. Add in the other 3 members of the Bot crew and well there raw damage output is phenomenal when it comes to bots.
Uhh, I forgot where I was going with this at 3.30am lol, sorry not trying to sound like a fanboi about bots, I like the Thug set as well, just can't make myself level my Thugs MM because I want my first veat.
The problem with a Bots MM however comes from the lack of having to micromanage them, you WILL get bored. My "main" I made back when CoV was launched, and it's just now 46, I've leveled 20+ other toons and tore through hero side but I've yet to get my first and main toon to 50 because I seriously get bored. He's a bots/ff. Only thing that really gets through my bubbles is psy damage. |

Sometimes I love people, no seriously.
I recently started having an issue where on my villain it was showing hero difficulty levels. Like instead of villainous it would be heroic, and my missions were randomly changing difficulty. One mission the mobs would spawn like they were set for villainous, the next mission it was set at maximum.
I made a post that explained it, gave some background that I had been running on the second to hardest setting since lvl 32. I play a Bots/FF MM so most folks that play a MM know that you get your final upgrade at 32 and you become a death machine, especially with Bots.
I got a reply from a guy that started asking questions I had already answered and fully detailed in my OP. I replied back nicely at first. He replied back again asking questions that had nothing to do with my issue, like what was my level and asking questions that had already been answered. I was a little less nice this time because he didn't need to know my level to know my missions were spawning randomly in difficulty.
The third time I got upset, and I posted this -- censored = ass I was NOT going to keep answering questions that I had answered already if he'd just read the freakin' OP.
Another person came on and tried to explain what he was getting at, and I replied that if he had bothered to read my OP, he (the second poster) wouldn't have needed to have come to defend the other guy. 2 of my posts were later deleted out of the thread. I mean we can't have anyone telling someone to pay freaking attention to what's being said, I mean that would be common sense to pay attention.
I got banned for replying to the second person because I was talking rudely about the first person.
So I guess the fact that people are so freaking lazy and ass tarded they can't comprehend the written word anymore is cause enough to cry and get someone banned. I think for now on anytime anyone says something I don't like I'm going to report them as well. Especially the stupid morons that ask questions repeatedly here and on the game's forums I like to play when 90% of the time the OP has answered the questions but ass-hats refuse to freaking read the damn posts.
sigh, ah well. Neither here nor there, people are thick and always will be.
I was bored, had to rant. Delete if you want mods. And of course this is just my side, I'm sure someone will come on here and say I'm not telling the whole story and that's fine, I'll just report you for flaming. |

Originally posted by ShoalWoW was, well to put it bluntly, fucked up at launch, basing it's launch success just on the number of people playing is stupid. Multiple server crashes, login issues that lasted months, falling through the landscape, I could go on for hours with WoW's issues at launch. However I'd be willing to bet you're one of those fanboi types that can't find fault in anything related to WoW.
As for the others they did Ok. LoTRO was most definately the best out of the list you have there, however again I state the current generation of gamers saddens me greatly because your knowledge of games flatly sucks. Most people like yourself think those are the only MMO games to have ever come out, and the few of you that do acknowledge older games, like UO never even touched it but think because it's old and has sorry graphics it must suck.
However UO's launch did suck. It was however the first true MMORPG, and everything it did was a testbed for every game to follow. So every step they took was new and when you do something totally new you're bound to screw up. |

Age of Conan is a failure, I sure hope SGW isnt making the same mistakes...

Originally posted by TalynNot the crafting community, other players who are getting the good drops that he's wanting himself, or so he can sell his own drops.
What people like him fail to see though, is that they ARE being dependent on others. They're dependent on others buying their crap, and buying other peoples crap.
The only difference in this is the computer "crafts" the item instead of a player. And what's funny about this type of person is they're usually the first to go off on the MMO definition of a game, but they want to gimp a good portion of the audience because they don't like crafting. They want lots of people to play, but in the end only as long as they're like minded people.
It's ok though, I've done my research on SGW and I can honestly say that there is NOT enough info floating around ATM to make a judgement on how this game is going to work out. I do however have a sinking feeling just by the way games are being churned out over the last few years that it will be nothing but yet another grind fest that I'll play for a few months, then cancel because it was designed with the trailer park mentality of "we can't make it to complicated, not everyone has gradyated the 5rd graed".

Earth and Beyond, no server crashes, no lag and no client crashes. Only issues they had was a trading exploit that allowed people to mass mad amounts of money and trade xp on a 1 jump trade run.
Well at least on my server, and I played on the most populated server at launch.
This newest generation of gamers sadden me greatly. |

Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning: Crafting Details
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/30/08 8:38:10 AM
I'm a crafter through and through, it makes me happy to know that some young rogue/druid/leather wearer and vet leather class in whatever game wears my armor. (I've always, in every game stuck with crafting leather based goods, light armor and droids in SWG.)
It does however sadden me that the crafting in the newest games is being made as an afterthought, and being dumbed down so that the lowest common denominator of idiot can make the best shit available that a crafter can make, no thought and no skill involved. SWG's crafting was the best ever, you had to use some thought and if you weren't dedicated you failed. It was a bit hard to grasp at first but ah well neither here nor there now.
My problem with games now days though at least as far as crafting goes, it the fact that why even bother to make shit when the average drop is better than anything you make? Seriously why bother?
