They said....

"How do we figure out how to make the Star Trek IP fit the type of game we're familiar with making."

Therein lies the problem as far as I see it.

This is truth.

I'm pretty sure when the guy says this is for new players that this info would be good for new players, how about READING before opening your traps. Also these guys never put everything in one post, which irritates me but as usual it's quite obvious he'll put more down later.

Irritating yes, but geeze you all need to stop freaking out over stupid stuff. Or just go back to playing wow and flashing your epeens at your epic knowledge.

An important aspect of EVE is that it is a sandbox game.  Given time and persistence there is almost nothing you can't do.

My advice would be to set some goals for yourself and work toward them.  Figure out a short term goal or two and start on those, but as soon as you can define some longer term goals as well.  If all you have to do ingame is shoot at rats, run missions, and mine you most likely will find yourself losing interest in the game again.

So, what would you like to do?  Become an infamous pirate?Providing one of the 1000s of pirates that have been playing years longer than you don't blow your shit up every 30 seconds.  Lead an influential 0.0 corp?Well, only if any of the other corps in 0.0 that have been around years longer with tons more members don't decide to tear you a new one.  Corner the market in interspacial widgets? Provided that none of the other 1000s of players that have been playing years longer than you decide to let you do that to start with.

Whatever you decide what you would like to do tomorrow will help define what you need to do today.

Unlike other games you can NEVER catch up in Eve. What this means is that folks that have been playing longer than you will have access to more shit, and be able to be more effective in more shit then you will be. Trying to specialize is a good idea, but when joe blow from down the row can jump into nearly any ship and still tear you a new one no matter how good you are in your one ship thanks to all the extras they've trained in over the years, well that's just not any fun.

The game is great, well besides the fact it's the only game I can go take a shit while on auto-pilot and come back and still not be at my destination.

The biggest problem is, all the players that have been around years longer will always, ALWAYS be at more of advantage than you. Even if you bought a metric shit ton of ISK from a farmer because the way skills work you'll always be at a disadvantage. There will never be a way for you to compete unless you run across someone who's totally incompetent.

You MUST join a corp, bow to their wishes, and hope like hell you ain't just there to keep a chair warm for someone else.

I will say however that the community on a whole is by far the best I've ever seen. The game is flawless in functional design (bugginess, lag and shit like that doesn't exit) and their tech support is by far the best ever.

Don't bother reading these forums. Or any forums where the website's forums are not just about Warhammer Online.

The people who mainly post here have a tendancy to be negetive - the people who actually enjoy the game (yes, more people like it than hate it) are busy playing the game, not posting.

If you want opinions or want to share ideas or praise, take your time and thoughts/questions elsewhere.

No forums will be safe from rabid fanbois, or the rabid hatebois.

Wait for a free trial, or buddy key and give it a shot yourself. DO NOT BUY IT BLINDLY.

I LIKE TATER TOTS!! HAHA

Can you spell, sarcasm?

If you say so.

I do say so, because that's exactly what happened.

56 hours later, got it.

I wonder if that says something about the game.........

I've tried to sign up for the free trial. But I'm not recieving my acctivation codes. I've put in my email several times and hit "resend" several times, also tried contacting support but I always get a message saying they're currently not available.

I was thinking maybe it has somethign to do with the fact I'm using a yahoo email account. There was one other game years ago that you had to use a pop3 email account or some such non-sense, not one of the third party types like yahoo, gmail etc. Is that the case?

I still can't convince myself to spend 2 bucks just to give the game a try.

It's slow

It's slow

It's slow

Uhh,, since when?

It's ALWAYS worked reliably and accurately for me, and pretty much everyone I know that has used it and told me "thanks" bleah bleah etc etc.

Maybe you just don't understand it, /shrugs.

Neither here nor there.

Can you run it?   <--clicky

Just uninstall the burning crusade and you are back to the original WoW.

No, wrong.

First your game won't run. Once you've purchased and activated TBC on your account not having it installed will make your game not work.

Second whether you own the expansion or not all the changes made by the expansion STILL effect your game.

Third most of the people that I know that want to go back to "old school" whatever want this because of the changes to most of the raids. Changes that are still in effect even if you don't own the TBC expansion. See  the above. (raid changes aren't my reasons, and this obviously doesn't apply to everyone that might want a roll back of sorts)

Fourth ****put something extremely rude here and apply it to yourself****

I'd go for that. It will never happen though.

Yeah, you didn't take it back. It's an MMO. Its a computer game, period. Stores don't take them back anymore.

Also, what exactly is this thread for? More unconstructive b.s.?

This needs to be locked.

Why do people always say this....

You CAN take a pc game back to a store. There have been about 6 threads on this single topic several times in the last few months here on MMORPG. It has been proven with out a shadow of a doubt that you CAN take pc games back to the store and get full cash refunds.

Some of these means may be dis-honest at times, but it is possible to do so.

If the guy says he took his game back, he more than likely did. You can't prove he didn't so do not call him a liar.

Here's the facts, technically no pc software is supposed to be retrunable. Every time someone takes software back to a store and is able to return it, the store is breaking the law.

Some stores, like my local Gamestop, will NOT take software back, under any circumstances unless it is to exchange it for a like item. Which is odd because there's another gamestop down the road that takes returns like Wal-Mart. Which brings me to another point, the Wal-Mart closest to me won't take software returns of any kind, regardless of whether it's for like items and if you bitch about it they'll have security escort you out. While another Wal-Mart a little further away will take anything back, even a pair of shoes that's 6 months old, smells like warmed over tuna as long as you give them even a retarded excuse.

Technically, software is NOT returnable once opened (also depending on wording, even if its not opened its not returnable) unless exchanged for a like item.

So folks that insist that it's not returnable may live in an area where their retailers actually obey the law.

Also, in the beginning, these gold selling companies would give money to the Mmo owners as cutbacksthe term is "kickbacks" for such big business...and it is big business, whatever the moral issue is.

Times are hopefully changing in the western style mmo and maybe they'll stick to the asian grinders, though it'll be a while 'til, if ever. we see that.

This "war" can be won when the devs actually start fighting it. When it no longer becomes profitable for the gold sellers to continue then they'll stop. For every account that gets banned they'll have to either buy a new box, which costs money, or get on a trial. If WAR does to trial accounts that WoW and CoX has done that won't do the gold sellers any good. They'll be so crippled they'll never make enough gold to sell.

If they have to continuosly buy a new account every time they get banned, that is directly cutting into their profits, no profits, then leave to find another game. 49.99$ every ban, awesome. (at least for the first 6 months then the game will hit 19.99, at least thats how things usualy work around here)

Get fucking ban happy is all I gotta say. It WILL stop the gold selling.

Blizzard's massive blow was to "peonsforhire" and it didn't help because they won't go after any of the rest of them. The thing about fighting a "war" against anything is you have to keep fighting it till you actually beat them so far down into the dirt they can't get back up, or won't get back up. Blizzard sued, won, then sat their fat asses back down and stopped doing jack shit against the rest of them.

A guy can make an add-on that blocks gold selling messages. A whole company like Blizzard or Mythic can't.  Wonder why?

And no they don't block other messages by accident, at least not so often as being a problem. Gold selling IS a problem.

This guy is a poser. He's pissed cause he was one of the gold sellers that got the boot to the ass.

WTF?? Doing somthing about it , and setting up teams to combat this problem alone (think of the cost in man power) and he is a poser??

'xactly

Holy shit on a shingle, I wish all games would do this.

ZOMGWTFBBQ you said something negative about the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE

Seriously though

I'm sure someone is chompin' at the bit to tear into you cause you don't believe exactly the same way as they do. Reminds me of religious fanatics some of these fanbois do.

I'd have to agree with the OP.

I want more than mindless pvp, which means WAR is out. /sigh, yes I know it's not pvp it's RVR and beatin' the snot actually means something when it really doesn't cause all it is, is a BG with  different textures.

I don't really like pvp much, but I dislike it even more when it's pointless.

Nothing currently out has anything to offer anyone that wants any sort of depth, or for lack of a better term, character construction that makes me feel like I've actually accomplished something with my character. The few games out that did make me feel that way got castrated (NGE'd), or cancelled because EA doesn't like competition so they buy the developer, and kill off their projects.
