actually, for the shooting, it isn't a charge up, at least i'm 99% sure from what i played. It is when you click. So if you click to fire, that animation of firing is just there, and the damage is later, but to figure out if you hit or not is based on when you clicked to use the ability. Yes it seems weird, but i find combat fast enough pace that the last thing i really want is to figure out how fast the target is moving by how fast my arrow goes in order to aim properly.

the game does seem empty, but that is players. When players come into it, it will seem a lot more full.

hellgate london wasn't a bad launch compared to anarchy online. AO when it launched the servers couldn't stay up for more than 30 minutes at a time. The servers crashed so much. Also the lag in the game was horrible. Think about a 500 ping lag when you actually have a 100 ping. It took 9 months for them to fix it, then sent out an email allowing for a free month for anyone who wanted to reactivate their accounts. Even magazines said that it was considered the worst launch of any game that year.

What gets me is that darkfall said that the reason you didn't see much dev responses on the boards confirming or denying anything is because they weren't going to moderate the boards. Just let anything go, good or bad. Then they realize that they made the game sound better than it was, and now they are going back on their word.

Another red flag. So far due to red flags i'm waiting for 6 months before even considering buying the game.

you know... turbine actually always had a smooth release. AC2 has exploits, but was stable. Asherons call, the first one, released very cleanly. Hell i played open beta and it was great. Then they said, "we are going live" and i signed up and bamn, i was playing.

SWG had a fairly smooth launch if i remember correctly.

Horizons which is now dead had a great launch. Stable servers, not much to exploit, very well done game, and ery fun. Died to wow.

Come to think of it, over the past 10 years or so, i think there has been more smooth launches than not smooth. Although for not smooth,  i think AO takes the cake with a launch that crashed every 30 minutes or so.

okay, i was getting worried about what you thought good to go was.

Have you checked out spellborn?

Nope lol, you setting me up here? The next guy to post laughed...im guessing you are making me the "butt" of some joke

not sure why he laughed. I played the free trial from europe, by doing a proxy site, and i loved the game. Combat was very well done. While it isn't full loot or even pvp centered, i personally had a blast just fighting mobs. They act like a real team of players would, maybe better. I'm personally waiting for it, and i was going to try darkfall if they let me do it for free.

And to the other people talking about the 10s of people that pre-ordered, realize that many people are looking for something that isn't wow, and sadly there isn't much options out there. From all the combat and world vidoes i have seen from players in this game, i can't imagine why people would like it.

BTW, did they ever fix movement or do you still fall asleep walking across town.

okay, i was getting worried about what you thought good to go was.

Have you checked out spellborn?

not sure about the beta tests you were reading, but i have seen far more beta people saying that this game isn't worth it than i have seen people saying it is worth even trying.

well i personally have yet to find a good review. And by good review i mean someone explaining what made it good, or even a story about how you were at half health and surrounded.

What i have heard is numerous accounts of the game being unfinished, along with even more videos showing the same.

The only thing i have gathered is the game looks nice but thats is about it. (as far as the good goes).

As far as price, i can understand 50 bucks in a box, becuase it costs money to move the game to the stores and pay for all the gas + personal and whatnot. But to distrubte a digital copy that takes 0 overhead, it shouldn't be costing the same as a game in the store. We should be saving money becuase it is digital only.

So far, i'm waiting for spellborn. My choices were between the two, and i've played spellborn and while i'll still try a free trail for darkfall, everything i have seen so far puts spellborn way ahead of darkfall, even more so in combat.

surely you mean 22 days to 5 years and counting. You need a little wiggle room.

Full loot may be the only way of making pvp meaningful. You can actually follow your enemy to his home, burn it to the ground and take his or her's stuff. It's the stuff epic politics and diplomacy is made of.

i still believe that AC had the best system. You lost items based on level divided by 10, +1 more. At least that is how i figured it. So a level 34 would drop 4 items, and a max level of 126 would drop 13 items. And half your gold you were carrying. But the kicker has a 4% hit to all your skills. How did you get rid of it, by killing mobs, and because there was no max experience in the game, basically it ment you had to go level.

So someoen might attack you, die and lose a few items, but if they come back and attack you, they could still win. But die 3 times, and your skills are hit too hard to really stand a chance.

Meaning for pvp, to get their items. Similar to darkfall, items in that game weren't that expensive, vendors sold them cheap if you really needed something.

ah, i always get a good giggle from reading haters post. My little thread was to be taken more lightly, maybe i didn't make it extremely enough. oh well. I always say that there is no idea that can't be balanced.

"what if they put in a aoe stun that does a knockback"

"that would be so broken!"

"what if they make that player have only 1 hp then?"

"that would make him a gimp"

somehow a broken ability on a gimp i think would balance it out.

anyway, i degress. I was merely making a point that yes, it could be more hardcore, and if a game is balanced around skill, then level shouldn't really matter.

Although reading i do have a new question, is gear really make no difference? wearing cloth is equal to plate? if not, then someone who dies a lot and has no money wont have gear, and kind of makes it feed into itself, the more you die, the easier it is to die. Which brings up the next step, is buying gear going to be that easy? I understand a player ran economy normally drives prices down to fairly cheap, but normally there is still an amount of cost to where a player says it isn't worth my time. Is there a route for a broken player in this world? Or will i need to work on my begging skill? man i hate when guards kill you when you beg.

why not just make it so when you die, your toon is dead. They seem to want to make it all realistic and all. So when you die, your screen says "you have died" you click a button and you go the character screen.

i am still under the impression that this is some kind of guys software project. Maybe software + marketing to find out how much popularity it could get.

so, i wonder what those people who said that it was going to come out on the 28th are thinking now. You can see them around page 2.

no doubt they will be saying something like, "well it is good they didn't release an unfinished product"

true, but many people in england like to play with french, some peopel are bi-lingual you know.

anyone else notice that they are adding features in... less than one month from it being released?

here is a list of what i consider new features that are being put in only 3 weeks before release i believe.

Rune Stones (recall stones) have been enabled.

Directional attacks for all melee weapons have been added. You can slice vertically or horizontally.

High score quests have been enabled.

Time limit high score quests are enabled.
Wildlife has been enabled. Tigers, bears, lions etc. can be found in nature.
Underwater monsters are now enabled.
Roaming monster packs are enabled.
More player skills have been added.

Maybe i'm misunderstanding it, but if the beta testers are just now getting a glimps of these, who knows if they will present bugs. Like now the roaming mobs will roam into newbie areas. I dunno what exactly could go wrong, but in my experience enabling things tends to add new possible bugs. And they are just doing this now? Well i guess i hope that they all work out the first time, or i wouldn't be surprised to see another month delay saying, "with all the bugs we found, we are dealying for a month to fix them".

Also for another example of what could go wrong, directional attacks for all melee weapons have been ADDED. see that, added, not enabled. How much you wanna bet that some weapons wont work, aka they wont deal damage, wont have the range done right, or something is going to be wrong with one of the weapons.

i doubt a game of this grade is going to close, they might not be huge, it might take a long time but i doubt they will close it down.

The thing with darkfall is that it has been in development for 7 years, that is a lot of time to build hype. Look at nuke nukem forever. At around the 5 year mark it had massive following and continued for years after it.

Spellborn does need to do more advertising, i couldn't agree more with that.

Let's look at the facts.  We still have not one indication from any known media outlet that they have played this game nor any kind of a review.  We do have screen shots and a few videos, so we do know the game most probably exists although as to what state it is in, no one really knows.

I have to take Aventurine's word they they are inviting people to beta, but since the NDA is in place again we have no information.  What we really want to know is how playable the game actually is.  With the current state of beta, that is not going to happen.  With that in mind we can basically laugh at those trying to post positive or negative information on the game because we have to know it is just an opinion, not an actual fact.

We do know from their past that they are good at announce and delay tatics so I would not be surprised towards the latter part of February to see another postponement.

You can speculate all you want, but until I see some proof of a stable game environment and servers that don't overload with 100 people on them we should assume this game is still in early beta test and treat it accordingly.

Although you forget that every video we have seen so far has two key things that make me believe them false. First is that they show people running around fighting with no interface showing. The second thing is in the "gameplay" video, it was all scripted events and even then the NPCs were a joke. Maybe i'm missing the video that shows the interface working and example of real raw gameplay.

Like most mmos, there is normally a video of "this is what your first few levels will be like" and you get to see someone actually running up to a group of mobs, engage them and defeat them. No special scenarios or anything like that. But we haven't seen that from darkfall. To my knowledge, and correct me if i'm wrong, there is no video of, "here we are coming up on the goblins, me and my 2 friends, and lets attack them."

now that i think of it, i dont know of a single video where they explained anything with a narriator.

To me, the videos look just like a project in maya or some other 3d modeling program.

as much as i personally hate bashing on a game, but really... a DNS attack? this is suppose to be a company that designs military flight sims, that is rocking the best game ever, and they aren't setup to block a dns attack?

what... the... *bleep*.....

i wonder if their servers will be this vulnerable if the game launches.

The main thing i like about tcos is that they didn't half ass anything from what i can see. All the skills and very new and refreshing. Crafting is what i like most about the game. WoW gets me on this, you can craft items, but they aren't as good as drops, so there is no reason to blow that much money on the items when you can replace it for free given enough time.

To me, either you make all gear come from crafting and make the crafting work, or you with with what TCOS did and just make it easy.

To the poster about the rubberbanding, well it doesn't do that anymore and again, you were beta testing. Not sure if you know what this means, but beta is not release. That is like saying that because on the WoW patch servers aren't balanced then the entire game is unbalanced.

Just this game seems to present so many new things, from new classes, new combat, new gear, new crafting... all these new things are new models of how to do things, and people as horrible as it sounds dont like change. Everyone says, "i want something different from wow" but give up on anything that isn't just like wow.

But that is fine, i'm okay if there is only a 5k population and only 1 server. Wow might have 11 million people, but i only talk to those on my server, and even then only about 50 of them i know. If i can get 50 people whom are on a lot and want to do content with me, i'll be more than happy. Games doesn't have to be big to enjoy it.

make sure the comfrimation email that you get, copy that link into the proxy site. If you just click on it in the email it will redirect you. I personally used proxy24.org
