I need someone to sell Warhammer to me (metaphorically), because I really want to be sold.  But what I've read so far, and the friends I've talked to, haven't done the trick.  FIgured I'd try here and see what response I get.

Not playing any MMO currently; played WoW for a long time, and really enjoyed the Arena system for awhile, but eventually its problems and lack of anything else fun to do in PvP led me to leave.

So what does WAR have for me?  First-hand accounts of the PvP scenarios from friends sound like WoW Battlegrounds 2.0.  Instanced PvP mini-games with 5, 10 , 15, etc. random people all trying to grind some "points" for some gear.  Queue up, win, lose, get some points, repeat a few hundred times.  Did my friends and all the review articles leave out something significant from this?  Something like clan vs clan Scenario's with clan ranks and rewards for how well they do?

On the other end, RvR, from what I've been told is the other PvP option.  Specifically, attacking and defending keeps.  Keeps full of NPC's with an NPC "boss" that has to be killed by the other team.  With mini-objectives you can complete to help with taking the keep....  When my friend was explaining this system to me I kept wondering if he was describing Alterac Valley to me as a joke.  Again I ask, am I missing something?

The one thing I enjoyed in WoW was the arena, because despite its shortcomings there was some "adrenaline" there; at the high rankings losing a game often meant losing 1-2 weeks worth of effort.  Or for any EVE Online players, like losing a decked out ship to pirates.  Is there anything like that in WAR, or is it just the PvP-focused Grind that has been described to me so far?

I really do want to like WAR (I've been reduced to *reading* during my free time for the past 5 months, I mean what is this, the middle ages?!) but so far the reviews and descriptions I've gotten haven't done the trick.  Can you help?

Let me make this one easy for you. You are looking for Siege battle like in AoC. The guilds build their own cities with Armory, Weaponry,Stables and so on. You have to defend it against other guilds when sieged. There is a tremendous amount of adrenaline involved in these battles as people are protecting their own property in a way. If they loose it, it will be burned down to the ground. I'm in AoC and I dig it.

I think AoC is doing great now.

Yes, they should just forget the for graphics for a moment and look at the core of the game. Graphics are nice at first but if the gameplay sucks, the game is doomed to failure.

I've played better F2P games.

Well I don't agree on that. I think AoC is fun. And by the way the graphics game engine as well as the most basic comat systems are the core of the game. If FC want to add more gear, tweek crafting, add another consequence system, they can do all that on a patch. What never can be changed is the game engine. And I really think FC did the groundworks very well.

Thanks for all the great responses guys, really appreciate it!

Let me make it clear once and for all. The maps themselves are huge areas. Conall Valley takes you from level 25 to 35 (or more) and all that time you could run around in just one area if you'd like. No instancing. I have same experience in other areas like Field of the dead and Eigopal Mountains. I could stay in one zone for a week. These are huge maps with no instancing. What I guess people are thinking about when they say there are zoning/instancing than normal, could be when you are in the bigger cities like tarantia. The local taverns are instanced as well as the cellar underneath it or perhaps the dungeon behind it. If you want to shuffle a lot back and forth it's naturally going to be a bit of zoning which by the way take like 5-10 sec for me. I just have to admit, I can't really see this as a problem, but then again thats just my opinion. To sum up, the last thing to be worried about is zoning/instancing. It will be more interesting for you to see if you like the completely different combat system, the new characters, the nonelf world etc... Good luck.

I too played GW for over 2k hrs on my PvE necro most of that time was spent in HA. I liked the fact that it was all skill based, but sadly without being in a good guild or winning Halls once in awhile it got borning because it was the same thing over and over again. Over the course of 2yrs I took probably 3 breaks each lasting at least 2months before playing again. Personally, I think HA in GW is very similar to WARs scenarios; however, the difference is that if you stop playing scenarios you'll find yourself at a disadvantage. Thats why I'm not going to pay to play WAR.

I agree with some of the posters here, I do thing that FC should add a guild ladder system.

Good idea. Put it in suggestions forum in AoC. I put one there myself that got voted into the game. Kind of really neat when you see your stuff in the game

Oh I know. The culture armor coming into the game and the way they adding it into the game are all my ideas. Sadly, people seem not to believe me even when I show them my post of suggestions.

Edit: the poll ask if you are playing now or quit at various differnt times so your attempt to troll actually failed.

You already admitted you came here because you were sent on a fanboi mission.
So calling others a troll is a little ironic, isn't it?
You can go back to the AoC forums and let wrgpost and Funcom know that yes indeed there are many here who do not like them. And you can furthermore let them know that if the question as to "Why?" needs to be answered, they only need to look in a mirror.
[/quote]

No, I don't troll people or play the fanyboy. I admit the game has failings. The reason I'm posting here is to try to give people an opinion from a person who is still playing the game in order to counter the negitive post on these forums from people who think they are still in the know, but stopped playing the game 2months in.

Congrats!! And don't let yourself be discourage over haters.

OK. I asked to close this post now as today it is exactly one month since Patch 2.0 was introduced (or is it one day over??). The sum up is as follows:

38.6% of the people posting here in AoC is actually playing the game right now

61.4% is not playing the game but played it before patch 2.0 sometimeApproximately 29% of these quit in the early days even before most of the patching this summer started.

The poll is what it is and I guess it kind of confirm what I heard, AoC forums in MMORPG has indeed a majority of posters that is not playing the game. That could be usefull to know for any people reading these forums. It's going to be easier to find more information on the latest stuff in the official AoC forums forums.ageofconan.com/index.php. This forum is however still valuable, if you can strear clear of most trollposts, as there are many very experienced MMOers residing in this forum. many of them played AoC Alts to 80 and beyond before deciding to put their sub on hold.

Thanks for participating in this poll.

Hey folks. I play AoC and just created an account here to talk about AoC. I've heard that very few of the posters here actually play the game, so I thought why not make a poll. Bear with me even though I'm a MMORPG Noob . Also please comment on what other games you play.

Good luck with the results of this poll BearShammy, and welcome to the AoC forums.

By the way, where did you hear that few players on this specific forum don't play the game?

Is it safe to say to that you also post on the AoC forums? Many of us still have active accounts, so it would be nice to throw you a PM now and again on the official forums!

Howdy... I do not post in the AoC forums, but I read them quite often. I read about MMORPG recently in a player post just like a few days ago. I find this forum interesting in fact as it covers so many games, but in general there is less content here than AoC forums.

Consider to drop by Scourge too. I'm there and have just started a guild with my 80 lvl alts and about 35 friends. My 80 Lvl alts have been saving on a lot of their blue stuff and a couple of purple as well so it's well worth it. . Guildbank looks good.

I can help you out here. I play AoC as well as I have played other PvE games, and right away I can say AoC has the best PvE content out there. I have multiple alts and really enjoy doing the Quests. AoC has it's own ability to just suck you into the plot of the game. I think it's the music, the graphics and the atmosphere that separates AoC from other games. Also, are you aware of that PvE servers in AoC has PvP. There are PvP minigames  on PvE servers. I have been doing some of that too, and it's cool enough and if you do a lot of that you can get PvP gear and gain PvP levels..

I would disagree.  While the music is good, the visuals are pretty dull in my opinion.  More than that, however, the quests are of the same variety you'll find in any other game - perhaps even slightly less imaginitive than in some other games.  Additionally, there is a lack of overall content in the game, and the endgame is seriously lacking (both in the fact that there isn't enough of it, it's simplistic, and that what there is of it is very broken/bugged right now).

I wouldn't say it has great PvE based on what it might have in the future.  If FC adds a lot to it, and improves what it already has, I think it will at least be average.  But not until then.

As it is now, PvE in Age of Conan is less than adequate.  Hopefully, it will improve.

Are we talking about the same game? I talk about AoC, the way I just played it 30 min ago.

I've been reading forums and to my surprise - many people are whining about PVP in mmorpgs. They actualy say that some games in development should not be "heavily PVP based"...they bring WOW as example

Now...i even forgot that such thing as PVE servers exist :) Without PVP this game (or others) just do not make sense. People who want "static" content should play offline games and get a lot more graphics/quality/story etc.

But my point is - i can easily see how PVE half of AOC players could get bored quickly and start whining. I played AOC for 3 months now i think. If i had only PVE part of it i'd quit in 3 days at most.

"PVE only" is beyound my understanding so i won't even ask, but question is - do you think that AOC failed mostly as PVE game and first wave of unhappy players came from PVE servers? I've only seen increase in activity on my PVP server (wildsoul) during last couple of months..

Could somebody give an example of MMORPG with good PVE content so i'd have something to compare AOC with?

It's been a while since I logged, but over the last couple of days I have spent some time with old HG. I think it has improved some. What about you guys, do you think HG is picking up?

Hey.. Hows this game doing? I heard character customization in this game is fanatstic.
