They wont go bankrupt any time soon at least.  I say if things don't look up by this time next year, well, then that marks the end.

Many people are posting that AoC has upwards of 300,000 subs.  It's probably more like upwards of 200,000...250,000 at the most.  This isn't bad since I heard that they were at 90,000 at one point.

Haters wanna burry Funcom and AoC because it wasn't some MEGA success that a lot of people HOPED it was going to be.  They will always hate and always say AoC and Funcom are dead because AoC will never be this ultra successful MMO.  It will be a good MMO that never quite gets the respect it should because of Funcoms poor decision making from the start.

AoC will probably top out at 500,000 subs at the most.  THAT IS IF Funcom keeps their promises and fixes what STILL NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

I enjoy the game, but it has a bad rep due to the many problems it had....but, I don't think Funcom will go bankrupt.....any time soon.

Where are you people getting these 300k-500k numbers? AFAIK they havent released any and if they did there is no way to verify. Given the number they started with, the number that left and the recent server merges are we to beleive that they have tripled paying customers since hitting an all time low?

If you actually read my post instead of just glancing and noticing some numbers you would have seen that I DID NOT SAY THERE ARE 300,000 or 500,000 subs, genius.

I said that there are PROBABLY something in the range of 200k-250k.....AND.......I said there most likely ARE NOT 300k-350k.

BUT......

I DID say that AoC's subs will PROBABLY top out at 500k....IN THE FUTURE....that is if Funcom can keep things going up....

READ BEFORE YOU RUN YOUR MOUTH!

Looking at your rant I see you say current numbers close to 300,000 and then you go on to say it would top out at 500,000 or so. You even caught that yourself saying 500, 000 and yet you tell someone to read before running their mouth. Now I am curious as well as to where you are getting these numbers. The person you responded to only asked where the 300-500 numbers came from.

LIGHTEN UP!  See everyone has a caps button :)

And for the record you also said people are reporting 300,000. What people?

I'll admit, I overreacted...I'm just really used to dealing with people that go around and slam games on the forums....forgive me.

But, I did use words like PROBABLY, and MOST LIKELY, so nothing I said was concrete.

The numbers I gave were my theory pretty  much.  I never said that they were the number of subs.

I assume there are probably 200k-250k subs currently, and I assume the max number of subs the game will ever get will be around 500k.

Now, I have read the posts of several players of AoC saying that the game has between 300k-350k subs.  I highly doubt that...but...I cannot say for sure.

Now, I'm sorry if how I had written my original post wasn't clear, but I don't like when people just look at the numbers in the post instead of reading the words around the numbers...not saying you did that Imjin, but to me it seemed like Courtsdad did.

Like I said, I never said that my numbers were right.  It was my theoretical estimate...

For a thread that start like this, "This is pure speculation...", your estimates are more than good enough.

??????????? ?????????-????? ???????????

Damn it MMORPG, you need to get this forum updated with Russian letters!

This thread is based on www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/217994 which in detail discuss an significant increase in AoC gaming over the last month. Yesterday the merge was perfectly completed and it is expected that this trend only will increase. Just out of interest lets complete a poll over why AoC seem to again appeal to the masses, after all as many people have pointed out over the last half year it is not normal for a MMO to gain activity again in the way AoC have done.

TAKE THE POLL AND THEN WRITE SOME CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENTS

I'm not there and haven't heard much about so many people playing now again though I imagine if they did merge servers they would all look like more people are playing again since they are more crowded.

Here's a hint for you, number of logged players in Xfire has increased like +50% over a 5 weeks.

What did you vote for?

I am really worried too, because if this massive population surge continues, in a week from now the very reason the servers were merged will stop to exist. Overpopulation will occur and FC must ease the increased population of the servers giving the option to transfer part of it in the Semi-Freshstart servers Orionman mentioned above. I really hope FC gets through this crisis as well... one can only hope...

LOL yeah right, when I see the game breaking 20K hours on XFire I might worry about over crowding, until then that is just a fantasy

the XFire hour last week on 15th were due to the server merges BTW. Right now AoC is holding pretty steady with maybe a slight increaseafter the Holiday boost. Nothing like some people make it out as though.

A free comeback week or two would boost the pos for sure. The gamble is how many would stay after the free period. If they had a 10% retention from a 14 day free trial that would be a success. Myself I still have not sdecided whetehr tio let my sub run. I am hardly playing the game but am thinking about a try on a PvP server to see if it can grab my atttention. Maybe tommorrow.

Playing on a PvP server is like playing a completely different game. I wouldn't let tortage disuade you from doing it tho, since that's the only place where people can actively and effectively prevent you from questiing

PvP in form of Sieges is another aspect of the game that should be experienced.

Another guy in that forum thread he tried it and it is not. It still ask you to pay the full amount.

I swear to god on my kids it worked for me and it is playable as I write this. I even deleted my credit card info......Something is fishy here...maybe a bug????

Wouldn't you think that the Financial report should tell the stock holders a thing or two about the change pricing strategy? lol.

Well it's another 3 month record on Xfire for a Wednesday (and this is with all EU down for 24 hours). When weekend comes and both EU and US is on with all the returned players AoC is back in the 30's. Not to brag about it, but even the most negative trolls would have to realize that AoC is doing ok then. www.xfire.com/games/aoc/Age_of_Conan_Hyborian_Adventures/

Yep.  AOC is doing much better.  A little perspective

#1   WOW                  = 380,500
#12  EVE                    =   19,800
#17  War                    =    13,500
#21  LotR                   =     9,500
#44  Twelve Sky       =      4,700
#45  AOC                   =      4,600

What the heck is Twelve Sky???

AOC is doing everything right.     Server mergers,  $2 boxes for a free month, and soon they'll have the free month for returning players.   Sounds like as soon as the game goes free, it will be right up there with FlyFF ( # 24)  and maplestory (#32) as the most popular free games on the market

For Christ sake, you don't have to be such a intense hater that regardless of what happens, you have to find something negative to say. Relax, activity will probably drop off again at some point and you can turn the trollometer right back to max when that happens. Just a friendly advice bud.

And just to make you feel better, yes there is indeed nothing that can compete with your game (WOW) populationwise. We know that and we also know that WOW probably will be even bigger by next year. However, don't let this get in the way for being happy with players of other MMOs when things are looking a bit up for them. Peace.

I promise I'll stop posting the full story, when you stop posting half the story.   The box is basically free now, of course people are going to play it more than when it was $40.  I even put in about 10 hours over the past week.

You are only posting half the story. Retail, the box is still $31.99. The people selling it for $2 are generally indie game shops who have to get rid of their stock before taxes are calculated. Does this mean AoC is doing "great" or the same as it was at launch - NO. But what it does mean is that you can't say the game will go F2P just based of the fact that you can pick up a copy for $2.

Amazon.com sells it for $30, and it is currently at like #1500 on their sales chart.   Saying the retail box is $31 is misleading, because nobody is buying it at that price.   Play.com has it for $15, but it takes about 2 mins to find it for less than $2.

like you said.. at this point retailers are just trying to get rid of their stock..... which makes it highly unlikely they are going to be ording more boxes.  Once you are no longer recieving order from retailers, it would really be smart for Funcom to offer the game as a free download, and then try and get subscriptions after the free month.  Which is probably what is coming in the next month.  Free client download with free month for new players, and a free month for returning players and then try and hold on to subscribers.

I am still looking for your point. lol

I came back because it cost me $2. and it allowed me to see that nothing has really changed.  The populations are not growing.  Even after they reduced it to 18 servers, there are still 10 servers that have almost no population and the 'good' servers still are not having multi-instances like they did the first month.

It's all smoke and mirrors.. game is just as bad at launch.. the only thing that has changed in the past month is now that people only have to pay $2 to find out.

How can you sit there and say populations are not growing after less than 24 hrs after the servers have merged?

You Can't. You can't speak for all servers. EU hasn't even happened properly yet LOL.

You have no idea, and you say you came back for $2 and the game is still the same with 3 hrs playtime - Doesn't get you anywhere in game - let alone to where the content has been added in or any PVP levels or to see crafting changes etc etc.

Too freakin funny. With the blanket statements there mate.

Btw I don't believe you tried the game again. Screen shot to prove me wrong. Thanks.

He can say it because no one can provide anything but anecdotal evidence that the population is growing or not.  Of course the remaining servers are going to appear more populated, not due to masive amounts of new subs, but because they scraped together the players from all the low pop servers by merging them.

Prove the growth, Avery.  Give us credible numbers.

Otherwise, this thread is exactly what it started as - propaganda.  If you accept the premise of the poll, it implies agreement with significant growth.  That's its purpose.

Thats right numbers can not be proven so the make believe needs to stop, the blanket statements about pop needs to stop - I don't see you guys in the lotro forum bitching? why not? same thing.

I can log in and see many new faces - something which you two can't or won't.

I am really sorry you can't take it - must be most upsetting.

It's not upsetting in the least.  It's a game.

I do agree that the make believe, and the attempts at deception, should stop.  Unfortunately, you're one of the primary purveyors of manufactured numbers, on this list and others, so I hope you will take your own advice.  With the emotional investment you have, I know that will be hard to do.

LOTRO is a great game, with a much better than average community.  You don't see much in the way of complaining on that board, because there are far less propagandists trying to deceive people about the game with make believe numbers, and claims after every little patch that the game is "like a totally new game, tons better, 11 out of 10".  That is THE difference - most LOTRO players don't seem to feel compelled to lie to improve the image of their game.

Many AoC fanatics appear obsessed with two things: the image of their game within the MMO community (and therefore sub numbers), and WAR.  Just playing and enjoying their game seems secondary to them.

Says the LotRO player posting in the AoC forum. LOFL.

It have been up there for like a month now. Cool a lot of new blood and more to come now that it is sort of official that Darkfall have been postponed again.

Darkfall hasn't been postponed again. According to the developer and producer the game is still on track to release on the 22nd, but it will be distributed digitally

and it will be an extremely limited release and there are still no beta testers in the game who can talk about the game, except for a girl who is friends with the lead developer.

Twice now Tasos has failed to answer a question about 'servers'.. and makes it sound like the game will release with only 1 server on the 22nd, which means 10-15k players.

The Jan22nd release sounds exactly like a paid beta.... i'll be curious to see if they make those 10k players sign an NDA.

anyway.. off topic.

Ehmm... I think you should read this and say that again. www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/219254

This "kickass" endgame will be finished in one day, it's a frikking dungeon, not an expansion. If they don't add grind-like elements to the dungeon, it's going to get boring under one week.

You mean the place where you can only get the ingrediants for the crafting potion that will dissolve gems stuck in gear? How handy is that!!!

Litch King was done in what 1-2 days.

Those raids in WotLK are just an aspect of the game, not the whole content.

Oh I'm sorry was The 2 Lvl 80 additions (which are not even on test server yet) whole content?

This is just an addition to the game, you know, improving it, giving the players what they want and ask for. There is also a heavy tie in with crafting changes coming and story plot.

When is this stuff patched in? Will it be in place with 1.04?

Part of it is character development in this area too. Players are not getting a real sense because some drop rates are messed up. Getting level 50 gear when your level 20 is not a good impression when you find out the lvl 50 gear isn't worth anything. They need to fix this more than what is there right now.

You know when your 40 and the crafting stuff drops in the level 40 zones (eg Tarantia Noble District) amongst other places this is great as it is specific to the area and level range your at.

When your level say 35 and do Santumn of Burning Souls you could - depending on what class you are be wearing that same gear till level 50 even with running though lots of other area's on your way up in Epic.

Not saying they should make it easier, just it needs more attention to make a better impression. Especially as leveling is fast, that shouldn't be a reason not to get things done properly or left on the back burner.

Crafting drops are good, gear and the itemization that entails should be broader.

Tool tips for descriptions should be better on all items too.

We need to know exactly what stuff does presented in an easy to access more informative fashion.

We don't need to know where to get it (though it helps ;) Some parts need to be re-evaulated again.

They should get 4 Q&A guys to make 3 characters each and level them up and see where they can do better as it effects some types more than others.

It is not that it is bad right now, just that it is a good area to improve on and make better in the same standard and fashion of mmorpg's that player come from and experience a difference here.

A lot of what you write makes sense, but to be honest I have noticed the crafting resources drop thing. Nevertheless I was not talking about that, I was adressing the eternal "I don't want to look like everybody else" nonsense. The game is so packed of unique looks right now, that it is actually hard to not look special...

Guys, I am fed up hearing this itemization Bullshit anymore. The game is fcking packed with hot armor, but if you gonna run back and forth between Conall Valey and Wild lands of Zelata, sorry you are not gonna see to much of it. Here's how it goes.

1. aoc.yg.com/. Check it out more than 41000 items. Almost every item in there is possible to find in the game

2. It you want to get a unique design, if it is important to you, here is what you have to do.

    * Do a zone on Epic. All bosses will drop the most weird blue stuff that is super cool. I have tons of    pices from Epic Zones and people ask me all the time "where did you get that, where did you get this?".

    * Don't be lazy. Open up all those chests you'll find around in Hyboria. Most of the time it's not the coolest stuff inside, but every now and then you can find very nice blue drops. Aaaand, these drops are not bind on pickup, which means you have a hot pice of equipment for the trader if you don't like it yourself.

    * Craft it. There is tons of cools armors you can craft in the game (Basic, Guild and Culture armors)

    * Hey maybe you are too lazy to do the hard crafting grind, maybe you rather enjoy raiding. Well raiding in itself is going to give you nice drops, but it might alo give you nice receipes. Give them to a crafter you know and get him to make you the stuff.

    * Some quests also give you good gear that might last for 10 levels at least. Be aware of that the last 50 added quests expands the itemization even further. Ymirs pass in example have tons of yummy. Also E. Mountains have lots of good stuff on the later quests.

*Revamped dungeons, has a lot of new stuff inside. I did Main system again this weekend and damn that place has like an entire new section to it. Tons of bosses on the end all of them dropping really nice blue stuff. Hard as hell, but if you have a good group you can do it. This stuff is seriously just waiting on getting picked up.

    *Ohhh, tons of PvP armors

*Finally, all of the 3 new zones or dungeons coming with patch 1.04 are going to introduce another shit load of equipment.

Let me know if someone have a specific type of armor or item they are looking for. I can probably help.

Re: the news

All I can do is a Nelson "HaHa."  They should have merged months ago.  Too bad about all those Battlekeeps.  Hope you didn't grind too hard.

In that case, can you pull out that FC doll again and show us where it hurts?

Dude, wtf are you talking about? Show me one movie where the mammoth is useful, where a player with a mammoth is owning people, show me. I had it in my inventory for 3 months, only used it to diss people in OT. In sieges mammoths can be used for damaging buildings, but guess what - it takes 30 mins to destroy a building with 10 other mammoths, so it's easier and quickest to just destroy a building with a trebuchet or catapult.

If Funcom wants to get people to join, they should stop wasting time doing that with blatant lies, such as that stupid white mammoth ad.

This is right, trebuches and catapults are better to destroy buildings, but nevertheless you fail to say that. I am only saying this because I have used mammoth many times now and it is kind of semiusefull with it's huge damage zone. Perfectly balanced as a mount also should not really become like a vital factor in success or not in the game.

Wha What? 270k isn't insane Blizzard multi-million numbers, but are huge for any MMO other than WoW.

If they had 270k subs they would be grossing over $40 Million annually.

math is yer friend.

Well gross on 40 Mil pr year = 10 pr Quarter, which is exactly what FC reprots, so again another indication of AoC numbers being 270 000. And this one was deducted by yourself.

Thanks for the quick response also

Don't worry, the snow mammoth is completely useless, except for the cool looks. Contrary to what the newest AoC ad on this website tries to show, the screen does not shake when the mammoth moves and you cannot knock back 5 people with it.

WTF?????? Of course the Mammoth is usefull. Huges Structual damage zone and of course you can use your mount to do knockback moves!!!! This is what happens when you have experts that's not playing the game.
