In the same boat here!

I bought an electric guitar, currently learning blues licks and progressions :)

And lurking these forums of course, until GW2.

If this game had a sub fee I would agree that the prices were too much.

However considering there is no sub and you are getting more content than any b2p game ever released. I think the price is fair.

This!

I would argue that you will get tons more playtime and content etc from GW2 than for example Skyrim or ME3, and what did people pay for those? (not to mention SWTOR).

har har, yo sooo funny :)

But seriously, try the tech demo, and it doesn't take a quantum computer to run either.

Outerra terrain engine: http://outerra.blogspot.com/2012/02/outerra-tech-demo-released.html

Tested it and drove around for an hour or so over seamless pretty amazing terrain.

This with some Minecraft building stuff and we have a winner!

Lets not forget Fallen Earth, I think you pretty much can travel all over the world without ever seeing a loading screen, right?

Only game since that letter that came even close to most of the wishes was the crafting and trading economy of vanilla SWG I think.

Even if GW2 is bad

...

It's better than Chuck Norris!

@Zippy It is more or should i say a lot more.

This game is awesome best graphics ever and the best combat system.

Very fun to play and i think by far Kingdoms of Amalur > SWTOR on all aspects.

BTW this is a definite pre-order for me.

Best graphics ever? Don't think so, I got WoW GFX vibes from the get go.

I think that the MMO genre is splitting up into 2 new branches right now. One with TOR that is using a lot of instances and are kinda somewhere in between MMORPGs and CORPGs, and another one with GW2 that instead try to use scaling to bring out massive non instanced battles.

That does not mean that one of those things are better than the others, just different.

I can actually see myself play both those games, they offer different aspects of a MMO but as long as they offer it good it is all fine. :)

10 thumbs up for that, coudln't agree more!

So get your own video game industry?

Hey, at least you have CCP and some French MMO dev studio I can't remember the name of... maybe the Dofus people right?

*edit*

Ankama - in France, developers of Dofus.

And that small company in sweden, Dice I think they're called.

Shove your pay2win game up your ass.

I thought you said you hadn't played it? It really isn't any more pay2win then any of the other AoE series in that you spend $20-30 and you can access all of the most powerful items etc. All thats different is they are allowing you to level up, quest and PvP for FREE and everyones complaining about it. Can't please some people...

BS!

If you want everything, they ghave a pack that cost what, 60-70€. Just the premium civ unlock for ONE civ costs 20€.

Casual, DEFINATELY no hand holding.i like games to be silly complex, hard and challenging, but also provide a mix with relaxing , easy, content for when I'm in that mood.

I hope they don't bother to put down to many resources on PvP, almost no one cares anyway it seem:

If the polls on these forums is anything to go after, 75-85%  would play a PvE only game after all.

If it was up to me, I would cancel PvP from SWTOR all together, i have FPS games for feeding my PvP needs.

Texture resolution looks very low, hope that improves.

Neocron, man I wish the developers were'nt such tards. It could have been the best with it's great ideas.

Put in the EU as a state allready, will ya, pretty please ;)

Even a casual player who only plays 40-50 hours a week can hit max level in 7-10 days real time.

...

Om my, is it casual now to play 40-50 hours a week? Thats how much I work a week. MMOS are definately not something for me any more :(

Hmm, an orbital laser strike... summoned from somebody standing about 10 meters away.

I like Star Wars... as space opera/science fantasy, but it is... especially in this particular MMO incarnation... about as close as you can get to fantasy without actually having elves and plate armor. :)

Though I have to admit, I would go all sorts of hardcore fanboy over a more traditional space opera based MMO, like say... some E.E. Doc Smith or A.E. Van Vogt.

Then I'd be gushing like a schoolgirl with a crush, any resemblance to fantasy be damned.

But again that doesn't mean that the required range is 10 ft away,  it just means for demo purposes they fired it at close range so you could see the other players (or npcs) reaction.

In the IA video you do see him shooting from cover from a pretty far distance away... think about being an IA being able to summon an orbital strike on an opponent when you're safely behind a box at sniping range?

In an actual combat scenario you won't see many players getting up close and personal with ranged weapons, save for the heavy gunner troopers and maybe the off hand bounty hunter.

From eveything I've seen/read average combat distances in TOR seem to be about 30 meters or so....that's insanely short to represent anything that really feels like something dealing with modern/futuristic weaponry.

From what I've seen TOR ranged combat is pretty much scaled to about the same distances as typical ranged combat in most fantasy MMO's....replace the bows & magic missles with blasters and you've pretty much got TOR.

P.S. I saw the IA video....you call that a "far distance"....I'd qualify it as just barely outside "point blank". Heck, I could hit something with a thrown baseball in RL from that distance.

Yeah but I doubt you could kill it from that distance with a baseball ;)

I'm also curious how far away you can hit something., especially with rifles. A sniper should be able to hit something from at least 60 meters away.

When I did my military service we were required to hit a human torzo sized target from 300m laying down, with an 7.62 automatic carbine, ironsight only, no scope. That was just basic training. Snipers can hit things up to 1000m without problems, i think, and even further away.

So I think realistic ranged combat in any game is pretty much out of the question as technology stands now.
