Something no one has pointed out either, the size of weapons and shape influences it's hit box, so varying weapons types and size for every class could cause balance issues and make certain weapons better than others based on shape alone. For this balance to be rectified there would just be way too many animations, I couldn't possibly expect them to make all those.

A berserker with a warrior sword just doesn't work, the class would be completely different and it's entire moveset would have to be changed, thus making it no longer a berserker.

I personally really like the set class weapons, besides, changing weapons in games like WoW, Rift, etc, doesn't matter, you had all the same attacks and animations, just your weapon looked different...no big deal really.

Yea the hit boxes / reach for different weapons would change,  but I do hope they go with different weapon loadouts in the future if it makes sense and they do a total skill change out.

Giving a player a choices like:

Lancer: lance/shield or spear/shield

Warrior: Duel swords or sword/shield

Berserker: 2H Axe or 2H hammer

Slayer: Greatsword or Duel axes

It could be done but it would probably take a lot of man power in order to do it right.

I'm sure the combat has more layers than an onion.

Mmm just not seeing it.

Playing my second beta weekend, realizing that its not going to get much better than it is.  But i feel like i've played this combat before and then it hits me.  Star Trek.  Graphically, animations.

Which then made me wonder. Is this animation problem just an issue with trying to make modern or futuristic characters feel alive. Is it easier to make fantasy characters feel more alive cause u have more leeway?

Are there any MODERN mmos that have great animation?  or even halfway decent?  (I don't consider star wars a modern mmo because it's classified as space fantasy)

When you have a game that allows free movement while using skills the animations suffer big time because they cannot match the lower body movement with the upper body movement,  and this in effect trickles down to non-combat animations because of the decisions the dev's made regarding combat and movement.

I am 100% online all the time anyway. The DRM doesn't bother me.

Never had your internet go down for a few days?  It's nice to have a game (or movies for that matter) that plays off-line while you wait for the service tech to show up.....

Right now I think the political system sounds a little lacking. I really hope they add more incentive for players to become a Vanarch. Manipulating taxes in a province is all good and all, but who is going to re-visit the lower level provinces and for what reasons? I mean gathering for crafting is O K I guess, but the crafting system needs too much help right now to make that the only viable reason. Maybe I am missing something here.

Perhaps you missed the part where taxes goes directly to the Vanarch. So, a Vanarch himself would make thousands if he ruled a popular zone.

And gold means a LOT in Tera. Max level enchanting is VERY expensive.

While i understand that Vanarchs get income through taxes I don't think that the income is a huge pull for me. The way I understand it, NA release of Tera has fewer requirements on enchanting +9 gear. The income would be nice and all ... but if that is all it gives you then its not a great feature. I was hoping that there would be a better point to this aside from exclusive temporary mounts or a larger temporary income.

for example, resource rights, guard manipulation, guild presence etc.

Not sure about the other things you listed but guild presence is one thing it will have.  The Vanarch's guild logo will be present on the map,  Quest log for that zone, and will splash on the screen every time to enter their lands or dungeons.

Everyone will know what guild controls that district.

Well there will be a few choice area's that most high level guilds will fight over,  mostly the one's with end game instance dungeons.  For example Cutthroat Harbor is a level 30'ish area but it has a lvl60 dungeon located in the area.  But for the lower area's I would expect newer guilds that are just starting out to vie for them.

You think amazon is harsh, check out metacritic >  http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/diablo-iii

So now leader of guilds with a guildlevel higher than three can try to get votes and become the boss of... a zone of Tera, or something? And then what? Do NPCs mention that players name, or does the guild get some money (like taxes), or what is it good for?

Here you go:  http://tera.enmasse.com/game-guide/endgame/political-system#what-does-a-vanarch-do-exactly

Quote:

What Does A Vanarch Do, Exactly?

We've mentioned that a vanarch has the power to tax and turn on special vendors and services. In addition, the vanarch and all members of the vanarch's guild get unique mounts. In fact, they're the fastest mounts in the game, and only a select few players will have access to them, and only while their guild leader is in power.

Vanarch&Guild 1

On top of that, the vanarch will have access to a special "message of the day" announcement as well as an announcement channel, both of which can be used to communicate with people in the zone you reign over.

Everything else costs policy points. For every week that a special service is available, you'll need to pay some of your hard-won policy points. No points, no services—and a diminishing chance you'll get reelected in a couple weeks.

You can use your policy points to:

  • Raise or lower individual tax rates on several categories of transactions. Any gold you earn as a result is yours to keep!
  • Open specialty shops, with items not available anywhere else.
  • Add skill trainers in remote locations, allowing characters to stay in your province and spend more gold more often.
  • Upgrade the abilities of stamina restoring clerics—something which may come in handy if somebody dies on your watch due to "friendly fire."
  • Enable access to trade brokers on certain continents.
  • Adjust the PvP settings for your province on certain continents (and only on PvP servers, of course).

Policy Taxes

And all of these choices are visible to your fellow players through the province menu. So choose wisely, play regularly, and get the word out about the kind of leader you really are!

Really? I remember buying Diablo 2 less than 5 years ago..yeah late comer. I played hours...at least 30 or so....and never even finished the first part. I even bought the additional content. Never got to touch them. Can't imagine how long the total content would ahve taken. Not to mention the re-playability of that game and online community for co-op...which I never delved into. I believe it's surprisingly strong even now.

Now Diablo 3 finally comes out and its 12 hours of playtime. Bam. That's it.

Please tell me this is bullshit.

At least i can always go back and restart D2.

A group did a speed run and finished it in 5 hours :  http://kotaku.com/5910613/korean-players-take-down-final-diablo-iii-boss-but-cant-get-loot

Compared to Tera, there's indeed no grind. Lol.

And you know this how?  buy playing a short beta...please Lol

Every game has some form of grind, even GW2.

A few things you need to know about Mystic vs Priest.

IMO a good group that always plays together will always prefer a mystic over a priest.  Priest are good for parties that are not very good (lacking gear / skill) and will need the burst heals that they provide.  A good group will takes less damage and will prefer the mystic because they have better group buffs.

Another thing to remember is priest do far better DPS than a mystic does, so its going to be much easier for the priest to solo.

you forgot the mention the +15/month as part of best to spent lol.

F2P soon, why bother to waste money ?

$15.00 / month = 00.50 / day

Yeah thats really gonna break your piggy bank,  hell you can't even buy a 12oz can of coke for that price.   I wonder how much you will pay in your cash shop infested f2p game?

Hi all,

I've been reading up on the game and have some some postive feedback. I'm still currently playing wow as a "social" player and have been for a few years now. I like wow but I do want to move onto something else. Is this the correct choice?

I have a real passion for online games! I really enjoying questing and love crafting stuff. Its just that I didn't want to waste like £30 only to find out two months down the line that no one else is playing because they got bored or the end game wasn't that great so everyone left.

Help?

That's a hard call daza,  I dont want to go out on a limb and tell you to play tera only to find out that you dont like it.  That decision will have to come from you,  if you had a few friends that came with you then it would make things much easier.  But I can tell you one thing,  tera's population will never rival wow's or most other games but I feel the population will still hold its own at around 150k-200k for a good while.

I have a question if you don't mind.

What exactly do you think you will be doing in D3/GW2/Secret World?  Yeah I thought so.

Why a sub fee?

I predict Tera going F2P with p2w cash shop in 1 year. Or something close to Rift's Lite. Or warhammers thing.

Because paying a sub fee (.50 cents a day) is far less than what a person will spend in a so called F2P game.

Lv52 Warrior.

Will be playing a priest, slayer and berserker at some point in time.

I'm lv51 and have not tried it yet, mostly due to cost.  I will probably start with Alchemy after I buy all my glyphs & skills.  I have maxed all three mat gathering professions though and by doing so I got 3 cosmetic hats & a free inventory expansion for the effort.

Yea, yea, it's Aion, just without factions, without tab targeting, with collision detection, with a seamless world, with a better engine, with BAMs, without flying combat ... just like Aion.

So Aion but crappier? gotcha. Seriously the games are very much alike feeling imo, this one instead of flying has wierd combat that takes 4-5 secodns of response time to do an attack ifnront of you and thenw e call it action combat...wow

Are you trying to bait people?  I'm sorry but you are totally wrong.  It is very obvious that you have never played the game.

So far TERA is a boring fest copy of Aion i dont think this game will survive a very long time in the western market at all it has typical asian bland graphics, with horribly grinding and borign quests and a button mashing action like combat overall is prolly the worst game in the last year im afraid =(

Thank you for that misinformation.
