I got bored of the questing by level 16, I just can't play the errand boy quests anymore in an MMO. Combat was sick, loved the spells, even the graphics were good for non-high rez, but the rest is just the worst from all MMOs that I hate.

/me back to waiting for ArchAge.

Really glad they had this closed beta though, and I really hope that other MMOs pick up on the combat, cause it was a nice change of pace.

There is a big difference between instance and channels.  Tera's open world is not instanced but it does have channels, especially at lower levels (except for cities and towns, which has no channels).  The channels disapper at around level 40.

this scenario is doomed since you can't move through characters.

Except that Warrior and Slayer CAN, dodge bypasses colision detection.

That's the whole point of my posts in this thread...

So in the case of a Berserker vs. War or Slayer, Zerk being sluggish with few seconds long power ups for skills and longish animations where you lose character control... I can see it being facerolled by rest of the melee classes and against good players will prolly only be able to land AEs and the main defence skill which is block seems totally useless against them.

All because devs decided to let 2 classes ignore collision detection.

It might or might not be a problem at 58 but it sure looks like it is at low levels.

Benjola the poster in this thread is correct,  Dodge has to cancel collision for pve and that will carry over to pvp.  Berserker is the hardest class to pvp and I feel your pain,  the class is the weakest in 1v1 but it totally rapes in group pvp.

Hang in there your skill speed will increase at higher levels and  will get somewhat better but zerker will never be top tier at 1v1 pvp.

If you don't think dodge should cancel collision then all I can say is roll a warrior or slayer and go fight a bam or one of the bosses in the lvl20 instance,  you will soon understand why the mechanic works like it does.

Ever since I played Morrowind I've been a huge fan of no tab targeting and weapon swings being AEs etc so Tera combat feels great but the PvE still bores me and it's because of mobs dificulty.

My highest char is level 12 atm and I still have no clue what happens on death because none of my chars died yet.

Actually I don't think the health bar ever went under 80%, and that's bad, I've never seen such easy PVE and I've played most MMOs worth playing since Everquest.

The nice combat is going to waste because the lack of challenge.

I shouldn't wait until level 20 to solo BAMs (which are group mobs/elites ) just so I can challenge myself a bit.

If theres open world ganking on PVP servers, it might keep me on my toes I guess but I don't know if that's the case and I can't believe that I just wished there are gankers all over the place just to spice things up heh.

Yes it is easy Benjola and it will be easy untill around lv38-40 (minus a few world boss, bams, instances).  The reason is the game has a higher learning curve than a typical tab targeting game.  In a tab targeting games all you need to do is understand your skills and skill rotation.  Tera places more importance on not only skills but movement, when to dodge and block.  Understanding the mobs tells and how to avoid or mitigate them or just interrupt the attack all together.

Finally someone agrees with me =)   Yes the combat is a step in the right direction,  and finally a company has found a way to bring outstanding graphics, collision detection, free aim,  large open world, shit tons of people and with no lag.

Nope no item mall.  The only thing they will charge you besides sub fee are.

1.  Server transfers (free for the first three months).

2. Chronoscrolls = Plex.

3. Race change.

I hope TERA EU gets a sneak peak this weekend, it would be nice to play at the same time as the US. As to textures, does this mean the EU version didnt havnt hi rez? I can't imagine them being any better, though i didn't notice any AA options.

If the EU client was only 17GB then its probably good odds that it did not have hi rez.

God that was funny, thank you for posting this.

Holy crap they weren't kidding about the lag. Totally unplayable. It took a full three seconds for my character to react to my mashing of the attack button. One of those tree dudes hit me when I was like 10 meters away.

Oh well.

Well at least the server hasn't blown up like last time so thats good news.  Kinda smart of them to try to simulate the conditions that cause the failure the last time.

If you take a look at blizzard and what they are doing with wow (yes Iknow, everyone hates wow)  they seem to be heading in that direction of just getting rid of servers all together and just having one single server with multi-channels on it.   Wow already has "cross-server this" and "cross-server that" so the only logical conclusion would be to get rid of servers altogether.

They announced the release date but have shown very little about the game.

I remember the word you used and it was actually quite offensive to some.

Good riddance.

For the record it was a TEMP ban. Do you understand?

Second, I find your opinion hilarious. So let me give you an example:

I tell you to do a job for me. You do not perform the job correctly. I use ONE SWEAR WORD against you. You are offended because of something you did wrong?

No offense buddy, if you can't take such basic criticism...I suggest you step outside and see what the real world is like some time.

I was watching some streams of EU's test today and they were still having some server wide lag spikes,  you just cannot have that for an action/skill based game.  They need to fix their shit asap.

Frogster would have to ban the whole gaming communty then because everyone has said somethng bad about them.  It's a shame BHS picked them to publish tera in EU imo.

The game was smooth as silk in my single GTX580, so I don't know what's wrong with your SLI setup.

Vsync is only useful if you're having artifacts when you're looking around, other than that it's not very useful. However, I agree that the lack of AA support in the sneak peek event was telling.

There were however people who claimed that they didn't get high level textures, or some other graphics related issues. Considering also the excuses behind not including the high quality textures in the NA version, it gives me suspicions that the game is arbitrary trying to auto adjust graphics quality regardless of options choices and that doesn't work that well for some people.

Quote:

The current version does not include the highest resolution textures. We were doing some testing in alpha to see if we could maintain a high quality level with a smaller resolution. After testing we didn't feel it met our standard.

So what does that mean to you? It means we have a high resolution patch in testing. In all likely hood this will go live today or tomorrow and be an additional 7GB. There is a chance it fails testing (it does have other fixes included as well) and will not make it before this weekend . This means that this weekends closed beta test won't have the most badass settings possible in TERA. It still looks damn good but it will get better once this patch goes live.

We just wanted to be as transparent as possible so that you guys aren't playing super sleuth on screenshot comparison or client size comparison and wondering where the missing gb's are.

today was a stress test, if you read the forums they clearly stated that.

also from watching videos on you tube, you were only allowed 1 character and were unable to delete it. so you lied right there about the classes.

I was at work but I remember reading about that on the offical forums^^  nice catch.

who is your internet provider OP?

Warriors in particular are very fluid.

Pretty sure the sneak peak is capped at 22 or so,  but even if it isn't,  I would say the combat would be inherently flawed if you have to get to 30 before you can "comment" on  it.

But that isn't the case, seeing as how I was only level 8 and commented on it.

Some classes like the slayer get a lot of their best skills early, even at lvl22.  While the warrior and archer's skills come way later on in the progression.  I don't thinks its a flaw really (I probably would have done it differently though) but because the skills and effectiveness of each class will vary, the balance is definitely not at lower levels.

Why?  Because I had tons of interest in Tera until the news started coming in about how same-same it is apart from some pretty graphics (AION disappointment round 2 anyone?).  Besides, it's my right to post in any forum I want to, so kindly take your rehashed "don't tread on my dreams" post elsewhere.  I'm sick of developers giving us the same garbage, and I'll shout it as loudly as I like.

Oh please spare me.  Tera has been out for over a year and it has been said many times that tera is a traditional quest based game.  If you just found out about that now then you are as blind as your avatar.  We know very well why you keep posting the same-old same-old song and dance here in tera's section.

But hay if that make you feel good by all means help yourself,  just dont expect people to take you seriously.

The gameplay was pretty fun, but the quests are atrocious

"collect 5 x for me", I must have done that quest a dozens time in the hour that I played :/

Not sure if I'm willing to put up with that

This.

I can't stand those 'collect and kill xy and bring back to me' style quests at all.

I know I'm not willing to put up with that.  It's all leading to GW2 for me.

Well I can assure you no one is stopping you.  but what I cannot understand is why you and Draftbeer continue to post here in the tera section.  If you have no interest in tera then you really have nothing insightful to bring to this forum section.

Yes we get it.   You have no intrest in tera and are waiting for GW2.   Why do you insist on tell us something we already know.

Probably mentioned somewhere, but my google-fu is failing me today. Can't seem to find a straight answer on how big the client download is going to be for the upcoming beta.

Saw someone say the KR client was about 20-25GB, but the game will be bigger here in NA, etc, etc. Saw someone saying the Western client will be 35-40GB somewhere. Since I only have 20GB left for the next week, am I going to have to miss the first round of beta? (or pay $1.50/GB in charges)

N/A's beta client is 17GBs,  I think they left out the hi rez textures becuase they were causing performance issues,  EmE said they might have a patch for it prior to beta but not sure.  If they do patch it then the total will be around 24GBs.  I think Sneak peek EU client is 17GBs also.

i have a question about this game that you can hopefully answer.

are there 2 slots for weapons or just 1? like i've seen a lot of lances and shields go together, and i've heard the dual wield warriors only have 1 slot for both weapons.

One slot,  lance and shield come as a set.  same goes for warriors duel weapons.
