Im on and off with this game since 2006, and thier is a big drop in pop on my server Mistmoore.   I remember the last time I played in 2008 thier was like purples dropping every 10 mins with so many raid groups going.   And you could see alot of activity in the lower zones.     Now its I saw someone today, and wow thiers 10 people in New Halas.    But then again Im still only Mid level, Im sure thiers alot more than Im seeing, but then again the text chat is slower, and I havnt seen any super rareloot pings lately.

How long to get to 90?   Its 4 years and counting for me, but Im very casual with this game.   Only recently had a itch to level up my toon, so far Im level 57.    Not really much time in, I looked and Ive only played 9 days 3 hrs.  187 in AA.   havnt been power leveling much.

I was suprised about this today, just read the EQ2 boards, this will help alot.   I hope they dont add to many EQ2x servers, but that is what im thinking this is mainly about.   The server for EQ2x I think is already stuffed, near max maybe.    I would not be suprised at all thiers an announcement comeing later about new EQ2x servers.    Not much of a conspiracy if 6 or so live close and 6 free open.

Gone, I dont know when, but I think I know why, I made a post on Mistmoore, left the game for a year came back and my post was still on page one.   No one used these, and since they need space for EQ2x, they more than likely got rid of them early this year.

Only if it was pre cu. And then.. I might even pay for it. LOL

Cool Sig, Im over playing EQ2x, its seperate server, one mistake SOE is making is seperating the free people from payed.   They are making one big mistake, which is more than likely going to kill EQ2.    A free to play SWG, is more than likely never going to happen.   SOE has nothing to do with the direction with this game, everything is approved by LEC.    From what Ive seen during the past 4 years is LEC doesnt care what happens to SWG, if it dies so be it, they are and will never spend another dime on this games devopment.

Hey everyone, I started this little thread to ask if anyone knows of a free MMO to play. I've just stopped playing Jade Dynasty it got to boring. So im looking for one that has a high max lvl, PVE, tuns of things to do... And of course is FREE.

DonHoldiay

I say you go for something along the lines of LOTRO or Guild wars those are great F2P mmos. They both have great graphics and gameplay and much much to do in the large world.

Im having fun with the new EQ2x, the games massive and thiers alot of people right now leveling up, I like getting in when things are new and thiers a population to level up with.

The real question will be how many current swg players will move to TOR.  My guess is that most of them will.  If TOR is any good, it will kill any interest most people have in swg.

Thiers alot of good things coming next year, EVE finally gets avatars, walking around and socializing,  BattleField 3, based on 64 bit, next gen direct x 11, should be the next shock and awe game.    TOR should be fun, but my guess it will be like reading a book, I dont see a end game that will keep people around for long.

Probably a smart move

It would be the first since 2003.

No it really is that bad, I left the game in 2007 but go back and play once in a while.   2007 is pretty much the last year this game had development.    You might like the community, in reallity SWG has become a 15$ a month chat room.   The only SOE game I play is EQ2, because it still gets expansions.  I really dont understand why SWG players still play?  They do the same thing over and over and over again.    Youll learn if you stick around that SWG will never get any new content, and after level 90 the only thing to do is pvp on a populated server.

I'm attempting to play this game but the station launcher is downloading the game at incredibly slow speeds.

Is there any other way to download it??

Thiers two ways use the cd install and the launcher it came with, which is the one I have problems with.   The way I download now is full with the station launcher.    http://launcher.station.sony.com/      I havnt had any problems with this one, about 500k down, takes about 4-6 hours to download a full EQ2 or SWG.

You still have a cash shop to back you up. People go bat shit over cash shop fluff such as shiny mounts and outfits. Not to mention bonus exp items and consumables.

Problem here is that those things already exist in the P2P version of the game and they are still making money on that.

So in that case they must do away with monthly fees whatsoever and do like Runes of magic and only get in money from the cash shop and I don't see this happening.

Both EQ2 and LOTROs F2P business seems to just be too greedy for my taste. I will still pay my monthly fees until GW2 releases since I really have no better game to play, I just seems to be getting more for my money in the P2P version. And it is not so much about the money but paying more for less just seems stupid.

I agree the plan is not set up well at all,  the incentive for me to go for a higher plan doesnt get me much more than a regular subb, and I really dont know why anyone would pay for platinum, its like player charity to even get the gold option.

And the store Im still on the side lines, the only things I want are a mount and a bigger bagg.    The rest are fluff but that is a good thing also it doesnt cut deep into crafters.    Another thing is the Broker, I really mad about that, they should at least give people some tokens per month if they go for silver plan.     Its still beta, I hope SOE listens up and doesnt try to skin the cat with all these extra charges to play a full game.     A greedy company kills a game more than anything else.

I played SWG and thier was always envy with the TCG loot, it made people realize that paying a sub and then not getting development worthy of the 15$ a month, then watching the TCG game get new loot 10 times faster than the regular game.    If the Store starts to be the main development for SOE its all over for the game.

I got the same story, coming back and leaving a month or two after. Also miss the game immensely.

By my opinion it was the best sandbox ever made, most diverse with spacecombat, real crafting classes and the best ingame economy ive yet seen in an MMO.

Now its just a clone. Removing decay ruined the amazing crafting system which made the game alive. Coming back is like visiting an old ghosttown. Theres the latecomers to the game who havn't seen what it used to be who disagrees. But the game is a mere shadow of its greatness.

Everytime I come back I have some fun for a while but every single time I start missing the good old days.. the friends and the enemies

Its like visiting a discontinued game isnt it?   Thiers games I loved Rouge Spear for example, I thought it was the best, some didnt like it cause it wasnt instant spawn, which takes out realism.    I agree with you that SOE, more likely LA producers made it much more simpler for instant gratification players.   Thats what Restuss was for, You die clone and then your back in the fight in 5 secs.      SWG is a poster child for every bad mistake a gaming company can make.      They built it, turned around and rebuilt it, then decided to rebuild it a third time, mean while people got bored and left.    They also killed the game with mechanics, removing mind, removing decay, killed the game for 30% of the playerbase, then they finally shot the horse with the NGE dumbing down of the entire game made it unplayable for anyone older than 12.

I bet it's being worked on now. Devs have been too quiet, TCG is being revamped and it seems to be en vogue to make your game F2P (EQ2X, DDO, LOTRO, PotBS)...SoE isn't a leader in anything in this industry, they're followers - as such, I expect them to follow the trend of so many other games.

I doubt it, the game hasnt been supported by either SOE or LA since 2007, the last three years have been life support development.  I really dont see SOE diverting Devs to do this, LA is betting on SWTOR not SWG, they really dont care what happens to SWG anymore.    And the flip side is why would SOE change focus from EQ2x at the moment, EQ2 is a flaggship game and will always come first with SOE.

played SWG for it's good community it had before the jedimadness started.

The graphicsback then were already getting outdated, the code could not deal with larger numbers (lag) and the original game suffered severely because of the lack of content and bug fixes.

SWG lagged in those days because Coronet, Corellia by itself had as high a population as most of NGE's current servers. NGE lags now because the engine simply can't support the sucky pseudo-FPS combat system laid on top of it.

No I think it has more to due with server resource allocation, they turn things down now, they might be using virtual servers, this is how I see them saving money on thier multiple games and servers.    Imagine it this way why have 15 physical servers when you can just have one with Vmware.    The down side is Vm server A has more need than Vm server B, the people on B get the short end of the stick.

The best things about the game pre-NGE was the complexity and the community.  They should have left those elements alone and worked on the other aspects of the game.   I agree with the other poster that some of the devs were clueless and couldn't understand how people enjoyed non-combat aspects of the game (I am talking about you, Chris Cao).  One of my favorite memories of the game was popping a Ranger camp and sitting around chatting with other people.

Yes the community was all this game had back then, the sandbox was and is the best idea they had.   But the problems of not having a story or lack of content was the major flaw, they should have  tried to please combat and noncombat players.  They have done this but thiers a terrible lack of people on most servers to enjoy it now.

Time line, alot of us hated the time line or story, or lack of any story.    They should have started the game after Vader, came up with a story; thier are a few Jedi still running around, and then created a story for Dark Jedi being around, maybe the Emperor trained up a Dark Jedi army.

Game mechanics, the old animations looked good, I do like the faster NGE paced combat though, but their needs to be a balance between looks and mechanics.     Keep the old skill system, and new expertise system, build layers, they should have made it three tier.

Beginner, Master and then Legendary,  each layer would add extra skill points and a few expertise points.   And not make it based on grinding, base the elder percs on time, year two; you get master titles, year 3 legendary titles and access to extra skill points.    That would have given everyone a chance to have a Uber toon without grind burnout.

They should have gone sandbox with space, copyied more of EVE, they did a little bit then stopped, we wanted capital ships and personal stations and system control like they have in EVE.    Thier never was enough player planets, not enough citey openings for all the people to build a town.

Smedly was right about saying the NGE was what they should have started with, it has a good pvp combat system, thier are more things to do for other types of players, collections, instances, pvp     It was just to late, the goose cooked itself with the lies and lack of content.     SOE and LEC launched with half a game like AOC, the present lack of any support from LEC is apparent, the problem is George wont let SOE do anything drastic to save the game.  You can see that he said let it die after NGE; slowly so the last players will not get mad with the brand, and then he called up Bioware and contracted a new MMO.

Everyone wanted to be a Jedi, and thats why SWTOR is based around a story line that will allow 70% of thier playerbase to be Jedi without making everyone else mad. .    Its just to bad they cant make a MMO to fit the time line we all want.

EQ2 is a snorefest.  The $15 a month is not why I chose not to play.  It's that it is so boring and the humans are butt ugly.  Also some of the game design choices are cumbersome.  For instance, getting new abilities through books.  I would rather just get new abilities from a trainer, just my preference.  And the auction system is crappy.  Did it ever change from where you had to stay in your house to sell crap?  Crafting was too involved.  I like depth but not eq2 crafting.  SWG crafting was far superior in my opinion (best crafting of any mmo I ever played).

SWG should go f2p in my opinion.  If they open a normal cash shop instead of that crapfest of a card game they might make some money off of people they otherwise wouldn't.

But what gets me is they can run two version of a game.  I thought before it was said they would not run two versions of a game simultaneously.

Thiers been alot of improvements to the game.   You can sell outside your house at a broker.    I went back when the new expansion came out, thiers still a population, but not like it used to be, thiers a couple heavy populated servers, but Im still finding groups on my old one.

Differnt servers, not diff game, their going to keep the free to play people on new servers.   They are drooling over Zyngas game model, Ive never payed for Facebook game items, but thiers alot of people that like to get high level fast.    Or dont want to raid for special and rare gear.

Word of advice, do a search SOE Station Launcher, it for some reason is way faster than the regular launchers, the average download is 500k.   The Station launcher is way faster, about 6hrs to get the complete 12gig.

Are people still playing the game? I'm curious.....

Yes thiers about 5 active servers, this game isnt as dead as some people wish it was.    Its doing better than Age of Conan, Everquest 2 and a few others.      The server populations are some of the most active Ive seen in any mmo, its more due to how the game is set up.     Its only drawback is no support from LEC, if the game got some advertisement and a new expansion it would probably be back to where it was.

And yes to the OP you can solo for a long time, collecting, crafting, or finishing up quest lines for items.     A good place to look for info is Alakazam SWG.    They have lists of things you can do.    But I recommend making some freinds, the Higher end content is group oriented, you wont get some items without people, or slaveing your other accounts.

Puff puff pass, you dont know what they know nor do you know the current state of the game.  See you in game in 2011.

It will be interesting to see how much we know about the game when the Collectors' Editions and Lifetime Subscriptions are put out for sale.

I was a sucker for that stuff 10 years ago, Mmmmm rare item, gotta have.  Problem is most games are being released to early, its either the economy or the game company spent all the production egg, so they gotta release.    I stay away from launchs, but by the time they fix things the populations moved on to the new game.

The problems with the company but its also with the gaming community.     I saw that with AOC; sure it had problems, but by the time they fixed em the population left.     The same thing happened to SWG, people saw that the game wasnt finished they left as fast as they came in.    If SWG could have held onto those players it would be looking at  2 million + population.

Sounds like that wont be the problem this time, what Bio-ware is going to be fighting, "Hmmmm this isnt SWG, cya".    The Kotor community needs to realize thier a nitch market, this game isnt going to be the broad game everyone wants.    But then again an all encompassing SW mmo will probably never happen.

I just today bought the SWG Complete online adventures, downloaded the client, created a login, activated my key and when I login, it says the download has been fully completed but there is no play button?  All I see is a greyed out "updating" tab but all information has been imported correctly?  The only clickable buttons are Chat, Register Expansion and My Account. If I click any of them, a window pops open and I get an internet page loader message.  Obviously it is not my internet as I am writting this message as we speak. Any sugestions?

Are you using any security addon that has Active X disabled? I had to turn off my my XP Antispy program settings to get the EQ2 log in to work.

Do a full scan, more than likely your missing a file, you can find that in game options.
