Kidding aside Ive never had problems with thier staff, stuck a million times in the DWB and theyve always gotten me out in a hour.   AOC now thiers a crappy support staff.

 Come on over to Sunrunner, we still have some room left, and after pack up, Im guessing a few places to put down towns.    Thiers a big pve community, people are getting space combat going again, and thiers pvp, not huge, about 30-50 people pvp daily.    But I see alot of the old pvpers trying to get more going, since so many have come over and a lot of the old crowd is back on their free time.

 Well I spent the first two years pve, two years spin grinding, and two years pvp.   Now im back to pve and crafting.    My fun isnt everyones, right now Im back into improving my toons with loot, which goes with the new RE system.   Plus I never made a few weapons, so Im having fun finding rare stuff to make them, resources to geo-sword cores.

 Thier all going that way, WOW sells items, SOE is just getting on board with this, and the new SW mmo/rpg is going to be micro transaction, same thing content for sale.  

And your numbers are off, thiers 30k to 50k people still in game.    The top 3 servers have at least 7k people, looking at the math you can see at least 1500-2000 on the heavys logged in,  if you consider that only 20-30% of a server population is logged in the populations alot better than you think.

 I just dont get it, the good old days were fun, but thier not coming back.   Ive lasted this long in game because I let that crap go, I look for something I enjoy when I play.   Either crafting, looting, pvp you can still have fun doing all of that still.   I get burnt out on crafting Ill go pvp, tired of crafting Ill go looting.   

With the transfers its looking alot like the good old days.   I swear you all think a games supposed to feel brand new all the time, and the atmosphere is supposed to be launch with hundreds trying out the game. 

WOW has killed the mmo, what Ive been reading it would take half a billion to keep up with current WOW, thats why you will be seeing more RPG's.    

Maybe in 10 years we will all see a new sandbox that is as good as the old game was, but from what Im seeing, game companys think sandboxes are a risk.  With little reward. 

 Network at SOE is down.  Maybe a hacker.

Everybody has Jump to Lightspeed now because the NGE developers were too stupid to figure out how to have the tutorial section on the Millenium Falcon for people that didn't have JtL. Instead of figuring it out they just gave everybody the expansion...I'm sure Smed must have cringed at that decision...

 JTL was supposed to be in at launch and is considered a core part of the game.

There have been a few server crashes recently, I'll check that whatever caused it is being investigated.


 

No need to check. Its the fact that the server hardware is ANCIENT and not up to the challenge. The pace of the game after the NGE has always been too much for the servers. There are CONSTANT issues because of this. The travel lag, rubber banding, item loss, server crashes, rollbacks etc. I could go on, but I wont.

By all means, enjoy the game. Conversely, understand that SOE are only interested in providing the bare minimum for SWG and realistically, SWG is just a vehicle for the TCG (RMT) testing now. Its in their best interests to keep it on life support, but thats all they will do. Well, that and releasing TCG expansions.

  Some are even on Very Heavy.   You guys gotta think about communication speeds from client.   The perfect game is impossible, what you want is 10 years down the road or even 20.  Look at AOC the way they got past lagg was instancing the entire game.   You would never see more than 20 people in one spot on any server.   Thier was location instance A B C D and so forth.    Im actually impressed that the game can handle 70 vs 70 battles without killer lagg.    FYI SOE servers have the highest speed ratings on the planet in the commercial sector.  Check out that fact at speed test web sites.  Its true no matter how much you cling to the old crappy SOE outdated server, which is a urban mith.


 

Really? Ive had huge PvP battles in LotRo and guess what, No lag to speak of. When you say "fastest servers in the commercial sector" I assume you mean that they WERE fast in 2003. We're in 2009 now chief and its no myth that their servers SUCK. That's why they have been down at unscheduled times throughout the last week.

 Since you dont play and follow every little thing in game still, we just had a major transfer of players, Im guessing SOE is over stuffing a few servers which is creating problems.   I speed test my connection once in a while, and according to the speed test site SOE has the fastest servers on the market.  

  What I dont get is why still cry about a game years later?   I think you are all way past the letting it go stage.    Either get back in game and protest on the forums to get SOE and thier Devs to look at areas you want fixed.   Other is let it go and let new players look at it the way it is now, since we all know the old games never coming back.   Stop putting down something you have absolutly nothing to do with.  

These new Devs are not like the old ones, they do listen to the players, the squeky wheel is getting attention.   besides the more players in game makes it possible to fix the game faster, more subs = more money for Devs.    

I still can find areas in game that are fun for me, I still craft, pvp,pve, thier are instances that give out new items, collections that give out new items.   PvP is in my opinion is much more fun than it was in the past.  Sure I miss the old system but ehh it had its problems to.  Thing is thier are positives and negatives in game.    Besides SWG is still as good as any mmo Ive ever tried, one more positive is SWG has the closest and most active community Ive ever seen in any game.

 No kidding the Devs probably dont have a working model yet, and this is not going to be a mmo they said it themselves.  This games a RPG, he got one thing right its all one big queste with pvp.   It should be titled SWEQ3

  The people on SWG forums are still involved  and do have a say.   The people that left the game and are still obsessive are the idiots.     Why cant you let it go?     

 Actually thier was Jedi cloak in game before the Nge, it worked on force points, the closer you where to a person or a npc it would drain your force, until you could no longer hold cloak.     Jedi where the first spys in game actually.

I havnt seen anything that will bring me back until the expansion and that is what a year away?   AOC is such a dissapointment, a classic rushed to market before finished mmo.    They went the way of SWG, and died faster than SWG which is a record in itself.   It took 2 years to kill that game, it only took Funcom 2 months.

 Would be nice, but its been confirmed that thiers no new expansion.  that clip is from a person that blames Smed for being fired.   Its a collection of clips from SWG and other SW games.   Pretty impressive.

 

Well SWTOR is not really a MMO, from what I read its going to be one long story.   Didnt they say its like Kotor 3 4 5 6 7 all rolled up into one?   The problem with SWG is that LA left the game after the NGE, and Smed has been running the show with a shoe string budget.    LA never added a card game, that was done by Smeds people.   The only problem I see is that SWG desperately needs a expansion to bring in people.    The games been improved since the NGE most of the broken aspects have been addressd.    If they wanted to really improve SWG they would add another 9 classes to the game and a few new aspects like more planets and adventure planets.   

But I can see that LA has pulled the plugg on any expansions or real Development, they dont want a competitor for thier new hybrid mmo.    SOE is the real reason this game hasnt been shut down 2 years ago.   If it was up to LA they would have pulled the plug, thank god for iron clad contracts.

Bingo! Any deviation to the free CTS, be it destination or items, will carry a price tag. I wouldn't be  surprised if the resources and crates will be able to trasnfer before the free CTS just for a quickie money grab. There are lot of players who have been waiting for that alone.

Read what they are doing, all items will transfer, even resources.    Not all servers will be on this list.   What they are doing is allowing smaller servers to free transfer to medium to large.   This was needed long ago, but its going to make the game play alot better for people left on small servers.    

The problems of the past are being addressed, its slow, but the games on a upswing.   Its not dead  no matter how much some people wish it was.  In the next two years I expect things to significantly improve for the better.     Thiers no place but up people, we already hit rock bottom this year.    Soe and La have too much invested they are not going to give up until its pointless.   Why?  they are still making money.   90k subs = 1.3 million a month, not bad for a dead game, lol.

And you'll be wasting your time if you are expecting a game that is ANYTHING like the original SWG. The devs of KotorO are WoW fans and it's going to be aimed at the MASS MARKET. SWG was a niche game and was changed to appeal to the MASS MARKET.

What you will get in KotorO is a more polished and coherent version of what SWG is now.

It makes me laugh when I see the "vets" getting excited about KotorO.

They also stated Kotor online wont be a true mmo, Im guessing its going to be more like a Dice game.   I expect a battlefeild type game play online, which will be good but not what people are thinking its going to be.

The thing that makes sandboxes last a bit longer is the social aspects in play. Take SWG for example reaching a full template was really just the beginning there. From there you had numerous things to do, from starting up a competitive crafting business to a lucrative career as a bounty hunter. Much the same in EVE as well. The limit is your own playstyle in those games, not a brickwall as you pointed out in other game types.

 


Star Wars Galaxies was by far the best mmo ever made (imo). Just because of the things you listed above. You hit the nail on the head with everything you said. Too bad we will never see another mmo like it. But as far as Warhammer and AoC goes, War is simply a way better game any way you wanna look at it. The two really are uncomparable and I think the population now and over time will prove me right.

 

I'd agree, WAR is built with far better groundwork than AOC started out with. I guess it really boils down to what your playstyle is, that's going to be the ultimate deciding factor in this debate. They really are incomparable games.

If you're into the horde aspects of PVP, much like many people were during the pre-cu days of SWG, of course you're going to find war superior. Even back then I was more of a solo PVPer who grouped up with the guild only when necessary. For instance, when the Imperial blob was out and about during prime time :).

That's really the only aspect I completely enjoy about AOC, the solo PVP atmosphere. Everything else about the game is far to linear for my personal taste.

 

Thiers still life in the old girl yet.   SWG isnt dead, the games getting new elements added, things it should have had in the beggining.  Right now Devs are focusing on instances and rewards, hoth should make the pvp more interesting.   Thiers been talk about cross server pvp instances also.   They have brought back some crafting proffesions, next is more work on the non combat proffesions.  

With the announced server merges next year, things are starting to look up.   The games been through some ruff times, but I think in the next two years its going to rebound significantly.    What it really needs is an expansion.   Soe has been taking polls again, and It may look like they will serioulsy think about expansions again.   

SWG is actually a good game, the main problem is its bad reputation, if people would give it a try again, they might be suprised you can still have fun in it.   The same can be said about AOC, its gained a bad reputation with the players, you can even say that both companys have made the same mistakes, releasing to soon, not listening to players, poor damage control.    In the end, I think both games can make a come back if their given a chance by both the players and the companys developing them.
