hehe pwned by forums! I won't mention how this pokemon pixellated mess and polished turd was an horrible experience to me but about greed, integrity and Blizzard : Their desperate way they try to get any buck they can , this secure account thing could be free i'm sure, the paid pve to pvp server transfer 4 days before Warhammer launch (after they repeated for many years that wouldn't feel right to do so, talk about integrity and trust). And now the item shop meaning players will have stuff according to an extra fee, not to the general subscription. As if they needed the money ; as if they couldn't give to charity some bucks from the billions they make if they are so caring, as if they couldn't give 100 % of this extra fee to charity. This behavior is disgusting and pathetic. I won't list all paid services they offer, it's too long but I think if you paid their game and expansions and so many subscription months they should grant you at least a free transfer, a free name change, etc, by account, even reduce a bit your subscription fee if you were a faithful client for a long time. Blizzard is rolling for greed everytime. Need i mention the bot players in Alterac for months without Blizzard doing anything, invisible game masters or that were never hired, never stopped gold spamming for months on /2., rude and offensive general chats, persistent off-topic channel use, lack of knowledge of the game by GMs? I had this bad experience of a guy hacking our guild chat and speaking through our nicks and throwing insults, so i complained to a GM and received an automated answer 3 hours later telling me general bullshit and not recognizing/knowing that this hack exists. I asked like 4 things in my WoW playtime, everytime i received some hours later automated answers full of bullshit or refering me to the forums. So you get those kids chatting for ages in SMS style about rape and porno stuff in Stormwind and no GM ever is here telling them to stop. Where the heck is all the sub money going, can't you hire real decent game masters? Was I not paying for a quality of service too? Special award goes to RP rules that were never enforced on dedicated servers (who could ever RP in the WoW universe anyway, with copied "lore" popping out of the ground to sell more books and justify expansions), with lots of retards spoiling in any way the basics of RP you would try to create. I guess here too they couldn't spend our sub money to implement their own rules by hiring game masters and policing chat channels? So now, before another victimized drama queen leaves the forum (he must have alts already anyway) let's make things clear : Blizzard has only customers now, not players. Blizzard is ruled by its shareholders who don't give a f**k about games and integrity as long as it brings more money (and fanbois even admit that it's a firm and should act as one!!!). So don't expect anything good from players and forum users who still think a game should be more than ripping off players.

Allods Online - First impressions in the open beta test
General Discussion « Allods Online 10/18/09 12:34:21 PM
Hello! So the Allods Online mmorpg in Russian has been released recently : retail boxes in Russia and now everyone can download it for free and play for free (in Russian). It will stay a free to play game. The game will eventually be localized in French, German and English. NDA is lifted on the open beta test so here are my first impressions for those who are wondering and lack information (and can't read Russian) The client size is 2.24 G, update then is 355 M. You can download it from http or through torrent. There's a launcher and an autopatcher for updates. A problem during installation : patching process of the 355 M update found a corrupted launcher.exe so i kept the Patches folder, deleted and reinstalled the game and relaunched the launcher after replacement of the Patches folder and the process was completed. 1. CHARACTER SELECTION The char selection gives some customization : face, hair form, hair colour, body height, face details, eye colour, skin colour. You don't have many of them though. You have 2 enemy factions and three races for each factions. League ("good side") : humans, elves, furry critters moving by threes Empire ("evil side") : resurrected (undead?), humans, orcs You have different classes dependent on the race : druid, magus, necromant (elf necromant wtf???), archer, warrior, mystic, scout, shaman (check the website maybe i'm forgetting some). Original stuff : elves have wings and hoover over the ground, the critters are always three and are fighting together as a pack. Oh and yes some classes have pets (druids eg).
2. GRAPHICS The character models are very good, detailed and vivid, the amours displayed on the char selection are original and impressive, feel adequate to the body. The environment is a mix of say... Vanguard and Runes of Magic, better than WoW, but it has its own style, the sky is beautiful and looks like a painting and the ground is more like Runes of Magic but with better textures. The grass is animated, blue butterflies, water looks like water, day/night cycles. The towns have an interesting look too, original one. I mean it doesn't feel like a clone of anything I know (not that I know every games anyway 8-P) Special effects are good, lots of sizzling stuff, looks fine. Animations could be a tad better for some characters but you have funny and fluid emotes and fight moves. 3. SOUNDS You have some voice-overs and normal sounds and normal music. Nothing that will whoop you down, but is as it should be. 4. GAMEPLAY You have the usual bar with skills and shortcut, nothing special, worked normally. Nice thing is a button to interact with NPC or loot anything around and a key to enlighten the special objects or characters which you can interact with. 5. INTERFACE It's not that good because you can't reconfigure much now, it's too big and bulky, the chat room modifications can't be saved. They need to work on that. The small map seems useless (but the real map works normally). There's a compass. It's still beta so subject to change. 6. GENERAL Not a lot of options to reconfigure the game, some must be saved at each launch (beta remember). You have a chat room, grouping, friends lists, guilds, auction house, mail, etc. The game was running very smoothly for me with all options maxxed (nvidia 8600 GTS 512 M, 2G RAM, 2 core processors, win xp SP 3). Servers are now both pvp and pve, developpers said they devised a mysterious system not implemeted yet to satisfy both carebears and gankers 8-P This is a F2P game but there's a item shop, you buy crystals with real money and you can then use crystals in the game for stuff. The shop isn't implemented yet and I don't know if these crystals give you a real advantage over other players in terms of gameplay. 7. SPECIFICS You have an introductory mission for each side, a nice touch lacking in some mmorpgs. This is a game developped in Russia based upon a popular RPG licence in Russia, developpers said they want to imbue the game with national specifics without rebuking people who have no clue. So if you play on the Imperial side and go to the castle you'll have statues very similar to Lenin, a typical soviet derelict restaurant, a red star on a throne, etc. The imperial side has a lot of quirky references to Soviet Union, uniforms, postal service, etc. It gives a sort of strange feeling of fun and bewilderment but is really original. The League side will show izbas and golden domes, for instance. Parody seems there too, "do you want to live forever?" asks an orc (starship troopers), or a big bad orc standing in front of a throne exactly like Thrall in WoW. You can wander in a sort of hyperspace on ships and attack others or astral monsters and caravans, shoot them with ship cannons, etc The game is immensely popular now, starting from 2 servers, they have added 3 and they are full to the brim, the website is strained, but it's the same for every mmorpg start anyway. 8. QUESTS Very standard quests : kill x crabs, find y plants. Repeatable quests. Quest texts are well written, you can read them as they reflect the psychology of NPCs. Waiting with 30 people in the starter zone to kill a respawned boss was lame though, developpers should know better now ;) CONCLUSION So these are only my first impressions : it's fun to play and level up as in any decent mmorpg, but I'm not a high level and didn't do any PvP or instances. For people who wonder if this game is worth waiting, the answer is definitely YES. I would say the quality level is that of Runes of Magic which is imo a pretty good F2P game. I didn't mention things that are relevant to the beta status of the game like servers, lag and options. The game has been updated 3 times in 15 days so it's alive. The most cumbersome thing is the bad interface but they have already improved the chat room in the last update and it's still beta (can't stress that enough).

World of Warcraft: Druid Guide Level 1-10, Part One
News Discussion « General Discussion 3/19/09 1:23:30 AM
I like the cartographer and questhelper part, as if this game wasn't awfully easy and obvious in the first place, they still can't read a quest text and ponder 10 seconds and search in a limited area. Terrible game, terrible community... |

Anytime will do, it's easy to level up quickly either solo or with a fellowship/kinship, there's only an expansion out with 10 more levels, and now is a good time with Lothlorien book 7 launch (out in USA, 24th in Europe) which bids new refined starting areas and quicker experience gains. You can manage PvE with normal gear and there's PvP only if you go to the specific zone for that, so good gear isn't essential to the core game. |

Considering that the majority of haters and drama queens (the ones who replied untill now in this thread for instance) never even contemplated to try Darkfall but just love to bash on an Internet forum to show how tough they are, and that a minority will maybe lose the enormous total of 20 dollars for a game no one forced them to try anyway, OP is completely right to say kiddie customers/attention whores should just STFU and GTFO of forums, and btw you're not needed in mmorpgs either.

You have distinctly the two worst mmorpg communities from now on : WoW for PvE and Darkfall for PvP. |

Special Spellborn Chat with David Perry from Acclaim and El Drijver, Lead Game Designer of The Chronicles of Spellborn. Acclaim will start with closed beta next week "When we launch the open beta, which will be shortly, there will be no more ip blocking between any of the servers, whether its the acclaim servers, that handle most of the world except france and germany and the benelux, and there will be no more ip blocking on the side of spellborn as well."

Not sure if it's a good choice, if you rush through levels to the top, not reading text quests, not caring about the world, not communicating in character, not caring to create and take part in adventures, missions and intrigues, have RP meetings and relationships with others, etc and if you begin to RP only when you are at highest level it doesn't make much sense in a consistent RP character development. For instance you can then one-shot your way through many mobs, how are you supposed to RP with a superman owning 3/4 of the world you live in? Better start when you are weak because risk, danger, mission = fun. You must create your history and your past by living and playing it. At highest level all your maps show already the world, you know the instances and bosses, you can go everywhere, how are you supposed to have fun RPing if you're quasi-omniscient and invulnerable? No, you shouldn't just start RPing in a inn at level 80 as if you were a semigod fallen from the sky (or you should have an immigrant heroic background ;)) and just because you finished your level rush and haven't better things to do from now on and grant yourself a RP rest, but still wanted to show others you were capable of doing your grind chores to the top. Hm, RP and RP servers in World of Warcraft and WoW "lore" anyway... They never enforced RP rules on their dedicated servers and even if they had some real lore (not the silly one they come up with for a new expansion or to sell books), how can you rp amongst gnomes on helicopters, green-haired jamaican trolls dancing capoera, and goats on polar bears wearing googles and a murloch on their head waving a Blizzard flag?

What hasn't been really done right in an MMO yet?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/27/09 10:39:03 PM
About crafting, simple proposal: make it useful! I mean in the most popular mmorpgs you just craft things to run a bit more in the hamster wheel because it's another reason to level up, like char levels, reputation levels, hobby levels, etc. So you grind, it takes time, you pay your sub a bit longer, sure it can force you to buy stuff from other crafters or do special quests, or think about AH and economy but in the end what you craft is generally par or subpar to quest rewards, very subpar to raid, factions, pvp and instance loots and if you level up very fast (which is the case in most mainstream mmorpgs) you can only craft items far behind your needs. Then you end up selling raw materials for other crafters because it's not worth selling low gears when you can earn lots more in an instance with your high level. You can of course find a niche and craft items needed for others to complete their quests, but hell when you have zillions of gold already, and in most mmorpgs it's always the case, why bother? Another bad idea is crafting things that only you can use... purple World of Warcraft highest crafted gears were bind on acquire, wtf. So you can't play or RP and get rich and famous as a crafter, it wouldn't be too hard for devs though to make the crafted items the best in game so that it makes sense to craft again and develop the market and befriend the best crafters and bargain with them, but saddly the general tendency is to make more and more mmorpg players independent, losing a bit more of the socialization and renown potentialities who should be the essence of a mmorpg
