Problaby if they do a wow quest system they will FAIL HARD. If they do something new they will success.

Now all games are pretty similar, they are based on questing and the questing system is equal from a game to another.

I think MMORPG it's obsolete, this games are MMOQSG, Quest Slaving Game

So far, everything they've said about questing leads me to believe that it won't focus on "kill x mob, gather y item, run to z area" going from hub to hub. At least not so openly obvious.

Questing is supposed to be more "natural" and happening all the time. Not go to town, pick up 5 quests, repeat.

Some random hopes for questing from me, ramble style!

I could be way off on my own preference here, but the "pick up a quest" model bothers me to begin with. Part of EQ's "magic"for me was figuring out what things were used for, and deciding whether to hang onto them before I knew what purpose they served. Turning in gnoll fangs doesn't bother me at all, but having an NPC tell me "Go out and kill gnolls and gather 4 teeth" just seems to lead me too much. It's basically the same thing, just without the initial instruction. Perhaps that's why I wasn't a fan of the mail quests.

I'm hoping they allow a quest journal of sorts, but somehow without specifics. I don't think all quests should be riddles, but a lot of the better quests in EQ were "I need this, but I don't know where to get it" or "So and so wields this, and I need it. He was last seen traveling through the Karanas" which leaves me alone to explore all of WK, EK, NK, and SK. Referring back to the original information IS very useful and doesn't ruin whatever immersion I have. I'm pretty sure I would write down the concept of what Captain Tillin told me.

I would like the option to set markers on NPCs once I find a quest, but I don't want them shown to me to begin with. I wouldn't want it on-screen necessarily, but clicking a few buttons to mark them on my map (and therefore minimap) is fine by me. If someone needs help I should be able to find them more easily later on. In Everquest though.. I may not figure out what the hell the quest objective is until a month later, at which point I forget where I got the text to begin with. "I will help you expel the darkness!" Yeah that doesn't help me remember either. Haha.

Summary: I think things like map markers, hubs and quest journals can be used in scaled back versions to make gameplay more intuitive, but still keep that old school, exploration-encouraging feel to them. There is a balance between hand-holding and intuitive usage.

I'm with you, so many ways to do questing that have a lot more long term enjoyment.

Would love to see a company focus on the main game and forget about releasing huge expansions or even content updates with "new" stuff. Simply adding quests to a NPC I might not have seen/talked to in a year would be fun for me. Give a reason to go back through previous areas and explore things I thought I had learned everything about. As long as it isn't super obvious and easy for a site to put everything into a database instantly, I'll be happy. Hopefully the "life of consequence" has some impact behind it where they at least give "quest npcs" a few different options, even 2-3 would be better then the static 1.

Because im not english i always had troubles for expres myself. But, Slaker is right, it was about inmersion not direction. Maybe camp sebilis for the Fungus look like a work, but it was something you decided to do, instead of do this, do that, kill 20 go there etc...

Yesterday I downloaded EQ2 but i uninstalled 10 mins after I saw all quests are like that. It's like a job and your boss is the game.

Think it's called Story Bricks, look it up. This has promise on a level yet seen in a MMO.  this could be a first in an MMO where interaction with an NPC will have an AI that will change the standard set interaction we have seen in every MMO to date. how that plays out we will have to wait and see. SoE live is soon

I hope Ai wont mean a bunch of "if player(bla bla bla) then bla bla" because it's not AI.

Will this game be similar to another games or will be more eq1 in questing system?

I prefer not to play to another game of killing X mobs, looting X items and talking with a NPC then with another and so...

I remember when i played eq1 calling for exp group in loio, KC, sebilis.... and do this all day and having fun with that...

And the epic quest was really epic.

Ignore all games that have questing system like wow... you'll find the same ever and ever. Look for games with another system and of course, that games that promote the social aspect.

I think eve online offers something different and fills the social aspect. league of legends is another game that forces the social interaction, but is not mmorpg.

Anyway, i suggest you to spend your time in something that requieres time, for example: learning music, practice some art, etc... I'm sure you spent more time looking for the "PROMISE" game than playing to a game. has become an emotional game.

Hi all,

i've played the beta and what I found?

Same again... same game again...

Quests... go here and there, talk to it and bring it back to there and ... again... again... again...  no evolution, nothing, just another wipe.

Combat with no difficulty

Explorer path: you dont need to explore, just go there and click here... welcome to exploration

It's another game. Not an innovation.
it's sad but i think they wont success in their goal
we are consumers... we are the last link, we are the bounty
sad new... i think it was the last good game with eve online.

i dont want a quest based game... i want a few good hard quests... not kill X go there and there and your mother ·$&&%$&

rings of pwer

i smell UBBER-HYPE

earth will shake when you log into the beta

so I still play GW2 - because my wife does - and I pretty much think its the easiest and most boring MMO i've ever played, not to mention a ridiculous RNG grind for anything of value but i digress... I really REALLY want a new MMO thats challenging and intense and demands teamwork. Is FF XIV for me? I've never played a FF series game and someone in GW2 chat said FF XIV was "just as lame ass boring as GW2 is"... thoughts?

i'm just about ready to take a very long break from MMOs or just retire completely. I'm a semi-casual player but when i do get a chance to get online, I want to do something epic and challenging. I've listened to alot of commentary and videos but I never hear anyone address this aspect of the FF XIV gameplay.

Give Eve online a try... it's a different concept of game... and you can success doing different stuff... pvp, pve, trade, mining, etc... I'm sad because actual games are pretty easy.

Since eq1 and vanilla wow i dont find any fantasy game changelling. Eve for the moment fills my need and i'm a semi-casual like you.

So the numerous exploits that are appearing is not killing the game for you?

Players with 1,000,000,000+ Astral Diamonds does not ruin the game for you?

Players exploiting the ability to duplicate rank 4-5  enchantments doesn't ruin the game for you?

Players exploiting the foundry for extremely fast experience doesn't ruin the game for you?

Players exploiting the epic dungeon bosses to earn infinite tokens for endgame gear does ruin it for you?

Players exploiting the PvP battlegrounds to AFK bot for free experience doesn't ruin the game for you?

I find it funny that it's not the exploits that's ruining your game. But the simple inability to leave mid dungeon that's ruining your experience.

PW are very greedy, they will try to get the money and run before the game collapses.

People have fun in farmville!!!

You can be a succefull asteroid farmer :D

I'm a miner, i have fun mining, earning money and then doing exploration or sec missions... with no worries about the money i can lost. I have fun chatting while i mine... i also mine in WH with a friend defending me against rats or me defending and my friend mining. I have only 5M SP and i feel the danger when i go to dangerous places.

I find it funny how the people with 10B ISk and 150 million skill points talk about how we don't know how to play, and it's "not all about the skills"

I enjoy the game and i have 5M SP

Well, it very much can be. You do the right skills and you can almost triple your attack speed and damage. So yes, they do matter - that's with shy ship, and that's with skills alone.

You need to now where you can move with your skills and ship... maybe you will learn in combat... i prefer ask and get advice

I know you can pay with ISK, but the investment in time to get that much is pretty high for a new player. IT will take months to raise capital like that and not grind the hell out of the game.

Earning ISK is an art... you can earn having fun and not grinding... you have to find your way

I absolutely laugh at these people saying we're to accustomed to games like WoW or Themeparks and can't use our brains, that the game requires deep thought. Such a high opinionated community. If there's one reason I may quit EVE, it is because of the community. So very elitist from what I've  seen. You offer your opinion on any feature and it's "Go back to WoW, noob", just like all those "hardcore" gamers in DFUW, or other such games.

if lot of people say to you: go to wow, better do it

I don't want everything in 2D. I just want to be able to you know...advance while in the game.

IF you think there skill system is ANYTHING other than a way to get people to pay sub fees and not play, you are fooling yourself.  It is specifically designed around that whole concept to trigger peoples OCD on clicking a button and seeing a bar go up.

EVE isn't hard. EVE doesn't require much thought. EVE is tedious though. I'm enjoying it, but as someone else mentioned, moving around is really annoying.

I want to go to some place? 18 Jumps to get there. So now I click "Autopilot" and go watch a movie - come back, valla, I am at my destination. That's a time waster and pretty simple. Didn't require much thought. Boring, infact. I'm not one for fast travel in alot of MMOS...but's's's STARGATES. Seems dumb.

You are planning your way very badly

My issue with EVE is it takes a lot of time to do anything for no reason. IF they gave a logical reason why - I could accept that, but they don't. They just have it needlessly complex so that they can say their game is super complex and hardcore.

Go wow or nwn... noncomplex games

I don't like WoW, and I hate most Themeparks, I love Sandboxes. But dammit if EVE isn't a Sandbox without Sand almost.

I got EVE at launch, thought it would be the new Elite. I ran into the same problem as the OP. I played for a couple of days and then got to a stage where I would log in, queue up a skill to train, then log off and play another game till the training was finished.

Got to a point where I thought, why pay for EVE when I actually enjoy playing others games while waiting for a skill to level up. So cancelled my sub (well it actually took 9 months to stop them taking my money but that is another story) and concentrated on playing the games that I was enjoying in between skill up's in EVE.

Not knocking the game, think the design is great but my GOD! it is 99% boredom. And of course could never really associate with playing a ship.

But then again: if you are used to a game like World of Warcraft and have everything in reach within 2d, then you are in the wrong game; EVE requires thinking and some effort.

New mmo games requieres less thinking... look at nwn... a path leads you...

I'm still noob at eve... i'm in a mining corporation but i dont do only mining... yes i have a mackinaw ( a good mining ship) that requieres some time in training, but i do WH too... i like to push the limit, to feel that i will die because skilled players are hunting me in cloack hahahah... but now i will learn skill to do some pvp alone, some ganking in WH to noncautius players heheheh i'm always doing something in PVE... i want to go to pvp but for the moment, my primary mission is end a IRL career... only 18 days left :D

You can do missions of different types and play market too... is hard to get bored... fitting a ship is always a challenge

About to start..

All you said is fun.

For example, i dont think nwn is fun... follow a path and press 2 or 3 keys... that's fun? maybe for some people it is.

I like to travel, i like explore, i like mining (yes, mining, because it allows me to chat with my corpmates... have you been in a dungeon gruop at nwn? nobody speak, when first fail someone leave the group... is that fun?)

If i'm with another pilot in a DED and we fail, we come again, and again until we finish it... because reward worth it... rewards in most of the games have a lifetime of 3 o 4 hours before you get another better.

I have fun in eve
