Lucasarts and SOE no longer...like each other, at least they didn't then and don't seem to be exactly buddy buddy now.  Why would lucasarts ever court SOE for a SW game ever again?  Aside from that small and hardcore community who would buy into it?  Just putting SOE on the box is almost a huge stigma, remember when DCUO launched?  How many people immediately cried foul because of the publisher?

LucasArts and SoE made another Star Wars MMO long after the NGE debacle. It is called Clone Wars and it is FTP and still being operated by SoE right now. So much for burnt bridges?

The bottom line is that LucasArts do not care who makes a Star Wars game or what quality of game they make, as long as they pay the licensing fee. The only reason SWG died is because SoE didnt think it was profitable enough to renew the license. Not because LucasArts gave a shit what happened to the game or the IP.

Your comment is pure speculation on why SWG died. I could say, Bioware came to LucasArts with a better offer of money for a new game than SOE had. I could say LucasArts made Soe change the SWG game to the NGE becuase they could since they hold the rights to the IP. Those that know aren't telling,

I say competition is always good. It forces the current game company to keep adding content and not sit on their arse. Current games may copy some new idea that another game uses,  but at least it it gives players more  options.

I would first back up your hardrive. Some of the things I recommend may cause you to lose your email, pictures, and other valuable programs.

Second, pull out the manual to the mother board and check your Bios settings. Sometimes a power outage will reset everything. ie; underclock your cpu and ram settings. If you took notes when the system was new you can check them now to see if they are still at the same settings. You did copy down all the bios settings when you bought it right?

When was the last time you wiped your harddrive? I would recommend before you do anything that you back up all your files onto another harddrive, wipe the one your using and do a fresh install of Windows 7 or what ever operating system you are using. I prefer to have a second hardrive on my system for games, pictures and files. Whenever i wipe my system I unplug the drive with all my important importans stuff first.

How many programs are loading when you start up. These take up your limited ram and can slow your system. Find a good sweeper program to clean up temp files and get rid of tracking cookies. If you can turn off your virus protection program only when you are playing your mmo.

Most people forget that every website they go to adds crap to their system, Every game or program installed and deleted leaves a hack in the registery. I wipe my hard drive every year. It is a pain in the ass to do but it keeps my system running fine till the next year.

Spend as little money as you can till you need to is my goal

Some of you forget the game is free to play. They will not delete any accounts (IMO) because someone may come back and play the game  again when they get board of killing computer run mobs. The biggest thing going for the game is your playing against players and not a computer program. I know of a few players that haven't spent a dime on the game. It's harder to level and make money in game but you can be done. Once you max out your crew training and equip your vehicle with the highest equipment you can research for your tank you will be on even ground with everyone else that buys premium. The only thing Premium give you is more credits per match.

If you post your reasons why you don't like the game maybe it will carry more weight!

I just gave up playing and wanted to give you my impressions of the game.

The focus of the game to me is Pvp and the ability to fly from dragons in combat. On the top of evey hour they open the pvp que to all players from each side. If your not one of the first 10 players from your side to click in you will not get in. The que stays open for 10 minutes but forget it if your not clicking in at the top of the hour.

The chance to fly a dragon is another big draw for me. The chance of getting a dragon is very long and drawn out. At level 7 you get a quest for an eqq and relic that you must build loyality with before you can get a chance to hatch the eqq. You equip your eqq in a special pet slot and start killing monsters and feeding it loot items that drop off the mobs. How you feed an eqq a piece of armor .. well I will leave that to the smarter players. Once you feed enough items to get 100 percent loyality for your eqq and relic you buy a scroll , go to an special priest NPC and pay him 1 gold to see if the eqq will hatch. If it doesn't hatch you get to start all over again. I got luck  others didn't. Congrats you how have an immature dragon.

Now begins the grind, To get your dragon to mature you need to feed it other pets/mounts that you buy in the game and raise to higher levels by first getting this crap boar or goat to 100 percent loyality mated  with another goat/boar that is also 100 percent loyality with a scroll you buy from a mount trainer. If your confused so are many new players. Each higher level mount that you mate/feed or combine to get the next higher level requires more farming of items to build up 100 percent loyality before you can make an attempt to mate them.

Why have a game about Dragons that you will not be able to fly or use till your max level in the game or sink a ton of cash.

My final sugestion to the developers is to allow players to use the dragon as a flying pet at an earily level for transportion to the far away zones you must cross. I spent too much time going back and forth(I was a metal smith) to the bank to drop off what I had harvested. They should allow the players to pick the kind of dragon they want to develop as it levels. Noone has yet made a mature dragon they could use but I heard the final dragon was a gold dragon.

Inventory and bank space are way to small. I wish they would double the size they allow. Not a game breaker but just a thought.

To me both prblems are game breakers. I hope they take my advice and redesign the game.

For an MMOFPS try "World of Tanks"

I wonder if the use of the word "Firefall" is a tradmark infringment on the game "Firefall"? Currently the company that makes Minecraft is being sued for the use of the word "Scrolls" because the company (Bethesda) that brought us "The Elder Scrolls" feels that own it already.

You can find out about the suit : http://notch.tumblr.com/

Remember how long it took WoW to get enough servers up and running? I recall they were adding servers as fast as they could. I hope Bioware is ready for the onslaught!  I can already hear the bitching on the forums from those of you that bought the CE. It was great the first week but then they let the unwashed masses in week 2 and everything went to hell.  Maybe Bioware will rent/buy the unused servers from Blizzard.

One thing I think you all will agree on is the Greed of Lucas  Arts. Why would Lucas Arts have Sony cancell SWG if the release date for TOR was in the summer? Wouldn't Lucas Arts want Sony to continue paying them for the use of their intelectual property untill the month of release of the new game? Look for a December or January at the latest release date(IMO). Bioware and LA know there is a ton of hype about the game so they are gonna stick it to all of us on the cost. I may play the game after it has been out for 6 months if it is worth it but will never buy into any game before the public has a chance to critique it.

How many games have you read about that were gonna be the next greatest thing since Wow? How many of you jumped in and bought the game only to find it needs about another 6 months of developement time? Most games that I have been interested in have offered a free trial period after 6 months into the game release. The game developers know they fucked up by releasing a buggy game. It is unfortunate that their dreams didn't translate well into computer code.

The Old Republic maybe a fine game but will it be fun to play? I know the fine players on this website will let me and anyone else that may want to play this game know in short order. To all the players that buy the game on or before day 1, I look forward to your opinions.

I have Beta tested a few games, sent in tons of e-mails of corrections that needed to be addressed, broken content and mistakes in the world. Most if not all have been ignored. I have watched as they patch the most useless things while glaring problems to gameplay are left in when the game went live. I for one am done with trying to help. I signed up for Beta along time ago but wouldn't beta test this game even if offered. At one time, i would have bought the game  earily but I have seen too many games that went live when they needed another year of development.  How many games  have you played or seen that have their own CU or NGE like Star Wars Galaxies in the first year of play. I will revisit the idea of playing this after 6 months of play and if the members on MMORPG aren't trashing it in the forums like they do to SWG I will play it.

The $59.99, $69.99 or $79.99 or whatever  they are going to charge to buy the game is better in my pocket than theirs. I saved money by not buying Aion, Mortal Online, Vanguard, Warhammer and a few others that looked great but turned into shit .

The SWG engine as you put it is the same one used in Everquest 2. Both games play pretty much the same. If you like SWG then you should love Everquest 2. Just my opinion

I bet SOE lost their collective asses with the Star Wars MMO. SOE has had nothing but bad publicity with it from the begining. With the hacking of the playstation and now their MMO servers, Sony has nothing but egg on their face. Sony has cancelled a bunch of games this year. I see a company that has lost  it's way.

Everyone wants to blame SOE for the changes and down fall of  Star War Galaxies. I say it is Lucas Arts. I bet that LA was involved in every aspect of the development in SWG and had the final say on what could or couldn't be put in the game. The fickle temperment of Geroge Lucas and other executives,  I believe caused the Cu and Nge. In the end LA has found a bigger cash cow with the developers of KOTOR. I'm sure Bioware doesn't want any Star Wars competition from anyone. The first paragraph of my contract  as a Bioware executive would have LA pull any license and forbid any new license to be given for at least 10 years. If you were spending over 100 million to license and develop a game would you want any competition?

Like it or not you all have matured. You demand new content that is different than the old content. No longer will you be satisfied with hours of endless grinding and harvesting. Will Blizzard be able to make the change or improve? I know they will not improve unless the community demands more from them.

One low level zone I had tons of fun in was Befallan. Fighting your way down to the bottom or jump down the well  brings back fond memories. South Freeport was fun with a tough named NPC Dorn B'Dyn. He seems to spring up at the wrost of times but it was fun because there wasn't any other game like Eq.

Good luck all with the new server.

This sounds like every  new game in the last 10 years. Lag, desync issues, and poorly written code are what I have come to expect from mmo's. I would hope that everyone that has bought games on the first day only to regret their purchace would stop supporting any company that brings UNFINISHED, OR UNTESTED games to market. If you think a game has a future but know that it needs another 6 months of beta testing then tell everyone on these forums not to buy it, but to wait. Please justify your opinion with concrete examples and not name calling of another person's post.

Even though many companies bring a unfinished product to market , It is we the game buyers that can send the proper message to them and not buy their product untill it is finished.

About 2 years ago I was in the Beta test for Stargate Worlds. It had promise. One day the game was up and running the next not.

What really happened to to the game company that was developing it?

On a side note. What happened to Starwars Galaxies? I started playing when whe game first came out and it was a great sandbox MMO with tons of pvp, pve and a great social environment. After about 6 months everything changed.

What really happened?   Did Lucas Arts hate the game and force SOE to changes? Did SOE have to get approval from Lucas Arts on everything they designed for the game? How much control did Soe have to add new content and story lines?

I feel like I am beating a dead horse for asking about SWG but since this article is looking back on past games I was hoping for an  in-depth article on the game. I feel like this is an important subject since Bioware is now developing Kotor. Will this game be another SWG crash and burn?

General Discussion  » investors just don't think much of swtor

Some of you make good points. I for one don't have much faith in the game for a few reasons.

1. I don't have a clue about the deal the Ea has the Lucus arts. Do any of you?

2. I believe that Starwars fans will not except a sub-standard game that goes against starwars lore.

3 How much control does Lucus arts havei with the story line, classes, and new content?

4. I believe that Lucus arts had a huge hand in the demise of Starwars Galaxies. I can't prove it but it is my gut feeling.

5 If this game is so expensive how much will Ea need to charge for subscriptions inorder to pay off Lucas arts, the investors and EA employees? With so many free to play games and all the new game that have hit the market in the last few years can this game survive if it is not as good or better than WOW? I hate to use the WoW killer comparison but I have a feeling the fixed cost of paying Lucas Arts their royalties and their meddeling in the game design will sink any chance investors have of recouping their investment or making a profit.

6 If I was a banker and Ea or Bioware and came to me to borrow money I would have to know all the deals and what strings all the parties have with bringing a game like this to market. Even then I would probally pass on a deal unless Ea has some serious collaterial because of the risky nature of this type of investment.

Great question and one I have asked myself and others many times.  When I was young and had little responsibility and tons of free time I played the earily MMorpg's hours a day, every day for over 5 years. My Rpg  of choice was Everquest 1 then Everquest 2. Total time playing these game is over 365 days played. This is actual time played not just time logged on but AFK.

Where did a year of my life go? I had some really fun times and still have a few friends that I keep intouch with still.

[object Window]

Today my time is much more valuable to me. I have bills to pay, a job and family that have take a major part of my time. Deciding to play a new game is a big decision for me. I have and do see many new game being created but do any of them do anything different than the past game? I also see a trend  of game being rushed to market before their time. Game that  have major bugs I can no longer tollerate. How many games have poorly thought our combat or a really bad Pvp or RvR that require major revisions a few months after the game goes live? Because of this I have stopped buying new games untill they are atleast 6 months old. How many of the games you have bought and played went through major changes in the first year of play?

[object Window]

Almost very game made in the last 10 years is the same. Your quest if you decide to accept is to kill [object Window]x[object Window] number, of mob [object Window]z[object Window] and return for a reward. It really doesn[object Window]t matter the reason. The end goal if the games have a goal is to level your toon to max get in a guild with like minded players and kill the end bosses  for the phat loot they drop. Well that is what I always did, maybe you are different.

[object Window]

The only thing that seems to make this treadmill fun is when you have friends playing with you. So whatever game you decide to play has to push players to group to level, form bonds, and friendships. Games that allow you to solo most of the game should be avoided. Why play a game online if all your gonna do is solo. You may as well play the game offline.

[object Window]

Sure I am frustrated at what I see with new games. I had more fun playing 8 bit games in the earily 80[object Window]s because game developers designed games that tested your ability to think out the box. Graphics were crude but these games had great replay value.

If you all are looking for RvR then look no further or give "Pirates of the Burning Sea". Right now it is Free to play.

This game has it all the the hardcore player or the crafter. Features of note are.

[object Window]

Features of Note:

1. Its easy to sail a ship but hard to master.

2. Group with 5 of your friends and try your had at Pvp.(6 vs 6 sea battles)

3. Take over control of enemy ports with 24 vs 24 port battles

4. Board enemy ships or player ships and try your had at sword fighting

5. All crafted items are needed for building player made ships

[object Window]

If you want a game that will allow you to compete against players that have been playing since day 1 then Pirates of the Burning sea is for you.  Sailing is easy but to outmanouver another player take real skill.

Too much whinning. If they took out artillery from the game you noobs would be complaining about something else.

1. I'm in a tier 3 tank and every shot at the back of a tier 7 and up tank bounces. what do they expect me to do? Why do they put me in  with them?

Short answer- you are the scouts for the artillery and the heavy tanks. Wait till the other side spreads out then  use the  speed and what skills you have to  light up the enemy arty and heavies? Did You forget to upgrade your raidio?

Every radio has a communication range that alerts everyone in range on your side where the enemy is hiding.

Everyone that moves from a tier 1-2 game has to learn a new skill set. You can no longer rush to the other side with guns blazing and expect to win. You can still be usefull by scouting the other sides positions or take out their scouts when they try and sneak over to yours. If you get lucky and make it over to their side without dying you get to kill their arty. and tie up or wreck their attack. I have seen some really good panzer 3 drivers being chased by over half the enemy team most of a match. We won the match easily. Our tanks just drove up in small groups and picked off their heavies who had no idea we were there. I iknow this because when you get killed in a battle you can right click your mouse  jump to a working tank on your side. It was amazing to behold.  If the other side don't try and take you out then your speed will allow you to get behind every arty and kill them with He.

Sure artillery can kill anything on the map but they are made of glass. Get to the side or behind them and they have no teeth. Shells are expensive and little by little they are making  the shells miss more often. I don't know anyone that plays arty that doesn't worry about enemy scouts during a game or even being counter-batteryed.
