While I am all for disabled persons needs being met within reason, this is over the top as are many of the standards being imposed for the sake of accessibility.

As an aside, the WoW mods are user created are they not?  They are not made by Blizzard themselves are they?

From the GameSpot article:
"For instance, Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft allows the use of third-party mods in its game, which has led to the creation of several programs to include accessibility aids in the game."

You're correct.

As someone who is 5'1" IRL I actually prefer tall races. Figures! (iksar, galka...)

In my experiance I found that both WoW & EQ2 have alot of emos in them. Especially if your in the General world chat your going to meet alot of powergamers (People that take the game too seriously), and adults acting like kids on there.

All you have to say in EQ2 chat is ...

"World of Warcraft is a great game."

You will have 20 people whispering you calling you names, and how much of a worthless waste of space you are at that very moment and arguing amongst each other about wow for the next hour. I don't even like WoW, but it's always funny to see how nieve, and ignorant some people can really be in these games.

To be fair, if you do that in other MMORPGs, you'll get called a whole slew of things. But yeah some EQ2 people are really immature, the server Nagafen is pretty much the hellhole of EQ2.

Gekkeiju Online. I don't think what I can describe is OK by the TOS here. Let's just say your character, regardless of gender, was "used" by an orc and wakes up right after it. Then every character swears in dialogue. Also, animu!

How did you find that game and whats "animu"?

My worst is a web browser MMO that I have forgotten the name of.

The graphics looked like something from over twelve years ago and after a few minutes of playing it I uninstalled it.

Oh yeah, and Runescape of course.

I cant' believe how anyone would be willing to play that game.

I mean, it looks like a game for the VIC 20 home computer from the early 80's with only eight colors on screen at one time.

So yeah, I vote Runescape for being the crappiest MMO ever made in the history of man.

Runescape would have been a good MMO 25 years ago but sadly the internet hadn't been invented then and I don't count the experiments between universities in the 70's and 80's as the internet.

Animu is a mock term for anime that SA made. And I found the game from SA. Download Gekkeiju if you want to have some quick lulz.

Note I do like a few anime shows, lol.

I think my necromancer has pretty cool armor (black silk.)

I'll post my other characters later.

EQ2 has the worst armor designs in any MMO, they never bother to release genuwinly new armors, you know with new mesh designs instead of obvious reskins. Or what about the fugly robes, there is only one real robe design in the entire game! It's seriously sad! Even EQ1 has better looking armors and variety!

New Lavastorm armor. Check it out, man. Some of the color combinations are eh but some are awesome.

I reactivated EQ2 and have been playing for about 2 weeks now, and I have to say I found the community to be suprisingly horrible.  I'm currently playing on nagafen, so I doubt the community on my server is typical of the PvE servers, but still I was suprised by the level of immaturity, anger and hostility.  It's dissapointing, because the game looks great visually (thanks to the advice from the sticky on these forums), has great races and classes, and lots of content... but I like to have the option for at least a little PvP occasionally, and EQ2 is very all-or-nothing in that aspect.

Nagafen. That server is the worst of the worst. [Carotidcutter] memes, trolling, false suicide threats, etc etc. all over that server.

i played eq2 on the pvp server since the beginning.  A LOT of people on nagafen are just tired of the game in general, especially SOE's dev ignorance for PVP.  Many of my friends on nagafen will be coming to darkfall... once they play they'll stay too.

edit:   i see it taking a large chunk of eq2's already dieing PVP... maybe causing eq2's pvp servers their ultimate demise.    These server's deaths may free up one extra dev to help bail out the sinking ship of everquest two tho.

Uh, what? On Nagafen all I see are "lol darkfall cool story bro" and "more like darkfail." What Nagafen are you on?

As far as I know, wasn't the survey the thing they used to determine ages and BMI and depression and stuff, and no private conversations were turned over?

I think Brenlo or some other guy posted something like that.

Dark and Light by far. I don't consider EQ2 a disaster at all, Vanguard sucked at the start and was Bel-Air'd somehow, and maybe Age of Conan can pull a Vanguard. Maybe. New SWG is obviously crap though.

Darkfall? We can't tell just yet how it will do. I'm going to be honest and say that its community scares me and why can't they be more docile like LOTRO players?

Yep, enjoying EQ2. Playing as a purple frog weilding a scourge and a holy book = AWESSSOMEEE.

It's all I hear from players.

There's always a couple people on the Nagafen server going on and on about Darkfall, which causes the others to retort with "Cool story bro" and "nobody cares."

I don't think those who like the EQ2/WOW/LOTRO/etc. type of gameplay would enjoy Darkfall.

FFXI: The blue crabs, the grind, the... almost everything. Sorry FFXI fans, I couldn't get into this game. In fact I hated it. I played it for a while though. Oh well.

EDIT: A few more that I haven't played nearly as long as FFXI.

Atlantica Online: I wanted to try this game but all the graphics looked like flashing rainbow stuff and the only visible part of my character was her hair. Um. Yeah. Tried to fix this, said "forget it." Maybe I'll look again sometime.

Tales of Pirates: I'd rather play Diablo.

Runescape: Everything about this one. I played this for a few minutes when I stayed in Belize for a while. The dude at the Internet cafe said, "Oh wow, that's Runescape?" and laughed.

Maple Story: The community. Ugh.

Second Life: The lag. Oh boy the lag. [And this is coming from an EQ2 player, so...]

EVE: I would have liked it more if it had "Star Fox minus anthros" type of gameplay. It's not for me.

FusionFall: Was done playing beta. It's not a bad game but I'm playing a MMO already and 20 bucks a month for two mmos is a bit much.

Dark and Light: ... do I really have to explain?

Right, SOE pulled an NGE 2 and brought in RMT to not just EQ2, but also EQ1.  Why would Smed risk loosing tons of subscribers and possibly ruin the EQ franchise?

The answer is simple, because EQ2 and EQ1 are DEAD.  They are old news.  The people who still play (or try and play) EQ games have probably subed for a long time, and they have hung around after all the crap SOE threw at them.  The EQ2 crowd especially is used to "buying" fluff (which is all the game is about now) items through the Legends of Norrath cards, and now there is a more direct route.

No one is coming in any significant number to EQ 1 or 2 anymore.  All future SOE games will include RMT in some form.  Probably most MMO's will include it in some form.  So this was a pretty safe bet by SOE to give half of the players what they wanted and the other half really doesn't care, or else might leave.  But frankly they come and go.

The really BAD thing SOE has done is once again RUINED it's reputation among gamers.  This is where the marketing and numbers game is going to fail them.  They simply keep changing their games into cheep asian-free-to-play fluff games, while at the same time charging loads of money per month.  They own a catalog of run down, poorly launched MMO titles which in itself could be a collection of has beens or could have beens.  It's quite sad!

Blizaard will keep beating the pants off SOE just like Microsoft does with Sony.  The PS3 will not save SOE, the Agency will not save them, and their Free Realms won't.  Because Smed keeps making STUPID choices and screwing over the paying customers.

You all know this well.  But no matter the game, SOE will ruin it for everyone.  Expect it and bring your business elsewhere.

Do we need another one of these threads? I don't know where you come off saying that EQ1 and 2 are dead. Both games are far from dead, and I don't think SOE needs "saved". I could rant on and on about the stupidity of this post, but I will save my breath. Good riddance.

Yep, some people don't know what a dead game is.

No, I'm not saying TR sucks, but... well, yeah.

Congrats to LOTRO + Turbine! I should try LOTRO out or something. The fans seem incredibly docile.

It deserved it. The game has been in development since I was in elementary school. I am now in my second year of college. You just HAVE to see what's been taking them so long!

And no, I'm on the neutral side.

Age of Conan by far. Like others have said, Tortage was totally different than the rest of the game, which was broken. What I don't understand is that they've planned an expansion so soon.

Second to that? The Station Cash. I've been a longtime EQ2 fan and still am at the moment, but I really do not like SC. Ugh.

But TR and HGL's shutdowns weren't surprising, to me at least.

WAR I have no comment on, the people I know who've played it like to hop between that and EQ2 and WOW, and have an equal amount of positive and negative things to say about each.

Firstly, thank you for a response that didn't include a demand for me to quit the genre or acknowledge that my viewpoint is the cause of all global suffering.

I agree with you that people who think you need to play a game 40+ hours per week are laughable.

I agree with you that if I only have 10 hours a week to play I don't want to spend them grinding.

I agree with you that since casual gamers are the larger market that the industry is headed that way.

I don't think I will ever agree with you about RMT though. They are a con plain & simple.

You mentioned that like myself you usually play around 10-15 hours a week & have been playing MMOs for quite a while, although I am in my late forties. I also only play MMOs for a bit of fun & don't regard them as some sort of commitment on a par with marriage (tried that once, never again!).

Many similarities but I still can't understand how you think RMT (especially SOE style) are a good thing.

How on earth can a strategy that says people with less time can keep up by paying out ten times as much money be considered 'Casual Friendly'? Seems pretty damn hostile to me.

Let's say that I play EQ2 for 10 hours a week, but my buddy with more time plays 15 hours.  Using the new SOE RMT Shop that sells 'Casual Friendly' Potions allowing a two hour 50% XP bonus, I could keep up with my friend by knocking them back continually & getting through 5 bottles a week.

So my friend pays $10 per month to play, but I end up paying $210. Just how is that 'Casual Friendly'?

If my buddy played 20 hours a week then I couldn't keep up at all, until SOE bring out 'Super Potions' that give a 100% XP Bonus for just $15 of course.

I haven't looked into the way SOE is handling their RMT; but I would certainly agree that adding RMT to a game that is already subject to a subscription fee is a blatant money-grabbing con; and it doesn't surprise me one iota that it's SOE that is is seemingly involved in that strategy.

The first flaw in the 'RMT' is 'Casual Friendly' argument is the assumption that people with less time should feel obliged to keep up with everyone else. I always try to join a good guild because it makes the game much more enjoyable, but I wouldn't join one where they expected me to either spend large amounts of time or large amounts of cash.

The second flaw is the assumption that only 'Casual Players' use 'RMT' for benign reasons. Once a two tier system exists, those with money to waste will exploit it & the game alters for everyone else too.

Think that it will always only be 'Fluff Potions'?

What's the point of having all that extra XP if you can't afford the 'Armour & Weapon' upgrades? If it's OK to buy XP, then why not just sell upgrades as well or even 'Gold'?

I don't care if I level far slower than anyone else or have less Gold, if the game wasn't fun to play without paying out extra cash to cheat then I would simply find something else that was.

Just my opinion, all others are equally valid.

To clarify my position; I do maintain that a big-budget F2P MMO with an RMT "fluff" itemshop is viable.

The argument could be made that the RMT in this game could be a rip-off and yes that is a possibility.. but when you consider that (excluding box sales) the MMO in question would be reliant on the RMT to recoup their development/maintenance costs and make a profit; they would by have to keep the prices reasonable in order to ensure a steady stream of revenue.

There's a reason why the current big MMOs don't have subscription fees of £50 a month; it's not altruism, it's just that no-one would pay it.

It's the players who vote with their wallets who keep these prices low. The same principle would apply in an MMO without a subscription that was wholly reliant on it's RMT sales.

The second argument that is often made is that an MMO reliant on RMT would slowly begin to alter the content to the level to the extent that it became an absolutely necessity for every player to own items that were only available by RMT.

That is a very valid concern; I've already stated several times in this thread that I'm against RMT systems that offer overpowered items; if the hypothetical RMT-reliant MMO started doing so, I would just move to a different MMO.

However, I do not see a problem the following scenario:

An MMO contains a horse that allows you to travel at 150% speed. It is white and can be bought for in-game currency.
The MMO also contains a horse that has the same speed bonus but is black. It can only be bought by players who have spent ~20 hours killing badgers or paid £x to the item-shop.

It's a cosmetic item; it doesn't affect game-balance and is available to both people who want to use the item-shop and those who don't. I would also expect for the item to be bound to the player to prevent resale/corruption of the player economy.

And to the other posters who have responded in this thread with such inanities as:

"You're not a gamer because you don't like to grind."
"Go play a single-player game"
"You're destroying the genre" etc..

You can save yourselves the RSI and stop taking everything so personally.

That's an actually an interesting way to look at it, and I've already submitted it as feedback to the Station Cash feedback thread on the official EQ2 forums (they are reading it, since some forum mods and admins are being all OCD on where feedback and wishlists go. Whether they are taking it into consideration or not is obviously a different story.)

I'm one of those EQ2 players that are waiting and seeing what happens (EQ2 may be my last P2P MMORPG for a while) and I wouldn't mind something like that so much. I mean I'm pretty "" at SOE right now but not as much as I was with Square, but that's a different story.

(Also, I think the XP potions are pretty lame since XP in EQ2 is similar to WoW's anyway, these days. The AA XP potions kind of pissed me off though.)

Second Life is the epitome of creepy. Well-designed worlds are terribly overshadowed by wacky gothic furry sex clubs.

I think that would be a hit. 14.95 per month for Gothic Furry Sex Club Online. GFSCO.

That's a money maker right there.

You can put the wacky in an expansion pack.

It sure would make money!
