So people say GW2 is now all about gear grind.
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 11/24/12 5:27:15 AM
Originally posted by JoeyMMO Mybe, just maybe everyone on your server already got that stuff so now they moved on to new goals? It happens all the time in MMOs. If you progress too slowly you get left behind. This is why so many people play MMOs on day one and rush to max level. they want to stck with the majority of the population and get all the cool stuff with them because the more people that do it, the easier it is. On my server I see the same thing. Players that took their time. Just hitting 80 a week or so ago and begging for runs through stuff that we all did the first month of release. |

General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 11/24/12 5:24:35 AM
GW2 is about an Optional gear grind... Once i hit 80 on my ranger and crafted quality stuff for myself I was done. It was my choice to look at the dungeon vendors and it was my choice to focus on a set of gear that hardly had any statistical benefit. It looked cool and I wanted it. Its no different that doing repeatable events in WoW or Rift for a cosmetic item or mount. You don't need it, but it appeals to you because it makes you look bad ass. |

Originally posted by Foomerang It's not an agenda... Its a fact that once you add a progression raid system in your game it becomes the focus. You say you don't raid, fine but im pretty sure you have an underpowered character that many would consider worthless. Maybe the OP could play like you? Who knows. Maybe he could play in a bubble and ignore the entire community around him. Maybe he would be happy doing half the DPs a raid tank does, maybe he's cool with getting booted out of groups because all you have is garbage dungeon gear on? We should ask him. |

Patch 1.6 is on PTS - new Warzone, heroic Space missions and more

Originally posted by Foomerang Rift is all about raiding, everything else is secondary. If you don't have the best items, if you arent in the high tier raid guilds you are nothing. Its not in my head, it's how progression based raid games have worked since EQ.
OP don't let these guys spin the BS. Rift = Raiding. If you dont want to raid find another game. |

It's an even bigger raid game than WoW... Sure you can do other things but you would be considered a second class citizen. I don't know about you but I dont like being looked down upon in a game. |

Is Blizzard lying about WoW Sub #s ?
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 11/23/12 10:46:24 AM
It doesn't matter if you pay 15 bucks or 5 cents a month. If you pay for WoW at all you are counted. I'm not going to waste my time trying it discredit 10 million subs. They have 10 million active paying accounts even if different countries have different payment methods. |

[Column] Star Wars: The Old Republic: Is SWTOR Moving Toward the Dark Side or the Light?

Originally posted by Bynt Good post. I'm playing this game with my 8 year old son. He loves it. I hope EA/Bioware make enough money off of this to make SWTOR have a good endgame. Sorry Section X and a couple raids arent endgame. THe game needs more Operations, more endgame worlds, more warzones, more flashpoints and a ton of fluff. maybe we will get luck and an Expansion will release with new classes and legit Star wars races like the ones we saw in SWG. |

As a leveling player the f2p restrictions dont hit you hard. You get 100% all missions for free You get all classes for free You get sprint at 15, Speeder training at 25 You get two action bars (Enough for skills to 50 as long as u access buffs through skill panel) You get two out of three crew skills (it costs less than 5 dollars to unlock the third or you can purchase this out of the AH) You only get two auction house slots ( ive been able to make money with this restriction) Commendations are capped at 20 (hasent really been a problem for me) Credit cap set at 250k to 350k depending on the type of f2p player you are. This is meaningless for leveling players. You cant wear purple gear. Honestly this is a good thing. You dont need purple items. You can level using orange, blues & greens. Use the purples to sell in AH so you can unlock cartel items through the AH.
I agree that F2p hits returning endgame players hard, but for people wanting to level up a couple classes its pretty great.

Planetside 2 = MMOFPS Firefall = MMORPG FPS Maybe you should try Firefall? its f2p. It has a world with missions and other traditional mmorpg features. PLanetside is basically battlefield 3 only 10 times the size. |

Originally posted by Kalafax I love the game, my complaint wasn't with the long treks so much as the big dead world we play on. They could spruce it up a bit, make the world feel like a living breathing thing. Its not that big of a complaint to be honest and wont stop me from playing. Its just something that i wonder when i am on my treks here and there. |

Im looking at this new content and not seeing how A-net went against its original design. THey said you wouldn't grind for items. Whats a grind? Its running the same content over and over in hopes of obtaining a reward. Last I checked the dungeon was random (the zone has random events also). You run 3 levels that are randomly pulled from 9. You get a unique experience everytime you run the dungeon. How is that grinding?
I think its come to the point that if you have to do anything for an extended period of time people will cry and say its grinding...

Originally posted by Vhaln You dont like the new zone? or the dungeon?? I have one level 80 ranger, im still doing map completion with that guy while leveling a Necro & Eng.
Edit: I've played a ton of MMOs and honestly its always the same. You level, hit max level, max out a craft or two, dungeon run for gear, pvp for gear (cosmetic or stat based) and wait for more content. Wow, Rift, SWTOR, LOTRO, AOC, WAR, AION, TERA, TSW, EQ2, Vanguard... i can go on and on. All of them offer a similar end goal.

its second behind WoW in the MMORPG category. WoW, GW2, SWTOR, AION, EVE, LOTRO in that order. it seems to be doing well overall. |

Which is the most annoying type of player in a sandbox mmo?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/20/12 8:38:59 AM
The entitled griefer. The ones that think they are entitled to 100% freedom to ruin someones day while the players that dont want any part of that action are either forced to get protection or be locked up in 5% of the game world like prisoners in a camp. I've have arguments with these guys for hours that think this is perfectly ok...
They are the kryptonite of the sandbox sub-genre and most don't realize it. |
