MMO's should delight not challenge our endurance!

Very good post.. this summed up much of what i was thinking about MMO's last 2 years.. Lot's of people do not really get what roleplay actually is. It really does not require much effort to roleplay at all, it's just up to your imagination and how you decide to play a game. And tada, your roleplaying... When I play battlefield, I imagine my self being Rambo:p, and behave like Rambo would.. I mean,, take risks and fear no one etc... It helps me enjoy the game more and I actually get better at killing others then I usually am, because as a real person I'm not that competitive so I wouldn't be that good if I was playing as my self. Roleplaying games are specifically designed for players that want to roleplay with others. Because when I'm roleplaying rambo on battlefield, noone knows that but me.. The game simply does not have the tools like a rolplaying game to show what kind of character I am. I think that the mmo industry has confused a lot of people by separating roleplay and pvp. Like they were 2 totally different styles of play. Some actually think PVP is just combat.. ehm.. for a sec think. Player versus Player. Does it say it has to be combat, implying physical damage on the other player? no.. It means Play against others in any way the game allows you to. Just by being a trader you are competing against other traders. Thats why I do not like games where they have servers for pvp and servers for roleplay.. because those 2 cannot be separated. You will still be playing a role on a pvp server, and you will still have to pvp on a roleplay server. |

i always get pulled to eve by its looks and sci-fi theme.. and always want to give it another chanse.. but whenever i start playing it i realize why i keep quitting..

only thing that closed was the EU server.. there were 2 servers.. US and EU.. now its one, World wide server.. but that was summer 2005.
edit: btw.. maybe the code problem is something with the type of browser.. try i.explorer.. since it's a pretty old website.. |

Shouldn't mmo gamers in 2007 be ASHAMED of the shallow, non-challenging mmo that we have embraced??

I really do not see how a point click game can be challenging at all.. I have played AO, EVE, WOW..
AO and WoW, both require leveling hours after hours to kill some meaningless creature,, be it sci-fi or fantasy.. None of them are FPS.. iImean. you just stand or jump and click some commands to shoot, kick or cast some magical spell. Where is the player skill in this kind of gameplay ??? Eve pvp or pve??? wtf.. click click clikck, buy sell, click cli.. u get the point? wow amazing planet and thats all.. space game should be FPS. SWG JTL, nice.. but would space sim is more of my style.. Seen how they fly on Battlestar galactica series.. well that. So I play this old game called Jumpgate.. witch as announced will have its deserved overhaul on AI and graphix.. Try a FPS being mmorpg or multiplayer (Battlefield), and then come back and talk about PVP skill, cause PVP means actually Player versus Player.. I dont see any playerskill in todays fantasy click games witch dont require playerimprovement. Leveling your character is not a skill. |

I played Vendetta online, it is not the same as Jumpgate. The physics were something between arcade and no gravity. It was very hard to get used to.. It felt like you were flying elephants.. IMHO
On another note.. Freelancer does not have better physics then Jumpgate. Freelancer is an single/multi player arcade game. I loved freelancer because of the story.. but thats all, its is not a mmo, and cannot be compared to one. Freelancer has the same physics as SWG JTLS I believe.. I played that one aswell, Found only NPC in space.. Anyway, Jumpgate is getting a MAJOR upgrade according to Netdevil president Scott Brown. wow is about quests, exploring, pvp, not about settling down and making kids.. and getting a house.
besides.. houses make lag. houses is stupid idea..!!! even worse then the wheel. |
