I will only respond to the first part of your rant, about the 6 power trays.

First I bet you never played Guild Wars or plan on playing Guild wars 2. In Guild wars you had 8 slots that could be filled between 2 classes. With a total close to 100 or more. (Don't remember the actual skills available). You had to load your spells/combat arts before you left the city or hubs, and could not change them in combat either. Guild wars 2 will be based on what weapon you have out and will only be able to use 5 or 6 at any time also. So what you are saying is not new, nor does it make the game incomplete.

what it does mean is that you will have to choose your abilites wisely based on a number of things. Where you are going, who will be with etc. Which in my opinion makes the game that much more interesting and challenging to play.

For the rest of your post, I just dont' see it. I find the game fun and the different power sets to be just that different.  I have been in groups where the the tank does his job just fine holding agro. I find it loads of fun swtiching from dps to controler during battles. I have not tried the healer role yet, but I'm sure it will feel different to the other roles I have been playing.

Just because the game is not for you, does not mean it is not for others. So to tell players not to play based on your misconceptions is just wrong.

The Motherboard you chose will not work with your cpu. Your cpu is Intel. The motherboard is for AMD.

I would recommend this board instead.

The memory and video card is fine.

I thought I would make a thread in which people can address the preferences they like/love about their special MMO.

I will start:

1)  You prefer a big world with meaningful travel

2) You prefer a big world with fast travel

3) You prefer an instanced world

4) You prefer open world pvp

5) You prefer specific pvp areas

6) You prefer free to play with micro transactions rather than subscription model

7) You prefer subscription model rather than free to play with micro transactions

8) Character class system

9)  Classless system -- As long as it has a cap system.

10) free for all pvp -- As long as it is meaningful, unlike Darkfall's, where gear is too easy to get and a lack of a good death penalty.

11)  faction based pvp (min three factions)

12)  faction based pvp (two factions)

13) Big updates to content but take longer to implement

14) Smaller updates done frequently

15) Full loot pvp

16) No loot pvp

17) Auction houses

18) Player made trading done face to face

19)  Housing

20) No housing, just npc cities

21)  Sieges

22) No sieging

23) Tab target systems

24) FPS like target systems

25) third person pov

26) First person pov

All I can think of for now.  Here are my preferences:  1, 4, 7, 9, 10, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20, 24, 26

With the exceptions I marked above, I love all these things except. for 20, and 26.  For me, Housing needs to be in game to feel like a virtual world. I'm also vain enough. I like seeing my avatar.

Stability - Grade: B+

(-) it can be very difficult to connect to the game due to frequent disconnects while logging in. Aventurine claims the disconnects are caused by various ISPs not handling network traffic correctly. I'm not a network engineer, but I know BS when I hear it.

(+) no crashes: once you get into the game, it's stable.

I was going to take the time and respond to your points but I tend to distrust folks with attitudes as the one conveyed above.  I've played since beta on both EU and NA servers and the "connect" issue is recent and not related to the "game".   AV had explained it and is working on it.

One thing - If you are going to write all this stuff up and so much of it can be impacted by your rig and connection, you should include your system details, location and server connected to.

No worries though, I'm sure some who have never played, played a year or so ago, or merely played the trial will enjoy discussing all this with you. -)

Good luck on the next game you "try". -CC

You may want to read the op's post again. he stated he subscribed.

Seems odd though that the connection error is only happening with darkfall and no other game that I'm aware of. Would seem that the issue is on their end.

Well I tried the game for a couple of days, and decided it was not for me.

I found the tutorial section of the game to be very boring. I really hated the, I guess you would call them interactive cut scenes? Where something is happening and all you can do is stand there and watch. I felt like I was watching a story instead of being the story. It just did not get me immersed. Once out of the begining area i explored for awhile, but really didn't find anything exciting enough to stay.

I was hoping for something to spark my interest. I made a hunter and found him boring to play. I tried to make another class. But after reading the little explanation boxes on the classes they just didn't suit my play style. Plus i don't like the way the character models look.

I do hope the game does well and by what I have read it seems to be doing just that.

I probably would not have stayed after level 20 anyways. I just don't think paying for content is the right way to go about it. There are plenty of FTP games and none of them that I'm aware of charge for content.  I would have had no problem paying for classes or races if any suited me. I don't have a problem with having to buy more bag space/bank space. I didn't even mind the fact that I could not use the auction house. I think not having the auction house could bring the community closer together. Making people buy and sell in person is a great way to make friends, in my opinion. But having to pay for quests to unlock zones is a bit to much.

Thanks for the information.

Question, Is there anyway to bypass the tutorial? I downloaded the game last night and started playing and I find that the tutorial experience is horrible. To small, no way to just explore and I find the quests boring. I would just like to pick what quests i want and explore.

Also is there a way to change the timing on the follow camera? I find there is a delay from the time you turn your toon to the camera responds to it.

I would like to play the game my way which is not by following a slow boring story. (To me) So any help would be appreciated.

I don't normally mess with SOE too much as their style has been high-handed (to say the least) in the past, but I am seriously thinking about playing this one.

My only conerns are the depth of content and that the current descriptions of gameplay elements lead me to believe that the game may actually be "full-time open world PvP", which is of no interest to me.

I am almost positive that there will be different servers.  There will PVE servers and PVP servers.  The PVE servers will have pvp arenas if you decide you would like to participate. but you are not required to play in them for progression.

As far as depth of content. I don't think anyone will know until we can actually play the game, and then it will still be subjective to the individuals playing. For some it might be enough for others not so much.

If you go to DCUO's website under media. There a quite a few videos with the dev's discussing the game and answering questions from facebook posters.

Well thank you all for your answers. My friends have also been following the thread, and a couple have decided to give the game a try.  The rest of us will go on their recommendation.

So thanks again, and enjoy.

Agricola1, Thanks for the response.

For the Piercing I'm talking about would be animations or actual skills where you can sneak up behind a person and stab them in the back or neck, etc.

7) Did Aventurine add any type of death penalty, besides full loot? Full loot is not enough for me and my friends.

You can always make your own death penalty if full loot isn't hardcore enough.  Everytime you die, delete your character and create a new one.

Thanks, But I'm not talking about Perma Death. Something a little less than that. Like loss of skills/abilities you have to regain again.

I have been very critical of Aventurine in the past. Not the game just the people behind it. However after reading the latest posts, it seems the game has improved and my friends and I are thinking of signing up.

We plan on being pirates in the true sense of the meaning. We don't want to join a clan or start one up. We will work together to meet our needs, but it is every man for him/herself otherwise. So with that said we have a few questions:

1) Can a group of say 5-10 players non - clanned affect a player city? Could we Tear down the walls, buildings etc. If we were lucky enough to get the time to do it? Also would we be able to destroy the clan stone? You know really pillage and plunder the city?

2) Could we get involved in a war and take on both sides, to cause more conflict and strife?

3) If we join and can get a ship, is there Ramming allowed?

4) For player skills did they add any type of piercing/stabbing skills, or is it still just the side to side swing, and the over the head swing?

5) Is there now true jousting? Not just swing your weapon while on a mount.

6) One personal question, I'm not big on bows and arrows. Are there other types of ranged weapons such as throwing knives, Stars, etc.?

7) Did Aventurine add any type of death penalty, besides full loot? Full loot is not enough for me and my friends.

I and my fellow friends look forward to your answers. I do hope that these things are in game. Especially the death penalty. That is a deal breaker. No penalty no play. Makes the game just a little to carebear for us. We would go to Mortal Online, But I for one don't like being in First person view all the time.

I must say that what Darthraiden wrote is one of the better statements in the Darkfall forum. Its that good that it maybe will make me try this game after all :)

But then again I dont trust mmos that cant give me a trial of their super fun (and happy) game.

I doubt any sort of trial can really give you enough time to train the skills and make the social contacts that you'd need to survive in Darkfall.  As such, you'd end up walking away from it posting how much it sucks because you got ganked repeatedly in the new player zones and could hardly kill a goblin.  (EVE sufferes from this same phenomenon)

I understand why they don't waste the resources on free trials, the bad would outweigh the good.

What are you talking about, EVE has a free trial thats what got most of my friends into it.

EvE also didn't do a trial for like 3 years

Actually Eve had free trials the day  the game released. Free trials were found on cd's from gaming Magazines such as PCGamer.  They have changed the Trial a few times, but it has always been there.

Darkfall having a free trial could help.

Eh, you do realise that you would support Avi even if the game had another publisher and you bought it?

Anyone playing WAR in EU will give GOA money, who pays half or so to Mythic, therefore supporting Mythic.

Yes I do know that.  How ever if I was going through a puplisher then Aventurine would not be liars now would they. At least on this topic. The way I see it if they actually was telling the truth on the publisher then I had hope they were starting to change their ways, and that I would support.  I guess I was hoping they would be more like MO's devs and keeping the fans updated with truthful information.

Oh well.

For those that are playing. Enjoy yourselves while you can.

For those that are waiting for the transfers. I'm sorry but I feel your being screwed over . Having to pay a fee, not being able to take anything with you that you worked hard for, and what other restrictions they will be throwing your way.

As for some of the fans All I will say is learn to debate in a logical fashion. You mostly talk crap with no meaning and try to change the topic of the threads. You know who you are,so I won't say names. There are a few who had good, intelligent thoughts and could debate a subject and I will miss that.

I won't be back to these forums. No need to. The game will die in a very short time. Not due to a bad game but the bad company behind it.

Adios.

I wouldn't count on a trial anytime soon. We still don't even know who the publisher is.

I'm not in a hurry. Recent MMO releases (including this one) show that there is no need to hurry up and grab a box if you want a solid and polished game because most of the time the game is released with promissed features not being in the game, and can't really blame them when they take longer than their budget allows them.

I was hoping to get in on release day. But since I care about who I am sending my money to, I will be like you. Patient.

Well according to Darkfall's forums the new NA website is going up Monday. Does that mean the the sales will start then also? Or is it that the NA release will be delayed again?

I don't like the fact that I don't know who the publisher is, or who will be doing the billing. I didn't buy the EU version due to that fact. They have a company for the billing that as far as I can tell is not a well known company, and look at the problems that was posted with all the double billing etc.

Aventurine has done a good step forward with the last expansion/patch. I still need another step woth more information on the publisher.

Just wanted to to bump this in the hopes that someone has some new information.

I think the biggest questions, no matter how you want to call this. Will it bring back players? Will the population grow?

If not it is all mute. A game like Darkfall needs a large player base. Right now that base is small.
