Yeah, you're wrong in saying it's for casual gamers. It's actually for non-gamers. Click a skill, and just turn off the computer for a week or so, and come back.

Never has a game encouraged you to not play more than EVE Online has... well, next to Runescape.

That's not entirely accurate, as you need money to buy those skills. Most MMOs will have you chasing XP, EVE has players chasing ISK instead.

Regarding COSMOS, I'm pretty much of the same opinion as surfsk8snow, it's where they could go with it in the future that is the most exciting.

And, speak of the devil, specialised cargo bays have just turned up on the test server; for capital ships, as well as the black ops battleships.

"the fiery argument over the profession of ninja salvaging (the salvaging of a wreck that doesn't belong to you)."

This is a fundamental misunderstanding about wrecks.

Wrecks don't belong to anyone, so by this definition everyone is a ninja salvager.

Wrecks do technically belong to someone, in the sense that every wreck is marked with the corporation tag of the player it belonged to, or, in the case of NPCs, the corporation that destroyed it, which is probably why some people get so upset about it.

You are right, though, in that it's more a case or percieved ownership.

Ah, I was mistaken then. I don't know much about the mining side of EVE, so I assumed that jet-can mining was a common method, even for barges.

I dream with T3 mining ships, ore-specific cargo bays ("moar" ore per run please) and mining-related rigs.

I've been thinking about what will happen if they start to roll out specialised bays on more ships, and I think ore bays might be a bit controversial. On haulers, or something like the Orca, they'd be fine, but if, say, a mining barge can hold masses of ore in its hold it might remove the need to use the player-created method of jet-can mining, which then has a knock-on effect on the people who steal from said cans.

It might not seem like much, but it would be quite a significant change to high security space.

Maybe they could work on some proper search engine? When you have to use one of the fan's site to browse your own forums is a bit of fail...

The forums are also getting an overhaul around the same time, so we can hope.

As for complaints about the content of the winter expansion, we know practically nothing about it at the moment. After 1.5 we should start getting some proper information, so I'm waiting until then before passing judgement of whether it might be good or not.

Actually there is a dev blog saying in August is coming a patch that will introduce some LP rewards for FW.

There is indeed. I sent this article off just before that blog appeared, so I'll be writing about the contents for my next article.

Unfortunately, my prediction of a June release for the new patch was a bit off and we're still waiting for the t3 component changes. :(

This is one of the best accounts I've seen about exploting WH space:

http://www.eve-search.com/thread/1038042/page/1#1

It also mentions that they were able to solo class 3 anomalies (which I believe are lower-medium difficulty) in command ships, so I'm assuming it would be entirely possible to solo the easier encounters in a Battlecruiser or Battleship, it'll just take longer.

Cheers for the comments, any criticism you guys have to offer is appreciated.

Well....

Here's a link to the EVE university homepage that has all the information you need, should you decide to join.

Apologies for the poor quality on the screenshots, it's something I'm looking into.

There are many things that exist in EVE but aren't actually avaliable to the players, or work. CCP in particular used to have GMs/Devs running around in tech five battleships that are probably still in the database. I'm think some people still have mines, for example, but they cannot be deployed.

That Khanid Apoc looks badass, though.

The first of many Apocrypha dev blogs.

The new scanning mechanics are a welcome change, and wormhole space looks very interesting indeed.

I guarantee Ambulation (or Walking in Stations) will bring in a lot of new people who will never undock except to get to another station in their shuttle.  But this is a good thing - this should be the starting point for a whole new avatar-based game in EvE that can exist alongside the space-based game (and hopefully a planetary based game eventually).  Ambulation is exactly what this game needs to get it growing at a good clip again.

I agree with this. There are enough people already making money without ever having to leave the station (through lotteries, poker, market trading, even scams) and ambulation, with it's various mini-games is going to lead to more people making money that way. I know I will be getting involved.

EVE does not need more carebears. if you suggest something that reduces pvp then even is better off without you.

That is a just silly; people should be able to choose their own path, whether it's combat or not. It's a player run economy and dedicated industrialists are a necessary part of it. Who do you think produces all the ships?

Yes. The thing to remember is that mining and mission running make up the majority of a new player's free trial, so if they are improved then there is more chance that they will want to stick around.

I never would have guess that the new ships would have industrial modules, maybe they are going to give the carbears their "teeth".

The thing with veteran players getting screwed over in EVE is that they really should know better. The Nano-BS, the Nano-Nos-Dominix, the Gisti-Crow; all of these things have been seen to be overpowered and re-balanced over the years and the Nano-Hacs are just the latest addition. I'm not going to bet money on it, but I reckon there's a good chance we'll see ECM/Falcons get looked at in a similar way before the year is out.

Battleships are slightly different story, as they weren't overpowered per se, but things like webs needed to be changed as they stopped any of the lighter ship classes being effective in web range while making sub-10k warfare a boring slugfest , and it's not like the changes made BSs redundant, either.

2008 was a year of nerfs for this game which already made you kinda sleepy.

Like all of the changes, it really depends on your ship of choice. Frigates got mad love this year-no more getting outrun by MWDing battleships- and even destroyers got brought back to life for a bit with Factional Warfare.
