Beta-Review FFXIV(About a week til Launch)

Just a quick question to Gurps. Why are you relying so heavily on what the Beta Manual states? Do you believe everything you read on the internet? I sure hope not. |

There might be a ton of things to do but they are all solo. There are a few quests that require a group due to amped up quest mobs. I played Aion as well and was turned off by the endless grind feeling but I will say that there were plenty more groups when I played Aion. |

I really like this game at first. I still do and would probably go back if there were some PvE grouping. Sure one can force themselves to group for any PvE but it is not really needed at all. There are only a few places in the game that need a group for quests. I play MMO's to group with other people. This game felt like a single player game with MMO as an after thought, as it pertains to PvE. I know I will probably get flamed that I did not play long enough but I assure you that I was in a clan with max levels and all levels in between and they verified that the PvE content rarely requires a group or even a partner. I am not going to take some random peoples word in a forum and spend a lot of time playing with the hopes that the random people from the forums were right... Anyways take my short blip of a review however one wants to take it. I am just adding my experience into the mix. And like I said, I do not disagree that this game is a fun game, just a little too solo for my taste. |

General: Top Ten Games That Should Be MMOs
News Discussion « General Discussion 4/29/09 4:18:17 PM
I did not get a chance to read through all the pages here but I did not see a mention of the Nightwatch (Daywatch and Twilightwatch also) series being an idea for an mmorpg. If anyone has read the books (Not just watched the movies since the movies only brush the surface of the first book) then I hope you would agree it would make an interesting mmorpg or even just a single player rpg. I know a company made a single player game out of the first book I think but it was horrible. |

I personally believe that after all the feedback from the first round of beta testing that went on, they determined that most testers thought of the game as a poor Tabula Rasa clone and are in the process of redoing a bunch of aspects of the game, and no doubt trying to justify this to their publishers. Of course that might just be my hopes. |

The "new" screen shots they posted are of things that were already in the alpha game back in late 2008 before they shut the game down for more internal testing. |

The way the players responded to their survey sounds amazingly similar to the way the "Hawthorne effect" causes subjects to react in an abnormal way when they know they are being observed/studied. |

There are some nVidia cards (Geforce 9600 512mb 128bit) in the $50 range that might play AoC but it would look pretty bad. The comparable ATI card would be the Radeon HD 2400/2600PRO. |

I do not want to feed you, since I know you are a troll, but I would love to see your proof that there are technical issues and community issues. Obviously development issues are present since the game was recently purchased by Spiderweb International but this development company has plenty of potential and I have faith in them. I currently play the game and experience nothing in the realm of technical issues or community issues. Maybe you have set your bar so high because of WoW? |

I read it carefully. I realize it was sarcasim. You might need to take you own advice about reading carefully. That is why I asked if the OP had any real knowledge about whether or not the things he claim are not going to be in the game at launch. |

I guess I will take the bait. Are you guessing or actually have first hand knowledge of any of the things you claim. |

Free to play? Does this mean it's not closing down or still closing?
General Discussion « Tabula Rasa 12/22/08 3:06:55 PM
Unless there was something I did not hear about, I believe it will be shut-down for good sometime in Janurary. There is a small chance another company might pick this game up but I would not put to much faith in that idea. It has happened in the past with other games (Ryzom comes to mind since I recently went back to playing) but with the way the financial markets are the chances are probably slightly lower. If you have nothing else to play you should check out Ryzom, since it is free to play until the company that took over gets their payment plan in order (which should be at the beginning of next year). |

Wow, mod power to the rescue? I wonder why I still come to this website... |

Higher security systems are pretty much safe areas. People rarely attack others in high sec systems because the NPC security forces will insta-kill the attacker(s) before they can destroy the preys ship. |

Anarchy Online is sci-fi, has a lot of depth and is still pretty fun. |

Well Adventurine SA is not publishing the game themselves, unless Audiovisual SA (the Darkfall publisher) is a part of Adventurine SA (which I cannot find any proof of). The publisher usually tells the developer how much they are willing to give the devloper for advertising. The more money they allot the developer for advertising the better return the publisher will see on their investment. I agree that so far it seems the advertising is lacking. |

The MMO market is already over-saturated with games similar to Fable. The only thing Fable would bring is the small amount of lore it has. I suppose if they figured out how to actually implement a system where a characters action truely affected the entire game world, then it would be pretty neat. I suppose if Fable 2 is better than the first one they might think about making an MMO. *Edited* This link www.gamerstemple.com/NewsPlus/NPViewArticle.asp reveals that there will be a multiplayer aspect for Fable 2 on Xbox 360 Live. |

Well if the things he brings up in his post are actual facts, as in real problems in the game, and if he is basing his assessment, that the game is "weak", from these facts/issues then it would seem that his assessment is "fact" as pertaining to his issues. |
