I also tried AoC, guild wars, and Eve. Does anyone know a MMO thats different, something that would keep me entertained?

Try the chronicles of spellborn. or wait for aion or mortal online.

All of them.

At least that's what I would say if there were any worth playing. Which there aren't. *jaded* I've been keeping myself busy with school until Aion comes out. My professors are gonna shit a brick when they realize the only reason I worked so hard was cuz I had nothing better to do.

haha nice  gave me a good laugh :]

Aion's Korean open beta is now boasting concurrent user numbers of 150,000.
Since launching the service at 6am on the 11th, 150,000 players managed their way into Atreia by 11pm the same day. Aion is now operating with a total of 25 servers, with each server exceeding the 5000 player target NCsoft had set out for their servers.

Upon login, players are finding most servers on the list marked as 'full'. Taking into account all the users in queue for the servers, the number of concurrent users could possibly be seen as closer to 200,000. Considering that the launch was done on a weekday, the numbers are expected to go up as many more attempt to join over the weekend.

(ETnews reports that this is a record for a Korean developed MMO opening in Korea. The past record holders have been Lineage2 and Ragnarok 2 but even they were only able to reach 100k after a month of open beta testing. No mention of how WoW did in comparison, but WoW had over 150k concurrent users at its peak during its Korean open beta according to an interview with Mike Morhaine.)

NCsoft is now dealing with the happy dilemma of handling a much greater level of interest than they'd anticipated. Having already added 7 more servers than originally planned, continuing to add to that pool is only one way of handling the situation. The first change implemented immediately was to cut down on the scale of the promotions that were planned to begin on the 13th. This decision was made so that Aion's user base grew in increments that they could actually handle.

Unsurprisingly, many players are venting their frustration at the situation. Players that used the pre-beta services to reserve their spots had it easier, but those that didn't were having to wait in long queues just to create their characters. (note: Many of these players were sitting in netcafes as well, so you can imagine the added pressure.)

haha dang i cant wait for the us open beta :p

this game just came out seriosuly u fast levelers should have known yall are ganna have to wait and there is no way to campare this game to wow because wow had had years of patches and time to mature...

I hope the game turns out good but what asian mmo isnt a grinder ? They all seem like they are. I hope they offer a free trial so we can test it out before spending the 50-60 bucks for the box. I wasted $100 just to find out that AOC and WAR was all hype and nothing more.

ok aion is not a grinder there we go again with this o its asian so its a grinder bullshit did you not read this thread.... seriously... their making it just like or war would be in grind and thats nothing

Small difference, AoC and WAR used NDA, Aion hasn''t used it. It's way easier to make an opinion of a game if you don't rely exclusively on dev-spoonfed information.

It's a great game, and I've tested it, does it hold any weight now? I'm afraid it doesn't, however, I do think so, and I have my arguments to think so. Read my posts if you're interested on them.

Thank you Ephimero, that is a breath of fresh air seeing a beta tester of the game post like you did,  Btw, Nick you keep comparing this game to AoC and WAR. Henceforth the reason why your view is so limited. This game may have similar atributes but that (I believe) is so we wouldn't have to spend most of our time trying to figure out how to play an mmo all over again, why re-invent the wheel. It is in a class to itself and (in my personal opinion) NOT to be classified as a rip-off of any other game. I doubt anyone would take four years or so to just make a game that is a rip-off of another.

I dunno if you really wanted to chat about Aion though, I think you just wanted to correct my spelling lol

dno't wrry' me wil xpel beter nex tyme four yoo.

First of all, this is the first time that i ever compared AoC or WAR to another game.

Second of all, if you take a look at my sig, you'll see that I also am waiting (aka looking forward to) Aion.

Finally, "I doubt anyone would take four years or so to just make a game that is a rip-off of another", I think you should take a look at MMO history a little closer.

Also, I don't think there is a need to repeat my original point.

seriously i agree with you this game is nothing like any other game out or even coming out its different in a good way.

IT'S A GREAT GAME

And, you know that because you are in Closed Beta or something?

"but lets not pin the "IT'S A GREAT GAME" tag on it until it has been given a chance"

Fixed that for you.

Mindlessly calling a game "just another Asian Grinder" is just as bad as calling that game "ITS A GREAT GAME" (nothing personal intended, just an example)

sorry if this sounds smartassish but its called research..... it is a great game and its shaping up to be even better than great  just read around at all the sites/blogs that have tried it

I can personally look passed the art style (which im not a fan of at all) and from what ive seen, this game looks like a wow clone with a new skin, super shiny elf graphics, mixed with Final Fantasty or L2. Im not sure if you can say ive done my "homework" as people call it but i am not impressed as of yet buy this game. So to answer the OPs question - its VERY easy to call Aion "just another Asian grinder" because it "looks" just like one. Maybe your right and its super fun. ill play it i have no bias on what companies make games and i dont go "blah blah blah i hate EA/SOE/blizzard because they made a game". Also about all the people you quoted..i dont think thats gunna sway anyone. i could are less about what mmorpg, the escapist , MMOsite, editors have to say about it really. Maybe im totally right or maybe im gunna be eating my words but its just very VERY easy to catagorize it.

ok please there is no way this is and will ever be a wow clone in any way and yes uve definatley not done your "homework" wows graphics and style are so horrible compared to aion and the only thing this game will ever have like wow is literally levels...

im not saying i dont like that because i do i think aion is most likley ganna be the game i play even if it doenst  have aim to attack but i mean it would be better if they did add it  because right now every mmo uses the exact click to attack and it doesnt matter how in depth it is like u explained its still click to attack

Um, the last FPS I had on my computer had click to attack.  And the one before that.  And the one before that.

Could you please explain this concept?  I spend lots of time clicking on my enemies to kill them in FPS games.

i mean like in fps you aim then click unlike in mmos where u just click buttons with exception of darkfall and tcos...... thats what i ment

also edited my other post from earlier  ^^^^

You are very correct, it's about trying new things.  However, if a company creates a radical new game with super intensive graphics coupled with hack and slash game mechanics and speed in addition to collision systems and a free roaming world with thousands of players in large scale real time battles, well... theres a high probability this game will not do so well.  Now the thing is that companies ARE  improving, but due to limitations on current technology, they have to improve certain parts at a slower pace.  Not everyone has a computer powerful enough to run age of conan, not everyone has the connection speed to run darkfall, not everyone has the state of mind to enjoy the "DIsney-esque" art style of Aion, not everyone has... you get the idea.  So Games are improving slowly.

Aion does not intend to be a super revolutionary never before seen out of this world game.  It is taking concepts already stamped witha mark of approval and improving them.

People like graphics and pretty scenery? Alright, we'll give you cryengine 1 graphics, its not crysis but its better than WoW.

You like pvp?  How bout large scale siege battles for controllable Guild territory coupled with an unpredictable third NPC fation.

You like flying? We'll give you wings AND we'll give you flying COMBAT!

You like character customization?  We'll give you the best character creator ever seen in an MMORPG.

You like story mode?  We'll give ya a growth based linear storyline with ingame cutscenes accompanied by traditional MMO quests.

Don't like grind?  We'll bring it down to a "WoW level" grind just for you.

Are any of these concepts new to us? Nah, I've seen every one in a game in some form or other... hell you can find most of them in a single game.

i actually think that aion is going to beat aoc in graphics theyve said for a while its going to be the most graphichly rich mmo on the market

and yea your roght their not trying to be super revolutionary the point brought in the beginning was if aion did try a combat system like darkfalls or tcos

btw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xu4rBDeZTM

theres darkfall in action

edit : because if they did try a combat system like that this game would like i said earlier be hands down the number one game coming out. I mean i bet if i posted a poll for most anticipated games the majority would vote for darkfall or tcos because those are really anticipated because of their combat systems and aion already has a lot of anticapation dont get me wrong but it would have even more. Also it really is about mmo companies just trying and seeing what happens and thats what darkfall and tcos and about lag i know their planning for the worst and they probably already have some solutions to the problems. but like some people also said it might be too late for aion to incorporate a whole ne combat system especially with the amount of graphical detail in the game but its just and idea....

If by aim you mean general direction-then yes, 75% of MMOs use the "facing direction" style of aim.  But if by aim you mean like an FPS, that opens up a WHOLE new can of worms.  Because if you had to aim, you would need to add line of sight(IE you cant shoot a fireball through a friendly player) and if you added Line of sight you would need to add a collision system(IE you can't walk through other players).  With current technology and connection speeds, the line of sight may be plausible but the Collision system is just not realistic.  Expecially in skirmishes with up to 200 people... there is no way that such a system could be supported-properly.  Shooters are different as these are generally in arenas of 4-20 people in controlled environments with exception of the battlefield series and a few others.  But witht he sheer number of skills and outrageous abilities that you can use in MMOs, it is unlikely that such a system-an efficient one- will be implemented.

well if darkfall athe chronicles of spellborn can do it......

scions of fate = ewwww

case closed...

hmmmm idk theirs always a way to make things work but you do make a good point it might be too late i just dont think this should be another click a button to attack game  and it aso makes my decison harder if they keep it click to attack because ill have to shoose between it and tcos or darkfall......

The combat is a bit more complex than click a button. It's about skill chains with conditional effects that activate certain skills, choosing which skill to do once the skill tree opens depending on wether you want to take risk for a higher damage output or play safe and do less damage.

i know that but your are using the skill chains but your still clicking buttons instead of having control of whats happening,...
