But good pvp'ers.

You realize how unlikely this is right?

Agreed.

But now let's all pray there never will be a Fallout mmo.

Even George Lucas is appalled by this themepark mmorpgisisation of cherished IP's.

Still to early to condemn this game but, if they turn ES into your typical theme park mmo it will be a disaster before its even released. I understand the need and want to make money but, create a quality product please. I'm excited to see what Bethesda can do with the mmo genre but I'm extremely scared about the final product.

Yup. Fully seconded.

Pokket, if you read this you are entitled one free Pony ride (no whips please).

Seriously?

Listening to her, i suddenly had to think of the ReplyGirl. That's mean, but i couldn't help it =D

Maybe you can't get past the fact that she's a "hawt gurl"?

I admit I had difficulties with that at first too, but then I tried listening with my actual ears and found that she's surprisingly honest and objective compared to all the prepossessed impressions and write-ups here on mmorpg.com.

Public dungeons, teleporting from waypoint to waypoint, three faction pvp in a dedicated area over predetermined objectives ...

Looks more like GW2 than Swtor to me.

Either way it sucks that it seems to be intended as yet another themepark reinvention.

Was hoping for a more sandboxy experience as well. Content seems very much themed, orchestrated and predetermined. Fighting over the capital city with three factions and numerous of secondary objectives sounds fun but this whole "fighting over the throne" aspect is also themed, predetermined and bound to a dedicated area.

When will developers frigging learn that so many people want to be able to shape their own goals and objectives in the part of the world which they fancy most and in the role they see fit?

If I were a dictator, rulling this world, I would put all mmorpg developers in an alliance and force them to play EVE for at least a year. After that they can go back to developing games again. (CCPeople themselves and ArchAge devs are off the hook).

Still willing to cut them some slack: we'll have to see how it ends up further down the line. But going for the safe route with this and make it YET ANOTHER reinvention of the same old themepark mold is a sure way to lose my interest really fast.

The only thing they can get rid off as far as I'm concerned is teleporting. Instead they should add mounted combat. :)

This has fail written all over it, I don't see this working out in any way shape or form.  The game was built to be a single player game, putting it into an online world just isn't going to work.  Will have to see what direction they plan on taking it and see where it goes from there.

Glad to see your bad omens are based on all the information we have so far.

Wait ...

I don't feel any interest at all in the name alone, skyrim and oblivion were fun but mostly due to the modding capabilities, never truly cared much for the actual IP.

Until there is some actual information it might aswell be unanounced to me.

No YOU are unanounced to me!

now that i think of it, it cannot be as big as Skyrim. It MUST be bigger, covering every map of Tamriel. I heard something about Hero Engine, i hope they do a good job if they are planning on using that ugly little engine. But the graphics cannot look inferior to Skyrim in any way.

Hmm, they said the whole world right?

At least behind the logo in the pictures is a linear map with MW, Black Marsh, etc. I bet it will be pretty vast.

p.s. Zenimax is an ace studio in my book since FO:NV. The writing, story and environmental immersion of that game is much better than what I saw in Bethesda studio stuff (or better than any mmorpg for that matter) in my opinion.

Fallout: New Vegas was developed by Obsidian. Their writing is always solid; I find they consistently provide more depth and originality (not to mention maturity that's not in-your-face) in their games. They also tend to release their games in a somewhat unfinished state, but, eh, that's life I guess. :)

Zenimax, eh, I don't know. This can turn out to be a "Bioware Austin, NOT Bioware" deal as well... Have to wait and see.

I do like the idea of an Elder Scrolls MMO, but I don't think you can make an MMO with the immersion that Morrowind or Skyrim provides; I think that sort of immersion comes from design only single player can provide. Though it can still be very good if they work to their strengths - namely exploration and going out of their way to try and put pockets of unique experience in their games.

Ouch, seems I mixed up Zeni (the overall holding) with Obsidian >_<

Thanks for the correction. I am real bad with names, Moonlight.

Anyway, at least hoping they will be involved.

p.s. echoing your hopes.

please don't be another candy-coated, fed-ex, happy meal, free-to-play, rail-following, epeen-swelling, smack-talk, insta-gratification, carrot-dangling, false-promising, money-grabbing pile of garbage we gamers have been getting the past few years

That is all.

Couldn't have said it better. Exactly my sentiment.

p.s. can you teach me that finger temple trick? Seems to work great.

PvP focus = no thanks.

They had the opportunity to prove sandbox =/= gankfest and they ignored it.

I'll wait for the next sandbox train.

Edit: And exactly who is going to fix the hundreds/thousands of bugs this time? You can't have modders fixing code in an mmo.

Don't be such a negative Nancy, eyes :P

p.s. non-pvp focussed games, (at least games with non-consequential, zero excitement pvp), are the vast majority of games these days. I really am dead tired of gameplay which doesn't manage to challenge or excite me in the "player danger" department. Rinse and repeat pvp is not what I play mmorpg's for. So I'm hoping this time it will be a little different. Maybe not full loot and completely FFA, but at least make me want to avoid death, instead of death being just a quick way to fast travel.

Let's toast on it, lest they don't make a reinvented themepark out of it like so many other promising titles recently.

Didn't most people say that about BW before SWTOR?

Where Bioware was known for their "Typical Bioware storytelling" (trademark symbol), The Elder Scrolls, Bethsoft and Zeni, are known for their good grasp of immersive, open world, single player, sandboxy games. It isn't hard to see that this fits my (and many other people's) mmorpg gloves a whole lot more.

If they take their time and ensure that it is done right, similarlly to Anet's GW2, then yes, ESO will be epic beyond anything we've ever seen before. But... and its a big BUT... if they pull the same sh*t as they did with LOTRO, WAR and SWTOR, then ESO will be just another huge and epic dissapointment.

The danger with making mmorpgs based on hugely popular franchises is that game becoming heavily dependent on the franchise and not in the game itself. SWTOR is the best example.

Bethesda, if you're reading this please give Anet a call and get some tips from them. Avoid EA!

While we're at it, maybe we can have President Obama give ArenaNet a call to get some tips on how to run the country.  Or maybe we can get the Cancer Institute to call ArenaNet to get some tips on how to cure cancer.

Gimme a break...

Yeah, please don't call Anet, Zenimax. V_V Immersion and art of GW2 are fine but you don't really need advice on that, do you?

Already 9000 x better than GW2!!! ;-)

And Zenimax?!! <3

Really love that studio since FONV, possibly one of the best written games ever. Also one of the most immersive sprpg's I ever played.

Realy promising news.

I have actually always wanted an Elder Scrolls MMO, but at the same time, it's such a huge task and I have worried that it would get really fouled up if it ever happened.  So while I agree with your excitement.....I can't say "already 9000x better than GW2," because I have no idea what they're going to do with this HUGE and GREAT intellectual property.  There is such a massive possibility of success and also such an overwhelmingly large potential for failure....failure on a level greater than that of SWTOR, I'm afraid.  Let's hope against all hope that that does NOT come to fruition, because this could be the greatest MMO of all time.  What could match it if it was well done?  Nothing.  Earth shattering potential both for making us dance for joy or causing us to cry rivers of bitter tears.

Fully agree with you. Just was a little shocked by this news :)

Just hoping they aren't trying to reinvent the themepark mold like so many other games have tried. Player freedom, immersion and a seamless (exterior) world should be top priorities. Let's hope they get to sneak in some more sandbox too.

p.s. the GW2 remark was just a friendly poke at the GW2 fans <3
