What downfall? MMORPG's have more subscribers today than anytime in history. How is that a "downfall"?

I don't see them as "ruined" either. Perhaps you could define exactly what you mean by that.

I think the second paid subscription based game on Xfre is ... EVE. (players playing).

EVE has about 250K subs...

These numbers are the same as EQ had almost 8 years ago.The others are way behind (LOTRO and AoC just fallen behind).

So having 250K subs is a HUGE success these days, like .... 8 years ago.

The pie is divided into extreme little portions.

Nobody should base his opinions on the forums. These are toys.

I think he talks of personal experiences. And I would just follow my feelings and play the game or uninstall it. It's a little more difficult for an MMORPG as not many new become published (although ...).

If you're already asking yourself the question "Why do I NOT like this game X like I used to like game Z", there is already something between the ears of the player.

Asking this on the forum means something is wrong with the perception already.

I believe a famous MMORPG designer said once:

"the first 10 minutes are the most important minutes for a game".

He is from the WAR design team btw.No time to look up his name, but someone else can may be.

I know I sometimes uninstall a game 5 minutes after installing it. It doesn't happen too much anymore as I am happy with what I play:)

The last published MMO's seem also to have that very short life cycle.

Most people are intelligent enough to cut right through it.

Problem is : why need to search for it: if it is that good it will come to you. Perhaps you're searching too much, that's the opposite and not a very good sign either.

15 Sep + 6/7 weeks = 29Oct - 05 Nov span in my count.

I don't see why they would not folllow the exact planning TBC had. The number of Alpha weeks, number of Beta weeks, the launch of the trailer, the pre patch dates. All adds up to the same count.

It's like a swiss clock these days... ticking.

I know some must be holding their breath now before the big bang.

The pre patch launch will be uploaded onto our machines in the following days.

In TBC that was 6 weeks before launch. (Dec ->>> Jan 16th).

even talk of loading it directly from Betaserver to operational servers (they did the same thing back then I now remember PTR was passed because of Beta TBC servers).

15 Sep + 6 weeks = ???

Yep comic #10.

ATM the returning King is helping King Bronzebeard to fight off the invading Dark Iron Dwarfs at the bridge at Thandol Span. So they are not there yet.

Bronzebeard discoverd the doppelganger in SW and I suppose they now will uncover the role of Onyxia in the comic.

This would mean the whole history is changing for future adventurers....

The comic book got better past #5 and is a nice suplementary read on the places we know.

It shows Blizzard is changing the place more and more and the comic follows up almost on a monthly basis ! Knowing that it takes months of creating a strip and the series was planned more than  a year ago... that's amazing.

Talking of planning things ...

Well WAR looks like basically DAoC 2 at least from the pvp standpoint.  If that will spark massive pvp battles, who knows we'll have to wait and see.  Though they said that 2 cities and some content are going to be cut from the release, wonder if that is to make the Sept deadline?

WoW is currently in its World of GrindCraft version which came after the World of RaidCraft.  Reason there isn't much "massive" to WoW is that Blizzard wants you to be running daily quests and single group heroics over and over and over.  Raiding, which would normally encourage large groups to get together is done by a very small percentage of the population.   World pvp is, as it stands now, a joke.  I've seen Alliance wait patiently in Hellfire for a Horde to cap so they can do their daily with no fighting happening at all.

Why an example of a level 61 zone for world PvP with not even loot for level 65 +

take Halaa and the Terokkar forest: daily world PvP quests for level 70's.

On PvP servers often a blast.

OP:

TBC and the last year were a blessing for old boring WOW.

NEW : Daily quests, heroic dungeons, badge systems, general class loot (!) personal epic flying mounts, open free flight in Outland, BG gear for your alts, Arena gear on par with BT, open world PvP daily quests that actually get done on PvP servers, ... and ....

.... every 6 months a NEW motivation cycle to get going massively (PvP, PVE, crafting,...). the old argument of the old Wow haters just doesn't apply anymore: gear reset: present day Wow players laugh at this. They WANT the gear reset. They love it !!!

The game changed that much.

So yes what TBC did for skirmish fighting, WotLK will do for massively worldPvP fighting. I am sure.

AND .... of curse everybody can now do ALL the end raiding content with the optional 10 men raids.

I forsee even pick-up groups.

Well the problem with counting characters over subscriptions is that one sub can play multiple characters.  So one guy has six toons, stat wise thats one sub and 6 characters.  The US sub totals are the lowest, followed by EU and then Asia.  However the high character stats just mean that most (if not all) subscribers have more than one character.

I know the Blizzard will release when it's done, but all signs show that WotLK is coming out this year (proabably November).  They've said more than once it's coming out "Q4 2008", blue posts indicate a pre-expansion patch coming soon and they've released the intro cinematic.  Probably they want to make sure that WAR doesn't get much momentum on them.

So far what Blizz has shown me hasn't impressed me.  What my coworkers and friends who play it say is what will influence me the most.

The stats show the characters being played THAT DAY (or part of that day). And that were traced by a census client which logged in that day.

I don't know many players who play all of their characters on a daily basis :))

Again the stats show that US has MORE played total characters than EU (but EU is incomplete due to the new Russian servers. )

So while the stats of this Census Plus thing show trends it isn't exactly 100% correct.(a census client not logging in can make a huge difference for that day -and result in a lot of characters  not measured for that day etc...).

I don't know why everyone seeks "hidden" and false information behind every tree when Wow is concerned. Everything can be traced rather easely. From Xfire stats, to Vivendi financial reports etc...

It's as if there would be one big conspiracy conisisting of a rare kind of Maffia that manipulates the Western popularity of Wow.

Here is another example of its current popularity: just some sales figures of NEW basic boxes. A reason why you have to include ALL level 10-level 70 characters being played daily.

http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/08/20/four-of-the-top-ten-pc-games-are-world-of-warcraft/

Even after 4 years. Indeed a rare achievement.

The CC categories in WAR are: Knock-back, knock-down, stun, root, snare and silence. They can be single target or AE. For a complete list of abilities check: www.wardb.com There is a crapload at Rank40. Do not forget tactics that add CC to non-CC abilities and morales for a comprehensive list. The average duration is 5sec.

Debuffs (such as CC) and buffs can be dispelled/purged by alot of classes as counter measures.

Your list of WoW content is right down misleading. The very feature that you hail with regard to WoW - gear releases every 6 months - kill alot of old content. Less so today than in vanilla WoW with the badge system - but badge grinds are among the least innovative features I have seen since it is a pure grind and nothing else. It does however give the non-raiders an opportunity to not be too far behind the hard-core raiders. When I was playing WoW seriously in TBC it had on average 2 raid dungeons to offer me (first SSC plus TK, later MH and BT - in the end one raid dungeon SW). That was it. And many were in that situation. It is not bad, but it is a reality very far from your '70 dungeons' bollocks.

At release WoW had: Plenty of content from level 1 to 60 with a low content period from 40 to 60 however (but it was ok - not really perfect though). As end-game it had: Stratholme, Scholomance and LBRS as 5-mans, UBRS as a small raid and MC as a large raid. There was no PvP content. This was a good amount of content since it meant that people could level to 60 and there was stuff to do once there to have fun. So a few months of content out of the box.

At release WAR has: Plenty of content from Rank1 to 40 (actually better coverage than WoW). As end-game it has: Bastion stair and Lost Vale as PvE dungeons (roughly a full both side Stratholme run each in size so larger than Scholo for example) and city PvE dungeons (small PvE dungeons), and PvP end-game in 3 pairings (9 zones of the same size as the average WoW zone) and 1 capitol city siege (per side). Each capitol city unlocks several 6-man dungeons and three major raid dungeons (small - including the 'king' encounter). The PvP system has gear ladders etc in ofc. So WAR also has a few months of solid content to plow through at launch which is a good thing.

So can you stop to spew all that propaganda crap like smoke rings from your behind? The proof of the pudding lies in Mythic's ability to add content in a few months time (just like Blizzard did), but out of the box it has a great amount of content.

Tx for the extensive answer.

As you know I appreciate this: a constructive post without using 4 letter words and needless Wow bashing is so much better.

Um, Age of Conan did exactly what you're asking for.  Once people found out that the beginning of the game was the best part, they left.

WoW also did what you're asking for.  Yep, people stuck around.  And now they're bored to tears because they've gotten to the end game and found that there's no depth.

WAR is giving you the end game from the very start.  But it's a scaled down version.  As you advance your character, more and more options open up.  This makes the game increasingly compelling.

Do I think that the start of the game could be better?  Yes.  Do I think that it's bad of them to have a game that shows more depth the farther you go?  Not at all.

Again ALWAYS the same principle: you are speaking of MORE with LESS offering.

End game of WAR: capture the stratego flag (sorry capitol).

So 1 capitol WIPES the floor completely of 70 + highly developped Raids or dungeons.

It wipes out the numorous capitols that can be be freely raided in Wow and it wipes the floor with any other playing style possible except to bang the heads and conquer the captured Capitol and same Keeps.

It wipes out all other kinds of PvP styles like Arena  and wipes out everything an MMORPG stood for in these last 10 years (professions included).

OP said: he wanted MORE to find in WAR.

And all you say : well less is more....b ecsue of RvR ?!? because of Stratego ???

Don't understand it.

They ve said many times why go find out for yourself why and how many people are responding that it s a good thing. You re little opinion on this matter probably doesn t effect Mythics thoughts on this matter one bit.

No you didn't answer. You dodge the question.

Every time I am asking for a very specific answer why CC is bad, there is no answer. Except for the guy who gave a very good answer in the blocking thing, but all the rest is "hype" and "believe".

Lesser possibilites for CC in a PvP fight is less. Nothing more.

I just wanted to hear that. Less is less not more.

-----------------------------------------------

Next : RvR: what is it ? Again "less for more" theory. : some "high objective far surpassing other games".

Let's analyse....

Black against white, Good versus Evil, Chaos against Order, Red against Blue.

RvR and pride primes everything - even personal gear; Ok?

But in this case Stratego is the ultimate RvR game isn't it ?

Catch the final capitol. And then what ? --- ?

Recatch it ? What's the catch of recatching it? Re-recatching it?

Here is the heart of RvR and why it won't hold intrest for long in MMORPG's. Add the massive CC lacking zerg fests and why would a player play after 3 months catching the recatched capitol?

AoC died of this very poor end game "catch the castle thing" and WAR offers indeed less than less.

The only long term motivation in an MMORPG is the avatar (players) build. Nothing more .... nothing less.

Like i already said at 15 im getting rooted ,snared/ knocked back  PLENTY ( seems liek about 5 sec or so but i dont time it) so there is by far enough cc already and im only 15

Those type of Cc most people want do not belong anywhere neer a pvp game.

NO there isnt any stunlock/mezz abilitys that i have seen so far, *THANK GOODNESS

you want a list ? make it your self bro

Ok root - snare and knock back.

That's it? what about the other 50 possibilites and counter (!) measures you can find in that "other" game spread over all classes.

Not present.

Not present means lesser possiblities. Lesser possibilites means less.....

Lesser means less not more:

How about starting over. Back to the questions of the OP...

Why does WAR offer less of everything and still wants to sell it as more ?

No 4 letter words-answers please. Stay on top with arguments.

The economy in Wow works perfectly on a hi populated server.

offer and demand.

You can get quite rich in manipulating the AH with whatever profession or skill.

What surprised me most was that after the introduction of the daily quests, the economy got another big boost in offer and sales.

No one raids without the elexirs and potions. Some must be making a fortune.

Anyone got an  idea what's the worldwide record in gold ?

NO THERE IS NO I WIN CC BUTTON, MIGHT TRY ANOTHER GAME FOR THAT CHEAP SHIT>

I don't really see how this analogy works here.  In tennis there is no way to cause your opponent to stand there helplessly while you serve balls past their face.

In soccer you can't fear the goalie so that when he sees the ball coming he cowers in the corner.

Reread my post and then reread what you made out of  it:

Then go to a mirror and ask: "Am I really being that stupid ?"/

I wanted WoW's raiding, WoW's PvP features, stealth, fear, feign death, charge, blink and so on.

WoW and LOTRO's execellent PvE questing.

And WAR's RvR.

I expected WAR to have all this.

Why does WAR have so little? People keep telling me that minimalism is good. I don't see it. I expect more from a new game, not less that games that are four years old.

1st of all if it had WoW type raiding i would never have wanted to play it.

Wow's pvp/features sucks soo bad that im glad its nothing like it.

It doesn't have so little, and crowd control abilities are cheap ways to win as well as stealth.

In WAR it's really about WAR...not some stupid little sheep or fear turning the tides of the battle.

Finally a FUN new MMO...Really all i can say is WoW is old and boring as hell, i can't even force myself to play WOTLK beta anymore it's just sooooo lame.

The basic question was simple:

Why does WAR have so little? And all you can come up with is even more "little words" which don't mean a thing.

Words like "sucks" "bad" "CC is "cheap" "stupid" are hardly answers to his question.

The above words are meaningless answers to his questions.
