Everyone wants to try a new mmorpg. Not to many will continue paying for one. |

Savage 2 updated their melee system to seem more like the S1 melee system. Its definitely not as good as S1's melee system, but unlike before, it actually takes skill (dodging was made like 10x more effective so its kindof like a "leap", you can no longer "interupt", and blocking no longer stuns but negates damage)
Anyway to the people who say takes no skill (though it does compared to the other forms of war in DF), try crouch dodging attacks and jumping over them too (i heard you can jump over horizontal swings, and its confirmed that you can crouch dodge a horizontal swing)
Last I heard Df only had one hit box. So if someone is aiming for the head there a noob. Just aim for the groin. Unless players jumper higher than mike itll hit there feet and there neck when they duck. win win situation. And I never played Savage but AoC pwns all melee combat. 3 vs 1 earlier today. 1 archer and 2 knights vs my footman. Im floating like a butterfly between them and stinging the archer like a bee. Then suddenly bam cut off the archers head. I duck and watch the knight chop off his friends head then I stabed the last knight in the back. Thats real melee combat. I like mmorpgs but combat always sucks in em. Who cares if its fps or top down or 1.2.3.4 button spaming with cooldowns. It still takes 50 presses of a key to kill someone. And aiming in the general direction of someone (which is what DF and Conan have) while spaming a button 50 times isnt amazing combat. Try the game out. Everyone has HL2. Its a common fact that dolphins own atleast two copies. Download Age of Chivalry. And experince the uberness that is skilled melee combat. |

Because he might play games to have fun. Hmm. He is right but what i think is more likely is that someone lived a sheltered life. That a bunch of pixels gave him a rush or he doesnt know what a "rush" is. |

Hope thats sarcasm. Cause outside of a few forums no ones heard of Darkfall. I think it is but its hard to tell on forums. Plus why does everyone believe what Adv says. Havnt we learned by now that saying and doing are to different things. Reality and dreams are two different universes. |

Who doesnt love a new mmog. Its the long term that most devs are having trouble with. |

But seriously. Its good that they aren't taking your money and not letting you play. It could have been like every other MMO released in the last 5 years. Where you buy the game, can't play it for a couple of days for the same launch issues, then can't log in due to que times, finally get a chance to play and find out you didn't like it and scream fail. Would you rather this game be Morning or DnL? Oh wait... you guys are doing that anyways and haven't even played the game yet. seriously grow up.
Cant play it for a couple of days for the same launch issues? What mmog did you play on release? Never had one que in a game. But maybe thats cause I dont pick high population servers. Hell even when i was in WoWs release i never had ques just loot lag. But like i said earlier I didnt pick the high population servers. |

They dont get it. I wouldnt even bother with them. For some reason they dont understand the concept of false advertisment. You can tell it went over some peoples heads when they replied with there opinion on how fun the game is. lol The big question i wanna know is what are there investors thinking, do they feel DF was a scam? You know they took there cut out of the release. But was that enough to calm em down till they get the rest of there money? |

No this thread is. Its depressing how ignorant the forum community is. Not everyone reads forums some people buy mags alot do. Alot of people think WoW is the #1 mmorpg and it is. And theres nothing to debate. Me personaly I cant stand it only played for a weeks maybe two then I couldnt even make myself play it to finish out the free 30 days. But my ego is balanced enough to know that its a personal taste. The majority of the market likes those types of games. Im a minority in this genre but my ego can except that. Others cant. The majority have spoken and they like wow. Just liked they enjoyed EQ, which was my WoW back in the day (Alot of us declared it the downfall of this genre). Theres nothing wrong with mag reviews there just as biased and pointless as forum blogs. And yes a good amount of people read them both and consider them a tool in purchasing a game. Why do you guys act like your opnions are facts, laws of the universe. There just ur opinion ur personal taste. To many of you think to much of urselfs. |

Now I cant do a 50% movement debuff on a tree since they dont move but I can do it on a human. See targeting isnt realy that special in DF. Its just one hit box. Any good fps gamer can hit anyone in DF. And if I can aim for someones head for optimal dmg or side to bypass his block or feet as they jump as i swing in a game with faster movement. I can hit a target the size of a barn in df. Best move in AoC is ducking right as a knight swings his double axe and killing him with jab to the foot. What makes AoC combat complex hell even Mount and blade is timing with block and attacking; and aiming. Plus different attacks change how ur attack works. This games combat is more simple than AoC (thats conan not chivalry). I can dodge in conan, infact most good pvpers in conan will dodge ur swings. Plus you have to be aware of there shields. And you have to use the right combos seeing as they do different effects. I always thought everyone sword fought as a kid. Its hard blocking someones stick and you dont do much runing around other than a few steps. You kinda just pay attention to there swing and trying to fake em out. On the 360 swinging it actualy works in stick fighting if you do it right. But if you took martial arts you know that power up swings and 360 kicks actualy work and can be done quick. Was in jeet kune do(bruce lee's stuff) and a Tae kwon do guy was taking the class too. We were sparing and he did this spin kick. He was quick I barly had enough time to use my shoulder and get ready for the hit. Made me back pedal into the wall he hit me so hard. Tae kwon do guys can do some hard kicks and there not simple kicks. |

As I see it, it has nothing to do with server loads. It has to do with game engine synchronization and real time clients requests. A game engine will not just run by itself, it needs modules to relly on at early stages of development. darkfall probably will be in a constant state of development which is ..well, normal, since they seem to follow a constant update methodology in building this thing which is..well, right. Modules can later become a part of an engine itself, eg. harcoded inside it, and performance becomes seamless and flowless. They have their own game engine in. One company decides to build their own engine primarily for two reasons. 1st reason is that it is cheaper against the choice of buying a high tech one. Although there are cheap engines that behave very good and can be custommized at demand and produce amazing results. Jupiter and Jupiter EX =Fear and FEAR 2, = 4,000 dollars only, among many many others. (it just happened to see that engine at work at another project) 2nd reasons is that when a dev team agrees uppon game features, there is alwasy the chance that every existing engine on the market cannot accomodate what they might have in mind. Ussualy revolutionary concepts demand brand new engines build from the ground up.
I believe Darkfall was facing both of these issues I stated while making their decission about what kind of engine they should use.
IF everything from the above = TRUE THEN = problems will be solved in a small matter of time.
It might feel like an payed open beta, but hey, programming might look like an easy thing to do but in reality this is not the real case. Imagine the "you are sitting in a chair in the sky argument" for example.
edit: It might seem as they made poor choices at first, but, from what I can understand, they did the right thing choosing something that can be constantly updated, restructured, expanded to suit their needs. You don't do this if you don't have in mind to do constant enhancing and adding of new elemets each time. What it might seem as Darkfalls weakest point, might in fact be the element of success this game has to rely on. Give it time.
One day ull realize everything looks good on paper and even better in your head. But reality never seems to work out like you hope it does. 8 yrs. How much time do they need? |

Builshit. None of the individual techniques are new, but the total framework is far beyond anything seen in an MMO, and the server architecture required to handle it is why NPC guards are out and a meaningful part of the launch issues. If you think that a scripted trigger to run when a mob reaches 10% health is similar in complexity to a weighted priority system in which mobs might stick around longer if they've got a healer or several allies, you're a shallow douche, but sure, they're topologically similar. But I defy you to show me a single MMO in which the mobs have to perform ballistics and motion-lead calculations, or for that matter know about directions other than "toward" and "away."
No hes right thats not a very complex AI. Actualy the hardest part of AI is having it interact with the evironment. See thats why player combat is better than AI. Cause AI is easy to trick. As you can see with the exploits of getting them in water or stuck in a corner. Thats why most mmos say its a no no to jump in a tree or on a rock and shot mobs. Thats why some mmos put in a reset, you know when the mob gets insta full health immunity and goes back to its original cords. The reason why most AI in mmos are simple is due to design. Not because its hard to do. Left 4 Dead has some good AI but any AI can be tricked. Except Fighting AI. Cause there just cheap. To this day I hate MBison and his uber cheapness. |

AO wasnt that bad for me. Guess everyone had a differente experience. I only crashed in the starter area, only had lag in the city and starter area. But once I got out of there (altaholic so I played all the classes before I left). IT was fine. Even played in a few groups so I wasnt the only one. AO was pretty fun at release. Never followed AoC before I bought, Was real shocked on how different there second mmo was. Only bad release for me was CoH I canceled it before it shipped but they still charged me and never got my game. I blame EBgames and ups for that one though. Mostly UPS cause EBgames gave it to em(even though i told them to cancel it; those b*stards) But UPS were the morons that lost my game. But seriously some of you are over reacting on other mmos releases. And downplaying this one. But thats what fanbois do. If you want to know how bad some of em get. Check out the DnL forum theres a post near the top (the creater of the thread is a DF fan aswell). Explains how DnL was a good game and the release wasnt that bad. For some reason DF attracts the bottom dwellers of this genre. |
