Ive only had the chance to RP once on the open rvr server(everyones to busy killing) had a quest where you had to save some elves.

The other guy said he was finished and got em all so I replyed that there were still more prisoners so we killed all the guards unlocked the cages before the prisoners respawned.

Was pretty fun and you could tell the guy wasnt a RPer either. Kinda surprised he went along with it. But usualy if you give someone a chance or something to make that inner child click itll happen.

 

Havnt ran into any immature, sure ive had some dark elves or orcs laugh at you when you die but without a large general chat most people stay normal.  No general chat also helps us order take an obj without half the destruc running to stop us.

 

PvP is fun. Im seeing alot more tanks now. But destruc tanks outnumber us, good thing though is most those tanks suck so its usualy evens out with a few good desturc tanks vs a few superior order tanks :p

EQ vs DAOC all over again.

IMO though I think Blizzard shoulda focused on PvE for there xpac.

WoW combat(pvp) cant compete with WAR. If you ever played a scenario with good players on each team youll understand what I mean.

Ive played with vehicles in fps and mmogs before. I admit I know nothing on what WoW vehicles can and cant do but in other games vehicles ruined infantry combat.

If there weaker or equal to players no one will use em. And if they pwn players then ull be waiting in lines and bitching at line jumpers.

Blizzard just copies other peoples ideas.  Thats why I couldnt get into WoW, i did it all before. Which is why I understand its so popular for those who hadnt played mmogs years before it.

Wow is like a buffet sure there gonna add jello soon but I would rather go to a resturant with a focused menu.

There just forum PvPers looking for another AoC.

But I dont know I hope the game does good.

Ive grouped more in WAR than in EQ2.   As soon as a group forms it fills without you noticing. 

Everyones in groups chating or in Scenarios.  I see a few lines go by in /1 But its usualy a question then a answer instead of the chatter in most games.

In games I use general chat  when not in a group or guild so I could chat or find a group; or the occasoinal question (which if you ask a few times someone will see it).

And Ive never done a PQ solo. Sure I could grind it for some renown but the good stuff is in the box.

Some of those PQs get a litle crazy. Skeletons poping up everywhere, some crazy lady atacking you then summons skeletons and vanishes. All the whle trying to kill these altars that set you on fire.

Blizzard (not talking about just WoW blizzard) has always done outdated graphics. And they always sold at the top of charts.

High graphic games while they might be the big word around the internet,  the market doesnt always warm up to them. Look at Half-Life compared to other fps. Or Baldurs gate is another one.

The majority of gamers (sorry comp nerd brothers we arnt the majority) dont upgrade there system to play the latest and greatest. They also dont build there comps but buy em pre made. And alot of em have intergrated gfx cards. 

Gfx and mmorpgs dont mix.   And while some devs are trying to add it to the genre there finding out that tech demos dont get sales like in other markets.

 

Go core, open RvR is a let down.

I was around lvl 9 with a few dwarfs at lvl 11/12 and a lvl 20+ DoK was just beating on us. It was funny though cause he started laughing since we couldnt kill him so the dwarfs (dont know what ability it was) threw him off the mountain.  He almost died :(  but as he ran back we were all shooting him and laughing, then as soon as he got up to us 10 seconds latter he goes flying again.

RvR wouldnt be so bad if high lvl players still got chickend (well the requirment to be chicken was lowered).

Scenarios are popular though :p

Man im getting old i guess.  I remember the days of atari. And for that reason I have to say WAR looks great.

In the olden days we used imagination instead of GPUs and SLIs.  And games were just about having fun.

Well sucks to be you kiddies. I can have any graphics above 8-bit and they will impress me. 

Ive never seen a WP tank in pvp.

If there not already then im sure they will be like the DoK if they get there knight.

Are you guys sure ur even connecting with them? Just cause ur screen shows him infront of you he coulda just diped left and ur comp never got the packet in time.

I never block as a tank (except one time where we traped a guy 15 lvls above us in a building). Other than that I CC. Standing infront of someone just slows em down I wouldnt count on it to stop someone.

Never happend in combat but ive seen it while runing long stretches. Ill see a character runing beside me then hell disapear and be running way behind me.

Happens alot in FPS on laggy players. Are you sure there not just on dial up; or like someone said earlier simulating a bad connection?

Sounds more like lag compensation (cant think of the word) than collision.

While WAR didnt push the standard on all fronts. It did push it toward team PvP and player socializing.

The fact that tanks can tank and casters arnt the first to die in pvp is a welcome change.  Ive had teams(they knew how to play too) who held off zerg after zerg from destruction outnumberd and outlvled. Strategy wins the battle (which i was hoping for since it was called Warhammer).

Mythic made finding and creating groups seem natural in WAR. Groups and warbands are a common occurence. Whether this is from Open partys, PQs or maybe even small limited global chats(people have to get there chat fix somehow) not sure but whatever mythic did it works.

Now WAR, like DAOC, caters to a niche market.  And it pushed the standards for that market.

But since the MMORPG community thinks the market is of one mind and taste it will never get the recognition.

I mean Ive read people bash WAR cause it wasnt a sandbox. LOL   There are PvE games (the beast of mmorpgs), PvP games, and Sandbox games.

Wow is more of a Jack of all trades, master of none. Or in AoC case Jack of nothing, waste of time.       And just like EQ (how many remeber the EQ killer days) only a PvE game will take the throne.

Yadda yadda yadda. All you destruction players suck and order will dominate you all. Funcom fails again and mythic saves the day.

Even with auto facing its still easy to do positionals on ur attacker. And it makes it easier.

When I play my WL most my skills and bonus from my pet is from being to the side or behind them. Its easy to do if you have skills.

 

If your burned out on MMORPGs then no game will ever meet ur standards. Some people need to take a break from it.

This  game is a step up from DAOC.  Wasnt suppose to be a some Wow Killer (just like DAOC wasnt suppose to be a EQ killer). RvR/PvP isnt for everyone. Its a niche out of the mmorpg market.

Sure everyone will say they love PvP but only if there winning then its whine whine whine.

 

And Zergs are very easy to beat.

I disagree I have a very short attention span and ive been enjoying eve.

Ive been playing for 3 days but those 3 days been a blast. 

Eve kinda reminds me of the model games or the old complex pen and paper games(usualy mech ones).

I love combat but ive spent more time decking out my ship and shoping/traveling for the best deals.

Its a real sci-fi game instead of a game with a sci-fi theme. Alot of thinking and cacluation goes into ur weapon systems.

First day found a Corp with a bunch of trials so were building it up from the ground. Were all different types of players , some are buisness/economy driven, others crafting and a few like me combat and one whose into management.          In other words a sandbox game.

Still learning the combat but from what Ive seen its like most MMOG combat. You got ur debuffs, buffs, healing, DD and AOE.   Its a rush when you got 3 targerts and ur micro managing ur weapons and accesories between em. Not to mention remembering optimal distance of each weapon and keeping away from theres.

Also love exploring and eve gots that in spades. While I was guarding one of our miners I found a old gate that took me to some robots kept. It kept  leading to more and more gates  taking  me to harder and harder robots.  Till I had to run for my life.

Anyways Eve isnt a shallow Game.

Ive heard about eve through alot of game forums. So I decided to give it a try.  So far im still in the tutorial but Im curious if the combat gets better.

Does movement add anything to the fight or are there any tactics.  Or does combat pretty much equal skill points, items and watching the light show?

Just signed up to say some of you posters are drama queens.

As for zerging in War ya the first 5 lvls after that  the  500 order to 9 destruction scores starts happening. And ya that sh*t was pissn me off.

Gotta love the orks who rush into battle after I finaly get there health to half way to die from 3 dwarfs beating on him, gota love the lemming mentality.     When you run into a group that sets up and play there characters youll see how worthless zerging is. 

Just like CS, CoD, DoD, and TF2  there will always be zerging. And no matter how many times they die, when they get one kill from it they declare how uber it is. 

I can tell some stories of failed zergs, watching the last guy run slowly away (used my cc) as hes beaten to death from positionals is hilarious.

 

Slow combat: I say its to fast. I was hopeing War would be strategy combat instead of Spam ftw. But its decent enough the cooldowns help on the spaming, wish it was 2 seconds instead of 1.5

But the fact that I can get 22 kills 4 death blows and 0 deaths as a Zealot ; its good enough. Didnt get high enough to see all the debuffs and CCs so it might get more strategy based later on.

 

PQs: the first few are cluster f*cks. Zerg ftw.    But when u start getting mobs + a few elites. The mass fall in line its pretty cool to watch.  Healers focus on healing. Tanks get all protective. And nukers watch there aggro.        Now there was one magus who kept spaming and ended with three normal mobs on her; kinda funny watching her run around a few seconds then plop down dead.  But that ended when an elite(its not the name mythic uses but..) ran to me and a tank saved me but then died felt bad for em.

 

As for OP classes: Rune priest and shamans.   And yes ive killed RPs with my Zealot and shamans with my Witch Hunter.  But there still annoying as hell.

 

Open groups: Great idea.  Got in a few and we ended up doing PQs and some scenarios. A great way to break the ice and get a community going.

 

And as for the comments about how videos look. Experience beats videos.  Sorta like how porn doesnt equal real sex.

If you didnt play in preview then, it sucks to be you. You can only guess on how it plays.
