If you have a Phenom 9600 get the program that disables the TLB Patch. You can disable it with your bios if you have xp but with win7 you have to the do it thru ur bios and os.
I went from 30 to 40 fps in low pop areas to 80 fps and I dip to 20 to 28 fps during heavy rifts before removing the patch it was in the 7 to 9s.
Not only works for rift but for all games. Ofcourse amd patched it for a reason and it might cause your comp to crash once in awhile.
Rift seems to be rough on CPUs and RAM speed (still have ddr2 1066 and its hurtn me) |

What are your other classes. All i read was Im a lvl 50 sentinel. Which honestly makes me think your BSing. No rift player list there char like that. It would be Sentinel/(insert soul)/(insert soul). Ya sentinel has alot of lazy aoe heals. But it sounds to me your overkilling on the heals. Most players have a role that is somewhat self sufficent. You should be doing more than just healing. |

Rift pops are fine. All depends on your community. The more people in your area the harder and frequent the rifts are. Ive never fought a rift or invasion alone, someone always comes along. Then three more and next thing you know its a raid. Invasions never last that long either. And Taking a quest hub back is easy after the main guy leaves plus if you get there at the right time the npcs will help you. So you have to kill a few guys to turn in a quest, is it realy that much of a drag on your quest grinding that mmo players have been complaining about for years to do a dynamic quest.
Maybe your build sucks so your strugling or maybe like someone said earlier your all burnt out on mmos. Ive been around here for awhile and it seems like the same posters always preaching doom and gloom on the new game and hyping the next one... until it comes out then back to the same ole.
Rifts will get old just like quests and dungeons get old. Good thing we play for social reasons and not just for quest/dungeon grinding. |

Man the combat looks like crap.
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 7/03/10 10:50:33 PM
I had my doubts about TOR but the videos i've seen latly have been getting me interested. Combat looks great imo. Light armor range have to duck and cover. Heavy armor range stand there and blast away (isnt the whole point of heavy armor to take a hit) Saw the trooper video and the way they explained the class makes sense on why he just stands in the open firing. Light saber fights(aka sword fights) are the best ive seen in the genre, no more will melee combat feel like a dance compitition, sometimes i feel like my character says you got served after i win in pvp. Had my doubts about group combat but after seeing they use the Holy Trinity im actualy pro TOR now. Played a few games without the trinity and it turns into a dps game with no group mechanics (SWG comes to mind, liked the game but group combat sucked). Imo TOR is shaping up nicely. |

Longevity being a key word for any MMO. MMOs shouldn't be made to make a quick box sale and shrug at the sub, it's the sub they are supposed to be after.
Are you serious? $50 for a week or two of fun is a good game. $50 dollars for months or years of fun is a classic. Its fifty freakn dollars. And 15 a month for extra content. Games dont need to be made like EverCrack where you play so much you lose ur family, ability to get up and go to a toilet and your life. (yes thats right some people have died from mmo addiction, are species is that sad). Mabye im not harsh on games cause im a gamer. As in I play games for fun. And not to escape reality. Around 6 is a good number for STO. which means its a good game, youll get ur $50 out of it, which is what most people look to reviews for. Actualy I remember seeing UO getting a 6 back in the day from a mag (not saying STO compares to UO) but back then 8s and 9s werent given out like candy. You guys ever wonder why your excited about games only when there in development and then trash em when they release. Its not the developers....... its you. Hate to break it to you. But what am I talking about all these mediocre games being released is due to proffesionals not knowing what there doing and are idiots compared to forum posters. If gamers made a mmo it would be the best ever. DF and MO have to be the best mmos out there. Stable and feature complete with 0 imperfection. And no need to be out for months to improve there just perfect on the day of release. Its not like they hyped(some might say lied) the damn thing like WAR and AoC now that was some BS |

Instancing is actually in genre for Star Trek
General Discussion « Star Trek Online 2/16/10 2:48:40 AM
Im glad they went with instancing. Wouldnt feel like star trek with hundreds of people around camping a spawn. Plus missions would be simple like most mmogs, since STO has heavy instancing they can use alot of scripts. And while the majority of missions (not by alot) is kill everyone atleast I dont have to kill the same mob over and over to get some cheesy item for a nobody cook or blacksmith. And I would rather have STOs travel than EvEs. While playing eve I watched TV and read my books more than I actualy played the game. I fell for the hype, complicated my @55 sure it took a few more brain cells but not much. Was hoping it would be like the ole mech games in middle school the ones where you decked out ur character and calculated ur stats on graph paper. Anyways..... I agree with the op, glad they went with instancing.
Believe it or not everyone doesnt like EvE. And believe it or not everyone doesnt find eve a mental exercise. |

Im enjoying STO also. Speaking of the vulcan ambasador map, thats a big map. I decided to kill all the klingons this time around (played beta) and theres alot of em . Have you done the mission where you have to find these beacons in a sandstorm(think it was a sandstorm) and you can barly see your team mates? thats a intresting mission to beat. Hope they add more ground missions I dont know why but Ground missions are my favorite part of the game.
And Im glad they didnt go heavy crafting, wandering empty space for 30 minutes or going back and forth between NPCs being there b*tch....I mean messanger in the name of diplomacy. Anyone know if ur class changes what missions you get? I dont have some missions I did in beta(security) and I have some that I didnt have in beta. |

Read some old posts over at the DF forum then read the ones here and turn off the blind e-rage. You might learn something |

"Which games would that be?" Sandbox/complex games, unless you count EvE but they dont make that much money. "It wouldn't take more then 5 years, which is average time for a quality game from scratch" A quality theme park sure but not a game with large amounts of content as he was describing. We have no solid reason why the last dev team went belly up.. However games like LoTRO, WoW and EQ2 are doing just fine with long development schedule, and making money :)" Back when I played LoTRO and EQ2 they were zoned and no where equal to the land mass the op was dreaming of. Maybe they equaled one planet but definatly not more than 2. "Data used a replicator to craft an offspring android? You are using a tunnel like vision to envision crafting as sitting down in a campfire cooking food.. 1st) that is something that would be interesting to have in a game, considering you'll be on planets questing with no immediate access to a kitchen or replicator.. 2) Using replicators can be part of crafting.. That computer doesn't know how to do anything unless someone tells it first.. and 3rd) Did you miss the entire series of Voyager where one of the main characters was a cook?" : Data was a uber robot. And one guys profession doesnt equal the common star fleet officer. Sure they had hobbies but I wouldnt call them crafters. Green tea at boiling tempature doesnt sound like telling a computer much. "Nope, they have storage facilities.. Same thing, just a spin on words.. " And I have pockets does that mean Im a walking bank. Sure they had storage and STO has inventory just a spin on words. But I never saw Pickard turn the ship around to store his phat loot or retrieve his phaser of +20 that he crafted a week ago. "And STO current form of PvP is your dream? no thanks :)" PvP shouldnt be a focus for a Star trek game imo. PvE should be there focus. PvP in mmos are kinda boring to me anyways I play fps for my pvp desires. "you're repeating yourself now.. " Adding salt to wounds, fuming the flames of his ego, stomping on his dreams over and over and over and over and over with my boot of reality. I dont have nice days I have amazing days boldly going to grind a tradeskill, deal with office politics and liveing in a working(kinda) economy everyday. Hmmm no wonder I grew out of sandbox mmos. |

Cryptic didn't make this game just for you. Stop being so self-absorbed.
General Discussion « Star Trek Online 2/09/10 5:07:45 AM
You know what I find weird The op was expressing his opinion and some people jump on him. Posting about forums are about posting opinions. HMM hypocricy at its finest. Maybe its late but I never read in his post where forums are about liking the subject. Sure: "But quit being so self-centered and coming on these forums calling the game a "failure" because it's not exactly what YOU want" can look like hes saying you cant post but only on the surface and if you read way to much into it. Sorta like if ones wife says "stop being an @55" sure I could take that as her trying to control me but only if I take everything way to personal. Ur right op most of them dont actualy play an mmo or they play one called EvE which is the elitist Flavor of the month...more like flaver of the years. Has been for awhile seeing as the "deep and complex games" hold subs worse than "dumb downed casual games". But thats the mmorpg forums for you, a sea of complaining and arm chairing. And the the guy who compared makeing a game to a movie. That was silly. The fact you compared a guy telling a grown man how to play pretend to writing code and designing software for a large project means youve never done it. And to be perfectly honest is a rediculous comparison. Plus critics are worthless all they like is indie films that only a few people like..... wait isnt that like.... nm i wont go there. DragonShark: when did he ever say you cant post ur opinion. He was just posting his opinion on those who complain about the game over and over. You talk about intrest in other people opinions but you care little for his. Reminds me of the saying about a plank and a eye.
Gamers have complained and trashed games since the prehistoric days of UO. Some of you new comers to mmos might think thats impossible since you heard UO is the greatest MMO ever on these forums. But its true even EQ and WoW who are known as huge commercial success also had scores of "this game sucks I coulda done beter". ALL OF THEM EVERY SINGLE ONE. Gamers who post on forums (yes thats right not all gamers post on forums) Complain and say they can do better. Its a union rule. |

Plus the last dev with ur ip license fell thru. I dont think they would like an idea with a long development time based on a model that doesnt sell well, if it didnt work with the last dev why repeat investment. Plus star trek wasnt about visiting well known home worlds it was about seeing random solar systems, so the 20 planets sounds kinda un star trekish. Star trek wasnt about crafting. I remember a episode where the characters said they dont even know how to cook food(TNG it was the engineer guy who was married dont remem his name) so crafting is realy un star trekish. They used replicators. Dont remember any enterprises going to a bank to store loot . PvP sounds worse and more simplistic than WAR. Seriously u just replaced keeps with satelites and reskined the same mechanics.
Actualy your dream sounds like SWG but in a star trek theme and WAR pvp. Still dont know why so many on here want crafting when the hell did anyone craft in star trek. Dont remember the star trek motto being To boldy go and and make worthless junk. Every game doesnt need crafting in it and you guys say you think outside the box. Its the same freaking box of sand over and over with mmorpg arm chair developers. "Hay I got an idea for a game lets make UO or SWG but with <insert IP> skins. Why cant professionals be as innovative" Post wasnt so much about u op but with the wannabe devs who lurk this site. You just happen to be the thread I posted on.

Hows is that the devlopers fault? If ur pc shuts down due to overheating or lack of power. Thats not the softwares fault. Thats a hardware issue. I dont know of any DX functions that call for hardware to pull more power than the manufacturer designed them too or one that causes it to magicaly over heat. Most power supplies suck. If youve worked on comps for a long time youll know this. Also cheap power supplies dont always output there listed wattage when they get old. Vid cards specialy the current ones use alot of power I mean alot compared to a few years ago. Its not like STO is doing some voodoo to make ur system break. You or who ever you bought it from didnt build it right. Now my system gets hot playing STO, real hot but not dangerous hot and my system doesnt shut down. It just turns it into an expensive Heater. Again not the devs fault. If ur overheating add in new fans or better yet make sure you have good air flow. Dust isnt the cause for all overheating issues. If your system doesnt have enough power to supply ur parts when there at full speed then get a stronger power supply also check the voltage. Theres more to a power supply than just 650w you have to check each ratings specialy if u got a highend graphics card or doing sli.
If the game ran like sh*t and stressed ur system I could understand blaming them but Dont blame them for you buying power hungry hardware and you not designing your system with enough power and coolage (is that even a word?) to meet its deemand. I bet half of the ones with there comps shutting down OC or bought a factory OC part. |

Its a company forum. They can do what they want. And all the soap box talk about fighting tyrany and how this is like a cop doing this is all BS and silly. Im sure if someone showed up at ur job and harrassed customers you wouldnt just sit there and do nothing. Im pretty sure you or someone would escort them out. Its a buisness not a public place. You also cant protest on private property in RL. Nothing unusualy stop QQing |

The REAL issue of STO: the absence of bridge interaction
General Discussion « Star Trek Online 1/19/10 2:59:37 AM
I would hate to be the one with a ear peice stuck in my head (cant spell that girls name). Pretty much anyone other than the captain would suck. I hear alot of kirk vs picard vs some other captain. Dont hear to many worf vs tuvac. And who would want to be the doctor waiting in the sick room for a engineer to get radiation burns. No one wants to be another mans b**ch for 15 dollars a month.....Well then again theres alot of freaks out there. |

I hope they dont change the AI (i know they will) . I was in one of those sectors and yes the first guy died in a matter of seconds but we all just stuck around each other and enaged the klingons in a group. As soon as the AI is attacked theyll focus there attention on who attacked them. The problem is so many captains just full impulse to a single ship, they dont understand klingons have cloaks. I have a feeling there going to break the AI and make space combat easy mode in groups. |

My worst fears realized, the game is very similiar to champions online
General Discussion « Star Trek Online 1/18/10 3:20:15 AM
Its not like CO. Never have I felt like a super hero in space. The more I play the more i feel that heavy instancing was the way to go. Seeing 40 people in the same mission doesnt feel like going where no man has gone before. And its not as bad as other instance games due to the grouping system. I havnt played in this many pick up groups in a loooong time. And yes people talk in team chat mostly about tactics but if its a small mission and easy its silence. Plus youll travel for awhile since most missions have a few points you have to visit. You realy dont miss having a large amount of people around you. Probaly cause of the IP and theme. They did crafting the only way plausable for the IP. How many times did you see kirk, picard or any other captains slaving away at a bench grinding away for a +4 phaser rifle. Instead you have finding reagents in missions and even in sector space. Collecting enough to get an item, some items even require other items plus regeants to get. Its like any other crafting without grinding crafting. And no gathering grind. would be silly if you had alien artifact gathering skill then biological gathering skill and so forth. Your a captain with a crew full of professionals. Not a Warlock picking flowers. Space feels like space, I realy dont feel like traveling 30 minutes of emptyness just to do a mission. Maps feel big. Its not like ur in a small box as some like to play it out around here. <b>It feels like a star trek game to me. </b> I think alot of people wanted it to feel like a star trek show or movie but cryptic wasnt going to make a star trek virtual world. Everyone knew they were makeing a star trek theme park. |

Ever wonder why there are so many Macros and bots for mmogs. Ive played alot of Star trek games and its not like they all were awesome complex hubs of funness.
And since so many are being rude on this forum lately (lol ya right when isnt mmorpg.com forums not rude). Most of your arm chair ideas suck. There either unrealistic or just plain boring. One guy complained about no variation in quest types then names off 5 different kinds. You seriously dont do that much in a mmog. Kill, fetch and search are what all mmog quests are based on. The rest is just fluff surronding those basic parameters. Then the one about long space travel. EvE does that and its boring. I watched more tv and read my books more than play that game. Plus space is big enough to give the illusion of a big area. I had to circle a planets ring full of ice chunks and it didnt take a minute to go around it. And the artwork blows EvE out of the water. When I got to the other side of the planet (away from its sun) you could see the surface was coverd in ice and it wasnt just an bland ice texture. I figured they would make the whole planet one generic texture but i was impressed. Crafting Ive never been a big fan. Never saw the appeal of running around looking for some regeant then running to a bench and hitting a button over and over to make an item. From what ive seen crafting in this game consists of finding junk in space (ur regeants) and going to an npc and if you have all the required junk you get the item. Pretty much the same thing without the button clicking and watching a progress bar. Never liked crafting soo dont realy care how they do it. Player crews: I just want it just to have a moveable guild hall. Or maybe for Raid away missions. Im crossing my fingers that they give us access to more than just the bridge of our ships. !!!! I just want a full ship with a sickbay, a bar with whopie goldberg in it and a holo deck. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If your watching cryptic give us the whole ship comon will love you long time.
The think with arm chairing is it looks good in your head and on paper. But in real world application it doesnt work. Also what mmogs are you guys playing cause it seems the one your playing doesnt have a grind nor repetitive actions and it sucks your d**k? I want in on that game. Does it also mow your lawn, pay your taxes and goes to work for you? Those are some game features im looking for in a next gen mmog. |

The trick with those Battleships is most there fire power is either on the front, back or sides. You have to keep on the side that only has phasers (i think there disruptors). And if they use mines keep ur distance and when they launch em blow the mines. Same goes if they use energy drainers. Space Combat isnt like the average mmorpg. Of using a macro to spam a series of keystrokes over and over. And the only challenge is maintaining a good xp to down time ratio. And ive never seen the AI jump unless you jump and there trying to follow you. Ground combat is a arcade style shooter. Bunny hoping wont help you seeing as you shoot at whoever is infront of you. And you cant just sit there spamming abilities like in other mmogs. You have to use cover like the tutorial said.

Just like the old america is better than todays america. Anyone watch the Comedy Centrals daily show where they make fun of all the media saying how the old is better than the new. I remember the days of UO,AC, and SWG. And the forums were a flame fest with a large amount of complaining. STO forums pale in comparison to the mood of there forums. SWG was the worst followed by UO then AC which actualy wasnt that popular. EQ whooped AC's @55 in subcribers. Not sure who had more AC or UO, but i think AC since UO was having a exodus. Im starting to think forum posters complain about every single game until it gets old then they praise it. Sorta like Indie devs make the best game comment i see around here alot. Yet from what I can tell they release broken games (DF, MO) or mediocre games like fallen earth or the more numorus Scams. Only good indie game is EvE but i guess one indie dev equals them all. Oh and on a side note. It feels like space to me. Specialy if you get a good random map that has a planet with a meteor belt due to a moon blowing up. Going thru all that ruble and trying to target a warbird as it hid (more like stuck) under one. Was muy cool. Plus it took some time to go around that planet finding all the enemys. Was a longer walk than most quests in WoW. 20 billion times longer than WARs quest. Now that was a small, cramed together game world. And theres alot of missions that dont inculde combat. Been in quite a few. Maybe 1 to every 3 combat missions. Plus the large missions will sometimes have one non-combat mission. Its like some people complain just to complain. Maybe your all just my wife loging in as different users. |
