The people funcom trusts to moderate their boards
General Discussion « Age of Conan 10/17/08 12:31:07 AM
Not true, well not entirely. What tends to happen is that a few people will post multiple troll post "trying to get FC to fix AoC" at the end after numerous replies the OP then admits he already canceled his account a week ago and just wanted to start trouble. Next week the same poster will post again with a different issue. After awhile people get fed up with it and just tell the person to quit already because we are tired of hearing their sh**. Too anyone saying that FC deletes post, this is not the experience that I've had, not saying that it doesn't happen. There are plenty of "AoC sucks" thread on the forums posted by people that stopped playing months ago or the same trolls that have not been deleted. However, more often than not, someone will violate the terms of use and get their tread locked for it or being troll bait. Also, post that become flame wars, positive or negative, get closed as well because its not constructive criticism. Saying the game sucks isn't constructive, saying "XYZ should be changed to ABC in order for the game to be better, until then good bye" is contrastive criticism. |

Oh, that explains it. Like I said on the AoC forums when TL was brought up. I already have two games I'm beta testing FOR FREE, I don't feel the need to have to pay to beta test a game, just because it was released way to early.
Who cares if you want to play on TL or not? WargPest wanted to know about Ymir's Pass, you insinuated that he couldn't because it wasn't in game. But everyone can in fact see how the new content is working, and I doubt anybody cares if you want to test it or not.
He could play it himself if he has a valid account and actually playes the game. No need to ask about it.

Many of us still have active accounts, so it would be nice to throw you a PM now and again on the official forums! wrgpost directed a few of us here because a lot of people come to this site to see whats going on with a game such as AoC, but a lot of troll exist here that haven't played the game for months and still bash as if it has not improved at all. I read some of the post here before his post, but felt that I had to counter troll a little bit Xpiher in game/forums Tyranny server. |

One thing people fail to realize about the whole billing system that FC has is that its not handled in the US. Any time you buy anything from overseas you have a greater risk of getting charged incorrectly due to how the banking systems differ. Not saying the OP doesn't have a reason to gripe, but since FC has fixed this issue in the past they certainly will fix it again. And I wouldn't blame FC, I'd blame their bank since that's who actually handles the payments and charges portion. |

Personally, I find the artistic design of AoC very bland, no matter the detail of the objects and environment. Do you have any numbers that reflect or support the increase on your server? Which server is it?
The 100k number I pulled out of the air, but during prime time on the top five servers you can find a group to do pretty much anything you want to do. This leads me to believe that AoC isn't dead by any means and should have a healthy population which is between 100-200k active subs. You can disagree with me all you want, and I won't argue that population is surging or that population isn't way down since launch, but AoC is not dead. Tyranny has had increased population since patch 2.0 . Some of the people are rerolls from the "dead" servers, some are new players, and some are guilds that just wanted to be where the action is. Set/Wicca, Deathwhisper, and Cimmeria are all expereincing a slight increase in population; enough to open up multiable instances again. The only reason Tryanny doesn't have multiable instances in the most popular zones is becuause everyone does mini games inbetween world PvP elimintating the option of creating a new zone :P |

Crafting is getting reworded, raids are getting added, fixed, and changed for the better, and more PvE content has made its way into the game before the PvP patch has hit. I wouldn't say either PvP or PvE is being "ignored" but rather are being worked on seprately. To the person that said that PvE and PvP should not be mixed the problem I have with that is that if a class is OP in PvP its OP in PvE. The difference is the mobs can't complain about you being OP and as such PvEers are happy with their OPness because they are more useful. IMO for an MMO to be worth anything all classes reguardless of play style should be fair balanced with strs and weaknesss; however, an OP class has all str and hardly any weaknesses. I just don't understand why hardcore PvE players can't see this issue like the people who play both aspects do. |

Will there come a time that they release the promised DX10 for Age Of Conan???
General Discussion « Age of Conan 10/16/08 3:40:14 AM
What I don't understand is way everyone is giving FC so much flak for not having dx10 out yet? dx10 is not going to change the core graphics of the game at all. The only substantial thing DX10 adds, from the screen shots we are given, is ambiance (mist, better water reflections, etc) while making the game look a little smoother, but not by much. Thats it. Nothing special IMO. Should it be out? Yea it should have been in at release, but is it as big of a deal as people are making it out to be? I wonder sometimes. |

There is a good few weeks of fun to be had with AoC (as long as you are on a populated server) and if I brought a non mmo and played it for multiple hours a day for 3 weeks before getting bored I'd give it a much higher score than a 5. However mmo's are different and in return for looking over it's issues you expect much greater longitivity and it's just not there with AoC at the moment. The plans are there to put it right though, the new crafting armors is 3.0 will be nice but the game is so lacking at endgame I just can't see them having enough time to put it right. AoC has the problem of fast leveling to endgame, little to do when you get there and little desire to roll an alt since you will bascially be doing the exact same thing you did the first time other then the early destiny quests.
Somewhat true; however, patch 3.0 will be adding the first part of the PvE content patch with a new lvl 55+ zone. A new 80 zone, and a new all level zone (OT commons) are supposed to be out before the end of the fall season. These changes, coupled with the addition of the criminal system, AoC wil be a whole new game. I'd say that AoC will last just as long as WAR will. |

concern about lag in rvr and high pop servers
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 10/16/08 3:28:55 AM
Your question may be answered better in the WAR alliance forums. Many people, I'd say a good percentage of the pop, is experiencing these problems. I didn't buy the game after open beta because I had em and saw that the game would take at least 2 months of patch work before it would be properly balanced. I might give it another shot after its been out for 3-6 months. |

If I remember correctly, unless you actually fill that thing out and hit the "yea I'm sure I want to cancle" button your account is canacled. Just e-mail them and they will fix it if you actually cancled. |

Way to snip the my response. All companies are experiencing a drop in their stock, and most MMO companies experience a decrease in stock after the first few months of an MMO. The difference between FC and other MMO production companies is that FC has nothing but AoC to fall back on. Yes, their stock dropped due to AoC's "failings," but the reason its $5/share is not because AoC flopped, its due to the fall of the world economy. And the Game Director was most likely fired for not doing his job correctly. I mean after all this wasn't the first time he didn't do his job *cough* AO *cough* |

I saw this same post in the AoC offical forums and here is what happened to the person. He cancled his sub too late because he thought that the sub was active from the time the money was with drawn from his account, but billing isn't done this way. It takes 5 days from the time that the bill hits the bank( for it to be removed from you account. During these 5 days you are given a "grace period" so to speak of play time until the money actually reaches FC. Normally, it would only be 1-3 days depending on how you set up your payment system, but since FC does not have an american affiliate it takes longer. If the above poster isn't the same person then you can e-mail FC and they will fix the problem, I know they have for a couple of people. its not FCs fault, but their banking systems fault for not being updated correctly since its all atuomated. Its not like an MMO company maually submits their bills to banks anymore. |

Well I wouldn't say 90% since AoC still have well over 100k subs. My point was that the reason the population loss is actually felt in game is because there were too many servers to begin with. If AoC only had 5-10 severs, the population drop that every new MMO experiences (post WoW) would not be as hard felt.. Look at the community survey results and then the surge in population on the top 5 severs in AoC and you'll see what I'm talking about. Also, as someone else mentioned somewhere there are a good number of threads in the AoC forums that are "I left and now I'm back having fun" since patch 2.0 came out which was a little under a month ago. Edit: In response to all the "doom-sayers" it takes a lot of things to kill an MMO completly. UO, AO, EQ1, GW, FFXI, and the like are still around even though they are "dead" games. The question is, can AoC rebound? I say yes for the simple fact that even though people got "ripped-off" the game still offers more innovation to the industry than any game out, or comming out (save maybe Darkfall) in the next year. AoC falls into a similar situation as WoW. The difference is that AoC has more competition and is ran by a company that is small. I hate to say this, but FC and Saga are similar in many ways. Great companies with revolutionary ideas (Saga Channel, Saga CD anyone, counsole online play anyone?) but are resource limited. Lets just hope FC doesn't try to take their innovations too far like Saga did (Jaguar and Dreamcast) |

1: PvP patch part 1 is in. You can now gain the first 5 pvp level. After level 5 you stop gaining PvP exp. While people can currently cheat their way to level 5 they will be stuck at that level if they aren't any good once the 2nd part of the PvP patch is implemented because getting killed during PvP will cause you to lose exp. So, if you want to wait for the entire fall patch to be released, which should be by the end of Nov, then by all means do. The game should be entirely different at that time. |

Originally posted by GrayGhost79 All the above is true; however, I doubt that WARs popularity will remain steady considering how many people are complaining about it just like they did with AoC. All new MMOs will be held to a certain, which is a polished version of WoW. Why? because most people's first MMO was WoW and they didn't start playing it at release. IMO, an MMO can't be turly judged as successful, good, bad, or a faliure until the game releases its first major patch. AoCs first major patch, the Fall Content Update, still isn;t't done that yet, and probably won't be until the end of Nov. When its out and finished I'd like to see the Xfire numbers. I bet there will be the stead increase that i mentioned above |

I wouldn't use stock as an indication of AoC failings, but rather as the failings of the world economy. FC is a small company and at its peak this year was still only worth $50/share. Other companies have experienced a dip in their stock levels, while not on the level of FC, is still fairly high. Difference between FC and other companies such as Sony, Blizzard, and EA is that FC only creates MMOs while those companies have other games to fall back on. |

Xfire is a decent measure of a games popularity and how well a game is doing. What xfire can be used for is making game by game comparisons. This can be done by looking the drop in percentage of players using xfire over the course of a couple weeks and comparing it to another game. If you do this, you'll see that nearly every MMO has a first two month surge in subs and than a steep drop in subs in months 3 and 4 until poplation levels off around month 5. A slight surge in population will occur with the release of a major patch; however, if that patch does not deliver the hold outs will leave as well. Games this has happened to AoC, EQ2, GW (held out longer due to no monthly sub), City of Heros/Villans, FFXI (held a little longer due to FF name), LoTR, etc. WAR will expereince the same thing most likely. |
|
|
Thing with X-fire comparisons, if you look at objectively and realize its a self-selected survey, you will understand that it is possible to compare the samples gotten from Xfire to each other. If you do so you'll notice that WAR is experiencing the same thing AoC AoC did after launch. WAR will be losing subs, just like AoC has lost subs, because both games fail to be the savior MMO people have hoped for. After the initial hype and newness of WAR wears off many people will leave WAR and return to whatever MMO they came fun or try the next MMO, just like they did in AoC. The difference between the two, however, is that AoC offers a new combat system while WAR offers a beefed up verison of WoW mini games.
Edit: while I am new here and do play AoC I'm not here to just troll WAR. WAR has its strong points, but imo, is not innovative while AoC has its weak points but IMO is ground breaking. I think FC is like saga. Saga was the first system to have higher than 16bit graphics, more than 4 button controlers, in game cinimatics, saga channel (why don't other companies do this now), and use CDs to play games. The company crumbled because it tried to do too many innovative things at one time and because it was too small. The difference between Saga and FC is that FC has monthly subs that can keep the company afloat, Saga did not
