I started. I'm barely level 11 in melee and 10 in magic and havent done craft or havest quests yet. But so far I'd say it is pretty bad ass. I'm looking forward to making my own gear and racial and or FFA PVP sounds very nice. It's cool that they give pve and pvp options, and also nice that at least so far, I'm not leveling super fast and am not getting uber gear drops. I like earning my stuff. It seems odd that they have firearms. I want to ride a white elephant thing |

Gilgameesh, that worked!! ..but now I'm getting error code 1. I've read the tech tips regarding that, but am a little worried since all the posts are from like 2005. Any additional advice regarding error code1? I already tried turning off firewall, but that didnt work. Thanks |

When I try to lauch Ryzom I get this error Missing Required GL extension: GL_ARB_multitexture. I have a GeForce8800 and my drivers are the most current. I read on the offical forums that you can make an adjustment in the optinos section with config HOWEVER - I get this error while launching the game and as a result can't even get to the options screen. I also cannot register on teh official forums. I downloaded the client from ryzom's main page, it is version 637. Thanks

PVP is fun. I played on Sartok, the FFA server. My account ended 8/21/08. The population actually peaks at about 150 people pacific prime time these days. LIke I said, it's fun and it can be a challenge, but it hasn't received a single update since launch. |

Here some facts before you buy it(for the restless mmorpgplayers)

May I hear some more about the PVP aspect, please? I had read/hear that pvp was some kind of dorky arena that you went to and turned into a monster - Has that changed now? Can I fight as my actual avatar? Is it team/racial based, fffa, flagged or what. Graci |

Whoa Vespers!
Did I hit a nerve? It’s ok…let it all out. Although I expect your next post to be written in all caps, k?
Seriously, I didn’t make anything up. The proof is in the links. Click them and read.

I don't get the big deal about my registration date. If I have something to say I have to post, to post - I must register. It just happened that day was today.
Is this a numerology thing?

Check it The author registered on this board 7/31/08. His post in that thread was his first. Kinda odd how that it is. Did you ravage him with troll comments and speculation about the day his account was created?
Or is it more that you just don't like what I have to say?

Laura Genender (condolences to her friends and family) wrote:
“Vanguard makes a good game a couple hours a day, or only a couple days a week, but hardcore play or long-term play just aren't options, yet.”
She is right, in a way. Where she uses the word ‘yet’ I would replace it with ‘anymore’.
The one thing most MMO gamers seem to to do, myself included, is compare their game to WoW and wonder, if down the line their game will sell-out and try to become more like the WoW monster. In Vangaurd’s case the answer, unfortunately – Is a very big yes.
Vanguard has sold out and gone the path of simplifed game mechanics, easier leveling curve and in game ‘help’ items that by in large trivialize the challenge of a fantasy MMO while taking away the feeling of accomplishment, and replacing it with instant gratification.
This is clearly documented in Vanguard’s exit poll, which asks the following:
What led you to quit?
It was too difficult to level.
It was too difficult to move around.
It was too difficult to find quests.
It was too difficult to get a mount.
It was too difficult to get a house/boat.
It is loaded ‘polls’ like the above that insult the average gamer, and are offered not to actually gauge why players are leaving, but to justify the one-way vision of the games developers.
The community has tried to stem the tide. In this thread members cried out to not have the development team’s new idea of Bikini armor implemented
In this thread (originated by lead dev.Silius) members overwhelmingly supported the idea of a server with Vanguard’s original rule-set. 26 pages of /signed. The thread was then killed by the staff with nothing but a very odd explanation.
In this thread the community once again begged for an original rule-set server (6 months later). The thread was locked.
In this thread members discuss the possibility that Vanguard has undergone a slow motion NGE.
In this poll the community overwhelmingly voted to remove the Bind on Pick-up tag for loot (bind on pick-up made it so you couldn’t sell gear that was dropped by monsters.) The change was not implemented, and only the less desirable ‘blue’ items were re-tagged as being able to be sold.
The above is indisputable and is a matter of fact. Vanguard has sold out.
The developers and rabid fanbois (all 9 of them) use words like ‘tedium’ to justify the changes. Sadly, what they don’t realize is that having everything handed to you, or getting everything with little to no effort is just as tedious, if not more so – Than having to ‘grind’.
Vanguard’s attempt to be something it was never intended to be (casual wanna be WoW with slightly deeper PVE) is it’s failing.
Aside from the ‘easy street’ mentality, long standing bugs still abound.
The list is so long in fact that it’s almost pointless to continue, but trust me – I could.
It should also be noted that Vanguard's producer, Phathom aka Thom Terrazas, has not addressed the Vanguard community for over 8 months. And as of July, is apparently too busy to even post his own producers letter.
MMORPG’s own writer Fatebringer aka J Anderson will soon be writing about PVP in Vangaurd. That should be an interesting read since PVP within Vanguard has not been touched since the game was released.
Vanguard: Saga of Heros = Death by the slow and consistent loss of meaning.
The coroner’s report will read: Self Inflicted. |
