Outside of MT's this is one of my biggest concerns for the game. I want to know how the commander system works exactly, They already said they are going to have "matchmaking" so clearly they are expecting a lot of people to "pick up and play" rather then play more MMO styled "grouped".

The space shots are all pretty nice to look at, with the exception that there are too many asteroids in every single screenshot.

The ground stuff looks absolutely atrocious though.

Oh lord.....

It  is an early  Alpha build...

Don't play it if you think it is lame.

It is a lot farther along than I was expecting so I am pretty happy with the videos.

A lot further along? Its been in development for like 5 years...in most mmo dev cycles it would have already been released. On a side note, probably the most imporatant thing in the majority of MMO's is the combat side, it should be the first thing "completed". I was pretty dissapointed with the videos for that reason. Its not like they were showing off some test of some revolutionary combat mechanics, it was normal mmo combat, just more boring. I won't even get started on the "go here kill 5 chickens" quest...

FFXI is a great game but lets face it without a solid Linkshell after you cap the jobs you like to play doing anything else that requires a party is nearly impossible ala Rank 10 or Sky and Sea

Are you saying that you need a party to do rank 10, i trio'd all the way to rank 10 i all three nations, with the exception of 5-2 we took 4. Although your wording is quite weird, maybe you can elaborate on what you are trying to say?

This may have been touched on earlier in this thread, but can someone explain to me why all these cadets end up getting placed unto ships, and the Enterprise ends up having what 3 cadets on the bridge? Doesn't really compute to me...I

I don't give much weight to launch dates on gaming websites other than the official one.  Most of these dates are just pulled out of a hat.

If makes you feel better, I was at a Gamestop this weekend and they had it listed as Jan 26 2010 release.

You shouldn't be trusting the official websites either, Most MMO's first few release dates even on the official sites are usually wrong, lol. If you have ever tracked a game from announcment to release, you know how true that is.

So in Star Trek Online:

Captain Kirk (Picard, Sisko) is a PC

Spock (Data, Riker, Chakotay) is an NPC

McCoy (Crusher, Bashir) is an NPC

Sulu, Chekov, Uhura, Chapel, Rand, Troi, LaForge, Odo, Seven of Nine, and all of the redshirts are NPCs

And this is a good thing ??????????

STO takes place 30 years after Nemesis so all the above people you mentioned are either in their graves or retired.

I love people that read text, but don't read context. Honestly, you completly missed his point, why not reread it, formulate another opinion, and then edit your post.

the original developer for STO went bust and i think cryptic are using their engine

I don't understand how people like you are even able to post, spreading inaccuracies around every time you hit submit :(

The fact is, Cryptic is not using Perpetuals engine, in any way, shape, or form. When Cryptic obtained the IP license they began production of the game quite quickly as they already had an engine from their previous title. Yes, it is the same engine, but an updated version of it. Which is why Champions and ST:O have breezed through the development cycle. They are hardly using someone elses code though, its all in-house. So beore you go upping your post count plus one please stop and think about how little you actually know, and if the pixels and bandwidth of your post is actually worth it. I mean, just wow, you couldn't be any further from the truth.

For the OP though, you won't get a feel for ST:O from the other games really. What you should do is rather look towards people whom have played their past titles and examine how the company actually operates, such as community support, listening to players, completing promises, nerfs, updates, etc. Would learn a lot more that way.

So I been hearing all these '' lloolololol al paints buletin is vaprware '' comments, so let me tell you something. APB-Evolved fansite already had exclusive keys for the beta by Ulric himself. So please answer me, how is this vaporware?

Lol...maybe you are unaware but there have actually been lots of promises like that from vaporware games. So check your facts before posting please, a promise is nothing more then empty words until it is fullfilled. Aside from that fact, you are aware that post that he said that was what, 6 months ago? There has been absolutley no news since then, lol.

Oh wow, I completley overlooked the title of this thread, so I'm guessing you are confused; the keys were "promised" to be given out to members prior to a certain registration date, /when/ a beta is opened up. They are NOT currently playing it...lol.

Personally i have no idea why they are calling this an add on?as compared to just calling it the normal expansion pack?why all of a sudden this different terminology?

It appears to me that you are complaining about something that you actually have no idea what it is about. They are not expansions of any sort, and won't be implementing any widespread game mechanics, areas, jobs, gear, etc that would "tip the balance of power" that not owning an expansion would. There is a very large difference in not owning say RoZ, CoP, ToAU compared to not owning the mini-addons they are coming out with. I would even go so far as to say that as of now you aren't really missing much with not owning WoTG.

These will be nothing more then a minor week distraction, nothing less, nothing more. You are reading into it too much, which is why the forego'd calling it an "Expansion" as that it isn't, while yes its expanding upon the main game, its not really adding any "content" or "substance", its just "fluff" or "filler" if you will.

A few months down the road after these release, you will forget they even came out. They aren't going to have any real impact on the game in any way. On a side note, the people whom are creating these are not the same team working on WoTG, they are two different teams, so development of WoTG and other systems have not been effected. Its more of a "side project". The same thing happened with ToAU and WoTG, SE is large enough to have multiple teams working on multiple content, which by the way, they have been doing for years considering they have been developing their "next flagship MMO" for years now...

I spent 50 bucks on FFXI for xbox 360 and realize it was just a waste.

Beside the achievement unlocks, there is no merit using it at all.

Yes i do have a big HDTV with HDMI cable connect and with great setup on xbox 360.

But the problem isn't just control and graphic.

the problem is xbox 360 can't handle the game.

I have to say ... even a p3 computer run the game more smooth then xbox 360. I crash whenever beisged ends, the people never get loaded whenever i stand by moghouse in WG. And no i am not using the "wi-fi connect", i connect by cable.

The graphic did NOT change at all. My windower + personally game setting made the game a lot better then xbox 360 looks.

HD install ffxi and ffxi still require a disc to run, and it still sound like an airplace is trying to take off (i got the latest xbox 360.)

So .. really my advice is don't get it unless you don't have a PC that can run FFXI. IT will crash you a lot more. Like entering dynamis crash me in xbox 360 a lot too.

I'm sorry, but you are completly incorrect with 90% of what you just said. The only thing that is correct is the "graphic" which I laugh at anyways. They are /for the most part/ equal "out of the box", the difference is if you edit the PC version, then yes the resolution does look better. Everything else you stated is completly and utterly incorrect.

I have played and continue to play on each platform, depending on where in the states I currently am, and what I feel like using(I move around a lot). The X360 version may have an issue with besieged as I've heard about it freezing, but its not a completely widespread issue at all(I have done besieged/campaign/etc) since its conception, and rarely have a problem on any platform. Secondly, 360 does load less character models on screen then PC does(which is editable in the PC version), but who really cares? Finally, yes the game still requires the game to be in the disc tray, but it does not require the disc to actually spin , and as such the console makes zero noise 95% of the time. If yours is still making noise then you need to call Microsoft as you have a buggy console on your hands.

Aside from if you are a cheater or not, there is no real reason to play on any one console then another. PC offers ways to cheat consoles do not, and thats about the only difference. Play on what you believe you will be most comfortable with, or if you have the money to spare purchase two copys and play whichever on the given day.

Yeah part of the main reason why I quit in 2004 was actually the big elitist community as well. I hate those players who always judge other players based on what classes they choose to play" "Oh sorry, we already have 1 Dragoon or 3 Dark Knights,  we can't take you in, but if you have a Bard you can join the other 40 bards"

That kinda thing really pissed me off about HNMLS.

I am happy that SE added things to the game that every job can do and made end game much more casual and much less job Bias.

I'm sorry, but I really dislike people like you, very much so. The whole "elitist community" argument is downright astounding in terms of how much its used, while not being true. Yes, there is an "elite community", they are in all games, even outside of the MMO genre. The way you preach makes it seem as though the game is bogged by them, which is entirely not true. On average you get 1-2 "Elite" linkshells per server, so what 50 or so people per server? Out of thousands? I would hardly call that a "mind numbing majority" of the community to actually quit the game over.

There is a reason why games have "Elite" clans/guilds/linkshells and thats because players enjoy playing with others of their skill/progression level, if you want to throw the word eltitist around I guess thats something that you are going to do but you are entirely incorrect. In all honesty, it sounds to me as though you are one of those people that cry vocally because you were turned down from one of the top shells on the server you played, and thats just kinda silly.

Every MMO, even every competitve game(FPS/RTS), has clear sets of players. I mean lets take a main stream competitive game right now like COD4, would you honestly expect to go up to the leader of a team thats won multiple tournaments and expect to get in without ever playing the game? No, you would not. There are teams just for people like you, as such there are linkshells for people of your progression level.

I'm not saying theres something wrong with being at a different point in the game, but honestly, its time to get over your little stage of butt hurt. I guess I could be classified as an "Elitist" as my linkshell had pretty strict recruitment policies, 3+ jobs(1 DD / 1 Mage / 1 Support) with one being near fully geared and mertied as welll as a pretty lengthy "trial" process. Yes, we didn't allow the average player in, but that allowed us to reach our goals efficently, without much drama, and do what we wanted to do the way we wanted to do it etc, if you didn't fit our recruirements we would give you recommendations for shells on the server in which you would fit better. You would hardly get in without sea access, seeing as thats something we did heavily. Saying that people are "elitist" for it is quite obnoxious really,

Sounds interesting.  Still I would like to be able to see the insides of a ship.  At the least we should be able to see the vital areas of the ship.

As has been beaten to death on the official forums ship interiors will most likely come after launch.  Personally I think the game is looking fantastic but we have quite some time to wait.  One of the devs did let slip that this won't be coming until after Champion's Online so 2010 or 2011 release? :(

I hope your trolling with that 2011 release statement.

First off, there will be more than just 8 classes because you have to take into thought subclasses... Jedi have Guardian, Sentinel, and Consular. Sith have Marauder, Assassin, and Lord.

Those are more "specs" then they are classes...unless your trying to tell me there are games out there that have "over 50 playable classes". Anyone whos been in the MMO market recently would hardly call the same exact character, just with a different color lightsabre and slightly better mastery with either a sword or the force, as a new class.

Full voiceover = waste of space/time

Voiceover for critical story components = Yes

Voiceover for random NPC telling me to kill a rat = No

There are some eletists or I should say alot that don't ever like to return to the lower content regardless of being in ur LS and many that don't like to help unless it benefits them.

I love how we have to be elitist because we don't feel like content that we played to death 3 years ago. Some of us "elitist" actually like to play "newer content" for the game we are personally paying for. Aside from that fact, the shells where you will find those people are hardly open to people just starting the game. Seems like you personally managed to get into a pretty crummy linkshell, there are tons of good "noob" linkshells with "helpful players".

i always wanted to play a moogle.

Which is the smartest thing SE did with FFXI ... if they allowed you to play as a moogle everyone would be one ... or at the very least they would have a mule as one.

I love how far from the truth that actually is.

What is with all these companies and shoving instanced content down our throats...while instances allow for a lot of great things, when the majority of your game is instanced then your going down the wrong path. Honestly if I wanted to play instanced games I would go play GW, and save my 20~ USD a month.
