My impression of AoC after one week of trial

Keeping them stunned and Knocking them back for as long as possible and making sure they were all in the proper position. With mobs properly positioned, you can hit 4-6 mobs at the same time. (2 handed weapon required for the longer reach) Ah yeah, that's true. Barbarian is a melee DPS class, so let me rephrase. DPS = OP, Soldier classes = pathetic. Also, speaking of pots, the game is not very clear on crafting. If there is even a profession that allows you to make potions, you'd never know by just playing the game. |

My impression of AoC after one week of trial
General Discussion « Age of Conan 4/16/09 2:14:10 PM
I felt the same way, until I tried a Demo. Then, it all made sense to me. Melee = gimped, magic = OP. I was killing 4 mobs of my level at the same time when on a melee char, I could barely kill 2 (and still end up dead). |

Originally posted by Czzarre Exactly. It might not seem like things have evolved if you're new to the genre, but, to take the RTS example, look at Dawn of War 2. Would you look at that and think it's an RTS? I see no resource gathering/base building and destroying. No, I see tactical squad-focused and squad-based combat...in an RTS. Different? Yes. Evolved? Depends on your point of view. Things always change, whether it's evolution or devolution is based on opinion. The general concensus is that we are moving forward, however, if only by adding different things or shifting focus with certain games in the same genre as each other. |

Lol, common solution seems to be to turn the sound down or off. With crappy sound effects, I figured most people would've already done this with Darkfall. |

If they don't like your name... YOUR PERMANENTLY BANNED!

You do know that they are banning people just to be able to sell more accounts because it frees up space right? Get it?
Don't worry, prow can move on to other games soon enough. However, while is conspiracy theory probably isn't true, the meat of this thread is. And that's not whether names like Illlililil or whatever are right, or whether or not they're all hackers, etc. It's that Aventurine is being a bunch of dumbasses for perma-banning such names (or politely telling the user to delete their character) instead of giving warnings or using another more standard form of punishment, just in case there's an innocent thrown somewhere in there who is not a hacker. Inquisition: "Kill them all, let God purge the innocent from the flames". Darkfall: "Ban them all...laugh because they can't come back." Surprisingly, prow is also right about the flaws of Siphaed's example. When you buy a product, it's different than being an employee of a company. Darkfall already has a community image of a bunch of nerdy asshats running around killing each other, and nothing will change that. |

prow. Stick to trolling Darkfall, will ya? Just because this will be a sandbox MMO that will rape you because it's so good, doesn't mean you have to start nitpicking months and months and months before its release. |

Originally posted by openedge1 Alright, then I'll pick up where he left off. He seemed to be saying that PvP was weak and poorly implemented. I will assume that he's talking about a PvE server rather than a FFA PvP one. I have to agree, on a PvE server. PvP Minigames are pathetically useless and have no incentive whatsoever. PvP levels? Could've fooled me, I didn't even know they existed until my third Minigame. Eagerly awaiting higher level siege PvP to see if it improves, but as it stands right now, my PvP experience in AoC has been seriously lacking. OP also says people get 2-shot. This is also true (without healing of course). Besides that though, his post does seem trollish. I know you're all going to tell me to go to a PvP server before I start judging, and I will, but from what I can gather between the PvP Minigame combat and the PvE combat, all it will be is a bunch of nerds running around, finishing you off after you survive an encounter with multiple mobs, which is very difficult in AoC. Not sure what he means by side content, but leveling is linear by design so "linear leveling" isn't much of an argument.

That was great. I always wanted to experience what it was like to be a FPS WoW hunter (run around forwards, turn back really fast and shoot, rinse and repeat), except this is even more pure because there's no snares or special attacks or anything. AND speed hacks set to 5%! EPIC thank you javac thank you! Music ruined it though, but I have volume control on my speakers. |

Petition to Close down Warhammer?

Cast Lag Issue: Yes. Cast Lag Issues Fixed in 1.2.1: Yes (and adding .5 (.5, 1, 1.5, 2, etc.) second capability to the Cast Bar Timer to boot) Let's move along, shall we? |

Originally posted by DarthRaiden that statement is wrong. Single skills are tier / level based but your char is not depending on level and you can participate on everything in game without you having to watch on your "level". Can you do something better or can you do something new once you have level 26-50 skill? How about 51-75, or 76-100? If not, then it's not a level. You're not going from one thing to another, usually something better or more powerful. |

Where did all this Mythic-bashing come from?

Well, yeah. I was half kidding when I said WoW fanbots, you should know that lol. |

{mod edit} I hope you were kidding, really. If by some chance you're serious, the least you can do is elaborate. |

Got the game last Tuesday, and stopped playing today (4 days)
General Discussion « Darkfall 4/12/09 11:18:56 PM
Not sure about the OP's background history, but it really sounds like this is what happens when someone who isn't a UO or SWG or whatever vet tries this game. Being unblinded by nostalgia, they do what they would do in any other MMO (which has been stated already in this thread). Apparently, that'll fail in hardcore DF, so they'll try to adapt and change. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes not. However, like the OP, the first impressions may be so horrible that they decide to quit altogether. Obviously Darkfall is a niche game. OP, we should've warned ya. |

Why are people so happy doing mindless repetitive tasks?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/12/09 10:11:42 AM
For everything Runescape does wrong, one of the things it does right is quests (not sure about the newer ones, but some of the older ones, yes). They still have kill, Fed-ex, etc. types of quests, but they also have very long, difficult ones or even chains of long, difficult ones. Underground Pass, Monkey Madness, they required certain items to be effective against obstacles or bosses, they had puzzles, and even with walkthroughs, they were hard. Unfortunately everything else in the game is mindless, repetitive tasks in order to level your skills lol. Otherwise I might recommend it. Anyways, Runescape - immaturity and skill grind = one surprisingly good quest MMO. |

Originally posted by mcharj11 While I agree, the real culprit here is time. You have to understand that until about a year before release (including the delays), Keeps were not even in the game. They added Keeps in as kind of an afterthought, because people wanted them so badly (with memories of DAoC in mind). That means that they basically had enough time to get the Keeps in, the guards in, and the unique skin styles. Nothing more (since they had other things to complete as well in that time). That means that if they had delayed the game another 6 months, not only might it be more polished but they may have had time to get dynamic sieges in the game. Despite that they are introducing more than one way into the Keep soon enough. They've experimented with new siege weapons (Axe Hewer, even though it doesn't do damage to walls it shows that Mythic can add them in relatively easily), so look out for ladders and such soon. Destructible walls is also something the entire playerbase agrees on, so Mythic will hopefully make that their priority after a second ramp or possible ladders/siege towers, things that can be added in without making the walls destructible. |

Mythic, why didnt they just make DAOC 2

The frontier zone itself was the mingling grounds between the three sides. It wasn't an instanced battleground scenario (technically you could call it an instance, but you know what I mean). And six months after release DAoC was in much better shape than WAR is six months later. I dunno what happened. I realize things aren't as simple as they were back when DAoC came out, but it was just a better game. Check out WAR in June, you might see "Land of the Dead" shoved down your throat so much that you'll be curious and find out it's a massive RvR-gated zone (non-instanced)/dungeon like, oh, I don't know, Darkness Falls. Mythic didn't magically forget all their lessons from DAoC. |

General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 4/12/09 8:40:02 AM
Well with them really improving casting lag, proposing an RvR token system, further encouraging oRvR, diversifying Keeps a bit (second ramp is already confirmed, but not in 1.2.1), etc., you can bitch and cry all you want. Unless you don't like the core mechanics of the game (waaaah I dun liek PVPz), you will probably start seeing some nice changes. WAR is going to be far from closing down. Did I mention some balance nerfs to AoE damage? CC in T4 is still a rampant problem though. Will see what Mythic does about that. But, hey, maybe once they cut AoE down to size, you don't have to die in 2 seconds anymore when you're rooted/stunned/disabled/knocked down. |

Oh yeah I heard they're gonna roll out a MENSA server soon, don't worry. Your idea is great, but Blizz already thought of it. |
