TSW is B2P and the client is cheap, no monthly fee, well worth the small outlay. Yup will be going back to Rift, had a lot of fun, wanted to go back for the expansion but for some unknown reason I couldn't update nor re-install the client, support were very patient and helped but could never connect to their servers, hoping the F2P transition may help with that. |

[Preview] Guild Wars 2: The Super Adventure Box Revealed
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 3/31/13 6:42:47 PM
Anet have always been fantastic with their April Fools 'jokes' (commando reveal for GW2 was always a fave along with its quest line in GW), this takes the biscuit. A whole month of 8bit frustration and fun. GW2 has never been a game that takes itself too seriously, you only have to listen to some NPC conversations to get that. This fits fine and dandy, Asura being the perfect vehicle. Nice one anet :) |

If any what book/film do you think would make a good mmo ?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/19/13 6:34:24 PM
Currently reading The Malazan Book of the Fallen, on Book 8 : Toll The Hounds. The book has distinct races and tribes, distinct classes, from cadre healing mages, through high mages to foot soldiers and assassins, different continents and a great lore, it seems good to go for a game on the surface, BUT it's the pathos of the characters, the story of individual and group journeys that make it what it is. It's an epic series and no game nor movie could ever do it justice. This is the core problem of creating games from a known IP. Basing a game loosely on it's world and characters could work but without heavy involvement from the author it would struggle to grab the imagination and support of its fans. Committed fans of any IP are going to be critics of anything outside of its original source. It's an uphill battle and translation in to other media has very rarely succeeded. IMHO It's much better to create something unique that suits the developers vision of what the gaming aspects should be. |

TSW wins MASA (Music + Sound Award) for launch trailer
General Discussion « The Secret World 2/26/13 10:27:29 AM
Fan made one is good, though I question that the music used is that dark? Way too upbeat in my eyes. Great song though. The original FC launch trailer still does it better for me. |

TSW wins MASA (Music + Sound Award) for launch trailer
General Discussion « The Secret World 2/22/13 5:18:17 PM
A well deserved win. The choice of music is inspired, the syncing of in game sounds are done perfectly to match the crescendo of the soundtrack, loved it. Captures the mood of most of the game incredibly well. Grats to FC :) |

I don't know and don't care at what level fractals get agony to such a degree that the ascended gear is crucial, I play fractals for the fun not the gear and am not interested in increasing my difficulty level, just about the fun with the people I'm with. Having said that agony resistance is crucial for survival at much higher levels, it's probably the only real difference, so no fractals aren't gated until you get to a much higher difficulty level, then they are most definitely gated by agony resistance. Like I said it's such a tiny portion of the game that for me it's not currently worth worrying about. But gating does exist. |

High level fractals are gated by the agony mechanic, so you can still play fractals without until you start hitting the agony mechanic once you've gotten high enough. That's a tiny portion of the game but the gating does exist. |

New player looking for some assistance.
General Discussion « The Secret World 2/17/13 7:21:10 AM
The newcomers section over on the official forum is a great place to post and find out some useful tips. The drakkashi skill wheel is useful for playing with potential builds. unfair has some great guides, loads of spoilers though so I suggest ignoring the mission section unless you really need help. Any specific questions you have post back here and I'll be happy to help. |

Better combat than the root you to the spot while you cast games that are abundant for sure. It also makes you think about what's going to be useful and what isn't, I'll admit though it is easy to get a build that will see you through a lot of the game but I can guarantee they'll throw something at you that will force you to change. I can't see myself playing a game that roots you while casting again, which is the majority. |

Playing TSW has been the richest PvE experience I've ever had in a game, from a story, questing and atmosphere perspective it blows the competition out of the water as far as I'm concerned. I don't PvP so have no comment to make on that, the combat though does have its flaws, the animations have improved since release but it still misses that feeling of connecting, there's little weight to it. A user over on the official forum used RP to get over that one: We're not hitting with blades and bullets, we're hitting with our Anima. That doesn't work for all of us though :) I'd still like to see improvement. Skill system is great, yes some skills overlap, that's inevitable with this kind of system, otherwise using different weapons would be either gimp or over powering. The thing with it is that it gives you plenty of choice in how to approach encounters and build decks to meet different situations, you're never locked in to a role or profession. It uses the trinity system, that's fine, it maybe a little tired but it does the job. I think, from a PvE/Story perspective it does an absolutely amazing job. |

What MMO has the best CGI trailer that most accurately represents the game?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/25/13 3:40:36 AM
Not really CGI but I think The Secret World Launch Trailer, with an inspired soundtrack, portrays the feeling of the game perfectly. |

The Secret World: Player Activity Up 400% Since Relaunch with B2P
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/10/13 2:33:34 PM
Bought the game pre-order, loved it but the timing wasn't great, GW2 stole my soul. The B2P announcement came just as I was getting burnt out on GW2, this time perfect timing, at least for me. I love it and will be throwing money at DLC and maybe the occasional outfit. Really pleased this is working out for them, I hope it's sustainable, really is a great game. |

The poll is flawed, where's the options for 'just show me the results' or 'don't know' ? I fall in to the latter, all depends on how the game progresses and what we expect from the expansion, didn't vote. |

What games are you currently playing and why? [January]

TSW for the setting, lore and the humour. Challenging and fun. On a short holiday from GW2, will be back to that soon too. |

GW's horizontal progression was skill collecting and build creating, secondary professions provided for a fantastic wealth in build diversity. GW2 offers a very limited skill set with no known future expansion for them. I can see how they've given themselves an easier time but they took away, from what a lot of people felt made the original title so great. Sure a ton of those builds might have been terrible but you had fun finding out :) In GW1 the top tier gear, I'm talking looks here not stats (stats equaled out as soon as you hit max level of 20), had a ridiculous grind element to them. Part of me thinks they are looking at that and thinking that's how GW2 should work, hence the low drop rates of T6 items, etc and the ridiculous grind to get them, the problem though is without the ability to build on your character in other ways, the journey through that grind gets monotonous very quickly. If they are looking at the grind for FoW and UW armour and thinking that's OK in GW2, that's a mistake IMHO. Where's the other carrots? Grinding for stats has been done to death, it's artificial progression, a never ending hamster wheel that was used to keep those subs rolling. Ascended gear is likely to be rolled out over months, adding pieces over time might help keep some of the stat chasers happy, they know it was a mistake to add them as they did, FOTM while being great fun shouldn't be the only way to get this gear, grinding dungeons is old hat, done to death, I expect better of Anet. Appeasing horizontal progression players could include a number of things, Terranah's post has some great ideas, some of them I'd echo myself. I think the biggest thing they could do to appease the horizontal crowd and I'm sure what most GW1 players would love to see is an expanding of the skill system, give it some of the depth that made GW1 such a great game. As it stands it's not the shallowest of systems but it doesn't touch the flexibility of the original. |

Lol that cracked me up, loved the reply Gaile gave him, short and to the point :) I think it's admirable that Anet are trying to keep the forums free of name calling, it doesn't help the discussion. |

This game is a mess! (impressions of a new player to the secret world)
Reviews & Impressions « The Secret World 1/03/13 12:02:33 PM
I rolled a new character just after B2P was announced, also after The End Of Days event had begun. I managed to kill the first spawn of the mob before I reached Kingsmouth, OP did you aggro someone else's spawn? The spawns are 'level' appropriate. In fact I didn't know that accepting the mission that starts would stop the spawns, had to kill a couple of them before I sussed that out. Lag - I don't get any at all, playing from the UK on Arcadia server. There are definitely, and always have been, problems with chat and the latest community server drop outs are probably related, the system just doesn't work as it should. Aside from that my gaming experience has been smooth, full of rich storyline, challenge and fun, certainly not a mess. I don't PvP in TSW so no comment on that one. |
