seriously, i am sick to death of logging in, seeing WoW all over the chat, leaving the channel.....Even in the LFG channel all it is, is a discussion about WoW this and WoW that....stop comparing the 2 games, WoW was not a "pioneer" game. If anything you guys should be comparing this game to L2.... So please leave my LFG chat and go back to your cartoon that pretends to be an MMO.

END OF LINE.

Welcome to the new world of MMOs where millions of noobs who have never touched a real MMORPG sing WoW's praises as the creator of all RPG mechanics that have been used in MMOs since 1998. WoW is the only MMO I can say without any doubt in my mind, that it did absolutely NOTHING new. Not a single game mechanics was innovated or created. All WoW is, is a kid friendly cut down version of EverQuest. But, because they targetted people who don't play MMOs, it was a raving success, and now the rest of the industry suffers under the weight of its fanboys.

Whats a real MMO then? No WoW didnt do anything new......but then neither do most MMOs. Most of them seem to follow the same formulae and build on it. WoW just followed that formulae very well......hence its popularity.

WoW is a kid friendly cut-down version of EQ? Hardly. It simply took all the mindless mob grinding and dressed it up with quests and little stories to help disguise the repetitive gameplay. I have fond memories of playing the original EQ but if I went back to it now I'm pretty sure I would find it extremely boring. Even EQ's sequel followed exactly the same path as WoW. Kids were and still are quite capable of playing the original EQ. It wasnt that complicated ya know. I think you probably just have an inflated view of "the good old days".

Oh and the industry isnt "suffering under the weight of its fanboys". Its making shit loads of money out of them.

Every MMO out there has brought something new to the table and HAS NOT BEEN A WoW CLONE...

every mmo has the same elements, listed earlier in this forum and am not going to list them again, WoW just has nothing to make it different or unique the discription of an MMO is WoW if you take everythign WoW has that is the discription of an MMO...

here are examples of things that make MMO's different and unique an new...

AoC(2008)- Pushed MMO Graphics and inovative Battle system.

CoH(2004)- Brought the idea of Super Heroes to the MMO world.

DDO(2006)- the private instance questing system with a central social area.

EQ&EQ2- pushed MMO's to a new Level and Created a new standard in 1999, 5 years before world of warcrafts release in 2004

FFXI(2003)- Sub jobbing and swithcing jobs on the fly.

FLYFF(2005)- F2P Item shop Model inovation.

Guild Wars(2005)- PVP driven game with a F2P Model.

LoTRO(2007)- MMO based off a beloved book.

Vangaurd(2007)- Inovative crafting System and Parley card battle system... and a million different glitches...

WoW(2004)- Huge ad Budget which made millions of Non-gamers(AKA noobs) join the MMO world... other then that not much inovation there...

and finally Aion(2009)- with the new World Style Lore and Fantasy based Weapons and Armour. even the wings has been done before with Perfect world.

i know i didnt list all the MMO's and their key features that set them apart and what made them great but these are examples of things that have made the MMO world what it is today and why WoW did not Set the Bar or do anything other then make MMO's Main stream which is not an easy thing to do when 10 years ago geeks were the minority the ones getting picked on at school, now we rule the world.

Yes of course how can you possibly compare them? The only things they have in common are......

A game world with its own lore
A character creation system where you can.......
Change your appearance and........
Choose your race and class
Skill trees
NPC's
Quests to complete
Mobs to kill with limited AI and an aggro radius
EXP points to be gained from doing the above which lead to.......
Levels to be gained which lead to......
Areas designated to various level ranges
Crafting system to make stuff
Harvesting skills to gather ingredients
Recipes/blueprints
Loot to be found from killing and crafting things
Grouping options
Solo and group content
Areas designed for raiding and other group activities
Zone, global, group, whisper, say chat systems
Mounts
Pets
Control method using the WASD keys
An action bar containing all of your skills/attacks etc
Auto targeting
Swimming-no swimming in most mmo's out there >.>
You can jump
A map with a radar
Quest journals
PvP features
Minimal death penalty
Auction house run by the players
Multiple servers
Any other little bits and bobs which I have probably missed

Apart from those things they are completely different games. Yeah its totally amazing that anyone finds any reason to compare them. What on earth is wrong with people?! They must be mad!

Yes this is true but those are the factors that well describe a MMO period being on this site you can just go click the MMO list and see all the other games out there with these amazing up to date features.... (pss sarcasm incase you cant tell)... but yah what ever... since WoW was a clone of the games that were there before it... people just need to stop bringing WoW into the picture say like Aions crafting system is not as advanced as Vanguards but at least it doesnt have as many glitches, or there is more freedom of movement in this game then guild wars... blah blah blah i am also tired of hearing about WoW when i am playing Aion so much so only chats i have active are party and Exp now. but i think it is these people who think they are MMO experts because they joined in the WoW crowd and all they know and have ever played is WoW and have finally gotten bored and are looking for somethign other then WoW. but little do most of them know that there are many other MMO's out there more allot better then WoW. broaden your horrizon and get to know the market before making compairisons.

ok rant done... i really had to get that out of my system...

well Square enix and sony online entertainment are going to be there side by side in the convention booths 5200 & 5201 i hope they have good news for me >.>

From what i have heard it is going to be skill based lvling no exp at all, so i wonder if you can be all jobs at once have specialties in certain areas and say have warrior skill maxed out then go to another class and start lvling its skills with the wariror skills still usable. at that having the stat boosts from maxing out warrior like strength boost.

I have had a hard time finding a MMO that has grasped my attention recently but none has done that like IMagine online, easiest way to describe this is pokmon on steriods... the world is post appocalyptic and you are taking part in the war that follows. Demons get released into the world you get to catch(negotiate a contract with them) and have them fight by your side, there are only 3 real "classes" gunner, mellee and magic. the only thing is there is mass amount of customizability for each class where by using certain skills you gain skill points in that skill to gain new skills and by getting high points in a few different skills you gain special skills like if you gain expertise in magic and gun skills you get magic bullets. on top of all this it has a pretty fun storyline to play through if you like RPG's like persona, digital devil saga, and the likes of shin megumi's past you will love this game.
