rift is by all means a raid or pvp game. if you care about exciting leveling, well ... mmo's arent for you. at least i havent found 'the great' leveling experience yet. If you go into pvp smashing your beloved button (which i dont understand at all, haveing gcd and such ...) you'll get face rolled like all those other button smashers. diversity in the small scale is Rifts top feature - there are lots of cc's, counter cc's and de/buffs to get, you can do everything in 10 different ways (yes, its only small differences, enough for me). Then again: am i waiting for more innovative combat (like AoC's)? - yes, sure! Did i know what i get, and is it fun (Rift)? - yes, sure.
Wraithone, Sir, you win.

How many other familiar issues have you come across in not enjoying your sojourns through the various Warfronts so far?

Of course, the standard replies for these will be:

Do not queue until you are at least halfway up the bracket, preferably higher.
Queue with friends to avoid the AFKers.
Queue with friends to have your own premade.
Roll your own healers so you too are overpowered.
We are only a few days in, roll your own IMBA...

What a difference a few days have made, eh?  Went from having a blast to wondering WTH I'm doing there.  Wait, that was from earlier today to recently... arrrrggggggggggggh!

mod edit: let's have less insults.

to get some spice in here: it's the WoW-killer. 1 million accounts on first weekend. ah yes - its the best game ever too! so you are simply wrong OP :D
as 99,9% of mankind is hardly intelligent enough to breath alone, all mmo-communities are bad ;)

Really doesnt want a gankfest going on in their game. Take aion for example it was open world for a long time. It took a massive hit for it and they nerfed it. Low and behold the game gained ground and a fan base again. Every single game in mmo history that based its life off open world pvp is in the recycle bin or bankrupted.(APB) Get over get used to or cry if you want. You wont see it ever again unless bill gates says hey lets make a game and waste millions. Just so pvp'ers can epeen about their survival skills. While the rest of the world says yea ill pass on this gankfest game. Yea good luck with that failure lol....

thanks! well written.
europe server communities dont seem overly bad to me. people are dumb as bread these days - in and out of the internet - but who cares? they are amusing, if not, turn off chat. OP: you got other problems than your gaming anyway, not? ;) one who gets pissed that easily and has to point out his age should find out what really buggers him - and if its RIFT .. well you know Darwin.

besides everything the OP is saying is plain worng, the main error is that Tera will fail even harder then most korean shit, because of the overhype ;)

every serious mmo-addict will at least try it. i personally dont know anybody in my current guild who didnt preorder.

Its new, its fresh - and in opposite to all the crap of the last years, its good.

Starting zones

It's somewhat weird to have that many ways to create your character with all those talent trees, but to be forced to fight your way through exactly the same content each time, having only two starting zones to choose from.

that just is telling that they actually learned and listened. give me a penny for each completely empty starting zone in all those games out there. instead: do 2 good ones, amass the players, have fun. you are through in 1 day anyway.

I wonder if souls you haven't put points in can be switched out at any time. That would be interesting. Until you put points in a soul, it's not locked into your character.

 indeed they can

and the above explanation is correct - each soul has 1-2 free skills that come with equipping it.

when will people find out that to make a good game in the mmo genre, you dont have to re-invent the mmo genre? only because you can spell "innovation" that doesn't mean that every good game has to be something completely new! people are just insensitive to good games, because they are flooded with crap. you wouldnt see a good game if it hits you in the face.

RIFT is WARWoWLotro 2.0 and therefore it will be succesfull. Like a new, better made actionblockbustermovie with better actors than the last 500 actionblockbustermovies will be another success. every summer.

In this most recent beta 5, I played extensively trying to go through as many different aspects as possible. After all those hours, I've realized this: RIFT tries so hard to be WoW and tries to capitalize on its few mistakes. Even things that seem illogically placed, or seem to bear no function, or just seem to not work are undoubtedly there because WoW had it. Consider:

Tangible/irrefutable/undeniable FACTS:

- RIFT's user interface is a twin/siamese brother (/or even a conjoined fetus) of World of Warcrafts UI. Floating numbers, group window, target's target windows, casting bars, health/mana/energy bars, bar colors, character portraits, maps, minimaps, loot boxes, loot icons, mouse over icons, icon placement, text color, text font, font size, etc etc. I've mentioned this to other players and the response is usually "WoW did not invent these things." My rebuttal is please point to a game pre exisiting WoW that has a UI as similar.

- Various mechanics are identical to WoW. Rogues use a 100 point energy system. The regen rate might be exactly identical to that of WoWs, idk. A combo point system is also in place (with those little shiny bubbles building up, looking exactly the same, ho ho!)

- There is global cooldown system (What reasonable argument is there to have this in place, other than WoW has it? What reason is there when there already exists weapon speed and casting speed?)

- There is renown / honor (though named differently, to exercise originality!), and you can buy gear with this form of currency.

- Warfronts, ala battlegrounds with leaderboards.

No critique is well built without compliments. The good:

- The soul system. Many variations of classes. It is actually addicting to try and figure out which class you want to level as because there are so many choices.

- Roles. Disables the need to roll a new class. You'd have to level at most 4 characters (one for each race) to the max level and you could try every class, unless you wanted a BG twink or something.

The main 'gimmick' of this game is as the title suggests: RIFTS. A rift is a random PvE encounter that spawns throughout areas. Therefore, the game's main interest is to cater to PvE folk. You can see this because pretty much all PvP related things involve PvE. In Port Scion, RIFTs will randomly spawn. Devs say that this will draw players to each other. There are also things called wardstones that players can fight over; one faction tries to destroy it, the other tries to save it. It's like, they try to draw players into fighting each other over PvE related crap. That's just my opinion though. The only thing that keeps my interest is if there will be a FFA server at launch. I doubt that will happen though, because WoW does not have such a server.

you type a wall of text titling it "critique" -- but there is none. you point out obvious similarities - but you dont say why they would be bad. its not only you, but many. where is your problem? you know, most first person shooters use a crosshair - most often they look exactly the same! doesnt define the game though, does it?

sandbox is a really small, but vocally loud, niche. no one cares for them. 50% lol ...

Game Engine?

i dont care what engine they are using at all - they are using the right one. beeing able to hit a giant mob in midst of an invasion with hundreds of players, mobs, environments without lagging and never under 20 FPS on ultra settings is just insane performance that wasnt brought to us in that quality before. period.

many great posts here. what many people see wrong here imo, is that the 'masses' are looking for something overall new! the 'masses' of players cant even handle something slightly new! they want an actualized, shiney, polished version of the same old story, with some good ideas thrown in.

it will take years till most of the players will even be able to handle the "omg this cleric can tank, this mage can heal, ..." system. beta prooved that.

Rift delivers. my estimation is that it will 'beat' SWTOR by far in numbers for example.

AoC combat is the way to go. Everything else on the market is just sleeping pills.

there is no such thing as a 'waste of time'.

you got about 80 years to bend down on this planet. it's completely irrelevant what you do in that time as its yours.

amateurish psychology/philosophy is bad and awkward.
