[Interview] ArcheAge: XLGAMES Address Monetization Worries

I don't think I'll play this now, and it's a shame because I thought it would be the only good game since Lineage 2. This is WORSE than a botfest or pay to win.. I could always get what I wanted in other games.. these new currency systems and bind everything you pick up/equip sucks...
Now it just like a mashup of Lineage 2/WoW with Forsaken World's god awful pay to win cash shop system that makes it so you can't play without cash shopping. (literally - all the gold in FW is from cash shop, and ingame stuff doesn't really sell)

No. Just no. The only remotely half-decent f2ps are Aion and TERA (don't take this as praise, they're still kinda crap), as well as private L2 servers running old pre-karma-system-change server software.
Neverwinter is more PWE/Cryptic rubbish run by morons not even worth the development cost, and this game is clunky and the cash shop seems every bit as P2W as terrible games from PWE.
Why do people praise such terrible games? I only had to look at this game's cash shop to tell it was bad. A couple levels showed how clunky it is compared to TERA. A video review showed that the later levels aren't much better either.

Nobody likes their games, everyone hates them as a company. They're about as nefarious as Nexon except Nexon's ruining higher quality games than PWE has.
Anyone starting to think FTP is gonna be the end of it.

Most AAA games don't even have 50k, you can forget an indie having that. TERA has maybe 25k tops.
F2P makes more than P2P because people are stupid and complacent (look how many white knight these fail companies!), and there isn't a casino law against these scammers. Corporations don't give a flying shit about you, they do what's: a. cheapest b. brings the most money c. anything not explicitly illegal
The solution is legislation regarding what is and isn't okay. There should be refunds on epic fails like Neverwinter, and scam boxes that PWE are so well known for should become a long forgotten thing of the past. This nonsense of PWE making games where all (or 95%) of gold is cash shop sourced as in Forsaken World should also be illegal. I've never seen a game with a worse economy and than that pos FW where paying to compete is mandatory.
Perfect World obliterates every game they get their greedy hands on.
I hope this company fails, but seeing as how they're making loads of profit off of idiots with their blatant money-grab techniques and quickly made fodder games, well, I don't think my wish will come true.
It's a shame. The game could have had potential if Perfect World weren't involved. Or better yet, if it wasn't f2p.
I would ditch the soundcard (this coming from an audiophile (not audiophool)). That aside, Creative has the worst drivers of all, and is a downright evil, vile company that should go die.
Most integrated audio these days is audibly transparent. Most sound cards are transparent. The tricks your mind plays on you!
I do however think laptop integrated is typically bad - always sounds worse than my desktop for some reason, especially on expensive IEMs.

I played FW for over a year, you're deluding yourself if you think it's not pay to win. The whole game relies on the cash shop to SUPPLY gold and lately it's much harder to make money since everyone figured out how the richest non cash shoppers were doing it..
I knew two people who did make $1000s of ingame cash without cash shopping, but they were also the 2 smartest players i've ever met in an MMO and they also had NO REAL LIFE AT ALL. The vast majority of people who don't cash shop can't and will never catch up to the cash shoppers, especially not the ones that spent thousands on mastery.
You can spend leaf on pretty much anything and everything. Leaf exchange -> gold. You can even buy arena gear by paying cash shoppers to "boost" you.
There is absolutely no pve content in FW, and the pvp is completely dominated by cash shoppers who spent upwards of $10,000 on gems/mastery.
Get a 6xx card. As long as that 450 watt PSU isn't cheap chinese crap and has enough amps output on the 12v rail(s) you will be fine since it uses 300 watts or so system-wide for a 660/660TI.
As an owner of a 7850 and several previous cards on both sides, I can tell you don't waste your money on AMD. Both companies have their problems, but NVIDIA has essentially snuffed out AMD with their anti-competitive software mode physx which does not use any additional instructions like SSE, avx, and is limited to one core.
If they updated physx to use modern instructions and multiple cores when no physx hardware is present, I suppose AMD cards which lack physx could get by, but why would NVIDIA want competition?
1. No physx (see Borderlands 2 benchmarks)
2. crap drivers
3. you WILL always have more graphic flaws in general with amd
4. AMD has recently changed their driver release schedule, and old cards take the biggest hit (actually, old cards have always been pretty much ignored but it will be worse now)
5. and I seriously need to exaggerate the slew of mystery problems with AMD. their hardware is questionable at best, and their software(CP,profiles)/drivers is downright garbage I'd expect a group of kids to make.
Their CPUs are even worse...
If you do make the idiotic choice of going with amd, make sure you get a reference card. There are noticeably more issues with non-ref cards.
If you are thinking of checking forsaken world out . My guild would be happy to help ..

I'm gonna save your prospects some trouble, they need not bother with this game.
Basically, FW only served as a temp game til D3/TERA/GW2 etc. It was actually fun at first before cashers maxed out and no longer needed to buy things, but now everyone has level 80 mastery ($4000) and gear drops like candy (ToK) or from arena/zodiac only.

I'm level 80 and gained 114 croma, 45 mastery, and +9-11 gear and I can tell you this review is a crock.
This game has no content, besides whatever's in your wallet. Once you hit 80 all there is is farm certain quests and farm money, or play AH all day. Gear has gotten so cheap you're just better off playing the AH all day really. That and farming Ghostfang whenever you can find leads - or make 200 level 60 alts and get their dedication to 60 weekly and run GF all week. Ugh, terrible.
IR sucks, even PW's TW was better and it sucked too. Can't compare to L2 siege, or the old glory days of Ragnarok Online. What little PVP there is on the PVP server sucks. And is mostly composed of the top 3 guilds one shotting each others' 60k hp after wasting 30 minutes farming red hand and idling for a stupid Zodiac boss to spawn.
Basically, any positive reviews of this game are from people who haven't played long. Everyone else knows it sucks. Their 10 year old DirectX 8.1 engine is also terribly unstable and crashes incessantly.
Edit: the craft system is worthless besides artisan, basically. The only rings that sell are with uber rare crit dodge/crit def, and they sell for 2d+ ($20+) but don't let that entice you because you'll only get one in 200 crafts if you're lucky. Most people just use Arena rings, since they're better than anything you can craft. Same thing with necklaces - but they can get you higher max profit with Crit Dmg/Crit chance (5d+).
You can only craft low level gear (weapons/armor)that can't compare to ToK set or arena purples, and this is by far a worse job than artisan or jewelry. Only a few hardcores bothered to max the jobs for bragging rights.
Additionally, to craft upper level gears you must be in a guild with a high level base - pretty retarded.

70 levels of Warrior experience is telling me you should have rated this game as 3/10. 3's the rating of the graphics.
-Pay to win. Period. Lot of the CSers are noobs but that doesn't stop them from spending even more to compensate - see CreditcardFX and PaypalDan.
-If you aren't 60+ you can't really pvp.
-60+ instances are long (40 minutes+, 65 one can take well over an hour), annoying, and have garbage drops. I stopped doing them since it's easier and faster to use more creative means of making money then just buying what you want. Even the 50- instances would be bad like this, but people abuse bugs to shorten the runs. Haha...
-On top of my previous instance comment, skills at 65+ come from instances, and unlike gear, any class can roll on them (wtf!) so you get shafted after you do 20 runs hoping to get your skill. You basically need a permanent party of friends who won't shaft you...
-Grindy as hell. The quests are WORSE than grinding, you repeat the same dailies every day, and wester every hour, and those lame grind scrolls if you got excess time in your schedule.
-The game schedules for you with the instance/stupid weekly quests, ugh. You should be able to play when YOu want to.
They advertised this game as being casual/westerner friendly but it most certainly is not. If you're in a guild, you also have to waste your time on garbage trade runs - the soul gold and merc rep you gain does not justify the time spent, such a nuisance.

Blatant shill for the company.
Client crashes for everyone , client lags even on the fastest cpus/gpus due to garbage 8 year old angelica engine.
As with all PWE/Wanmei games it's a quickly produced scheme from the China MMO Factory to make money with minimal costs to themselves, whose updates primarily revolve around ways to get you to spend more, with little regard to how the ingame economy is affected.
Hi Rift Community!!! What Now? What dirrection do you want Trion to go in? What features do you want them to work on now?

I want the game to be a Lineage 2 Clone instead of a WoW Clone.
I'd pay for an L2 clone or spiritual successor, but World of Rift? No way.

For the vast majority of F2P MMOs OB == Release. The cash shop is open and there are no more wipes.
Also. You don't want an EU pvp server, the pvp server has too low population as it is.
Open Beta, which starts March 23 (i think?) will not wipe. All data in the "closed" betas will be wiped at some point. Pretty much standard fare.
does this game need remote differential compression?

The engine itself is at least 7 years old, single threaded, and sufferes the same performance problems of all previous Angelica Engine games. It's entirely bottlenecked by your cpu's raw clock speed, and I can forsee a CPU @ 6ghz still having problems in populated areas like Harbor with water/shadows turned on.
It's sad when a even a game like Kabod is multithreaded, yet a massively anticipated game like FW is not, even despite the fact people have been complaining about this engine flaw for at least 4 years.
Q6600 @ 2.8 ghz = can't use water/shadow, and 10 fps in harbor on low
Sandy Bridge @ 4ghz = 20-30fps in harbor, and in other areas can afford to turn water/shadow on... both systems same GPU
It's really not like WoW. It's more like "generic mass produced angelica engine game number 12 meets a bunch of lame wow features that shouldve stayed in wow with added $100 monthly fee to stay competitive"
Rift on the other hand is a blatant WoW clone in pretty much every way, terrible game cloning another terrible game.
Can anyone tell me if this MOBO configures correctly with my CPU and rest of setup?

Looks fine aside from nvidia generally being faster than ATI, and having far better drivers.
I wish I hadn't jumped on the ATI bandwagon, my ATI gives me loads of trouble and AA never works properly where my old slower nvidia almost NEVER had problems.
Also, SSDs are mandatory, especially with a monster cpu like 2500k. Get an Intel 3rd gen or C300.

Or you can not be a tool and get an i5 2500k and get more real world performance despite having two less cores. Bigger difference yet if you overclock it.
But yes, ssd is mandatory indeed.
