SE is not messing things up.  Alot of games experience queues when they first launch, or when a major expansion is launched.  Hell it's happened everytime WoW put out an expansion and it's going to happen again when Cataclysm comes out, and it' wont' be a paltry 216 either.   All games have growing pains, all launches have hiccups, and you, OP, need to learn some patience.

Because it shows that they haven't really done their research, and I'm not talking lore-wise.

I'm going to assume that, hopefully, they have enough sense to put some heavy PvP/RvR into a Warhammer game. That said, you would think they would look at Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning and other PvP games, like DAOC and even MO/DFO and whatever else is out and see what seems to be working/not working for those games.

You think they would realize that more factions in PvP/RvR is MUCH more balanced than 1 v 1.

You do make an excellent point and I do agree that 1 vs 1 is not a very appealing or balanced way of making a PvP/RvR style game.  Odd numbers of factions would work best (I think DAoC has three) and with the large number of factions available in Warhammer 40k five would be more suitable.   I personally didn't like how the dark elves, orcs and chaos were all thrown together in one 'disorder' faction in Warhammer.  Just because they are evil races doesn't mean they are natural allies (wheras the Empire and Dwarfs have been allied since the time of Sigmar.)

But my original point doesn't change, just because the devs haven't added enough content or lore at this point to give it enough 'warhammer 40k' flavour doesn't mean they cannot add it later.   My point is the game is simply too far from release at this time to start speculating on it.  Alot can change between now and then, content added, hopefully for the better.   Anything the devs say now can't be considered the final word, it's just what they plan for now, and plans change, once again, hopefully for the better.

I am wondering if this topic isn't rather moot at this point.   Dark Millennium isn't scheduled to be released until 2013, that's over two years from now.    So what's the point of complaining or speculating on which races/factions will be available or what the devs have announced as it almost certain that things will change over two years of development?   I think its far to early to be making judgements on the game when it's still in early stages of development.

It's not a rippoff of a Warhammer zone, maybe the opposite could be right, because Uldum was always on Wacraft lore, even in vanilla, the enemies who came out of the southern end of tanaris, where Uldum is located as well as Ahn Qiraji, were anubis type. Man with dog heads, and the buildings in ahn qiraji already featured egyption theme.

So, before speaking try to do some research first, lol

I wasn't speaking, I was typing.  So before typing, use your brain.  You must think warcraft lore came before warhammer lore right?  Just made my day :)))

Ah, now you show your true face. Always recognize the warhammer fanboys when they try to accuse some game of ripping warhammer off while using bad words against the warhammer itself, like your "failhammer" etc.

Must be complex of inferiority.

Either way mate, do some research before typing. Warcraft was the first OF THIS TWO MMORPG videogame using an egyption themed area back in vanilla and thats it.

Your entire thread makes no sense whatsoever

In the form of an MMO, yeah WoW was here first, but the IP, story, lore, etc of Warhammer was around long before even the original Warcraft, let alone WoW. But as was said by someone else, both are really justa  rip off of ancient Egypt, neither of them is original in any way really, just a rehase and spin off of something that happened in reality many centuries ago. Both games should have done something more original, and especially in WoWs case. I get that there was already some fo the other things to tie into it, but does every game that does some sort of desert themed area need to look pretty much identical? I would think whoever was controlling those mllions/billions theyre making would have told whoever came up with the concepts for this to pack up their stuff and leave, its been done before many many times in MMOs, single player games, movies, etc

Mate, warcraft lore was written around 15 years ago, when the first warcraft game came out.

If, there was an egyption themed zone south of tanaris on the original lore, and IF they want to ad a new zone south of tanaris guess what, it must be an egyptian themed zone simply because it was always there lorewise, even if not yet accessible.

It's not like they made it up for cataclysm, it was always there in the lore written 15 years ago, they are just going to make it available now

It's true that Warcraft lore has been around for roughly 15 years, but I'd to point out to Tryklon that Warhammer has been around for over 25 years, which is a full decade longer than Warcraft.   So if you are are trying to say that Warcraft came out before Warhammer and came up with the idea for a 'land of the dead' style zone, you are dead wrong.  I will admit that the Warhammer region of Nekahara (not sure on the spelling of that) is influenced heavily by ancient egypt, so while not completely original they have made the region fit into the Warhammer lore quite well.

mhmmm

I have to agree with goatus on this one.  The OP's writing style is definetly more educated than that of any 11-15 year old.  I call shenaegins on the OP, he/she is no more 15 years old than I am.  I seriously doubt the OP has any characters over the level of 20.

I really enjoyed the Wheel of Time series, up until about book five or six, then it just started dragging.  It didn't help that it took so long for the books to come out.  The characters and world are well thought out, and I really liked the main plot, but overall there was just too much to keep track of.  Jordan would add some random character's plot in one book, then you wouldn't see that character again for another one or two books, and as a result it would interrupt the flow of the book as you'd have to try and remember who this random character was.   I also found his writing style to be very repetitive, I can't remember how many times the Aes Sedai "twitched at their skirts", or such.   Still a MMO set in that setting would be interesting.

This is a bit off topic perhaps, but I really don't want to start a new thread on this, has anyone heard of what the guild system is going to be like?  Is it going to be organised as it was in Final Fantasy XI with loosely formed linkshells that people jumped back and forth from as it suited their whims, or is it going to formal guilds aka LotRO or WoW?  Personally I didn't like the linkshell system very much, as most people I knew had two or three, which made it harder to keep in contact with them.

Life time subscriptions should've really raised the suspicion flag. You have the ask yourself, why do sucessful games not offer life time subs? Because its not profitable. STO Devs knew their game was half assed and would not last, so in addition to selling boxes, they sold two in a sense.

Far as I am aware, LotRO offers a lifetime subscription, and that's a very successful game.   Maybe you need to think about what you are posting before you post it.   Simply because a game offers a lifetime subscription doesn't automatically mean a game is half assed.

NavyJackal,

It is clear no-one can argue with your own personal opinion on this game but I would say that this type of mmo regardless if it is FE or another type of sandbox style mmo would not be up your street.

The thing with this type of mmo is it does not lead you by the hand at every corner and you really have to spend time learning the game or ask for advice to help you on your way.

Is FE so hardcore?..I would say not,if you pay attention from the start and move slowly while you learn how to play and take everything in I would say in 2 or 3 weeks have have the basics down and can enjoy your journey.

If on the other hand you want to rush through content and try to get high level whilst ignoring the fact it is supposed to be a journey, then yes you will struggle with a game of this type.

It is all good though, different horses for different courses.

Yes, its entirely possible that FE just isn't the game for me.   I am not entirely sure why.  I loved Final Fantasy X1 and played it for two and a half years.   And anyone who has played it I am sure would agree its definetly not a "hold your hand"  style game.  I would agree with you that FE isn't a hardcore game.   In any event, I suppose I am going to have to keep searching for the MMO that suits me.  Hopefully Final Fantasy 14 isn't delayed.  Best of luck in your journeys.

After reading the review, downloading the trial and playing it for the past three days, I have to say that the review from MMORPG is fair and more or less accurate.  Unfortunately I did not have have an enjoyable experience playing the game for several reasons;

  • The game is unpolished and has lots of bugs.  Lag is also an issue, with (at least for me) frequent disconnects, which left my character dead on more than one occasion.    I have seen horses running in the air above my head and mobs come bounding at me through what should be solid walls.
  • A confusing and unimaginative tutorial.  The basic tutorial in the hoover dam is in my opinion is a failure as it never taught me how to do anything like equiping or using weapons, how to heal myself, or any of the other basic functions of the game.  The "advanced" tutorial is better, but is still lacking considerably.
  • I found the interface to be horribly unfriendly.
  • The game has a very steep learning curve.  I've played several MMO's in the past 8 years from WoW to LotRO, Saga of Ryzom, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Age of Conan, EVE online and Final Fantasy X1.  I have simply never died as much in any of those games as I have in FE, (Even EVE didn't kill me as often as FE does).  I enjoy a challenge, but this was a bit much for me.

Now I am admitting that I did not get very far into the game, and didn't get to experience the crafting system which many people rave about, but considering how frustrating it was getting as far as I did I simply couldn't muster the enthusiasm to go any further which is a shame.  Like alot of other folks I am growing weary of the fantasy settings and I was really looking forward to the post nuclear setting.  I didn't think there was anything wrong with the graphics.  They were not cutting edge, but they were not ugly by any means.  I also like to support the smaller, less well known developers (Nevrax with Saga of Ryzom), as I feel such small companies should be supported so they can compete with the established developers.   But for me, FE was not fun.  Perhaps others will have better experiences than I did with the game, but I would strongly suggest attempting the free trial before purchasing the game.   Hope this mini review helps anyone looking at trying the game.

Take some time and read what you wrote, you might want to rethink it because you pretty much contradict yourself in just about every way possible.  You actually admit  it is a complicated game, yet you feel that 3 days is enough to offer an opinion on it?

Granted there are a few bugs, but nothing to the degree you indicate.  I think your believability index for this board is about zero.

Actually I don't believe I've contradicted myself at all.   I don't have to reread what I wrote, I know what I said, but you obviously missed the point of my post.   What does it matter if I played the game for three days or three weeks?   My main message was the summary that FE was not fun (for me) for the reasons I had listed above, and I suggest that people try the free trial first.    Yes, I admit (once again) that the game is more complex than alot of other MMO's I have tried, and that I only played the game for three and a half days.   What?  You honestly expect me to continue playing a game that I am not having fun with simply to satisfy your "superior" criteria?   Incidently how long would satisfy you?  Three months?  Six?  A year?  I believe I am mature enough to form my own opinion without you checking my time card.   I wrote on what I experienced in my play time, and I made that quite clear.   I honestly don't see your problem, Ozmodan.  I didn't write some kind of a flame thread, or a childish rant screaming that the game sucked and was a pile of crap, and I didn't write about things in the game I hadn't experienced.

But I'll tell you what Ozmodan, you want me to write a more informed and indepth review of FE?  Fine, pay for my 6-12 month subscription (or whatever time limit you see fit)  and I will keep playing so I can experience every aspect of the game and write a "proper" review just for you.  As for my believability index, I really don't care what you feel about me, or my posts.   I write what I feel and I try to give an honest opinion, if you don't like that, oh well.   I am not seeking your approval.

And how would you know how many bugs I experienced?  I experienced quite a few.

After reading the review, downloading the trial and playing it for the past three days, I have to say that the review from MMORPG is fair and more or less accurate.  Unfortunately I did not have have an enjoyable experience playing the game for several reasons;

Why is it that everything is black and white around here?  There is more than deep RPGs and action RPGs.  Every game is different.  I agree with the OP on DA.  I like deep RPGs like the next person, but after the origin story, DA is just an endless mass of overly long dialogues where your choices don't really change anything, then who you may get to sleep with (oooo, get a real gf/bf).  The combat is ridiculous.  It is not tactical at all when 20 guys rush your 4 and no matter what you try to set up is demolished by 10 people surrounding your character, while bowmen fire right through their own men to hit you.  And it still has one of my faves.  People leave items laying around in chests so anyone can take them, and don't even try to stop you when you do it right in their own homes.  This was supposed to be some amazing new RPG experience and all it is is an interactive movie with some cheesy MMO type quests and obnoxious combats thrown in.

Ok I really don't get this statement, Lauranda.  Did you finish the game?  Did you even make it halfway through?  Your choices in these dialogues impact the game hugely (at least in the PC version, I can't speak for console versions).  Through dialogues you can change the entire ending of the game.  Not to mention have different party members leave, whether by you telling them to, or by upsetting them so much they leave on their own.  Party members will even turn on you in crucial moments if you don't make the "right" choices as far as they are concerned.   So the dialogues are very important, not just for story development, but for plot development as well.  Yes, I agree the plotline in DA:O is rather predicatable, but you can add so much to it and change the ending if you pay attention to these "endless mass" of dialogues.

As for your second point, (the green one)  I don't know about you, but when "20 guys" rush me, you can bet your sorry butt that tactics are not just important but are down right critical.   Mess up your "Mind Blast" spell and you won't affect all the enemy, toss your fire bomb in the wrong place and blow up your own people, don't get your rogues in a backstab postion and you reduce their effectiveness.  What isn't tactical about that?

As for your final point I agree with this.  In only a few places do people prevent you from looting their belongings.  This doesn't make sense to me.  If someone entered my house and started rummaging around my desks, bookcases and wardrobes, I'd be rather upset about it and confront them, or if they were heavily armed I'd at least call the police...

The number of cutscenes and their frequency vary depending on how much you develop friendships with your travelling companions.  Some last 10 seconds, some last several minutes.  The dialogue cutscenes are as short or as long as you want them to be.  If you don't like them, simply end the conversation, though I feel you would be robbing yourself of much of the experience if you did so.  Storyline cutscenes are more or less the same, they are triggered by an event in game, and they tend to be several minutes in length, depending on the particular cutscene.

If someone is worried that the cutscenes are similar to the cutscenes in Metal Gear Solid (which go on forever) then this is not remotely similar.

I own DA:O for the PC, and in my opinion the game is well done.  The storyline is good, the character development is good, and while I cannot speak for the XBox 360 or PS3, the combat is good.  Naturally the game isn't perfect, there are a few issues that Bioware could have done better.  Is this game worth the money I paid for it?  Hell yes.  Have I completed the game?  Hell yes, twice in fact.  This is how an RPG (ie ROLE PLAYING game) should be done.

The cutscenes are very well done and interesting, and go a long way to increase the players immersion and drive the story.  They are not even close to an "hour long" and for the most part are completely optional.  With the exception of some storyline cutscenes, many cutscenes are only triggered by speaking to your companions, or by raising their approval meter to the appropriate level.  In all cutscenes far as I can tell, you can skip them easily, or end the conversation at any time by selecting the appropriae dialog.

This isn't Diablo or some such.  If you are looking for a hack and slash style of game I wouldn't recommend this one for you.  If you want a true style RPG then I believe this game is well worth try.

Personally, it's my opinion that Tro is a troll...But that's just my opinion.
