General: Shroud of the Avatar: Renowned Author Tracy Hickman Joins Up

Is this an mmo? From reading the kickstarter, it seems as though it has online capabilities and persistent online housing, but isnt an mmo.
I still supported it anyway. |

My favourite moment was most likely when I discovered I could make a macro to spawn a random mount every time I clicked it. I love the selection of mounts, and this is the only way I was able to use them all equally! Not enough games allow this. |

[Column] Guild Wars 2: Is Guild Wars 2 The MMO Savior?

You have some valid points here, but in the past, mmos have changed from the subscription model to the free to play with a cash shop model. SOE has almost entirely converted it's entire library of MMOs to this model, and they have shown an increase in profits and, as a result, sustainability of the game.
DDO, LOTRO, Aion, and several other games have shown a similar amount of success with this model, and for the most part they didnt have the initial influx of a million preorders. They have shown that there are many people willing to spend more than the 15/month on the microtransactions, and still feel as though their money is better spent than on a sub. I think that GW2 will prove to have similar success with this model, and after the initial rush it will maintain a healthy fan base to keep it rolling through the years. |

To everybody worried about personal information being abused by this service, it only asks for your gaming accounts, and time played on them. This is relatively harmless information to share. If you have ever owned a credit card, or applied to a college or university, chances are that you have already allowed much more information to go public and be abused. The amount of time you spend video games, and the video games you choose to play is hardly a life altering amount of information to provide others. |

Guild Wars 2: 5 Things People Are B*tching About
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 4/30/12 7:34:52 AM
I had a bit of lag throught the weekend, but compared to other betas, it was actually quite good (D3 single player had more lag for me somehow).
I liked the combat, the fact that it's a mix of the old and new action oroented combat actually worked for me. I found early levels rough on some professions, but once you had a mix of weapons and skills, it became much smoother. I admit the dodge mechanic needs a bit more work, but otherwise I enjoyed it. They mentioned that sylvari and asura wouldn't be in this build as soon as it was announced, so it suprises me that people are complaining about this. They still dont have a release date, so there is plenty of time left to test these things. |

Sony does the same with EQ2. They say it's F2P, but there's very little you can actually do for free. The class/race restrictions are the worst part of that I would say, you don't really get a feel for what the game is like unless you can mess around with all the classes. |

I'm not sure if this may be your play-style, but EVE online has basically what you're looking for. It's got a massive PvE world where you can do basically everything you want, from run a corporation, to missions, to hunting pirates in asteroid belts,to being an industrialist, and then the PvP is just as diverse. With being a pirate yourself, and hunting in low-sec space, the massive 0.0 sec wars which are raging, or even just the occasional group of friends going out looking for some poor soul to explode. Give the 14 day trial a shot and see how you like it. It's got a very steep learning curve, and it may not be for you, but once you know what you want to do in the game, and how to do it, it's a blast

Only playing the 3 day trial, I can't give you an opinion for a long term aspect (which may be some peoples problem with the game), but I had a great time playing TR for the three day trial. It's, as you said, not the cookie cutter auto attack game. You have different weapons that do different things, and I found the combat feels more like a single player game than an MMO, which is always a nice change. I can see the possibility of maybe getting bored further down the road, but from the short time I had with the game I had a wonderful time, and when funds allow, I can probably see myself going back to join the war.
My advice is to try the three day trial from this site, and see for yourself if you enjoy it |

The times they use are EST, so maybe the email they sent wasn't able to get to your inbox in time, and it took you longer than 24 hours from 9pm EST on Dec 1st to get to it. If you're just posting now, it makes me assume that you're more than just one day late, the 24 hours would be Dec. 2nd at 9pm EST, It's unfortunate |
