Neocron 1 + 2, Ultima Online, RuneScape (though its a clone of UO), Dungeons and Dragons online, and Second Life.

5 MMO's with high roleplaying capabilities... Though i do hope that GW2 wont tread the same path as all the clones have, this game has a lot of potential since its original creation of the GW universe, if they sellout they will probably lose a lot of fans and players.

Have faith brothers, they may just be putting two factions down for the time being... remember the DOW series there were only few races at the time, they added more as expansions came out and more backstory and gameplay functions...

They will probably do the same here and build the story where the imperium of man splits from corruption and factions will break into subfactions or even just no faction just race...

7. If all else fails, go back to old school MMO's where it really was fun, IE: ULTIMA ONLINE! WHERE EVERYTHING WAS TOUGH AS HELL BUT FUN!

that or wait till World of Starcraft comes out, seriously thats the untittled game they are working on!

and in the world of other games, i will not speak of this game but the company that everyone loves and adores for tabletopping has a serious chance to beat the shit out of WoW fanatics if their "fanbois" start getting off their asses and spamming the net...

I would assume factions would be like so...

human / Xeno, you dont choose who you ally with, becuase jesus christ thats madness in warhammer to have an ally asides from the very unstable Imperial Guard / sisters / Space marines... no one else allies with each other unless its a very very VERY damn good reason..

Im sure they will think of something to work this out though... probably remove factions come a year or two down the line of release to make it pure chaos!

have faith my brothers, for the Emperor will not foresake us... If he does, well then i guess we will all shout towards the heavens... BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GODS!!!!

So long as it doesnt go 7 years and get the carpet swept out from under them like Tabula Rasa did....

Warhammer 40k Dark Milenium shouldn't have any troubles, but from what i heard they are trying to mimic some aspects of WoW to get more players into the game, they already have enough fans from the warhammer universe and players for the tablettops that the fanbase shouldnt be an issue... why make it all for small children i will never know..

Worse comes to worse, just get a copy of Microsoft Games FreeLancer, download the discovery mod and connect to a Role Play discovery server. (i do that with some of my friends and the server is a max 200 player ratio which isnt too bad)

Yes i am deeply saddened that Tabula rasa died, i was there since the beginning and lost a lot of money invested in it and friends too... nothing has really been the same since they closed that game down.. and there are too many freaking Fantasy MMO's out there, no one seems to like the science fiction areas anymore... Planetside died out a long time ago as well which pissed me off that was fun too...

Why cant people see that SCI FI IS A MONEY MAKER!!!! damnit!

MMO's have been lacking in player deaths havent they? I figured that in most mmo's they just cut the corners because they were lazy at developing each and every concievable death (Including the death by achievements in Warcraft online... see comic joke "Warcraft Sexchievements"

There have been a lot of graphic card updates and recently games are trying to keep up with it, though most mmo's are using old school becuase its easier to render and keep up with instead of going and spending years on it like Darkfall (Fail but graphics were pretty good), and Mortal Online (Its oblivion online guys... OBLIVION!)

Now i do iwsh they they would get animations and ragdoll physics into the game but really it's not going to happen unless someone kicks the original animators ass out and puts someone in whos willing to spend all his time on it... look at most games now a days and hes right...  *clutches chest* my god... I just got my balls cut off, my heart just stopped! *dies*

eh guess i wont be snagging a copy before i go to class then :P
IN MMO's a mage is a mage there is nothing to predict there,a tank is a tank once again nothing there, you pretty much know exactly what the other guy brings ,so there is no skills there.
While i would love to agree, but there are players who actually go a different route in some games... take guildwars for example with its multiple classes and even DnD online, players can have a half half and litterally be a moderate class instead of just a Tank or just a nuker. I have played Guildwars with a few friends of mine and they dont just tank with warriors, they actaully have people thinking that they were tankers and were trying to protect me but they were actually the magicians, a neat trick to MMORPG's with the class differentials. now, as for your other comment about RTS's well ok i can agree about this because in shattered galaxy it seems that each unit can be stronger than the other by equipment and level (sometimes pending on their upgrades) but another note is that TEAMWORK! is how you can defeat anyone, last night me and a another player on helike took down a lvl 22 with a full squad (12 units) of leviathons with AG(anti Ground) and AA (anti air) capabilities. You say that it would be better flexing off your new armor and muscles in an mmo but i see that as arogance and begging someone to just waltz over and kick their ass with a regular character that he has no clue how to kill.. FPS's ok yes they all work, but theres also the wonderous of BOTS and HACKS, people use them all the freaking time and it takes the fun out of that genre just as much as anyone else. Also the fact that people modify the game servers in just about every game makes it even more so annoying instead of playing by the default standards of the game. anyways, back onto the topic... MMO game that is 10 years old and carries the same standards of FFAPVP, more than likely everyone has said it and yes the game would be Ultima Online (though some proclaim it as horrible) it was a wonderful game, it felt like a real MMO and how it should be in my opinon. Games like that were fun because you actually had to maintane your characters points carefully where you wanted them to be such as a crafter, caster, warrior, or a varied person. The most ingenius thing that UO had going for it was the food system in the game where you actually had to feed your character to keep stamina high and even keep your character from getting sick or anything else, top it off they had plenty of other features in the game that made it fun such as the spirit speak function where you could talk to killed players, that game was awsome.. most games now... its just kill or be killed, spawn, kill or be killed, respawn... Rinse repeat for 100000 times.
