How to fix the Holy Trinity or at least make it work for all.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/12/13 1:00:20 AM
My suggestion is to offer more diverse classes. Meaning, stop having classes that are solely tank/dps/heals. A few games have tried this (Vanguard Saga of Heroes is the first to come to mind). To list off a few of their hybrid classes: Dread Knight (Tank/DPS) Paladin (Tank/Off-heals) Shaman (Heals/DPS) Monk (DPS/Off-tank) Disciple (DPS/Off-heals/Off-tank)
I think that they had the right idea, but implemented it poorly (not even going to discuss the horrid launch)... With hybrid classes (not GW2 style) it would allow those people to play multiple roles as they felt like. While I personally like tanking in a lot of MMO's, I occasionally get fed up with it and just want to dps, which most MMO's don't support... Just a thought. Feel free to rip it to shreds like this community does with every idea... |

Originally posted by asmkm22 I disagree asmkm22. While Khan Academy is a great source, I believe that he will still benefit from a traditional college degree in Computer Science. I do agree that he should get involved in a modding community or some open source projects. Furthermore, what college are you going to that costs you 50-100k for 2 years? A lot of state colleges will be completely covered under Federal Pell Grants and small amounts of Federal Student Loans. The nice thing about the Pell Grants is that they don't need to be repaid. The Federal Student Loans do have to be repaid, but they are capped at a maximum of 6.5% Annual Interest Rates. If he has a degree and has some product to show (modding or open source) then he'll be a lot more likely to get a job working for a game developer than someone with just a degree or just products... While I don't work in the video game industry, I'm just looking at it from the perspective of someone who has been turned away from jobs for simply not having a degree, despite having experience in the prospective fields... |

Each zone consists of multiple areas that you can build a city in... You can trade between cities for various resources, regardless of if you are playing single or multiplayer. To do this in Single Player you simply have to have multiple cities that you have built up that can have a mutual trading need/desire. |

Originally posted by Jyiiga I do not intend to buy this game solely because of this style of DRM. I've been burned in the past with this style... Anyone here ever buy Darkspore? Same DRM style... Try installing it now and playing it. You can't because the servers were brought offline permanently... I refuse to buy a game and have a chance that I can't enjoy it later if I want simply because a company realizes how expensive keeping their DRM enforcement in place costs them... I, personally, have no problem with DRM. It does reduce the number of pirated games, but this is just going too far. Maybe they should do it like Anno 2070. If you don't want to play online (or can't) have a button below the play button for an offline mode. Then when you have access or the desire to play online, do so. I play online Anno 2070 quite frequently with my roommate and older brother. That system works for me. I already expect people to come on here bashing why Anno is such a garbage game or why their DRM system sucks so much, but I'm putting out my opinion. Nothing you say or do can change it... *EDITED due to typos* |

SOE going console only!(At first)

Originally posted by Praetalus Sorry, but you don't NEED to update a card every two years, unless you get a low to mid quality card every two years of course. I'm running an AMD Athlon II x4 620 2.6 GHz Quad Core Processor, 8 GB DDR3, nVidia Geforce GTX 285, and a 750 Gb RAID 0 setup that I built almost 4 years ago. The only updating I needed to do was to bring my RAM up to 8 GB from 6... I've run everything on max that I've come across so far without problems (with the exception of Skyrim with beautification mods and Dead Space 3), but upgrading my RAM by 2 GB fixed the Skyrim issue. Granted, I most likely will have to update my GPU soon, especially if I want to run Dead Space on graphics options higher than I have it set to right now, but it's worked well for me for almost 4 years now... If a person was to build a desktop PC today and install say an nVidia Geforce 660 TI (runs about $200), I would expect them to have similar results as to what I've hade with my 285... *EDITED because I entered the wrong processor... my bad for remembering precisely which model I had...* |

Originally posted by JimmyYO I shall gladly take criticism on a VIDEO GAME when it is offerered. Simply stating "THIS IS THE WORST GAME EVER!!!!" is in no way criticism. I'm not saying you in particular, but I'm sure you've seen more than enough examples on these forums. If you guys are getting your information from Alpha Testers or are Alpha Testers yourselves, I do remind you that there is such a thing as a Nondisclosure Agreement that you click I Agree to test the game. Clicking I Agree enters you into a legally binding contract with Cryptic and PWE. Talking about the game here without the express permission of them is a clear violation of an industry standard NDA. So in summary, (1) provide actual criticism with evidence and (2) stop speculating or violating a legally binding contract. Thank you for hopefully becoming rational human beings (both "trolls" and "fanbois") |

Just a heads up, but the Foundry is not a unique or new concept. The first MMO to incorporate it that I know of was City of Heroes/City of Villains. Key words there: that I know of...

Just curious here, but where are you guys getting your information? The game is in ALPHA testing and all testers agree to a NDA. Part of that NDA is that they cannot disclose information about the game. Furthermore, do you think they have the cash shop up and running already? If so, ok I can understand the estimates about how much the Astral Shards are worth. If not, why are you speculating how much the worth of the shards will be? Personally, I'm not going to get any of the Founders Packs, but I'm not going to bash on anyone that feels the need or desire to do so. I've said this on almost every post I've made in the last month, but people please STOP SPECULATING... |

Let's list the games on this site that has no persistent world
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/26/13 11:46:23 AM
Originally posted by JohnR That's not quite what the OP was going for as a definition of a non-persistent world game. City of Heroes/Villains/Going Rogue did have a persistent world (ie you could run into other players while out killing things and questing). The company simply shut down the game. If by your definition this makes it a non-persistent world game, then we should add every game that has failed to this list. |

Axxar, that's because the game isn't even in beta yet. Generally, gameplay videos are released during or after initial beta. They do have a video that shows some gameplay along with the Developer introduction, but that's early Alpha. There's no guarantees that the game is still like what's shown in the video. I haven't seen any dev posts saying they did any changes to the graphics engine, but I also haven't read through EVERY developer news article... |
|
|
For the guys that keep using gameplay videos as an example (most recent was in regard to elven appearance), there are NO gameplay videos outside of EARLY ALPHA testing... You cannot logically judge a game based on videos that were released a long time ago in the early development phases. Wait until the game is released, wait a month or so and read the user reviews. Then if you decide that you want to try the game, give it a fair chance. That's the only logical way to judge a game. Until then, please stop speculating. EDIT: Spelling corrections |
|
|
The most recent dev information that was put out is that you will be required to provide a first and last name for all characters due to the megaserver system.

Has anyone received your e-mail for beta yet?
General Discussion « Elder Scrolls Online 1/26/13 2:36:30 AM
Even if they started sending out Beta invite emails, then it would be a violation of the NDA (Non-disclosure agreement) for anyone to tell you on here that they're in.

Why this game was/will be a major disappointment for me
General Discussion « Elder Scrolls Online 1/24/13 1:09:04 PM
Originally posted by Nibs Just because the game has developers for DAoC does not mean it will be like DAoC. Look at Vanguard. Several of it's initial developers were from the Everquest team. Hopefully the naysayers and speculators don't drive you off. |

This takes place between the collapse of the Ayleids and the rise of Tiber Septim. Based, roughly, on a timeline I think it happens shortly after the Akaviri invasions into Tamriel. EDIT: I know it happens after the Akaviri Invasions based on the lore behind the Ebonheart Pact. The question is exactly how long after, since they state that it happens AROUND 1000 years before Skyrim. |

Why this game was/will be a major disappointment for me
General Discussion « Elder Scrolls Online 1/24/13 8:38:43 AM
Once more, where is your proof that they are going "WoW clone"? At this point in development, claims such as this are speculation. Unless you work for Zenimax and participated in Alpha testing, that is...

Yes ESO will have levels. Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim (oh look all of the TES games) have levels. In the video they state that the game really takes off at level 50. Unless I missed something that's subliminal messaging, nowhere did they say that level 50 is max level. According to the developer information they have on the site, they have not established max level yet. Nowhere in the information that is out does it claim that there will be any form of pve gear grind. Based on the information they have provided, any class can equip any armor or weapon, just as in TES games. Does that mean you will be skilled with said armor and weapon? Nope. As far as the complaint about their being an epic storyline, how is this different from any of the other Elder Scrolls games? Just because you can ignore this storyline, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. If they keep with TES tradition, you can ignore ESO's epic storyline and level by doing side quests. While I am disappointed with the prospect of going over to an experience based system in ESO, I understand the need to do so since it will be an MMO. Furthermore, they have not mentioned anything on character progression. It could be skill based, could be experience based, or a mixture of the two. WE DON'T KNOW YET! Please feel free to correct me, with evidence, if I am wrong on these matters. If you are unable to do so, please stop speculating and hating a game that's not even in Beta testing yet based on those speculations. |
