Champions Online: Gravitar Wants to Party with You and 9 Others
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 6/26/12 7:42:14 PM
Originally posted by fahadjafar Fair point about PvP but it's always been overlooked in CO, as it is Mods didn't kill that, Spec trees did. There's also a reason why the AT and FF queues were seperated. FF slots are available to buy now anyway. so the sub. don't sub thing is much less of an issue. Been playing this game some 18 months now as on a free account and a sub account (yes both at the same time) and both are totally vaild (providing you keeping to seperate PvP queue's and yes PvP is equally broken on either side). I think you got me wrong with the mods, anything above R5 just desn't matter and the mod upgrade catallysts are frankly a tax on people who are bad at cryptic math (dimishing returns on teeny tiny margin, i.e. when you round 250.3 or 250.4 you still get 250 in both cases). I mean they sell one to convert R1 to R2 which is a 100% sucess chance without the mod anyway. R9 mods are still achieveable in game anyway but no one bothers with them. I'm not disputing that PWE want you to buy and spend CP yes there's a lot of things available there but it's all fluff bar the FF slot. That's the only thing CP will get you to genuinely help you 'win' , an expensive permanent freeform slot. On that I'll agree with you but the cost of that its more than I'm paying to sub for a year and I get a lot more mileage out of my sub.
As it was I was trying to bring home that you could pay nothing at all and (unless you intend to PvP against Freeforms or buy somethign in the AH more than the silver account limit of 250G) you won't be penalised, that you can still access all the best gear without spending if you are prepared to spend a little time instead doing a little grinding. Yeah grind isn't for everyone, neither is spending cash. I did the vet awards sums recently converting the vet awards into CP value, a lifetime sub pays for itself in 100 days in retcons alone. Depending on what folks want a sub is still worth it if you want to run a few Freeform toons but liek they say 'your mileage will vary' and others would be just as happy playing two free ATs and never paying a dime, others would get all the mielage they need from buying one premanent freeform slot.. TBH subbers hven;t really been given anything just for them bar one free hideout and the vet awards (I'm not counting beta test invites for NVM as that misses the point) Gotta ask tho- CO has a GM? really? since when? or did you mean FW? |

Originally posted by fahadjafar Actually I find it's become more friendly for grinding, (for XP, Mods, G Questionite/CP, recognition) rather than the cash shop. I've got well over 1000CP sat doing nothing since what I want right now is bought by Questionite and I can't be bothered selling the CP for Questionite when I can fairly quickly grind for it. The dimishing returns on stats mean that you don't need anything over an R5 mod and R4 ones drop as regularly as the UK news reports on the Leveson inquiry (A.l.l .t.h.e. .t.i.m.e). The difference between a defense boosting mod at R9 compared to R5 is only 3 defense. Dodge chance mods are pretty much the only ones that see a marked increase in figures between R5 and R9 but there's so many other ways to stack dodge and quickly gets into dimishing returns anyway. |

Champions Of The Republic [SPACE SLUG] - Casual
Guild Recruitment « Star Wars: The Old Republic 2/16/12 4:57:11 AM
Champions of the Republic are looking for Republic players on the Space Slug server. We are currently a small, close knit group looking to expand. We are casual in nature so we won't be doing things like insisting you hit level cap asap and raid, raid, raid. We welcome any or all Alts you want in but we don't insist that every alt you have has to be here either. We will likely dabble in Operations, Roleplaying & PvP but only on an optional basis.
You may be aware that currently the only way to Guild invite someone is for them both to be online at the same time and be in contact. With this in mind we have a chat channel called Champions anyone can join. You could also attempt to contact me via my characters Hilstbucov, Hilst-Delee and Hilst-Derellyn. Finally you could try and message me via Steam on ID Supercollide. We also have just set up a website at: http://championsoftherepublic.enjin.com/ |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: With Friends Like These
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 2/07/12 10:47:56 AM
After the pre-launch guild website system I had high hopes, shame it's not been carried across.....yet. The setting guild ranks stuff is good but everything else is poor, very poor compared to the initial website.and the hopes is raised. Basic needs for guilds: Add ability to bulkmail all Guild members (seriously I've already had to individually mail every single member of a guild and got hit by the 2 mins cooldown on mail.) Guild admin needs last login date against player info. Fix ability to add friends who are offline - so I can invite them (3 weeks trying to invite a friend who's timezone is just slightly off mine, if I just knew he was online.....grrr) Add ability to guild invite offline players. (see above comment) Guild Events System. Guild Bank (personally, after all the above, fix that then give us a bank) A bigger character limit in Guild Description would be good.
Nice additions: Guild Capital Ship Guild Rankings Some sort of Guild v Guild based PvP Titles for characters given by the guild (i.e Guildleader, Raid Leader maybe, Guild Officer)
I'm sure I can think of other things Guilds are missing, I may return to thie thread. |

General: Lord of the Rings LEGO Figures Incoming!
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/27/12 8:05:10 AM
Speaking as a 36 year old who still buys transformers (ok my 4yr old boys is a poor excuse) I can honestly say my biggest issue there is stopping my wife from already buying him legolas. Looks like the hobbits & Dwarf aregenuinely shorter too, nice! |

Champions Online: Re-Review - It's Not Perfect, But It's Fun!
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 8/31/11 7:50:56 AM
Originally posted by MorpgeusIn short: if the 'non street hunting' content has increased, and the melee toon has a better chance of 'charging up', I would love to re-sub.Any and all info appreciated.Until then I'm in the (infinitely improved over beta times) DDO thing; having a ball with around 8 friends that I keep dragging along to new titles :)Lucas
You can skip about 40% of the missions and still hit cap before you run out of story missions. One friend consistently ignores two whole zones with any problems. |

From what I'm seeing with Champions Online it's pretty clear that Atari has not cared for Cryptic, their games or their customers for some considerable time. Anyone who has had to contact Atari support as opposed to speaking to a Cryptic Dev will appreciate the difference in tone and attitude. Cryptic have indeed made some pretty horrendous clangers and yes they are shocking at timing estimates (*cough* FEB 2011 Lair reviews are coming, AUG 2011 Lair reviews...have disappeared off the immediate radar.) I'm pretty sure Bill Roper admitted borrowing from STO's pot to try and pay for CO when that was over that was overbudget at deadline and still not finished. So I see this is a very good thing, almost like PW saying "2011?!?! Yeah, right! - come on let's do this properly." Anyway Cryptic are hiring - 9 dev positions I'm aware of. Some seem to be going to major in STO and others comic book knowledge is highly desirable so it really looks like resources are going to CO & STO as well, not just into pumping out Neverwinter. Anyway wiht this news and the fact that CO finally got the bubble helms we've been crying out for (not related but it made me happy!), I'm looking forward to seeing what else this partnership brings. |

Don't think so. Heavily delayed? Yeah! |

Perfect World, Cryptic Studios and what's next
General Discussion « Champions Online 8/12/11 6:55:37 AM
It's been getting better, the last Adventure Pack (Resistance) was really good. I'd actually expect further improvements now they are free of Atari, who frankly haven't given a S**t about Cryptic, CO or STO for a long time now, well before CO-F2P anyway. |

Perfect World, Cryptic Studios and what's next
General Discussion « Champions Online 8/12/11 5:57:21 AM
Official Post on Champions Online forums from GMTiyshen - Cryptic Studios Team "Perfect World's acquisition of Cryptic Studios is complete! This is great news for Cryptic and we couldn't be happier. We have exciting announcements queued up for the near future, too – announcements that may even detail significant improvements to our existing products and shed light on games we still have in development... Lots of awesome things are right around the corner! But what about right-now-this-second-now-now? Well, right now we'd like to reassure our fans and players that it's basically business as usual for us and you. Things are changing – and changing for the better – but the immediate changes we need to make to complete our separation from Atari and our integration into Perfect World are virtually all cosmetic. For example, Atari Tokens will shortly become Cryptic Points (incidentally, some may recall they were originally called Cryptic Points long ago). There's a lot happening on our back-end to facilitate that kind of change, but from an everyday user's perspective, it mostly just comes down to names and icons. Of course, we'll provide exact details on the exact changes we make in the near future. As it stands, we're planning to roll out across-the-board separation work on August 18th, but some components are trickling out even now based on the needs of our game teams and their builds. In short: There shouldn't be any inconvenience to our players, we're moving forward with a lot of great improvements to our games, more details will come soon, and we'll publish exactly what we do and how it impacts you all as it happens. Thanks so much!

Champions Online: Every Hero (or Villain) Needs a Lair
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/25/11 7:29:49 AM
It got mentioned about a month ago and it's not on the horizon. I suspect we'll see SG bases and the Foundry (player created missions) before they even think of this again. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Story of the Week: Star Wars Makes Some Moves

My bank account is waiting for the spend on the new PC I'll need to run this before turning on the waterworks. Tears over £130.00 seem paltry in comparison though I'm sure I heard a whimper when the charge went through. |

Champions Online: Every Hero (or Villain) Needs a Lair
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/08/11 6:37:32 AM
Got my Moonbase last night and also chilled with friends in mom's basement. Checked out the Cave and Sanctum as well. They are all:Fun: mostly as RP space for you and 10 friends, but even just opening and closing the Blast shield onthe moonbase's dome is fun.Functional: they give you quick access to Tailor from any of the locations, they'll be adding crafting tables, trianers, bank and account-wide storage too. To be honest the amount of new content they've added in the last 2 months is very impressive - especially the Resistance Adventue Pack Originally posted by Dinendae They've confirmed that that's NOT on the cards. We've more likely to get a foundry-type system than "Villians Online". |

I had this probelm and got a resolution. Basically the in-game store does state 'for a hero' but the website states 'unlocks for each character'. I don't think they've fixed it yet. I submitted a polite support ticket advising that it hadn't unlock for all chars and after a few days got a snotty reply advising me to check my understanding. I politely responded with a link to the website, advised I could submit a screenshot as well and clarified that that's what I thought I was buying. They quickly replied, apologising and I kept the bank slots for my main char and got a refund of the points. All in all it took about a week to resolve. So there is support there but you are painfully aware that you are 2nd class citizens. I'd recommend you submit a ticket and politely offer them a screenshot too. |
