Having played the game, it's quality is something I'm comfortable with. What I doubt however, is that it will appeal to everyone. It's very D2 but with Marvel characters, and as much as people claim D2 was king, I doubt they'd 'settle' for that kind of gameplay in droves these days. Anyway, original point is some small niche of people, most likely CB testers, like the game enough to drop that kind of money because they know they'll be playing it for a long time.

Personally, I feel it defeats the purpose; if I start the game with all the characters and costumes I'm not really going to have a desire to do anything else, since getting those things is why I'll play in the first place. I popped a $20 on Jean, and Storm comes for free and the $20 from buying Jean comes with ingame cash to buy Scarlet Witch. I'm pretty much good to go at this point.

Opposite end for me. I don't want to be going constantly and never getting anywhere. I actually enjoy feeling like I "beat" a game....for now. Then I put it down and go do something else, usually something more productive, until an expansion comes out. I can understand how some people want to make a game feel almost like a home where they're simply always in it, doing something, but I can't empathize with that. I've been gaming for almost 25 years now, and even to me that seems like a gigantic waste of time and life.

Actually, from the "33 1/3 Rules of Rock n' Roll" , rule number 25 easily applies to mmorpgs:

25. Cult artists are frequently just as boring and predictable as mainstream ones.

^

Most of the time indie games aren't any better or more interesting than AAA titles, people are just more impressed that a small, probably inexperienced company managed to make something that didn't completely suck. It's cheering for the underdog, just another kind of mob mentality, except the danger of this one is it makes you feel good about yourself.

LOL on the estimated values they makeup for these things "over $120" for the "7 premium packs", "over $750" for "the ultimate pack".

I'd hazard a guess that those values are based on what they plan on charging for the items when the game and its mall launches. Though yes, it does give some clue about how much they plan to charge for characters and costumes. Tad worrisome. Glad the only character I really care about, Storm, comes for free.

I actually enjoyed this game enough to spend money on it. I'd drop $60 on this before I drop $60 on Diablo 3. Unfortunately, I don't actually want to drop $60 on ANY game. Those prices are a bit steep for things I could get in-game with a little patience. I wouldn't consider that a good investment, personally.

Actual loot drops and XP are suitable to your actual level. Karma, I suspect, is hard coded at a set amount. You can still spend taht karma at any karma vendor though, thus still getting level appropriate gear for it.

Sure, but why would someone want to go to a lower level zone only to get a fraction of the Karma that they could get from a higher level zone.  On top of that, they're down-leveled so the challenge and time investment is still there yet the reward is much less.

Incorrect. Even with downleveling, you're doing more damage than you were when you were actually that level due to gear and traits. Downleveled to a level 30 zone I still kill far faster and more effectively than I do in a native 80 zone where it takes some effort, and I can actually get 70+ gear from it. If anyone, lower level zones should be more populated than the higher ones.

The problem is not GW2's or Anet's, it's the fault of the players. It doesn't matter that rewards are fairly equalized, players 'perceive' lower level zones AS lower level and thus irrelevant, so they avoid it. This is a habit of the players that they're going to have to break themselves, if anything Anet's only fault is assuming that players would be better than that.

I thought this idea was scrapped?

This is a very bad move, and the fact this topic leads to discussions going south, speaks volumes as to why this is bad.

Seriosuly I was thinking I may have bought the expansion, but not if this goes in. If this was in a GTA game, or some adult based game, then that is fine, but this is Star Wars / Disney (kids stuff)- not appropriate.

How is it not appropriate? Are we now shielding our children from the horrors of gays/lesbians? Save the children! Save the children!

Or were people just all straight a long time ago in a galaxy far away?

Where in Star Wars did this happen?

I am sure some players got together in SWG, but SOE never made the game have it

Really? Are you saying that nothing can be in the games that didn't explicitly happen in the official lore? That is a silly reason to be against it.

Does any disney stuff have this in any of them? I don't think so, and there is a reason why not

Disney is throwing me off here, as I'm trying to follow the conversation.

What does Disney have to do with the (original) Star Wars?  [Zero?]

Disney now own Star Wars, and they are a family entertainment franchise, the same as what Star Wars is meant to be.

If Star Wars or Disney has ever had this in, then I'll take back what I said.

Your argument is still silly. Disney also owns Marvel, and there are tons of gay super heroes. Just recently they celebrated the marriage of two men on the cover of a comic, actually. As for Star Wars being a family franchise, that's debateable. Star Wars is violent, features death, and in the recent movies even some pretty memorable dismemberment, not to mention the semi-final moments of Anakin. However, even if none of that were true, your 'family' argument would still be irrelevant; gay people have, want, and enoy families too, or did you assume they're all bumping and grinding at a club? Shopping, maybe? Finally, the game was never aimed at children, and while certain Star Wars franchises (i.e., the Legos/Clone series) were aimed at younger audiences, there were plenty of companion novels with more adult content not to mention the KOTOR games which dealt with things far above the heads of youth. In other words, not "family-friendly."

I could go on.

Edit - the above aside, I agree with what some others have said. This seems like oddball content to be working on when they have bigger fish to fry.

From my understanding the game works basically like Vindictus and C9 with towns basically being lobbies and highly instanced.

That took away all interest I had in the title.  But I could be wrong.

You can't have done much research about the game if that's what you think, since it's the opposite in every way.

I don't see much hype about this game, sounds more like a thread trying to create one. There's some interest on more asian-catered sites like MMOSite.com, but that's to be expected since those are the people most excited for it.

Game is nothing to be hyped about. It's pretty, but it plays like every other MMO out there and the combat isn't anything significant either. It's highly stylized and fun to watch, but how it plays is the same as any other tab-target MMO, it is NOT action-based despite how it might seem, and while some skills (weaker ones) can be done on the move, you still get rooted to the ground for a fair portion of them. The game is more comparable to Aion than it is TERA or Vindictus.

The game is playable though I'm not actually 'allowed' to say how due to MMORPG.com rules, however that alone should give you a clue as to how to find it and where to look. There are only so many topics that are legitimately taboo around here.

OMG...MMO companies are getting desperate these days I guess..lol

Not really. The gameplay is sound, it will play like any other number of dungeon brawlers that are out these days, and the choice of Power Rangers is only an odd one in the west. East of us, the whole Super Sentai thing never stopped going strong. Different culture. I would be shocked if you saw this MMO come state-side.

Game is actually a lot of fun, the improvements they've made are amazing. The original iteration was very shallow, but now there are multiple trees so that how you level your hero ends up unique to you. It feels very Diablo 2, through and through, with the exception being you're playing Storm instead of an ice Sorceress, Deadpool instead of a javelin Amazon, and so on. Honestly I never got that into D2, it was an alright game but there were a few nagging annoyances that kept me from playing it again once I finished it. The improvements here really round out the gameplay.

What remains to be seen however, is how expensive the game is. There are a lot of heroes to start and more to come, provided they aren't overpriced, I think the game will be fine. If I can buy 3-4 heroes with what I'd spend on a sub fee, I'll be happy.

The Open Beta is the unofficial, official 'English' version. What that means is the servers are not located in the West (thus you may experience lag at times), but english is the official language of the game and community. Its technically Malaysian/Sing, but you don't need socials or anything to play, just sign up, login and play.

Holy crap those were some tough choices. Persona 4 Golden vs. Hitman Absolution? That's just unfair.

*scrolls down*

Last Story vs Borderlands 2 wtf!? *flail* HOW DO I CHOOSE. Also yes, GW2 of course. That one was easy.

Edit - BTW, the likelihood of GW2, an MMO, winning against Max Payne 3 on Gamespot.com is slim to none so don't get your hopes up.

But that's also only a lie, a conspiration - the little group of doom sayers who, on this site and others, post that games are dead because they happened to not enjoy them, can only be right. I mean, if John Doe on the MMORPG.COM forums says a game is failing, it can only be true.

I come to MMORPG.com forums every morning, coffee in hand, and lol at these people before logging back into gw2. Game is top 10 everywhere and one of the few in the past several years to maintain high scores across the board on nearly every gaming site out there, but it's failing and a ghost town, amirite?

Until GW2 I didn't realize how much mmorpg.com forum members epitomize burying one's head in the sand, though I suppose SWTOR and this resurgent interest in Darkfall should have taught me that a long time ago.

Oh humanity, how amusing you are.

So you think the people on the forums are lying about finding ghost towns? What reason do they have to do such things. Think they are all subversives sent in by Blizzard?

How about this article that lies about the source of the info. They goaded this person into posting thinking they had found evidence of something that wasn't true. Now there is egg on their face. You, well, you didn't even read the comments at all to see it, you just come charging in with no source to back up your claims, at least they tried to offer a source.

Oh look, one of them replied to me. giggle giggle, snort snort.

You're the first person to bring up blizzard so, lol...dunno what you're getting at there.

*gasp* people lying about a game they don't like just to tear it down? THAT'S NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. /sarcasm.

While we're at it, what 'people' are you referring to? The handful of people posting in this forum are drops in the bucket compared to the people playing any game, let alone one as successful as GW2. I feel like I shouldn't have to point out things that are such common sense for, though trying to find that in forums these days if obviously a laughable matter. You try to measure up my reply to conspiracy theories then hold one yourself about how all these articles are lying and there's no way the game is doing as well as people represent. Let's add hypocrisy to you while we're at it, a list can never be too full!

And what claims exactly are you refering to? The top 10 remark? Do you really need me to post links to all the places showing GW2 being top 10 in player interest, top 10 sold, top 10 of one thing or another? So on top that even extremely reputeable magazine and news outlets that have nothing to do with gaming can't help but comment on the phenomenon it is? Google is a wonderful thing. Or Bing, whatever.

Oh humanity, how amusing you are.

I'm all for it. I wasn't into it enough for a sub, but I felt the entrance box fee was comparable to what I'd get for a console game and thus worth the price of admission. I'm in! *runs off to purchase*

I'm not a fan of TSW, but I have to say I don't think this is a big deal. Games are not grindy these days, if they were then I'd feel the anger is justified. But leveling in TSW doesn't exactly happen at a snail's pace. Why then should it matter if someone wants to pay to, basically, skip to cap? The worst thing that happens is you get to hear them bitch that they don't have enough to do now. Why would you be upset that people are paying even more, thus supporting the game and the dev team, for frivolous things that in the end have 0 effect on your gameplay?

I understand the slippery slope argument, it's a valid reason to worry, but I still wouldn't jump the gun especially with a payment model like TSW has. I highly doubt you're going to see truly P2W items in a mall with a sub fee, particularly in a game that's having some trouble enough as it is. That'd be a PR nightmare. Until they start selling $80 monocles and/or stat-boosting items in the mall, this really doesn't seem a big deal.

Is that "legal" ?? That´s buying votes....

That game doen´t deserve the GOTY award...not even the third position...LAME!

well they do have an official post encouraging people to vote for pirate101, but they don't seem to be offering rewards. i'm pretty sure this is still against the rules though. MMORPG.com needs to get on this. (i, for one, would be mightily disheartened to see pirate101 win those two slots just because their devs told their players to vote. that game deserves neither of those awards).

Well....all games encourage their gamers to vote on this kind of awards.... i don´t see a problem with that really....

If they offer a reward for voting...that´s buying votes...very different in my point of view....

Anyhow...i don´t even understand how it got nominated in the first place! XD

If it wins GOTY or Most innovative over GW2 & TSW.... i´ll just LOL !!!!!

That is indeed common, and something even GW2 does though perhaps not with this award. I've seen them do it with some of the gaming magazine ones though. Is it wrong? Depends on how you look at it. There's nothing inherently wrong with increasing the awareness of your fans that a contest involving your game is going on. On the other hand, it can potentially skew the results based purely on a bunch of new accounts being made to spam the poll versus the actual community the poll is aimed at.

*shrug* in the end, does any of it really mean a damn? Is who wins going to make your game of choice a better one, even if it was the one that won? Nawp.

other than the same kind of monsters...the game looks like the same old nonsense that bad publishers put out dozens of every year

That's because that's all it is. I was a huge fan of the original RO and I'd been keeping track of RO2 since it's first iteration before they started from the ground up and remade it. I'm shocked it took them this long to come up with something so utterly devoid of originality. It's basically every other f2p MMO out there but with clunky controls and a terrible camera. Way too many good free or cheap games out these days for them to consider this an appropriate game to release.

Newcomers will find a better game in one like Forsaken World or Edda while old-timers will lament the fact that it's nothing like current RO, let alone vanilla RO.

Everyone's busy running fractals atm which unfortunately have the side effect of diluting the playpool due to their nature. Right now, it's level based, meaning people who reach a specific level generally won't bother with the levels before it, which spreads the population thin. Anet will be addressing this soon in an update which will likely change it to tier based instead of level-based. In the meantime, I'd suggest you get a good guild. Mine is extremely active with no less than 30 people on at a time, twice that in the evenings, with an even split between dungeon runners and WvW'ers. It's so easy to find things to do with people I know and trust that to be perfectly honest, I don't really bother interacting with anyone else.
Story is barely beginning, still several other dragons to deal with, not to mention issues with Cantha's politics getting in the way of their participating with the rest of the world and Palawa Johko's (sp) ravaging of Elona. This is one of those things that will come with time.
